Well located, bright and airy, stocked with all amenities one could possible need. My husband and I enjoyed ten days in Leo's house, and he was an excellent host. We wanted for nothing, and our comfort was foremost in Leo's mind. Thank you for a wonderful stay; we hope to return soon.

Leo's Sunrise House was comfortable and very well stocked with what we needed for our monthlong stay. The location is close to the center of Ajijic and lots of excellent restaurants, all within short walking distance. My husband and I have stayed in many, many VRBO places, as well as places at that other online vacation rental site :-) yet I can say unequivocally that Leo is the best host we've ever had. He makes sure his guests are well taken care of. And he's such a pleasant person to talk with. Leo and the Sunrise House made our stay in Ajijic a special one!

This property is spotless, private, has lots of natural light and is within walking distance to the village. Every morning we sat on the patio and enjoyed our coffee and the large terrace off the main bedroom is a sunny place to hang out as well. We had no idea the experience would be this great. We stayed for a week.

Ajijic Mexico Stay
The property was in the perfect location close to restaurants, plaza, and lake. We were greeted with a bottle of wine from the owner. He was very helpful with questions we had. He also had a book there with a lot of valuable info.

Absolutely perfect in every way!
We just returned yesterday from our month long stay at the Mexican Sunrise House in Ajijic. Everything about this wonderful house made me want to stay another month. The location is great and we were able to walk everywhere to shop, eat and enjoy the beauty of the Lake, the Malacon and all of the people that congregate on the streets. The house itself is lovely with cupola ceilings, mexican tile and everything you need to cook(although the nearby restaurants are so great that we hardly cooked at all). Every comfort is in this house. The beds are comfy and the terrace upstairs gives you a gorgeous view of the lake. The host, Leo Gutman, was wonderful from the day we booked the house to the day we left. He surely loves what he does and it showed. He gave us great recommendations for restaurants, what to do and interesting facts about Ajijic, a place we are considering for retirement. The property is about two blocks from the center of town but once you open the gate of the house you are in a world of youor own surrounded by great plants, flowers, and even a fountain on the downstairs terrace. It is peaceful and relaxing, yet you are minutes away from everything in town. Leo also has an adjoining property, The Mexican Jewel House which is just as wonderful with all of the same amenities but on one floor instead of two. He was happy to show it to us and we are thinking about renting it as well. The two houses would be perfect for two couples or families with adult kids who want a great place for a vacation. Thank you Leo & Gaby for talking such good care of us and for always being available to answer questions and give advice. We will definitely be back and hope both houses remain forever!!

A True Mexican Oasis
The Mexican Sunrise house is exactly as pictured and as described in previous posts. Leo could not have been a better or more responsive host and Esther, the housekeeper, was excellent.
We enjoyed waking up to the sunrise, which was framed by palm trees and masses of bougainvillea, and sitting on both the lower patio and the upper deck. And off-street parking was such a bonus!
Thank you, Leo and Gaby, for making us feel at home!!

February Paradise
I picked this place for 3 factors. Firstly, the view. Every night we enjoyed sitting on the veranda to see the evening sky. In addition, the view from the masterbedroom was wonderful. When I woke up in the morning, I just had to open my eyes to see a partial sunrise. Secondly, the location. We wanted to be within walking distance of the town square, and we were. We were also near the Carraterra, which had every type of living supply necessary. And thirdly, I wanted a nice place, which was clean and comfortable, and attractively decorated.
I would recommend this getaway to anyone interested in such a place. The owner went out of his way to be helpful, and was very friendly.

Chill
My wife and I were on the hunt to find a place that we agree to spend extended stays in years to come. We have found it. Ajijic has a low key and very welcoming atmosphere. The accommodations we found in the Sunrise House was excellent with Leo the host being super to interact with. There is nothing perfect so the only thing to say is that the cobble stone streets are quaint but somewhat difficult to walk on so bring good footwear, and that our stay was too short.
See you next time Leo (for a MONTH)

This property is beautiful. Just as in the pictures. View from the upstairs terrace is stunning
We had a wonderful 2 week visit at the Mexican Sunrise House. The house is terrific; very comfortable and clean. It is beautifully decorated and well kept. Leo is a perfect host. He provides a wonderful book full of all the information needed about the house and the area. Leo is a great resource for restaurants, things to do in the area, etc. All of his recommendations were spot on. He goes above and beyond to provide an enjoyable experience at his property. We fell in love with the Sunrise House and Ajijic. Location is a short walk to all of the restaurants and activities in town. Highly recommend!!!!

Awesome Spot
We loved our stay at the Casa de Sunshine! We felt spoiled there honestly. Everything was just right: from the beautiful lake view, singing birds, stocked kitchen, and gorgeous flowered patio to the purified tap water (so you don’t have to use bottled water to brush your teeth- huge bonus!) and Leo the gracious host there to answer your every question— perfect. They have really thought of everything to make your stay easy and accommodating. Great neighborhood, too. Easy walking distance to so many great restaurants, a fantastic pollo place, and the main plaza. You really can’t go wrong here so no need to put a lot of thought into it. Just pull the trigger and enjoy!

A perfect casita for relaxing and enjoying Ajijic!
The property was all that was adertised as. From the courtyard garden to the patios.
The house was immaculate, the furniture was quality. Leo greeted us at the gate and welcomed us in to the house, gave us a tour. He was the perfect host, provided us with imformation that helped us , a book full of resources supplemented what he told us. I was so surprised , he left us ingredients more than enough for our breakfast thru our stay! What a host!
We were then invited to have cocktails at his house with his other guests on the compound where he regaled us with stories and made us feel at home.
We highly recommend sunrise home and will reserve when we come back as we intend to visit Ajijic again many times.

Beautiful House - We loved it!
The Sunrise House has been a beautiful experience! Perfect location, walking distance to town, and a perfect oasis to return to after a day of exploring! This house has great energy, clean and comfortable. You walk in and you immediately feel right at home! The house has a Mexican feeling, yet with every amenity you could possible want, to make your stay perfect! The owners, Leo & Gaby are very helpful and a joy to work with. They provide you with all kind of information about the house and Ajijic; and being they live next door, are immediately available to answer your questions, and give you suggestions of places to visit and eat. The pictures cannot truly depict how beautifully constructed the house is. Ajijic is a magical place, and the Sunrise house is a remarkable place to stay. The worst thing about this trip is that we had to leave. We will probably return again next year, and without hesitation, I would recommend this property to anyone.

Unmatched Hospitality at a Beautiful Home
I was here last year, and had to return. What a cozy home, with both mountain and lake views.. For me though the hospitality of Leo & Gaby really pushed this rental over the top.
The house is exactly as advertised. It’s gorgeous with classy and tasteful yet comfortable furnishings and all amenities. The bedrooms are bright; the beds are firm and comfortable. The whole place is spotless. The hosts live next door, and were readily available (but not intrusive) to answer any question, and fix any problem right away. What warm hosts! They made me feel so welcome and they were prepared to take care of any of my needs.
A typical day started with coffee and sitting in the upstairs terrace, watching the town wake up. Leo & Gaby provide one with tons of info about the house and the town. I highly recommend you take the time and explore their recommendations and they can help organize your experiences for you. The kitchen was fully stocked and as I do love cooking I did not feel like I was missing anything. Having said that, there are lots and lots of great restaurants, walking distance from the house.
In short: The house was great! The hosts were amazing!

Clean, comfortable, colorful & cordial host!
Waking up in the upstairs master bedroom of the aptly-named Sunrise House is a delight, beginning with layers upon layers of bird song preceding the sun peeking over the mountains. I'm not an early riser at home but I loved hearing the village waking up while watching the lake and the mountains gradually emerge into view. The bedroom also has a lovely palm-tree shaded patio and a high-domed ceiling with attractive recessed lighting and a strong fan to keep us cool. Even though it was late May we were never uncomfortable or too hot inside the house.
Our overnight flight from Sacramento got us into Ajijic at 5:45 am. Our host, Leo, had emailed directions to the house; in English for us and in Spanish for the cab driver. Leo had also emailed us careful instructions for retrieving the keys from a combination lock box outside the gate.
When we let ourselves in we found that he had also kindly stocked the refrigerator with eggs, milk, bread, butter, jam and coffee so we could rest up from our flight and have a light breakfast before we ventured out into the village to get our bearings and buy our own supplies. A bottle of wine and two glasses also awaited us on the kitchen counter. I've never seen a kitchen in a rental property so well-stocked with every utensil and appliance you could need, including a full gas stove. The rest of the house was equally lovely and well-stocked for all our needs.
Any time we had questions we knew we could just pick up the phone, but I found that if I emailed Leo, a response was always forthcoming within mere minutes. He was always on hand to help us find our way around the property or the village. The property was well-secured, clean and safe-feeling, with beautiful gardens and artistic local indoor furnishings and gorgeous stained glass. The WiFi was excellent, and the property even included a phone with direct dial to the U.S.
Leo provided us with a comprehensive list of restaurants, and the mediterranean-themed Pale was just excellent and a short walk away. If you enjoy outdoor restaurants try Yves down the highway, with its outdoor fountain and browsing white burros, or the Peacock Garden in the heart of the village.
I'll be raving about The sunrise House to my friends, as it was a terrific value for the price and a beautiful property. We're looking forward to coming back and hope this property is available.

Could have been better for the price.
We stayed in the beautiful home for two weeks. It could not have been a better experience with the furnishings, views and the hospitality shown by Leo, the owner. We definitely look forward to coming again and enjoying the people, serenity and the Lake and surrounding pueblos.

Standard; basic
Mister Enjoy (Léo) isn't as fairplay as he pretends to be: "enjoy" is his favorite word which he uses at all times to make you think that he offers you the best (which isn't true at all)

Fantastic Home Away From Home!
My husband and I spent nine nights at the Mexican Sunrise House. Leo, our very gracious host, is extremely organized and has thought of everything his guests may need or want. Before our departure to Mexico Leo sent an informative package about the house and the area, including maps and instructions in Spanish and English for the taxi driver.
Upon entering the gorgeous casita, we were greeted by a bottle of wine and some basic provisions for the morning. The house was spacious, well appointed, clean and very comfortable. We very much enjoyed the patio by the garden as well as the lovely views of the lake and village from the mirador.
The casita was within an easy walking distance to central Ajijic. We were able to get fresh bread, fish, groceries, water, wine and beer all within a few minutes walk.
I highly recommend the Mexican Sunrise House!

A Return to this Little Piece of Paradise - RA, Toronto, Canada
For the 3rd consecutive year, I returned to stay in the lovely Mexican Sunrise House in Ajijic.
This clean, well cared for, private, and charming house was my home away from home for the month of March. As a single woman on vacation it is important that I stay in a safe and secure place. Centrally located, it is a short stroll to La Plaza, the centre of town. There is no need for a car and in fact that is part of the charm of Ajijic. You can walk everywhere from this location. The Mexican people are friendly and the children polite. Say hola and you will get a smile and a hola back.
Upon arrival at the Sunrise House you will find a bottle of wine waiting for you along with breakfast supplies for the next morning. The house is well equipped with every convenience you can think of. An added bonus, if you enjoy eating out, are the many great restaurants with very reasonable prices. The house is bright and cheery because of the well placed windows on both floors, and the Mexican décor. The master bedroom has a view of Lake Chapala and the mountains, and at night there is a lovely breeze with the windows open. In the evening you might hear the odd firecracker or a dog barking, but by 10 p.m. it is usually quiet. But the best feature for me was the second floor balcony terrace off the master bedroom. This was the perfect spot for morning coffee, reading a book, drinking a glass of wine or...while looking at the bougainvillea, the lake, and the mountains.
Leo is a most attentive, but not intrusive, landlord. He lives next door and if there is any problem, he is always helpful and attends to it immediately. He wants you to thoroughly enjoy your visit, and I have so much that I am returning for my 4th time next March.
The weather is perfect in Ajijic and you will find that both Ajijic, and the Sunrise House, are special places.
Leo, Gaby and Cali - muchas gracias and see you next year.

Great Location, Comfortable Surroundings
As I mentioned in my review of the Jewel House, we couldn’t have asked for nicer accommodations. Leo, the owner, is a fabulous host. Our two groups occupied both houses for our 1 week stay. As with the Jewel House, the Sunrise House is equally darling; it was terrific watching the sun rise over the lake every morning from our upstairs bedroom and veranda. Our family occupied both houses; a perfect set up for adults of all ages. Stairs weren’t a problem, but if that had been an issue my husband and I would have stayed in the Jewel House since it is all on one level. The location of the properties is perfect for getting around Ajijic. Lots of fun places to explore and endless restaurant options. Such a charming town with friendly locals and expats alike. Thank you Leo, Gaby and staff for a relaxing vacation.

The Mexican Sunrise House was an excellent experience and a lovely get-a-way for us..Loved it!
Upon our arrival (after 6 PM) on Nov 15, 2017, we were pleasantly greeted and presented a bottle of wine by the owner, Mr Leo Gutman. Wow! What a wonderful beginning to our vacation. Mr Gutman is a perfect host and the home is beautiful! The patio area and 2nd floor terrace were graced with palm trees, indigenous shrubs and Bougainvillea of various, intensely bright colors. We took so many videos & photos! He made sure that fresh food (to include eggs, bread, fruit juice, butter, jelly etc) was available on our first night"s stay. He made sure all our concerns and needs were met. His attention to detail and the information provided about the home, area, and Ajijic was outstanding! Leo provided free wireless internet, Satellite TV, and free phone service for calling the States. We felt very safe in the home. Leo has a security cameras that alert him if there is any suspicious activity or presence out/inside the property. The neighborhood was always friendly and we often walked around the village in the late evening.
Our host and his home combined to give us the most wonderful experience for life in Ajijic, Mexico. We highly recommend this home for anyone visiting this area. 5-Star home, 5-Star Host, and a 5-Star Vacation! This was surely one of our BEST VACATIONS EVER!

Just spent two weeks there to escape Nov. blah's. Accommodation is delightful. Leo is a superb host -- provided everything you need. Clean, comfortable -- you could easily live in this little casita for six months. It is only a 15 minute walk to the town square, the shops, the restaurants. Also, taxi's are cheap and reliable if you take Leo's advice and use his fav. company. There is safe parking if you have a car and want to do some exploring. Restaurant food in Ajijic is really good. Beef , in particular, was a pleasure. We were encouraged by Leo to attend the Day of the Dead festival and it was fascinating! Do ask about it if you are here when it is not happening. The streets are made from a very rough cobblestone, so, expect walking to be very different . Not good for handicapped. This is a noisy town -- be prepared to rise early due to roosters, dogs or bells. And, as they often tell you, this is not a touristy town. There is little to do after one week of seeing the town. Come to read and relax on the deck facing the lake (as we did) or rent a car and explore the area. Great weather, a superb host, good food everywhere -- what more could we have asked.

This lovely home does not fall short of the great photos. The terrace offers fresh air and a wonderful view within one's private space. The rooms are well appointed, clean and have character. The kitchen is well equipped with modern appliances. The home offers great touch of artistic imagination. I was treated very well by Leo & Gaby. They were even helpful with me practicing my Spanish. As I am quite fit I took advantage of the various trails in the mountain behind the house with some stunning views of Ajijic and Lake Chapala. I also took advantage of the thermal baths in adjacent San Juan Cosala, just 5 miles away. Make time for a spa day – what a treat.
There is convenient transportation, restaurants available nearby. The town center is just 5 minutes by foot. I recommend staying at the Sunrise house because you will not have a better experience anywhere at anytime - it just makes you feel great.

Leo was a phenomenal host. The Mexican Sunrise house met every one of your needs including being in a great location. We did not need a car the entire 2 weeks we were in Ajijic. We were able to walk everywhere we needed. Now with that said we are walkers.
We did take a bus to Chapala and a bus to a couple of other locations. 8^))
I would highly recommend to anyone to stay at the Mexican Sunrise house for your next stay in Ajijic.

Wow! We really enjoyed our stay...The mountain and lake views were so amazing. We definitely felt we were in paradise. We really enjoyed the outdoor living in this tropical place, with the palm trees swaying in the breeze next to us while we are enjoying a nice cup of coffee for breakfast, and enjoying the views at sunrise, of the lake in front, and mountains behind. The bedrooms were just right, and lots of hot water in the shower. The kitchen was fully stocked, and the living room comfortable, with a TV with hundreds of channels in English. Leo & Gaby were so helpful in planning our stay and also during. They were available to answer questions and we enjoyed a visit with them. Wonderful, relaxing, memorable!
Would definitely recommend. Thanks for having us!

I so enjoyed my time in Ajijic and staying at the Sunrise House. I needed some down time to just chill and do some activity. Wow, I had no idea how much I would be able to do it, and absorb the lake and surroundings. A typical day started with coffee and sitting in the upstairs terrace, watching the town wake up. Leo & Gaby were very accommodating and helpful. One fantastic benefit is their knowledge of the town and activities you can pursue during your stay. I highly recommend you take the time and explore their recommendations and they can help organize your experiences for you. The kitchen was fully stocked and as I do love cooking I did not feel like I was missing anything. Having said that, there are lots and lots of great restaurants, walking distance from the house. There was a small problem with one of the fixtures, and Leo fixed it immediately. The house was great! The hosts were amazing! The Vibe was fantastic! Remember you are in a small village in Mexico, so enjoy the experience.

This was a Perfect location(with a toddler). Charming host. And it may be possible that I ate too many tacos, while in Mexico. (Maybe!)
This is our second visit to Ajijic, Mexico and it remains such a lovely place. This time we were traveling with our 2-year old. A few weeks before we arrived we spoke to Leo (the host) via email and Skype. He was very attentive, and was able to get ahold of a car seat and have a driver waiting for us at the airport with a car seat already installed (If you’re a parent—you already know what it means to be able to leave your car seat at home!).
The Jewel house is lovely. With a private entrance and a small front patio with a fountain, you are really welcomed in. Of course, Leo actually welcomes you in. He’s fluent in Spanish and English (and a few other languages!), and welcomed my husband, daughter, and I with a bottle of wine (none for the 2 year old, of course) and a quick lay of the land, all the great places that are walking distance, and some good reconditions on what to see, where to eat, etc.
Leo was also able to get us a Pack and Play for our kiddo. (Yet another thing we didn’t have to travel with!).
The 2-bedroom casita is very comfy. Not luxurious, but a cute blend of Mexican accents and creature comforts. It has a small, but very functional kitchen, so that we could buy foods for breakfast (ask Leo for directions to the hidden baker—and go!) and snacks (Happy Hour on our patio!).
Each of the two bedrooms is very comfortable and has a Queen sized bed and huge closets. There are even 2 bathrooms. One with a large shower stall, the other is more of a powder room.
There’s American TV (actually, I think it’s Canadian, based on the volume of hockey choices), lots of books and magazines to read. But we really didn’t spend that much time at the Jewel house during the day. Too much to do. Don’t miss a trip to Tlaquepaque (pronounced Tu-lock-aye-Pac-aye). It’s a funky, artsy, shopping, touristy-yet-still-Mexican place near Guadalajara. Leo was able to hire us the same driver (with the car seat).
Overall, we had a blast in Ajijic. The Jewel house was the perfect home base. Leo wa able to add all the extra touches, and make traveling with a toddler so much easier. Our 2-year-old ate at least 22 tacos over the course of the week (no comment on how many I ate!)
Gracias Leo! I assure you we will return.
