About this chalet rental

This light, bright and spacious house gives you a feeling of being on top of the world. The decor is simple but hopefully aesthetically pleasing. The 137+ hikeable acres are a wonder in all seasons. This is a true getaway. In the past few years, we have made our best efforts to be ecologically positive. The solar panels give back to the power utility about 95% of the usage, and hot water is heated via electricity instead of propane. There is a generator in case of a big storm outage. Parking is abundant. Each main room has its own heating/air conditioning split. There is a living room wood stove (and wood provided) for extra warmth in the winter.
You can find lots to do in the area, or just stay and enjoy the view. Mount Snow is 19 minutes away, traffic dependent. In the winter there's a great sledding hill and--if it's good and cold--a pond to slide on. Lake Whitingham, with multiple aquatic choices, is 15 minutes away. In summer, the pond is swimmable, and fun for frog-catching and using the blow-up raft.
If you like to cook, the kitchen is completely equipped. The house is set up so that there are private areas and public areas. You can have alone time, or congregate. There are 3 bathrooms, one on each floor. The game room has a ping pong table. It's the kind of house where you'll have a wonderful vacation whether you ski or you just kick back and enjoy the beauty of the place. New router for the wi-fi with speeds of 25-30/10-15 mbps.
Each bedroom is private. There's one with a king-size bed, and 2 bedrooms have queens. The children's room has two twin beds, toys, and books. We welcome you to peruse the books, and use the games and toys, if you have children.
There's a queen futon in the game room, which is on a separate floor and has its own bathroom, TV and electric piano.
We've owned and loved this house since the sixties, and we hope you will find this house an idyllic place to rest and enjoy.

Great view and perfect fit for our two families skiing at Mt. Snow. Easy 20-minute drive to the mountain. The kids really enjoyed sledding down the big hill in front of the house. Grocery store was super close. Thank you for a wonderful time!

We really enjoyed our stay here, especially watching the birds in the field of wildflowers. We enjoyed watching the swallows tend to their fledglings, yellow finches and a blue indigo bunting. Grilling outside was perfect, and everyone in our party of 9 had ample room. The ping pong table was a perfect respite from our kids' incessant electronics usage!

My two adult daughters and I had the most wonderful winter long weekend stay here. The house was inviting and cozy, the views were stunning, and the host and caretaker were incredibly responsive and welcoming. We hope to be back to experience summer at this house!

We had an excellent stay and the house comfortably accommodated a large group of childhood friends who came together from all over to ski and hang out for the weekend. The place was perfect for non skiers to stay home and relax and offered a great space for us all to come together to make dinner and hang out after a freezing day on the slopes. Host gave great instructions and the house was cleanly and exactly as pictured

This is a special place, beautifully and lovingly maintained. Aside from all obvious superlatives, the subtly decentered screens made it easier for my 11 and 15 year old sons to become interested in the sturdy ping pong table in a room looking into nature, jigsaw puzzles, delightful back issues of the New Yorker and intriguing books on the shelves, such that we had a wonderful gadget-screen free five days even though it poured rain for much of our stay. I loved swimming in the pond in 55 degree rainy weather so I can imagine how amazing it must be when it's warm! If you meditate, the boat house is beyond. The hosts left clear, useful instructions and were great communicators. Knowing I was supporting the maintenance of a sustainably run house made the splurge feel better! The kitchen is great to cook in (if you're coming in via the Mass. route stop at the two farmstand stores you'll pass for local summer fruits and vegetables plus top-notch organic eggs in the purple carton as there's more produce than in the nearest Vermont stands) but we also ate out at Dots and Wahoo's in Wilmington -excellent!!! Brattleboro seemed hard hit by the pandemic, so if you have time to pop over there and have a meal or shop it might help the town's spirit. The Molly Stark state park loop is a lovely, manageable hike for most ages. A huge thank you to the hosts for our marvelous experience!
