About this house rental
Our Duck Lake home is a family-friendly, warm and inviting three bedroom (plus 3 more downstairs!) hideaway with all the comforts of home. We (Don and Irene) bought our lake-front lot several years ago as a place to park a camper and enjoy this lovely area alone or with our children and grandchildren. It saddens me to say, that my wonderful, loving husband has graduated to heaven, where his views are much lovelier than Duck Lake.
We loved the view from this lot (the lake to the east, & Glacier Park & Chief Mountain on the west), the neighbors (many professionals from all over the northwest), the fishing ( Duck Lake is one of Montana's premier trout-fishing lakes!), and world class magnificent scenery (Glacier National Park with all of its' outdoor activities) that feeds the soul. God's handiwork and His incomparable creative genius is so evident to us that it is hard to imagine not being totally in awe of this Creator of the wonderful universe! And you can enjoy this paradise without the long lines, and hustle and bustle of crowds of people! We decided to build, then found a nice home to move onto a styrofoam-formed daylight basement on our large lot. The large master bedroom has a king-sized bed, and private bath. This bedroom has a lake view. Bedroom #2 has a four-poster queen bed literally 'fit for a queen'. Bedroom #3 is our "kid's room. It features a queen sized bed. Children's books and family games are stored in the dresser there. In the closet there is a a port-a-cribs, with linens and baby monitor. A full main bath (with heated tile floor) has a tub and shower. A large living room, dining room, and full kitchen complete the main floor. A small laundry area with washer and dryer is next to the kitchen. The walk-out, daylight basement has three more bedrooms, (1 king bed, and 2 queen beds), a bathroom with a shower, and a family room with a sofa, easy chairs and a "game" area with large TV and some electronic games. There is also a connected room with a round table and chairs for board games or puzzles.
As all the homes in this area, we get our water from a well. And as all the homes in the area, the water has a high iron content. A water conditioner, iron filters, and a whole house water filter have been installed, but there is a slight iron smell detectable. This water has been tested by a state-approved lab and is safe for drinking. As per Blackfeet tribal rules only a septic holding tank is allowed on the lakeside. This tank must be pumped when full—so water conservation is appreciated. No drain field is allowed.
Large windows in every room brings the outdoors 'in'. There is a deck on the lakeside accessible from the dining room on the main floor. Another large deck cantilevers the lake shore by the garage area! This is a historic deck--having been "rescued" --re-purposed---from a remodeling project at Yellowstone Park. It graced the front of the Old Faithful lodge for many years. It is fun to think about the thousands of pairs of feet from all across the world that strolled, skipped, or ran across its planks! Watching the sun come up with a hot cup of coffee or hot chocolate on the deck overlooking the lake couldn't get any better! It is also not uncommon to see wildlife stroll or run across the yard, and certainly always lots of water fowl on the lake, as well as large trout jumping. A word of caution, however. Grizzly & black bears have been sighted on our place. Be bear aware!! (Bear spray in cabinet above clothes dryer) sad to say, recent years have seen the level of the lake receding. We hope abundant slow falls will restore some of that. We no longer can use our little roll-out dock to fish from. 😢 Cows and horses roam this area as well, and a few friendly neighborhood dogs. This is rural Montana, where livestock and wildlife outnumber people! A neighbor down the gravel road even has a tame bison as a pet.
We also have a small area between the house and the lake that is set up with a small fire pit and chairs, and some rustic seating logs where you can build a fire, roast hot dogs, or marshmallows (s'mores! Mm, mm!) get out the guitar and sing "Home on the Range", "How Great Thou Art" or any other tune at the top of your lungs if you should choose to. Neighbors would smile, or maybe even sing with you!
The iron pickets in the front fence were salvaged from the recent construction of the new East Glacier bridge. We love the historic touches to our place! The downstairs king bedroom furniture comes from the Copper King Mansion in Butte, Mt. Some of the artwork on the walls is ufrom a famous actor’s (initials B.A. 😁) home in Big Sky, MT.
A curved driveway around the lakeside can be used for parking vehicles and/or boats, and there is space to park in the front by the road as well.. Glacier National Park is about 15-20 minutes away. Hiking into pristine mountain areas with roaring waterfalls, snowy banks, nonchalant wild game, majestic trees and beautiful delicate flowers is an experience of a lifetime! Seasonal restaurants, small shops, as well as St. Mary's Lake and other attractions are close by as well. Bring warm clothing if you decide to go over the famous 'Going to the Sun' highway, ( a 'must see')! Snow, icy waterfalls and wild flowers, and wild life plus PEOPLE do co-exist nicely here!
We pray that all who come and stay sense the peace we feel when we and friends and family have enjoyed our Duck Lake home. We welcome you to "Big Sky Country", and know you will fall in love with the views and friendly neighbors you will meet. We have an assortment of fishing poles and gear for those who want try casting a few lines (although I do not know enough about fishing gear to make it work properly. You are on your own there! 😁)
Our home is always a “work in progress”—changing and adding decor and amenities. It is located on a gravel road, so do give us some grace if you see a little dust. We work hard to mitigate that.

This is a great sized home. We had plenty of room to spread out and enjoyed our stay here!

We are a group of extended-family members who found this house a mostly-perfect home away from home for our GNP vacation! Location, number of bedrooms, comfortable beds, wonderful owner communications, nicely stocked kitchen, views!, lovely deck, large dining table, plenty of seating and gathering places, plenty of parking spots, all of which went into making it just right for us. The water storage tank alarm sounded at an inconvenient time for us, leaving us having to curtail water usage through Saturday evening and Sunday before the pumper could get there to take care of it on Monday morning. I certainly understand having rules around a lake. If there was a way to make sure one didn’t lose a whole day to the storage tank issue, we would happily book here again! The owner is lovely and responsive and the house, itself, was absolutely PERFECT!

The proximity to St Mary and Many Glacier (20ish mins in either direction) was a game changer for our Glacier NP trip! Irene’s home is very cozy with plenty of living space, beautiful lake views from the two patios, and a well stocked kitchen. The beds were very comfortable as well. Self-check in was seamless, although be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the sign, as the area is remote and not well lit so it’s easy to miss the house when arriving after dark. The water does have a strong iron taste/smell (as expected), but it wasn’t intolerable for most of us. The newly installed wifi was very strong and stable! The pantry and fridge had a bigger stock of spices and condiments than I predicted which was a nice surprise; that said some of the pantry items are quite past prime so it would be good to clear those out more regularly. The house did have some minor maintenance issues during our stay that Irene made us aware of and some of the fixtures and corners could be dusted a bit more thoroughly, but overall we had everything we needed for a smooth, comfortable stay. Irene was very communicative before, during, and after our stay. Would highly recommend!

The check in process was difficult because we did not have cell or internet service (which we knew) but everyone should make copies of Irene's emails. The smell of the tap water is an issue. However she supplied us with plenty of bottled water (which was greatly appreciated)..

Irene's home on Duck Lake was the perfect place for our group of 4 adults to come home to each night after a full day at Glacier National Park. The house was very clean, has ral bedrooms with comfortable beds, a very well stocked kitchen, and a lovely deck overlooking Duck Lake. We sat outside a couple nights enjoying the starry sky and the quiet at the end of the day. Irene made sure to leave everything we would need. There were coolers for a picnic lunch along with cold packs in the freezer, fishing poles and equipment to use at the lake, pantry items, spices, and ziplock bags, foil, and containers to use. You could easily cook your own meals if you brought food from a grocery store. There were all the pots, pans, and utensils you needed. We cooked a meal one night and ate out around the Park the other nights. Irene was readily available to answer any questions. The house now hto WiFi and we were able to text and make some phone calls from the master bedroom. I would highly recommend Irene's home and Irene as a host. She tried to think of everything we'd need as a guest in her home to make sure our vacation was the best time in Montana. The house is very close to the entrance at Many Glacier. You still have to drive a way into the park to get to Many Glacier Hotel, but this is as close as you can get without staying at the lodge. We were hiking the Grinnell Glacier hike and spent another day hiking trails around Many Glacier. We also spent 2 days at St. Mary'y questionsmy

Host was very accommodating and responsive. Home was roomey, homey and clean. Close to both St Mary’s and Many Glacier. Good base camp. Deer came right up to the fence.

This was such a nice place for our home away from home. We couldn't ask for a better host. We enjoyed sunrises on the deck and the convenience of being so close to the east park entrance & Many Glacier. The house is well equipped for cooking at home and the beds were very comfy. The house stayed cool even though there was no ac. There always was a pleasant breeze. We will definitely share your place with others in the future. Until next time!

Wow, what a great place to stay for the first half of our Glacier trip! This was literally a home away from home. Irene was great to work with and very helpful. I’ve stay in many Vrbo’s and this was the first time I felt like I was staying at a family member’s house, I could feel the love and memories in the walls. The house more than accommodated my family of 4; my 2 teens loved staying in the downstairs away from mom and dad for downtime when we came back from our hikes. The location of the house is PERFECT. We had fast, easy access to the east entrance of GTTSR and Many Glacier. We even drove up to Waterton for a day which I can’t recommend more! It was gorgeous up there! Just remember to bring your passports (or if they’re under 16 a birth certificate will do). We spent our last half in West Glacier but could have stayed here the whole time, this location is much more desirable than West Glacier in my opinion. If we find ourselves back at Glacier this will be the place we stay again!

I have stayed in many vacation rentals over the years but Irene is the best host I have ever had. You can tell she loves the property and loves being a great host. She was available before and during our stay to answer questions to make our trip perfect. We were only a few minutes from Glacier and less than an hour away from Waterton in Canada. This was a vacation that my family of 6 will never forget! Thank you for helping me make lifelong memories with my family.

Beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Lots of space!

We had an outstanding time on duck lake. Out the front windows we had a great view of the mountains and off the back deck we enjoyed the lake view with beautiful sunrises!! This house was great for our large group which varied from 6-9 people. Everyone had their own room. The house was well stocked with games and videos. The location with regard to the park was very convenient. We enjoyed many good hikes. The house was well stocked in the kitchen. We had many good meals at the house. It was wonderful!!

We had an amazing time. We went mainly to visit glacier park. We wanted to stay on the East side as we liked it more. Perfect location. Has amazing views of the mountains + lake. We had room to spare with all of us (6 adults + 2 kids). The house is great, was everything we needed and then some. We all had an excellent time

We had a mix of ages and generations and the stay could not have gone better. Irene was wonderful and SO accommodating and insightful about the area.
There was a great peacefulness to the home and the amenities were endless. It was so clean! I would recommend highly.
No WiFi was just an added bonus.

We stayed here after 3 nights on the west side of the park. We loved the spaciousness and how homey this lake house was. The views were also spectacular. The kitchen was very well stocked and we enjoyed the assortment of games and movies. The lack of internet is a plus for family bonding. A short walk up the road enabled us to connect to the internet, check weather and download emails. Highly recommend.

A roomy, comfortable and well equipped house that is a short drive to the Many Glacier entrance of Glacier National Park and very accessible to Watertown Park and the other Eastern GNP entrances. The sunrises over Duck Lake were spectacular. Irene was great host and has the house stocked/equipped so that you don’t have to worry about bringing small items. Living without internet or TV for a few days was a good break and we found it easy to get emails, etc. whenever we drove through town.

Used this as a home base for our wedding at Many Glacier. Six bedrooms meant we all had plenty of space with 8 people. I’d stay here again.

What a fabulous place to stay after long hikes at Glacier! So much space to rewind and relax. Full equipped kitchen and comforting deck. It was just PERFECT for we two couples, each had their own living quarters with a shared kitchen. Would highly recommend for anyone wanting to escape the crazy costs of the park's lodges (with un-modern bathrooms - ugh!) and have a cozy, comfy space to enjoy each morning and night! Thanks Irene & Don!!!

Great house and location on East side of Glacier National Park. We were a party of 6 including 2 young children. Our party greatly enjoyed our time here, and found it to be serene and relaxing. There are beautiful views from both the front and back porch of the house. Irene is a great hostess and thoughtful with her communication and accommodations. The beds were very comfortable. A few things to note for information in case you miss in the description - as of August 2023, there is no wifi or cell signal (Verizon) here. There is free wifi at the St. Mary Visitor Center, and I was able to get a cell signal around the St. Mary entrance. Other reviews note the foul water smell - the water is well water, and it does smell, which Irene acknowledges and says she has done everything to try to fix it. Luckily, she provided plenty of gallon jugs of water, which was thoughtful and helpful because we did not realize how much we would need. There is no air conditioning, which normally wouldn't be an issue here but it was unseasonably hot when we were there. Luckily, the bedrooms stayed cool at nighttime, but it did get a bit hot in the kitchen in the evening.
Overall, we highly recommend!

Three sisters with spouses and friends are visiting GlacierNational Park for 3 days. We truly enjoyed staying in this house and watching sunrise over beautiful Duck Lake. The house is spacious for our party of seven and kitchen is fully stocked. The location is so closed and convenient to visit the Glacier NP.
4.0
House is clean and comfortable. The only downside to the accommodations is that the water has a very foul odor. The location is great with short commutes to the Saint Mary’s entrance and Many Glacier and a few local dining spots. Access to Duck Lake via the back yard is not great as the lake level has fallen but we spent nearly every waking hour in the park. If your expectation is to fish in the backyard that is not very realistic. Irene is a gracious hostess and very responsive.

We really enjoyed your beautiful home. Great location and accommodations. Thanks for the wonderful hospitality.

We had a great time at Glacier National Park while staying here. The beds are wonderfully comfortable and the house was beautifully decorated. The kitchen had everything needed for cooking. We appreciated all the details Irene provided.

We really enjoyed our stay. It was the perfect distance from Glacier. We hiked every day and this was a wonderful place to rest up for the next adventure. Sunrises we’re beautiful from the deck. The kitchen had everything we needed and there was plenty of room for us all.

This beautiful home was immaculately clean and very comfortable with a beautiful view. There is no cell service or internet service but you don't have to go far to find cell service. The well water is unpleasant tasting so be prepared to drink bottled water during your stay but that's a small price to pay for such a nice place.

We would definitely stay there again.

We all loved the vrbo, it has a beautiful view of the lake and mountains and is in a quiet peaceful area. It was large enough for all eight of us without feeling like we were on top of each other. It is close to Glacier National Park, which is an amazing place.

Great (but hard to use Google Maps) location! The house had EVERYTHING the yard was not mowed but heavy rains made that difficult. We loved our stay and the east side of Glacier with easy access to trails and vistas. The house was very comfortable with a dock on the lake to the east and mountains to the west. WOW

We totally enjoyed our home away from home. Interior wise, plenty of space, played games downstairs, and room for everyone around the table to eat together. Plenty of bathrooms for each little family to use plus the adults. Our only disappointment was we weren't able to use the outdoors. We had hoped for one night of bonfire, but we weren't able to make it happen. Irene was super super nice to work with. It was great for our 25 year later return to Glacier as a family. We loved it! Thank you so very much Irene for everything.

Irene was wonderful to work with. She had great communication and a very lovely home with a great property. The home was well organized, clean, and the space was fantastic for our four children and both sets of our parents. Irene even went out of her way to surprise us with a sweet wedding gift. She is very thoughtful and caring. Her home had all of the extras you could need. It was comfortable and a great location for Glacier Park. I have recommended her home to several other brides on my facebook group that are looking to elope to the area. Everything you need, she has even down to the ironing board and the hotdog sticks. Beds were comfortable and the home is spacious. The lake view was amazing and we saw a lot of beautiful wild life. Thank you Irene for making our elopment extra special and a home away from home.

Our crew was here on a work trip, and the location was fantastic and convenient to base from. The house had plenty of space for us to either be hanging out together, or spread out. Kitchen was well stocked with supplies for cooking. Despite not having cell service or WiFi, Irene was easy to communicate with about our stay.

I was in Seattle on a business trip and the property was as advertised. The property afforded me the privacy and quietude conducive to getting my work done. The apartment is well appointed and clean. It is also a great location, convenient to transportation, restaurants and shops. Communications with and replies from the owner were timely and welcoming. I would not hesitate to recommend this property to others and would certainly return under similar circumstances.

The house was one of the few vacation rental property's available to us on the East side of Glacier which was a big advantage since most of the sites we wanted to visit were located on that side of the park.
The house was clean, comfortable, and well stocked. Everyone in my group praised how nice the place was.
The only difficulty was the lack of internet which made communication and planning difficult. However, it was clear in the property listing that internet might not be available, so we knew ahead of time about that challenge.
I highly recommend the property for vacationing in Glacier!

Had a group of 9 hiker friends and this was the perfect location between St Mary and Many Glacier.
Plenty of space.

Large home lakeside outside the East side of the park. Great communication and info from owner. Beautiful sunrises and amazing night stars. Easy access into Glacier.

This property offered us all the amenities you could want. Clean, spacious, and quiet lake setting. We really felt that the owners cared about their tenants. The back deck which faces the lake was our meeting place every night after dinner. Viewing the Montana sky at night was breathtaking! This is the perfect home to rent if you want to experience the true Montana life.

The hosts were so responsive and helpful. Sent a full several pages of info and suggestions ahead of time, were johnny on the spot responsive while we were there, and went out of their way to return something to us we left at the house when we went to our next destination. The place was wonderful. Very limited cell service, which was fun because it meant we were mostly off the grid. Great location to Many Glacier and St. Mary’s. Great view of mountains and Duck Lake. Nice bedding, amazing kitchen with everything you would need. Great place for a gathering with friends and family and a great host.

Wonderful views from both sides of the house. Lots of space.

Amazing views of Duck Lake out the back and sunset silhouettes of Chief Mountain out the front at night. Plenty of space for our 3 generations and good location for accessing Many Glacier and St Marys in the park. Would be much better with wifi. We'll be back.

Property is a good place to stay for exploring the east side of Glacier National Park. Plenty of room for our family, and enjoyed the sunrise over Duck Lake each morning.
