About this cabin rental
This quaint, rustic hand crafted log cabin on the Salmon River has views of the river and rugged canyon peaks that you will never forget . We are 5 miles upriver from the town of Riggins. The 24 hour sound system is provided by the big river whitewater and Cat Creek tumbling down beside the cabin. Only our guests and the owners and their families have vehicle access to a beautiful calm water swimming beach at the lower end of the property. The occasional rafter or boater have access to the mean high water line. Tie up your jet boat, drift boat or raft on the beach. You can also launch a raft or drift boat from the beach and for larger boats there are launches a mile or two down river with easy water all the way.
The cozy rustic Cat Creek cabin has 2 bedrooms upstairs with a Queen and single bed in the main room, the second room has a Double and single bed. The stairs are narrow and steep and not suitable for some people. The bathroom is located on the main floor, it has a shower tub and stackable washer/Dryer. The kitchen has everything you will need to prepare home cooked meals, you just need to bring the groceries. The open floor plan has a dinning area and a modest living area . No matter where you choose to sit you have a view of the majestic Salmon River canyon. The spacious deck has a propane grill , picnic table along with chairs to sit out and enjoy watching the river flow by and Bald Eagles soar. It is air conditioned for the summer months and a glass front wood stove along with electric heat for the cool months, wood can be purchased in Riggins. The cabin has a StarLink satellite system , the cabin may be isolated, but one should be able to connect to most anything, and a new smart tv is located in the living room, and WiFi calling should allow calls and texts to be made.
We are in the heart of the largest concentration of National Forest public lands in the U.S. and a few miles up the road is the Frank Church Wilderness, the wildest piece of unroaded real estate in the continental U.S. . Our neighborhood is host to deer, elk, big horn sheep, mountain lion, mountain goat, grey wolf, black bear, golden eagle, osprey, bald eagle, salmon, steelhead, cutthroat trout, rainbow trout to name a few.
The Salmon River is the longest undamed river in the lower 48 and is appropriately named. The pole snapping Chinook salmon show up in May-June and the fall steelhead run starts in September and goes until spring. You can hire professional drift and jet boat guides in Riggins or try your luck in the Cat Creek Hole out your front door.
Our back yard abuts public lands and for the the hunter it is not likely you will see anyone else, it is steep and rugged, not recommended for those looking for a stroll in the woods.
The Salmon River is world class whitewater. You can take one of the most exciting 1/2 day whitewater raft trips in the west from Riggins or for an extended adventure, a 5 day trip thru the magnificent River of No Return Wilderness in relative comfort with one of the many professional outfitters.
And don’t forget your surfboard. Just up from our beach is the locally known Freedom Surf Wave. Its an easy paddle across the river and a short walk to the wave. If you plan on using the beach during the summer we recommend a shade device that withstand wind gusts, for those not equipped with a shade device one can be available for a modest fee upon request.
Riggins is located in the heart of Idaho, centrally located between Boise to the south. Spokane WA to the northwest and Missoula MT to the east. All 3 locations offer direct flight to and from several larger cities. All 3 offer unique sightseeing on the drive to Riggins.

The property is very nice. It was great to have a private beach. The house needs a bit more cleaning. When we pulled out the Hide-a bed, there was a lot of mouse poop and also the the cupboards had mouse poop.

We have stayed at this delightful property several times in the past. We use this as our base for hiking and fishing and
watching the local wildlife. From the covered porch you can watch deer, elk, quail, doves, coyotes and several different colorful songbirds. The river always has whitewater rafters floating down or Jet boats going up & down. This property has everything you need for a great stay.

This is the second time we’ve stayed here, and we have never returned to the same place twice. This place is that special to my wife and I so when her aunt from France decided to visit us we immediately knew where to go. The owners were very friendly and helpful with our stay.

Very beautiful cabin, not to small and not to big. Perfect vacation/honeymoon getaway. The property owner was very nice. The beach was super clean and not trashy. I’d recommend this place to anyone. 10/10

You just cannot beat the view from this very clean, comfortable, cozy cabin on the hill. The beach access was very nice too. We saw some young deer on the hill right outside the back door. Even though the cabin seems remote, which we really liked, the town of Riggins is an easy 10 minute drive for groceries and restaurants. Communication with the owner was easy, check in and out was easy. Loved this place!!!!

We have stayed at this cabin 3 times as a base for our adventures, in this beautiful place. You can explore all day, or just set in comfortable place with binoculars and let nature come to you. Will definitely return to this cabin.

This cabin is in the most amazing location and the views (360) are stunning. When we were not out riding around the national forests we were on the porch of the cabin. We would sit on front porch for awhile and then move to side porch and back and forth. Saw a few elk. We experienced a horrific storm one night with hail, lightening and high winds. While scary it was also exhilarating! The sliding door was shaking from the wind but never felt the cabin move. It was sturdy. During storm I saw two big round objects coming down side of mountain toward cabin. Due to it being dark I could not make out for certain what it was but think it may have been bears. Interior of cabin is rustic but we were ok with that. Had problems with hot water heater first night but it was a thrown breaker so easy fix. Water pressure in shower was very low. Hard to rinse off soap and shampoo. All was communicated to Margaret, the host, who responded quickly with our concerns. Margaret was also a joy to talk with. We would definitely stay here again! None of these reviews including my review can give justice to the 360 view of this cabin. Memories of Cat Creek cabin will be with me forever!!

This is our second visit to cat Creek cabin and we are returning again in a few weeks. The cabin is very nice with all the amenities one could desire. The view is spectacular in every direction. The location is ideal only a few minutes to Riggins, but totally private. Cannot wait to return, will probably try to book again for the fall.

My hubby n I have been wanting to stay at this cabin for years and we finally saved up enough to go. The cabin wasn’t exactly what we were expecting and for the price that was disappointing. Very old, uncomfortable furniture - not for lounging. Needed a deep spring cleaning (we were first of the season). Dead mouse fell out of one of the blankets. Very chilly n windy so we couldn’t enjoy the porch as much as we wanted but when we did….STUNNING! The location and beach are the cats meow with this place and thank goodness for decent enough weather we could enjoy some fires on the beach. Water pressure in shower shut off at one point, but they were having water issues before we arrived and were very communicative about it all. Anyway, while we’re glad we finally got to stay at Cats Creek we’ll probably check out other properties that are similarly priced but with more comfortable accommodations.

We absolutely loved staying here! It was secluded enough but still had the small town feel! The views were breathtaking and we will most definitely be back to stay in this cabin!!

We absolutely loved the cabin... Super clean ! The deck has just a stunning view and the private beach is an absolute GEM to have access too... My aunt was beyond happy with the location ! The internet was slow for my husband to work from the cabin, BUT on my phone it was ok, but we really don't care about that (the hubby did though.. lol) ... other than that, it was perfect... The stairs are a bit steep for someone who has mobility issues, but again, my 82 year old aunt did fine with them... We will absolutely be RETURN GUESTS each year !!! Thank you for having us !

We really enjoyed our time at the cabin. We spent a lot of time at the beach. My husband caught lots of bass. We went into town a few times and found that the Whitewater Market had everything we needed. Would love to come back.

My family and I had a great time at the Cat Creek Cabin. The cabin was nice and cozy and worked great for us. The highlight of the rental was the private beach. We had a blast swimming, kayaking, and fishing. It was a great base camp for rafting the Salmon every day as well.

The Beach is Priceless
This cute cozy cabin is a priceless gem located on the banks of the beautiful Salmon River. The cabin is located on a hill overlooking the canyon. It has amazing views of nature and wildlife.
This property also comes with its own private beach which is my favorite part about this property. The beautiful white sand and the gentle eddy make a perfect place to set up some shade and relax in the sun. I have been coming back to swim on this beach every summer for six or seven years. Roger is a consummate host. He has always addressed any problems immediately. The comfort of my family and friends is always his number one concern. Thank you for another wonderful summer vacation on the Salmon River!

Perfect accommodations
The cabin was in a perfect location near Riggins center with a stunning view of the river and the canyon. Having access to the private beach on hot days was the best part. It was great for fishing and a quick dip to cool off. The cabin fit our needs for cooking, sleeping, relaxing and river access. We were grateful for the washer /dryer. The owners were very helpful and easy to communicate with. The only negative was that one of the bedrooms had no direct heating & cooling. A fan would help! We loved having our morning coffee on the porch, listening to the river and the bird song! We highly recommend this cabin and would definitely book again.

Loved the view from the cabin. The setting is beautiful. Also spent a lot of time of hanging out on the beach. Definitely recommend this place.

Great views, bad weather conditions, river flooded
The location was amazing! I will say the pictures of the cabin are a bit misleading - it is quite small, there are two bedrooms upstairs and they have two twin/double beds in them each. They windows in bedrooms also don’t have blinds or curtains so you are getting a 6am wake up. The stairs up to the bedrooms are incredibly steep and you have to bend down so you don’t hit your head going down. Unfortunately, it rained our entire trip and the river was flooded so we weren’t able to fish, kayak, or doing any river activities. This left us with nothing to do except watch tv. Thankfully we brought a Roku stick and plugged it into the back of the tv so we had something to do for four nights there. Our favorite part was seeing all of the wildlife. We saw herds of elk, deer, and a black bear, all near the cabin. We wish the weather conditions were better because it would have been an amazing stay. We drove 8 hours for a whole lot of nothing to do. Roger was great, nothing his fault, and he communicated back quickly when I messaged him.

Such a beautiful relaxing weekend. Lots of wildlife (deer, elk, eagles, osprey, and more). Loved having access to the beach and all the basics were provided. Thank you for sharing such a special place.

Family Vacation in March
The views are as great as they look. The cabin was perfect for our family. The only negative was the WiFi - very spotty and very slow even when working. But it was nice to get unplugged so it all worked well.

Amazing location!
This cabin is in the most awesome of locations! On a hill along the Salmon River means out of this world scenery and tons of wildlife. Herds of elk and plenty of deer, as well. Cabin is clean and is just perfect.

Best getaway ever!
I'm hesitant to give a review just out of selfishness. This was the best getaway relaxing vacation we've been on. We go on all our vacations on off seasons, on purpose. So we can relax and see the areas with less people. Our phones didn't work and that was great. I spent most of my time watching several herds of elk from the cabin and fishing for trout. My wife read a lot and we would drive the area in the evenings looking for wildlife, it was what we needed. By the way there is a washer and dryer. Great cabin.

Heaven
I couldn’t imagine a more beautiful location in nature for a cabin. The cabin itself was perfect for our needs as well. In late April we woke up to a herd of about 40 elk in the yard on morning one which was amazing. Access to the river is fantastic. I saw 2 teenage boys acting like they were 8 years old again being amazed by the beauty of nature from the cabin and at the river. The level of their excitement is the biggest example of how amazing this place was.

Pictures don't do it justice.
I would stay here again without a doubt! Cabin in the middle of nowhere with no cell service is right up my alley. My wife was a little more critical than myself normally. She had a blast. Kids loved it.

Wonderful..
We always have a wonderful time when we are here.. Roger is always great with communication. We have never had any problems. We come here to the cabin a couple times a year. It's a great place to unwind. It's like being off the grid. We absolutely love it.

Excellent Location on Salmon River
Very nice, quiet home base just above the Salmon river a few miles outside of Riggins. Cabin was clean and stocked with all necessities and the private beach just off the road was a perfect bonus. Highly recommended.

Spectacular view with secluded property
What an amazing stay at this secluded piece of heaven. We celebrated our 15th anniversary with a weekend away from everything. The cabin was comfortable and it was helpful having AC both up and downstairs. We could not take our eyes off the river. If you enjoy the star gazing, it doesn't get better then this. The beach area was a great place to unwind. We should have brought our 4 wheelers to go back and fourth from the cabin. The only thing we were concerned about was the damaged entry door. I felt like a strong gust would blow it open. Needs replacement. We loved the cabin and hope to be back soon. What an amazing property. Thank you for sharing.
