This, one of a kind, rustic log home tucked into the base of the Elkhorn Mountains is anything but rustic when it comes to amenities. It is a large (5200 Sq. Ft.) home located on 250 acres bordered by Wallowa Whitman National Forest. There is scenery, hiking, snowshoeing, wildlife and big starry skies right out the backdoor. You are within minutes of The Elkhorn Crest Trail and many Wilderness access options. Anthony Lakes ski area is 19 miles away. It is a 10 mile trip into Historic Baker City.
Please be aware that this is a "country experience". This means that there is more dust, especially after a hot, dry summer. There are also flies that migrate into the house during warm days accompanied by cold fall nights. This lasts for 3-4 weeks from late September until mid to late October. They are harmless but admittedly annoying. If this is a concern for you then please check with me before renting during this time of the year.
Seven plus bedrooms and four baths accommodate up to 16 people. Air mattresses are available for overflow. It is a perfect spot for a group retreat or workshop. The main living areas are well suited to meetings or workshops in a relaxed, elegant setting. WiFi access lets everyone stay in touch with customers while enjoying a few days of team building. Please note that wifi is Satellite which means 3-4 average users but not high performance as one might want for multible video game streamers.
Behind the house there is a grassy, wooded area with a large fire pit, water access and picnic table. Make smores, tell stories or simply listen to the elk bugling across the meadow. The house has a large wrap around deck, including a furnished, covered area (we lounge over coffee and breakfast here in warm weather) near the kitchen/main entry.
The house was built in 1979 with large diameter, hand hewn spruce logs. We recently completed a three year renovation project that provides top quality finish materials and modern amenities. The casual but elegant feel of the house is accentuated by hardwood floors, granite countertops, oriental carpets, chrystal chandeliers, antique furniture, leather couches original artwork and fine bedding. It has a gourmet kitchen (farm sink, professional, dual fuel range) capable of feeding a crowd. Two massive floor to ceiling stone fireplaces grace the main living areas, both upstairs and down. There are spectacular views out every window.
There are two open loft bedrooms. One with two twin beds and one with a queen bed. There is a catwalk between bedrooms overlooking the living room. The privacy is a bit limited here but the charm is not.
The main floor hosts a large entry way for depositing all of your outdoor gear, aforementioned kitchen with counter seating for 8-10, dining room with seating at the large table for up to 14 and a comfy conversation area of leather sofa and chairs, an additional sitting room with sofa, four comfy chairs and TV/DVD, small bath with toilet, shower and sink, large 'spa' bath with jetted tub and two sinks, small sun room perfect for a temporary bedroom or warming up on a winter day. Most of the main floor has high vaulted ceilings of knotty pine tongue and groove planks. For those requiring a main floor (No Stairs) bedroom option, the sitting room can be closed off with curtains and the hideaway queen sofa bed can be set up.
Downstairs are five more bedrooms, two bathrooms and an expansive game room. The master bedroom (Pineberry)has a queen bed, pull out queen couch and TV/DVD. The master bath has a toilet, shower and two sinks. The pink (Ladyslipper)room has a queen bed, large closet and child's pop up, portable 'crib'. The (Cedarberry)room has a queen bed and large closet. The blue (Huckleberry)has a double bed. The yellow (Sunburst)has a double bed. The game room has a pool/ping pong table, foosball table, TV/DVD/Wii and access to high speed network. Please note that the Blue Room is in a corner location reachable through either the Cedarberry or Sundburst rooms. It does not have direct access.

This was an amazing time and stay for our family. The house and property are beautiful. Kitchen had everything we needed

This was our second time staying at Good Bear. The first was my last trip to Baker with my Dad and family in 2017. This time it was to celebrate his life with family from Alaska, Oregon, Idaho and Washington. The property is magical. We saw turkey, deer, owl, and lots of other critters. The cows sauntered right up to the fence while grazing. There was a small hiccup during our stay with a water leak that needed repair. We were without water for a couple of hours while the problem was diagnosed and a part picked up and replaced. It was a minor set back during meal prep but was handled quickly and efficiently.

Our family gathered at Good Bear for a long, overdue reunion. The home and surrounding area was beautiful and provided for plenty of space along with a very well appointed kitchen. Access to Anthony Lakes and the discount tickets for skiing along with access to nearby trails made for a great outings. We also enjoyed watching the large herd of elk make their daily trek to grazing grounds below. We all loved this place and left with many nice memories and promises to return. Thank you for making such a great place available.

Our group of 11 ladies ages 69-88 had an great stay at GBR. The location is close to the ski hill and Baker City. The discounted ski tickets were a plus. Accommodations were perfect however the Family Room still has a lumpy mattress but we managed. Lots of options with air mattresses or cots.

We recently had a small get together with a few family members we had not seen in 14 years. The accommodations at BG were perfect for our small group. We had plenty of room for privacy as well as visiting in lovely, comfortable surroundings. The weather provided serious heat, some smoke, then rain, so we did not take much advantage of the outdoor seating accommodations.
Two suggestions: (1) We could not find a fire extinguisher in the kitchen. Fortunately we didn't need it, but the one we eventually discovered near the downstairs fireplace would not have been available in the event of an emergency. We'd suggest more and more prominent fire extinguishers and/or fire blankets. (2) Idiot-proof directions for the entertainment center would have been much appreciated. We had to spend waaaaaay too much time figuring things out to play videos and/or watch a movie. And, sadly, missed the Women's World Cup final due to inability to determine how to get reception.
Otherwise, we LOVED our visit to GB, and would recommend it to others.
Thanks, Robin, for sharing this lovely place (and your amazing landscaping).

The lodge was great and the views from the deck fantastic...we loved it. The only issue we had was the representation of bedrooms and baths. The corner 3 bedrooms ran together which created a small issue for two families and the baths were misrepresented, in actuality, there are only 6 bedrooms and three baths. Other than that, it was a fantastic stay and we will probably rebook in the future. Thank you.

This property was absolutely perfect for our small family reunion. The setting is idyllic, the log home is gorgeous, and the kitchen was well stocked. What a perfect place for sharing meals, visits, and relaxed time together as an extended family. Thank you for the privilege!

We had 3 inches on new snow around the ranch. Each day club members were able to get up to Anthony lakes to ski. We even took a short trek on snowshoes around the property.
The kitchen was so accommodating for our dinner prep and we loved all sitting at the large family dining table.

This property is awesome. Great for large groups and all ages. In the winter, kids can go sledding right in the property with parents watching from inside. Highly recommend.

We stayed here for a family reunion with a large three generation group ranging in age from 10 to 79. It’s a great space for a big group. Robin and Katie were responsive and helpful with our planning and arrival. The house was lovely, beautiful construction, and well equipped with plenty of dishes, cookware, towels, and linens. The kitchen was perfect for cooking and eating together and the house overall was spacious with lots of different places to hang out, chat, and relax. And the view is spectacular! The outdoor seating and wrap around deck were our favorite spots, and the kids and dogs loved being able to run around the partially fenced yard. The pool table was a hit with the teens—no one turned on the TV or Xbox the entire weekend. The house is about 20 minutes from Baker City and 40 minutes from Anthony Lakes. We had a wonderful time.

Beautiful Home and Property
Homeowner was very responsive. Artwork in the home is beautiful. Enjoyed hiking on the property each day, playing pool, ping pong and foosball. Kitchen was well stocked with any item needed. It was nice to have the wood readily available for the fireplaces. Great memories created during our stay. Thank you for opening your home for us to use. The Springer’s and Sibley’s.

Winter Wonderland
We used this property for our Ski club trip. The setting was beautiful. We were able to snowshoe right out the front door in 4 inches of fresh powder. The home was a close location to Anthony Lakes resort and historic Baker City. Kitchen was well stocked and easily accommodated our group. Everyone loved the homey yet elegant atmosphere. We will definitely book again.

2nd stay and would stay again
Such A great place tucked away in the woods. Close to town and not too far from ski resort which was the purpose of our stay. This was our 2nd time staying. And would stay again. Check in and out is easy and Instructions throughout the cabin are helpful. But if you have questions the cabin host was quick to respond.

Great Experience, but not good for elk hunting
A group of 6 guys rented this place for an elk hunt. We enjoyed the cabin 10/10. The kitchen was fully stocked with labels for everything. Large pots and pans and a gas range made cooking group meals easy. Towels and linens were provided and the laundry system was explained with simple steps. The fireplace was the highlight of the trip and we all enjoyed keeping it rolling with the surplus of stacked wood: except Gale who was too hot because he was going through menopause. We BBQ'd a brisket on their gas grill with the ample propane tanks. The caretakers stopped by to prep for possible snow and couldn't have been nicer (Steve and Katie). The only complaint was the elk. We read that they were everywhere and locals confirmed. Unfortunately, they were nowhere to be seen. This was because it was hunting season and they had retreated to the mountain tops. We all agreed that we would bring our families back for a vacation but not for hunting.

Left after one night
The house was not clean, there was pet hair and food crumbs in carpet and the windows, which showcased the beautiful setting, were all so filthy you could barely see out. But the reason we could not stay for our booking was two-fold. There is something wrong with the house which allows flies to drop from the ceiling and enter the house even when doors are closed. The cleaning staff vacuumed these from the different areas and within a couple hours there were dozens and then dozens more. The second thing was an active yellow jacket nest that made it impossible to spend time outside safely.
The house needs an exterminator to take care of this problem and some down time from visitors to clean it. To her credit, the owner gave us a full refund and let us stay the night. But we drove nearly six hours to this destination so a real disappointment.

Team stay
We just needed a place to stay for our team while we played in a two day tournament. The property had a beautiful view so we took some great team pictures outside and the inside was great for our team of twelve to all stay together in the lower level. Great cooking supplies for a big group too. We would rent again.

Celebrating 60 with My Children
We had a fantastic time at the lodge. We spent 6 nights, 7 days.
We cooked, baked and BBQ’d for 8 with plenty of room for all of us to help.
We hiked, golfed, played cribbage, pool and ping pong. We painted and other crafts. And of course star gazing.
We hiked on the property and explored the creek. It is so beautiful.
We dove up to Anthony Lake and enjoyed the eagles and osprey. We captured an osprey diving for fish.
We watched a red tail hawk eat a snake on the log at the edge of the pond.
We are blessed.

Great Space
We were so thankful for a place for our whole family. Such a wonderful place to be together. It was hard to hang out outside, due to SO many bugs, but otherwise a nice place.

Beautiful location for wedding!
The cabin was amazing. We had a small wedding ceremony and the background was picturesque. Robin and Katie communicated quickly and answered any questions. The place was HUGE and offered many places to retreat to. We barely spent any time indoors, as the patio and outdoor sitting area were awesome. We cannot wait to come back again!

Beautiful, quiet sanctuary from the busy world
We were blown away when we walked into Robin’s “cabin” at the base of the Elkhorn Mountains. Besides being more than big enough to accommodate our extended family, the details of the home are beautiful and so creative… from the breath-taking views out every window to the whimsical outdoor chandelier to the beautiful and spacious bathrooms and kitchen… all was lovely, clean, comfortable, and just perfect. Thank you so much Robin for hosting our group!

Wonderful place to get away
Good Bear Ranch was the perfect place for some lifelong friends to relax after a crazy year. The views were spectacular and the cabin itself is amazing. You can tell a lot of love went into putting this place together, you walk in and it feels like home. Lefty’s in Baker City is a fine place to fill a couple of growlers too ;).
Thanks for sharing this beautiful cabin!

Spring Break at Good Bear Ranch
We spent a week at Good Bear Ranch with another family and it was an amazing time. We had 4 adults and 5 kids in the house and we thought we could have invited another family. The space was huge and was great for all the kids to run around. The kids loved ping pong and foosball and having their own living room. We saw a herd of about 100 elk in the field next to the house most mornings. The view of the valley is undeniable. It was a perfect escape from the city for a week and very relaxing.

Wonderful Stay
We had a wonderful stay at the Good Bear Ranch. It was just like the pictures show - stunning and remote location, amazing log cabin architecture, beautiful views out the large windows showing the surrounding ranch land and snow peaked mountains, marvelous kitchen, and lots of room to spread out in. We look forward to returning in the winter so we can ski at the nearby Anthony Lakes ski area, or in the summer so we can take longer hikes into the surrounding forests and mountains.
