8 guys that went to UT in the late 70’s and early 80’s drove from 5 states to the Bears Den on Cherokee Lake. Sleeping accommodations were great. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking with adequate refrigerator room when you included the downstairs refrigerators. The living room and dining area worked great for our group. Enjoyed the fire pit and the lake with our own canoes and kayaks. Lot’s to do in the area.

Every year our church finds a location to have our men's retreat that allows us to fellowship, have devotionals, play games, etc. This place had exactly what we need. Access to the lake, several nearby marinas, all around good time

We love staying here! It is close to home and this is the second year we have stayed here. Clean, comfy beds. Plenty of room for everyone. We enjoyed seeing geese taking a siesta on the bank. Swimming and fishing! Roasting hot dogs and marshmallows. We were able to do it all in one place! Love Love Love!

The property was very close to my house and had all my family stay at the rental house with plenty of space for everyone. Great view!

The house is BIG and has everything you could possibly need for your stay. It is not fancy; but the view and roominess and cleanliness make up for it. Parking/driveway is really tricky if you have more than 4 or 5 cars and you have to be careful with backing out. Our only concern was washing all the linens and towels prior to check out- we arrange for a late check out; but cannot imagine how we would have even come close if we had to leave by 11am! It is a great place for a big gathering and we may come again in the future.

My bridal party stayed here for my wedding weekend. It had a great common area and plenty of beds for everyone to have their own space. We brought firewood and had a great bonfire by the lake. UberEats had a few options for delivery food that made evenings easy. It had a feel that reminded me of a place you visit over and over as a child. Thanks!

Every year we look for a place to meet as a family (6+3kids) and spent a week together, trying to accommodate everybody's idea for fun and relax - children, parents and grandparents. Bear Den was exactly it! The view is mesmerizing at any time of the day (early morning coffee or sunset drink) , any weather condition (we enjoyed a lightening "show" from far away) and from any corner of the house or yard. Plenty of space, perfect for "hide and sick"- literally and figuratively, kitchen equipped with plenty of plates, silver- and glassware (no need to wait on the dishwasher to finish). We love playing in the water...there were life jackets for any imaginable size/age person. The dock is floating (we had not have this before), but it took15 minutes to get used to it. Fishing was not ideal (we caught total of 3 fish), but we had plenty of fun practicing :), jumping in the water, kayaking around and rock skipping. We could not play soccer (the ball would be in the water in a second), but there was plenty of horizontal land for feather-ball. The fire place was the division line :). We had two day-trips, to Pigeon Forge and to Elrod falls (colder water to jump in)...totally different as an experience, but both were a lot of fun.
Overall, everyone had a chance to recharge and we all had a great time together. Mission accomplished!

We have stayed at this property before. On the side of the hill. No problem for young people. Older people might have a problem. Great location for our family. Gilmore Dock is closed, so we had to travel a few miles for gas. Rain all around us but not a problem. Getting ready to leave is always a problem. You are ask to wash and dry towels and bedding but the washers and dryers are not able to keep up with a large group. Too slow.

Relaxing Family Vacation
We loved the relaxing nature of this property. We were close enough to drive to do things but ended up staying around the house. It was so cozy and had so many things to enjoy that we all just hung out doing puzzles, building fires, fishing, kayaking, and grilling.

Great house and great host
The house is beautiful and the location we had yard space for the kids to run around and play and roll down the hills the sunset the Mountain View was absolutely what we wanted and it was granted the only thing no Televisions in the bedrooms but other than that we enjoyed our stay the host was awesome we called with a couple of questions and she was very prompt, professional and friendly we will definitely stay again if we’re in the area

Why is cleaning fee so high?
We were required to vacuum and sweep floors and wash/dry towels. Towel bar broken
We had to call manager to fix shower, deliver firewood
Home has great view with plenty of room !

Cherokee Lake house
this property was large enough for the whole family. we had 12 people and still had room. The kids loved the dock , they swam in the lake and loved jumping off the dock. There was plenty of life jackets of all sizes. The older kids loved the Kayaks. It was wonderful to have the lake out the back door the scenery was .beautiful ! I would recommend this property if you love the lake. Only thing I didn't like was the steep driveway and all the hills . My husband & Daughters had no problem with it

Cherokee Lake
Beautiful and homey. Lots of space, and very comfortable. Perfect place for us, loved it! Can’t wait to go back!
Some FYI info: Would be very difficult to park a boat trailer under trees where they want it, and drive would be tight for more than one vehicle, but doable. Trash dumpster is at the local dump. Not far, but was in the opposite direction of our return trip so it was easier to leave the money for them to take care of.

Perfect family get away!
House was beautiful. Pictures did not do it justice. View from deck was unbelievable. Great family get away. Would like to return when lake is full.

Spacious lake home
This was our second time staying at bear den south and we enjoyed the upgrades they’ve made to the property! The new beds were so cozy and we liked having a king upstairs. The electronic door lock made check in very easy and it felt like they were taking covid precautions and cleaning very seriously, which I appreciated. There are wonderful views of the lake from almost every room. It’s a great place for our family to stay when we visit the lake!

Excellent!
Our family absolutely loved this property. We spent our days in the lake; swimming, fishing and khaking. The house was beautifully decorated and so homey. Definitely will be booking again for the future.

Bear Den
Overall the lake house was great. Lots of room for a large group of people. Our group enjoyed swimming in the lake, kayaking and fishing off the dock. The lake is quiet with not a lot of boat traffic which was nice. Be ware of the rocky shoreline. You will definitely need water shoes.
One drawback was the beds were not comfortable in any of the rooms. I thought it was just me but it was the overall consensus by the group.

Family vacation 2020
The homeowner was spectacular. She worked with us through the height of Covid, answered all questions we had, and was friendly and helpful. The house is casual and well-equipped. Our group of 14 had room to spread out but also room to be together. The large dining table meant we didn’t have to eat in shifts! The dock was great for tying up our boat and for swimming. The younger set enjoyed the kayaks and the older set, the view from the deck. We had a great week!

The view was very nice but some things you should know
You have to pay for garbage! No garbage service and they say $35 to take garbage off for you. We left $40 and were still charged soooo apparently someone pocketed the $40. The house does accommodate as many people as advertised and the views are gorgeous! We had to wait quite a while for check in because key was not in box as promised. Inside is outdated and refrigerator did not get cold. Parking for 3 vehicles only and steep. Don’t try to bring a trailer and no boat ramp that we could find. The dock is not good for boats and jet skis and the bank is full of cable and rocks that will cut your feet. Swim off of end of dock if you swim. If you don’t have a boat or jet skis it will be fine! Due to Covid they did not supply sheets or pillows but did supply comforters which made no sense. It’s a real pain to pack that many sheets and pillows! They did offer to cancel because of that which was nice but we chose to go anyway! In summary, it’s a descent house with great views but outdated interior and certainly not plush. You apparently have to do all cleaning up yourself or they will charge and DO NOT LEAVE CASH for garbage fee! Otherwise it was ok!

Beautiful home! Only a short drive to nearby attractions!
Our family of 14 gathered here for a few days to enjoy each other's company and the beautiful weather! We had plenty of space to sleep, relax, and play. The living room and rec room we're absolutely perfect for our nightly family games. We loved the fire pit and big deck overlooking the lake. We also made great use of the kayaks. We drove over to Panther Creek State Park (25 min) and did some hiking and we also drove to Pigeon Forge (1hr) to sightsee. It was a perfect location for solitude with the added benefit of nearby entertainment and attractions. We will definitely be back!

Awesome place
The only problem we had was the hot water was not hot for the first two days. Other than that, it was awesome. Loved the views.

Clean and nice lake view
Had great stay house is spacious and lake view was awesome. the only cumbersome was to manage thrash and laundry of used linens which was not big deal as instruction was pretty clear and well informed before we checked-in.

Large lake house with incredible views
This property was great for our family’s time at the lake for a fishing trip. The house was very spacious and family friendly - everyone had plenty of room to spread out and have their own space. The house was comfortable and we especially loved enjoying the views of the lake from almost every room! It was easy to check in, however, you have to make your own beds with the linens provided and I didn’t catch that in the listing. We arrived late at night with our kiddos since it is easiest to drive when they are sleeping - but it was just an extra thing to have to make everyone’s bed late at night and you have to wash and dry linens and towels upon check out.

Great Stay on Cherokee
Lot of space for large group. We had 13 people, 7 of those children from age 2-14, and I still was able to find a quiet place to take a nap in the afternoon. Great location on the lake. Very quiet neighborhood. Think everyone was on vacation somewhere else. House is on the side of a hill so I would not recommend it for those with a problem getting around. If you have children, don't let them play around the deck. Railing doesn't seem secure enough and it is very high. Take your own coffee pot. The one in the kitchen takes 20+ minutes to make 10 cups of coffee. The ice maker doesn't work so you need more trays. We use a lot of ice. Not sure the frig works right but that might be our fault for opening it so often. The housekeeper and her husband do a great job. If you have a problem they are close by to help. It is well worth it to have her haul off the trash. If you let it pile up you will notice the odor and insects. I wish there was a cleaning fee added to the stay. Having to wash linens, towels and dishes before you leave on the last day is too hectic. That day is a total loss.

The property exceeded my expectations in most ways!!!! The internet needs updating to get better n stronger coverage throughout the house!!!! One of kayaks has leaks and takes on lots of water needs replaced or repaired!!!

Nice Lake and location
Our family had a good vacation but the house is a little tired. The freezer in the kitchen wasn't working right and it was too cold and the refrigerator part was too warm. Also the thermostat had been preprogrammed to way too cool and we didn't figure it out till our 5th day. The dishwasher control lights didn't work. There was also mold on one of the ceiling tiles in the downstairs rec room. We had fun with the kayaks and the fact that the house is right on the lake were a real plus. It looks like the house just needs some updating and TLC.

Family Gathering in Rutledge
I had stayed at Bear Den previously and thought it would be ideal for a getaway for my family that is spread out all over the country. We converged on the house for an extended weekend stay and have to say everyone thought the house was great. Ours was a large group, but there were plenty of utensils and dinner ware to accommodate us. Kids loved the lake and would still be there if we hadn't dragged them out. There was a pontoon boat rental nearby and we took advantage of that. The fact that there were kayaks available with the house and plenty of life jackets really came in handy. Everyone in the group (representing six families) said that would go back in a heartbeat.
