About this house rental
If you are an executive traveler, couple or family looking for fully-furnished, short-term lodging with character, look no further. This large, intimate bungalow has all the charm of its 1920s architecture and all the convenience and comforts of a complete remodel.
We keep the place spotless, thanks to our all-star housekeeper Ligia and her team. You will find all the comforts of home, including plenty of high-quality towels and linens; body wash and shampoo, and an ample supply of paper goods.
The basic setup is for four occupants with additional guests up to eight maximum, not counting infants who don't require a bed. We are located on a private lane and limit vehicles to three/four max.
In the kitchen, we keep coffee and sweeteners, ketchup, mayo & mustard, olive oil, and one or two salad dressings. There is also a spice rack and a nice collection of seasonings. We usually keep some bisquick and/or pancake mix, syrup, some rice and a few canned goods.
The 2000 sq ft craftsmanly home is well-appointed and perfectly located in the heart of Sacramento. It has a large front porch and is surrounded by trees. It has been completely rebuilt from the frame up. Virtually everything -- hvac, windows (except for the front four), electrical, plumbing, interior walls, cabinets, staircase, all fixtures and appliances -- is like new.
There is an abundance of natural wood everywhere, from the hand-rubbed custom doors to the carefully mitered baseboards and crown molding. It is a warm, inviting and pleasant place, and highly functional.
The house is adorned with an eclectic collection of music art in every room, from the happiest Beatles photo Linda McCartney ever took to gorgeous silkscreens of John Van Hamersveld's iconic 'Endless Summer' and Lynne Porterfield's Lou Reed at the Supper Club. There's a vintage Count Basie boxing poster from Sacramento Memorial Auditorium, Wes Wilson's Lenny Bruce at the Fillmore, BB King and Etta James by Gary Houston, the Rolling Stones in Oakland, Pink Floyd, Chuck Berry and others. There are numerous handbills and some original art pieces including Leonard Cohen, Grace Jones and Elvis.
I have also framed some original art and chromelin proofs of artwork used to create mags I published while at Tower Records, including Pulse! Magazine, which I created and ran for around 20 years. There are also some interesting original Tower-oriented pieces, including art used in Tower's London grand opening and an old decoupaged page from around 1973 with a story about Tower's Sunset Blvd store. They are a lot of fun and beautiful, too. I have lots of interesting things I collected that I rotate in and out of the house, so there should always be some surprises.
The upstairs bedrooms have queen beds, dressers, closets and share a bathroom. These rooms feature deep, relaxing hues of blue and green.
A laundry is conveniently located behind bi-fold doors on the upstairs landing, and includes a supply of laundry detergent and stain remover.
The upstairs bath includes a jetted tub/shower, hand-rubbed solid wood cabinetry and granite countertop. The downstairs bath has a roomy hand-tiled shower, with cornerless heavy glass and two sinks. We keep a plentiful supply of towels on hand as well as a few toiletries in case you forget them -- toothbrushes & toothpaste, shampoo and bodywash.
Dishwasher and dish soap, spot remover, laundry soap and supplies, an iron and ironing board -- all provided.
We also have two Graco pack-n-plays, a high-chair and a few basic easy to clean toys in case some little kids show up.
If you like to cook, you're in the right place. Whether you are a beginner or a gourmet, you will find this is a wonderful place for a dinner party. The adjacent breakfast nook provides the ideal place for family members to kibitz while you whip up the feast. The granite and cherry kitchen is fully-equipped, state of the art and all-Kitchenaid, including a large french door interior-dispensing refrigerator, five-burner gas cooktop with large-btu center burner and powerful exhaust fan, large wall oven and microwave with convection feature and dishwasher. The kitchen sink is a white Kohler enameled cast iron with their dandy half-height smart divider and the well-designed Delta faucet disengages for spraying or streaming. There is also a KitchenAid mixer, Cuisinart Food Processor, food scale, coffeemaker and grinder, blender, 4-slice toaster and Belgian waffle maker, and a molten chocolate fountain which I have never had the nerve to actually use. It's a really fun kitchen to cook in and there is a variety of cookware, most of which is new. The large granite island is also perfect to lay out the take out, if you want to dial up Plan B, the excellent French Fusion restaurant, or Duke’s Plates and Pints, the top-notch tap house and burger joint, both across the street.
The large mission-styled dining table accommodates eight diners and there are place-settings, flatware and stemware for ten. Lots of glasses, too -- small, large, red wine, white wine, beer, aperitif, stemmed and stemless. And lots of coffee cups. And a three-burner gas grill on the back porch.
The living room has a comfy American Standard leather sofa, a corduroy armchair and jump chair. There is a 40" HDTV with a Blue Ray DVD player with a sound bar. Comcast is our cable and Internet provider and the Hi-Definition Digital service includes HBO, Starz, Encore and other premium channels. We have also installed Apple TV if you want to access your Netflix account or the many channels available, stream Pandora or Spotify, or content from your iPhone, Droid or other mobile device on the network. The bluetooth-enabled soundbar will engage your phone or other digital device with a very quick selection from the remote. There are easy to follow instructions on how to use the stuff.
The office has a small desk/table, small file cabinet, executive chair, stylish guest chairs and a large secretary, which contains many volumes of excellent music and film biographies and reference books.
One downstairs bedroom has two twin beds, night stands, dresser and closet. The second downstairs bedroom contains a queen bed and dresser.
It's central location is close to everything. Dozens of high-quality restaurants in all price ranges are within a mile. There are several neighborhood favorites just 50 yards up the street: the aforementioned Duke’s and Plan B, Danielle's Creperie, Mas Taco Bar and a Starbucks. There is a huge Whole Foods two miles away and a very good Save Mart within a mile. The American River is about a half-mile, Sacramento State about two and Cal Expo about three. The State Capitol is about five miles and the airport is 20, around 1/2 hour. Lake Tahoe is 100 miles east and San Francisco is 80 miles west.
The bungalow is also close to Watt Ave and Highway 50, but you wouldn't know it. It is on a large lot with dozens of trees and a large rustic greenbelt that makes it very private. It is perfect for working alone or relaxing with family or friends, and its location is in the Arden Park/Willhaggen neighborhood one of Sacramento's most desirable and secure neighborhoods.
We invite your input and your special requests. We want to make your stay perfect.
Please call or write with any questions.
Sincerely,
Mike Farrace, Owner

The house is bigger than the pictures feel. Nice house in nice neighborhood. Other positive reviews were correct!
The house is well appointed, and A/C works great!
The host, Mike, is very welcoming and helpful. He has interesting stories about the house and his career. We enjoyed staying in this house.

As always, the property was well cared for, had everything we needed, and the owner is wonderful to deal with!

Awesome stay. The house was perfect for us. Clean, lots of supplies and amenities. AC worked great. Fans in the downstairs bedrooms were greatly appreciated. Liked the neighborhood - plenty of local food and stores and also close to everything Sacramento has to offer. We would definitely stay again - Mike was an awesome host.

It was 115 in Sacramento while we were there for my moms 90th birthday and the property had great AC, perfect cooking kitchen, great dining room and enough room for our family to relax, play games and enjoy inside activities. The outside lanai was a great place to read.

This is really a lovely property. All the bedrooms were comfortable and the bathrooms were all spotless. The house has four individual bedrooms with two upstairs and two downstairs and one bathroom between the two on each floor. We read the description as there potentially being more beds, which there aren't, but there are VERY nice double-sized plug in inflatable mattresses there that can fit in most any of the rooms. All the rooms have queen sized beds except one which has two twins. Ideal for three couples and two kids (8 total) but, of course, not all of the queens have to be for couples. I highly recommend the property and will likely use it again, as one of our kids is moving to Sacremento. The location provides easy access to all points in the city.

This home was perfect for those of use who came into town for a funeral. The home was very nice, clean and convenient for everyone. Thanks to our host Mike for providing us with such a great place.

Great location and wonderful host. The property was just as advertised.

My children and I stayed here in Oct 2023 while our floors were being refinished. I very much meant to write this review sooner but I was in the middle of a remodel and life was chaotic. It’s a beautiful house in a great location. It’s right off a busy road, but has trees that completely protect the property so you don’t hear any traffic. The owner lives onsite and we had an issue with the fire alarm beeping, and he responded right away, which I appreciated. The neighborhood is very safe and feels secluded, but it rigjt off a main road so it is very centrally located and easy to get around. I enjoyed the music memorabilia on the walls.

Clean, well appointed home. Ideal for the family visit to town. Thanks!

We had a great stay! We were in town with our parents for our daughter’s graduation from Sac State. We were close to her apartment so it was easy for her to go back and forth. We loved the front porch! We felt “at home” while away from home. We also loved the music theme. The house had all we needed! Thank you!

This house by far had the best kitchen tools and seasonings we’ve ever experienced. A large dining table and living room made for perfect family gatherings. The beds were comfy and the rooms were very large. Mike was a great host and quickly answered any questions.

Had to come for a week of medical treatments and this home was so perfect.
Mike is the perfect host. The home had EVERYTHING and was very clean and beautiful.
Thanks for providing an island in our storm. 💕

This house was perfect for our stay! The kitchen was very well-stocked, and top quality. We found everything we needed to prepare our holiday meal.
Mike was a great host. Even though his cottage was on the property, we never saw him. He was quick to respond to any questions we texted.
The music memorabilia was so fascinating!

Exactly as described. Nice neighborhood, sparkling clean, well-maintained, well-stocked house. Comfortable beds, all the amenities for a nice stay. Bottle of wine was a nice touch. House was very quiet inside and sound insulation was great. I was there with two women friends and once in my bedroom I couldn't hear them talking or moving around at all, which was great.

I do recommend this house. Situated in a secluded cul-de sac yet walking distance to restaurants. The kitchen is well supplied with spices and all you need to cook.

Such a great little house tucked into a private lane that felt like we were walking in the woods. Mike was very quick to respond and made our trip amazing.

This was hands down the best VRBO we have ever stayed in. The kitchen was well equipped with everything you need to cook for 1-2 families, the beds were very comfortable, it was centrally located to Fair Oaks Blvd and Watt Ave, had excellent air conditioning, and all features of the house were well explained by the landlord in advance or via a binder by the front door. It was also well-decorated (with real boquets, bottle of wine, and complimentary items) and had overall neat decor (antique furniture, movie/band posters). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and plan to stay again when we come to Sacramento.

Great House, Great Host
Logistics were easy and seamless.
House is comfortable, unique, and spacious.

The property is great. Plenty of room. Host was very helpful and understanding. Dining table great space for family to play some board games but also room for people to have conversations in the living room and never feel like you're on top of anyone. Had plenty of dishes, blankets, pillows, pretty much anything you may need during such a trip. Really enjoyed it. Very quiet and peaceful but then easy access to any major stores, restaurants. Very happy with our stay.

Two things important to me in a VRBO, cleanliness and well stocked (kitchen and bathrooms) This property fits both!
Lovely home well maintained on a very quiet street right off of Fair Oaks Blvd.

Comfortable, spacious, nice decor. Great location. Would stay here again.

We met with family in Sacramento and needed a place big enough for 7. We had plenty of room. We LOVED the house. We have artists and a music lover in our group, so the artwork WOWED us. The records in the office, the wood block prints, so much amazing art. We can’t recommend it enough.
5.0
This is a great property. It looks like you are surrounded by nature, while still being vlose to everything.
5.0
Need more seating on the front porch. We spend much of our time outside on the front porch. We grew up in northern California, so it was nice to see the redwoods again. Although the lower backyard photos are pretty, this area is not really accommodating for anything. A small "contained" firepit would have been a nice gathering area; instead, again we moved additional chairs to the front porch.
4.0
Convenient for us because of family nearby. Loved the fully stocked kitchen! You do need to be careful of the upstairs bathroom door as it locks you in if you’re not careful.
5.0
The house was immaculate with welcoming fresh cut flowers and even a bottle of wine. We were in Sacramento for a mini-reunion so we rented Mike's house for ourselves, our grown kids and our 8-month old grandbaby.
Was so nice to come back to the house in the evening and sit around the comfortable living room and unwind with a glass of wine. Huge beautiful modern kitchen and a very large dining table for the AM. All the bedrooms were large so everyone was happy. The interior character has been impressively maintained with beautiful darker woodwork that complements the furniture.
The setting of the house was also appreciated. This is a cool older bungalow style house with great exterior features that have been maintained rather than changed including: old arbors, columns, a large porch area, good size lawn and even a lower area with a stream. Beautiful large trees for shade - a must in Sacramento! The neighborhood is very high end on a dead-end street. There are also some very impressive neighborhoods nearby for a morning walk and, of course, Starbucks is conveniently located just around the block!
A bonus feature which may spark your interest, is Mike's rock and roll framed posters of the past. These are not there on a whim. With a little Google, you may appreciate Mike's deep background with the cherished history of Tower Records. Mike also has an impressive book collection of rock and roll, if you have time to peruse.

Great location for family visiting us in the Arden Park area. Clean and spacious house perfect for hosting numerous family members with a nice large kitchen and dining room. Mike did a great job communicating and providing necessary information for check in and check out. Will utilize this property again especially since no hotels nearby.

This property gave our family much needed down time space after visiting family all day. The kitchen was great! Appreciate the extra touches as it made it feel like home away from home.

Great property, location
He even stopped by to check on us and see if we needed anything!

This house was wonderful to stay in for a week for the 4 of us. The kitchen was one of the best equipped kitchens- containing a variety of cooking appliances, utensils, pots/pans as well as spices. The room were cozy and had fun craftsman charm. It was on a quiet lane but also so close to shops and restaurants.

We rented this wonderful home so we could bring family from all over the USA together for a special birthday. This homes made it all possible. I would recommend socks with grips because the house has original hard wood floors that are lovely but slippery.
5.0
We continue to use this property for our extended family when we visit the Sacramento area. I would highly recommend it, and Mike is the best.
