Paraphrasing the VRBO message and email I sent three days ago to Jodi Refosco at Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations:
Overall, the condition and cleanliness of this home was very disappointing. Among the issues:
- What seems to be mold in shower of the upstairs primary bedroom suit is unsightly and the shower knob turns endlessly without providing hot water. As a result, we had to take a bath or use other showers.
- The ice machine is glacial, barely providing enough ice to fill a pint glass in a day. We bought two bags of ice for a long weekend stay.
- Unfortunately, the freezer is also not very cold requiring us to put our melting ice cream and purchased bags of ice outside in the snow. We got lucky that it was below freezing and snowy outside.
- The oven is missing a shelf.
- The toaster oven is ready to be replaced.
- The basement king bed is sagging.
- We found mouse droppings in the basement cot.
- The basement fireplace does not work.
- The communal upstairs bathroom toilet seat is very loose.
- The communal basement bathroom has a badly stained sink and the toilet wobbles.
- The hot tub was warm and relaxing but I think I could have blown more bubbles in the water than the output of all the jets combined.
I’m also a bit baffled that we were provided exactly one trash bag for the kitchen trash can, and with no outdoor trash bin, and a community dumpster .5 mile away. We of course brought dishwasher tablets, laundry detergent and paper towels (and more) to supplement basic items - but I’ve never seen a rental fail to provide a means of collecting more than 12 hours worth of trash for a group of 10 people. Our family previously stayed in another Taylor-Made rental - among many previous VRBO, a*rbnb and other resort vacation rental experiences - and this was a first. Getting out of the driveway was challenging with the snow (it took us 5 attempts yesterday in our 4W SUV), so picking up large trash bags at a local grocery store was a hassle.
The location is great and very quiet. The living room and dining area were comfortable for our large group (friends/parents with children). Based on how it's furnished and decorated, there was clearly a time when this home was really nice and up to date.
But "well-appointed chalet?" Hardly. Having experienced it for three nights, the total rental cost for this home now seems quite tacky.
Worst of all: Three days since we shared our feedback and requested a partial refund, we've still not heard back.

We enjoyed our 3-night stay. The rooms were all clean and we felt like we had enough space. Check-in was easy and simple. The binder of information was well organized and appreciated. I’m an early riser so didn’t mind it, but something to consider. Overall, even the cons weren’t really very negative at all, and I just cannot recommend this place enough.

Only complaint is that the house isn't really "lake view" in the summer. I'm sure the view is nice in the winter when the leaves are gone. Also, there are some minor things in the house that need to be repaired, however the condition is good overall for a vacation rental property.

This is our 20th year of renting a house in the Deep Creek area for Thanksgiving. We have rented several different homes as our family's size & ages changed. This was our 2nd year at Glass Mountain Lodge. We love the location & the house. Unfortunately, because of Taylor Made's unprofessionalism, we will most likely not rent from them in the future. Upon arrival at the office, the person checked us in while sucking on his lollipop the entire time (I'm willing to overlook that alone but....). Then both fireplaces did not work. I called, repairman came & left without speaking to us. They still were not fixed, so I called back. I was told "someone will be over" but no one ever showed up after that 1st time. This went on for 4 days until finally I was told that a part needed to be ordered & we would not have use of the fireplaces during our stay. On our departure day, our door lock code was disabled at 10am - checkout is at 12 noon. we were stuck outside and had to call the office again. We were given a 1x door code (meaning we could only use that code to open the door 1x) & told to "just prop the door open". When I questioned that since it was very cold outside, did they really want us to prop the door open for 2 hours, we were given another code to use until noon. In addition to this the lock on the ground floor slider, the vacuum cleaner, the master shower door, & the towel ring were all broken/nonfunctional. I DO hope the new owners are aware of these issues, as it is a great house & I certainly would want to know if my management company behaved in such a rude and unprofessional manner.

The house was absolutely perfect for our family! It was impeccably clean, well stocked.... Much nicer than I expected! We all had plenty of space and never felt we didn't have privacy! I loved the layout! We were all able to relax! There were plenty of activities to do in the area for the children. I am so sorry that we didn't discover Deep Creek years ago when our children were young. We would definately have bought here! The amenities and the location of the neighborhood were so nice. The only thing we had a problem with was finding the beach area. We thought it was where the dock was. My only suggestion for the house is to have better instructions for the DVD player. We had a hard time using it! It would have been helpful to have detailed instructions! Otherwise......perfect! We loved it! Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with us!

We rented Glass Mountain Lodge and had up to 9 adults at one time. The house is in good shape and looks like the photos. If travelers are all Adults the house probably best with 8 people max, but we were able to have a bed for every one with 9 people. The GPS does not well on the mountain, and each of us did get lost on the 1st visit, but after one trip up the mountain, you will find it is located nicely close to WISP resort, Lodestone golf and the lake.

I am disappointed with our stay this year . We have been coming to Deep Creek for the past 6 years and this was the first year we were disappointed. We like staying in the DC highlands because of the location and amenities . When we first arrived we had to get the gate code from the rental office 3 times . The gate to exit was broke . We had to call the maintenance guy out to fix a loud beeping noise and also the tv 3 times. This was annoying becuase the pool was not available yet then we didn't have the tv. I felt like the carpets were in need of replacing or a good scrubbing I felt like I couldn't take my shoes off. Since the house only had 1 thermostat it was hot upstairs and freezing downstairs . The house really needs 2 zones of heating / air conditioning . Since it was so cold we tried turning on the fireplace to knock the chill out and that didn't work . It was disappointing because you spend all this money on a house rental expecting more in which those needs have always been met . This house needs some updating with the flooring. I would not recommend this property .

The TV's are very old, the hottub needs a upgrade, fireplace needs repaired, we were locked out at 10:45am on day of departure. Otherwise the property was great, kitchen well equipped, many child-proof items(gates for steps), grill was excellent. Plenty of parking. Great community .....will return

Overall, we had an amazing weekend with wonderful weather for the off season. The place was exactly as described and true to the pictures. Usually we like moving around and trying new houses for our fall visits but this could be one that we want to stay at again. The kitchen was huge and easily able to fit all of us cooking.
