My husband, kids (11 & 9) and I had a great time. The house was PERFECT for the four of us. It was exactly like the pictures except the pool, patio, and yard is even better in person. It was one of the prettiest residential pools I've seen and it was always spotless. You could always find a shaded place to relax and enjoy the serene landscaping and wildlife. We saw birds, lizards, giant moths, butterflies, squirrels, and monkeys.
We walked to Cafe Mar Azul for dinner and breakfast and drove to Pots and Bowls (3 times!) and Rip Jack's. All excellent.
Beach access was fast and simple. The house is 4 houses down from the access path. It doesn't get much more convenient than that. Waves were great for the boys to surf, boogie board and body surf.
Bring mosquito repellant. an umbrella (if green season) and a headlamp or strong flashlight for walking back at night from one of the several restaurants nearby.
Mike is a gracious host and extremely responsive. We look forward to returning.

Clean house with all the amenities needed. The beds were extremely comfortable and the air conditioning worked great. We loved spending the afternoons cooling off in the pool and the outdoor table for eating and family time. The outdoor fans were also a nice touch! We highly recommend this house.

This home was perfect for the four of us. We are two couples, in our 60’s, and have been friends for years. The house is very well set up for two couples. We each had a large bedroom with an ensuite. Closets and cupboards in the bedrooms allowed us to unpack. Huge beds with quality sheets and duvets were sincerely appreciated. The host provides enough bath towels to allow for changing them. We also were provided large, absorbent beach towels. Each bedroom has a safe so you can lock your valuables.
The kitchen is very well stocked with dishes, pots, glassware and utensils. A barbecue is provided but we went out for dinner every day. We barely used the living room as the outdoor living space was why we were there! The pool was THE BEST! I’ve never had my own private pool before and it was fabulous. We were in and out of the pool numerous times per day. We used the lounge chairs or sat at the table to eat, play games, work on the computer. We did not have any difficulty accessing the internet.
I also must say it was great to have a washing machine and a dryer. We had packed lightly and it was so easy to launder our clothes.
We chose not to rent a vehicle and we didn’t need one. We walked everywhere! The walk to the 5 km long Playa Grande took us 5 minutes. What an absolutely beautiful beach. We explored the area and walked to all the different restaurants. We had fun taking in the Super Bowl at Sugarees.
Our host was the perfect host! Mike was attentive and responsive

We had traveled all over Costa Rica tbe first week and was so excited to have this relaxing week at this wonderful house. It is also a great location for exploring too. The pool was fantastic. Loved hearing the howler monkeys in the morning and evening. Easy walk to the mostly deserted feeling beach. Fun to watch the surfers and sunsets. Easy walk to a small grocery snd several restaurants. All very safe and beautiful area. Great outdoor area and bedrooms were very comfortable too. Woukd love to go back.

The bungalow is a 2-minute walk from the beach, and the area is safe; our teens walked by themselves to the beach, shops, and restaurants.
The house is typical Costa Rican and has all the conveniences needed.
Mike was responsive and helpful throughout the week.

This was our first trip to Costa Rica and the Sexy Pool was the perfect place as a base camp. Great house, pool and neighborhood. Playa Grande is an amazing beach and this comes from someone who lives in So Cal and goes to Hawaii and Mexico. Do the estuary, use Byron at the Greatful Hotel, he is hilarious. Enjoy the pool and the beach. You can skip Tamarindo unless you like tourist traps. Bring dollars because it is hard to get to ATMs once you are in Playa Grande.

We recently completed a 9 day stay as part of an overdue sabbatical, choosing this property specifically for the qualities listed ("peaceful" "quiet" "private"). Unfortunately, we learned from the owner onky after complaining mid way through our stay that a "construction boom" started in December 2022, after our initial deposit. Our "unfortunate luck" said Mike. However, we had plenty of time to find somewhere else and would have, had he shared this or if the listing was accurate. Instead, we were awoken daily before 7a to sound of hammering and cement saws immediately next door, everyday until sundown, and were greeted with construction workers looking down into the house and property. Many times the noise was so loud we were unable to sit and talk outside. Mike provided a 1 night refund after we complained, though we only asked that he update the listing. Construction may wrap up soon next door, but there are multiple other nearby projects also underway that were loud and other lots clearly being readied or for sale. We're long time VRBO customers and have come to trust listings and owners/reps. We have never had to complain or left a bad review. This was a major disappointment - mostly because we could have avoided if accurate, complete, and timely information had been provided.

The location of this property is fabulous. Two minutes from a great surfing beach and a great jumping off spot to explore this lovely country. The property is so relaxing and well appointed. Beds are comfortable and the covered area outside is lovely to relax during the heat and when it is raining. Mike was very responsive and helpful prior to and during our stay. Thank you for sharing this lovely spot with us!!!

We were two adults. Nice neighborhood with houses and crushed gravel/dirt roads. Great local floral landscaping and fauna in yard. Birds, monkeys. Pool a far greater asset than we anticipated. Easy walking distance to beach. Slower paced than Tamarindo. Easy walk and boat taxi to Tamarindo. Large beach. National Park. Two small surf shops, one small market and several restaurants nearby. I was there to surf but there is far more to do. Very warm daytime temps. Uncrowded beach. Some home remodeling or construction in neighborhood. A little hard to find first time in. Give it a go; you'll like it.

My husband and I, plus our 7 year old son, stayed here for a week and had the absolute best time. We were able to work online during the day and takes breaks to utilize the amazing pool or even do a quick walk to the beach.
Each evening, we'd walk down to the ocean and watch the beautiful sunset, with a few surfers.. but the beach was never very busy. The water is perfect for kids to learn to boogie board or beginner surf!
We saw lots of wildlife including monkeys, lizards, crabs, live sandollars, hermet crabs, sea snails, etc. My son was excited to just walk around the yard looking for lizards!
Lots of dinner options within walking distance too!
Overall, the property was clean, comfortable, and just perfect for the 3 of us. We'd stay there again in a heartbeat. Thanks for sharing your wonderful home with us!

Two couples stayed here to celebrate 40th birthdays for a week. This was the perfect home base. Not to far from hiking, horseback riding, great restaurants, surfing and so much more. The community is calm and quiet and the people are wonderful. The house was clean and exactly as advertised. There is construction going on next door but it was shockingly quiet. We woke up with the howler monkeys in the morning and enjoyed watching the babies play. We watched the sunset each evening. I miss it already! We will be back!

This is the third time we have stayed in Palm Beach Estates, but the first time at this location.
The pool was spectacular, and we had everything we needed.
Any questions or concerns were quickly responded to.
To top it off, we were welcomed with beer and wine chilling in the fridge after our long travel day!
Couldn’t be better!

Great Home in Playa Grande
We had a great time during our stay. The house was very nice. Location perfect. A quick little walk to the beach or for food. The beds were comfy. Mike was very responsive when we had a question. I would surely rebook if I am ever back in the area!

Super Chill
Great place to relax. My wife and 18 yr old son had a great time here. Good restaurants nearby, or walk down the beach and catch water taxi to taramindo. The drive there is a bit long but not bad once you settle into it. Mike was a fantastic host, the pool is great, comfortable beds and a short walk to a beautiful beach. We enjoyed sunset every night then a dip in the pool. Coffee with the birds in the morning ... it was all good.

wonderful time
The property really suited our needs. We were 2 couples so the 2 bedrooms with king beds and ensuites were perfect for us. The airconditioning in each room was very welcome and worked well. The rest of the house inside was adequate but it didn't really matter as we spent all our time on the outdoor covered patio overlooking the pool which was amazing. The location was great only a few minutes walk to the beach and some good local restaurants. Our only complaint was the outdoor gardens which had amazing flora and fauna could use some help i.e. weeding, raking, a better irrigation system and some regular gardening maintenance. I think a weekly gardener would make a big difference here and guests would probably be happy to pay a gardening fee to bring this property back to pristine condition. We found this lack of maintenace a bit strange as the pool was pristine and Mike cleaned it every morning at 5a.m. making sure it was very inviting for us each day. Other than the lack of garden maintenance we loved it and had a great time.

Playa Grande
Great location and wonderful property for either a quiet and low key visit or a more active and action-packed adventure. Great communication with Mike, comfortable beds and a fantastic outdoor space. Very short walk to the beach which is really good for surfing, body boarding or just chilling.

We had a wonderful stay at this property, which is close to the beach and a few restaurants. The pool is a beautiful place to spend the day, and the owners are great to deal with. Highly recommended.

Beautiful Spaces Everywhere!
The landscaping and home were extremely well maintained and beautiful! It is very remote and we did not rent a car. I would highly recommend renting a car. We should have listened to our host, Mike. There was plenty within walking distance, but it was very hot. The house is hard to locate for shuttles and we had to call Mike, as our driver could not find the house. Mike was ready to take us to the Airport when the driver showed up! We loved everything about this property!

PURA VIDA!!!
My wife and I spent a whole week in amazingly beautiful and peaceful respite. The house is very cozy and comfortable. The patio and pool is where we spent most of our time watching howler monkeys, iguanas, hummingbirds and listening to the oceans crashing waves in the background. It is only a short walk to the beach and a few great restaurants. The host Mike is great. He keeps the pool super clean and is very responsive to any needs. We can’t wait to get back and enjoy true PURA VIDA.!!!

The BEST place for genuine R&R
My husband and I absolutely LOVED our stay. The home was quiet and comfortable and the pool was utterly divine. The local restaurants within walking distance had delicious and affordable food, and we walked to the beach at least three times a day. We'll definitely be back - it's such a great place to settle into; no need for renting a car - just get there and chill until it's time to get a ride to the airport, which can easily be arranged by the property owners.

The Perfect Escape
We just returned from spending the New Years holiday week at this wonderful house on Playa Grande. It was the perfect escape after a challenging year and served as an ideal spot to relax and recharge. Playa Grande is a beautiful and very quiet beach where our family could enjoy healthy living and fun beach activities without crowds or concerns. The house is just as advertised with attractive, clean spaces, a great outdoor area, lovely pool and very short walk to the beach. The owner was extremely nice, helpful and responsive. We had no issues. There are few places we would rather unwind and dream of brighter days ahead. Pura vida!

Paradise found
We spent 10 days in Costa Rica and loved it. The house was quaint and comfortable. We spent early mornings and evenings on patio overlooking the pool and watching and listening for birds and other wildlife. The beaches were a short walk and shopping was a short boat ride away. The restaurants were reasonable and the food was good. No complaints from us

A comfortable home away from home with a wonderful pool and a short walk to the beach. Great neighborhood with several good restaurants within walking distance and lots of opportunity for bike riding!

Great, quiet location
My wife and I just finished a week at this property (our first time staying there). We thoroughly enjoyed it. The house is spacious (2 bedrooms, 2 baths, living room, kitchen) and it has great seating outside at the pool (seating is covered in case of rain). It's a very short walk to a beautiful and quiet beach. The community is equally as quiet and also friendly folks.
We ate several meals at Cafe Mar Azul (two minute walk), and one meal at the Hotel Cantarana (5 minute walk). Both were excellent and priced right. We also ate one lunch at Taco Star (about a 10 minute ride).
In terms of food shopping, we opted to stop at Super Compro Huacas on the way in the first day to save us a trip back out.
Strongly recommend this house and we have already booked for 2020.

Beautiful and private
My husband & I stayed in this home for 4 nights in September. It was just perfect for the two of us, but would have been just as comfortable for a family or for 2 couples. 2 beds, 2 baths, and enough outdoor space so that it doesn’t feel cramped.
Check-in was easy. Mike was friendly & responsive. He manages to be quite pleasant and welcoming while also respecting his guest’s privacy.
LOCATION - wonderfully private & quiet. The only sounds we heard outside were raindrops, bugs & birds. So serene.
Beach is just down the road, a quick easy walk. It is gorgeous and feels peaceful and secluded. Easy to walk and wade; no rocks. Just soft sand & pretty shells. Facing the water, if you look to your left, there are some developments, but to the right you will see nothing but beach and beauty. You can walk for a half hour and see almost nothing man-made. There were chairs & a cooler at the house that we brought with us to the beach.
The roads near this location can get a little wild, so a Jeep would be ideal. We were here during the rainy season, so there were lots of puddles & potholes to dodge. Just added to the adventure!
You can drive to Tamarindo (30min+), but there are closer supermarkets and restaurants if you’re looking to stay away from the bustle.
HOME - the star of the home is the beautiful pool, kept clean daily by its devoted owner! There is an outdoor shower, so you can come back from the beach and hose off before taking a dip.
The portico really added to our enjoyment of the home. Even while it was pouring rain, we could sit outside and stay dry underneath. Table, rocking chairs & Weber grill make it a space you can relax in for hours. We had lunches and dinners outdoors, whatever the weather. The yard is spacious, well-kept and looks especially beautiful at night when the lights illuminate the plants and trees.
Kitchen has everything you need to make meals at home - pots & pans (even a cast iron), coffee maker, blender, utensils, etc. You’ll need your own oil, seasonings, coffee, etc.
The couch indoors isn’t very comfortable, but when the weather is pleasant, it doesn’t matter too much.
On our first day, there were a lot of ants inside, but we sprinkled peppermint oil around and didn’t see them again the rest of the trip. Of course, there are still lots of them outside, as there should be.
We would love to stay at this home again; already considering a second trip. Thank you, Mike and Katie! Pura Vida!

AWESOME PLAYA GRANDE BEACH HOUSE!!!
We absolutely loved our stay at this gorgeous home. It was super private (no homes on either side or behind). We LOVED the pool and swam so many times each day! It's only a couple minute walk to beautiful Playa Grande where we spent so many mornings and days and almost every night for gorgeous sunsets. And saw lots of howler monkeys and iguanas and other wildlife. The nearby Cafe Mar Azul (by beach trail) has phenomenal food! Breakfast/lunch and dinner were all amazing. Our fave was the breakfast burritos. Grace there is the best and she recommended Ruben for an amazing boat tour of the estuary (we saw crocs and more howler monkeys etc). Highly recommend! The house itself is cozy and perfect. Nice and spacious rooms and bathroom. We spent most our time at home lounging by the pool. We enjoyed quick drives to Playa Avellanas (Lola's is a must), Playa Pirates, Tamarindo, etc. And of course just a few minute drive to Rip Jacks where we frequented often and the heart of Playa Grande. We will be back many more times! Thank you Mike for taking such great care your beautiful home!

Sexy pool oasis with casual chill surfing beach vibe. Amazing vacation!!
This impeccably clean and casual two bedroom house is literally steps to the most amazing very unpopulated beach around. Unbelievably warm ocean and soft sand for miles with easy surfing. Every person we met in the area was friendly and just thrilled to be on vacation. No make-up! no heels ! no formal dress ! Just bathing suits, T's, sarongs, sandals , shorts and big grins ! Morning ocean swims at 6:30 a.m. and discovering leatherback tracks and nesting from the night before- magical. Getting to the beach at 5:00 p.m. with cocktail in hand to watch the sun slip below the horizon-wow. We sat outside on the porch overlooking the pool all night and day with overhead fans giving a welcoming breeze. Quiet neighbourhood, safe with enough restaurants in walking distance but literally a 2 minute boat ride if you want more action in Tamarindo. Howler monkeys, birds and raccoons the only residents who make any noise! Mike was a very welcoming but unobtrusive host, cleaning the pool in the wee hours and attending to any small matter we had very quickly. Very comfortable king beds in both rooms. Individual A/C if required. Lots of towels, dishes pots and pans, laundry and a charcoal barbque ready to go. We did a 48 hour trip to the Arenal Volcano area -zip lining, horseback riding, hot springs but all agreed we were really happy to get back "home". If you are looking for a very relaxed easy beach vacation - this is it!

Wonderful spot for peace and tranquillity
Mike was a stellar host. We loved that he was so responsive and generous. He provided beach chairs which saved us rental costs and when ask about a cooler found that he delivered a brand new one the very next day. He made several suggestions for Day Trips and activities. Since we stayed for 2 weeks we had time to spend 2 nights in Arenal at Tabacon at his suggestion and it was well worth the 3.5 hour drive. Locally we enjoyed Flamingo where Coco Loco was among our favorite eateries. We also visited Las Catalina’s and enjoyed Limonada, Pirates Cove and enjoyed Danny’s pop up tiki hut with fresh ceviche and cocktails, playa Avellana’s Lolas and brunch just across the estuary at Panga’s. As others have said the proximity to the beach was amazing. We arranged surf lessons at Frijoles and even I, a 52 year old gal was able to get up on the board and surf. The instructor was amazing. We ate at a couple local eateries as well. Loved!!! the pizza at El Huerto’s. Bula Bula was very good as well. Rip Jacks was lively. Others we were glad we tried but would likely not return. The pool was a major perk. It was great to hose down after the beach and then swim in the pool at home. Also morning swims were a great way to start the day. The house was well appointed, photos were accurate, others commented on the discomfort of interior built-in couches and I would agree. The beds were comfortable and the AC was much appreciated. On the subject of bugs... yes in the two weeks we were here we saw two tarantula (only outside), nightly spiders upon entering the home and one scorpion in the curtain on our first night. We made it a practice to inspect all curtains nightly and send my husband in ahead of me to check the house. While I am not a fan of bugs, this would not deter me from revisiting this lovely slice of paradise again. Thank you Mike for being such a great host and sharing your lovely home with us. We look forward to coming back again.

Great place for a relaxing stay
The property is all it claims to be. The welcome we received from Mike was informative and detailed. The house has all we needed. The pool... it is gorgeous and we used it daily. The beach is one of the nicest quiet beaches we have been on. Tamarindo is an easy boat taxi away.

Relaxing Home
We enjoyed our stay at Mike’s place. The location was perfect for our group of four. We were close enough to Tamarindo yet in a private neighborhood. We stayed four nights in July. Mike’s place is air conditioned which was needed during our stay.
To get to Tamarindo, it’s a 5 minute walk to catch a water taxi at Bula Bula Restaurant. The water taxi stops running at 5:30pm. You will need to take a taxi home from Tamarindo which is a 20-25 minute drive. It’s best if you stop in a hotel at Tamarindo and have them call a taxi.
The beach is only two houses down the road. It’s great for carrying chairs, boards, beach bags, etc. We felt safe on the beach. However, we kept an eye on our belongings and never it alone.
We enjoyed the pool each day after being on the beach. There’s an outdoor shower to rinse off the sand. The pool was nice and relaxing. There’s a clothesline to hang your wet towels.
Mike was great in communication. He gave us information for the restaurants in the neighborhood. Our favorite was Bula Bula Restaruant. Great food and drinks. Check out their buffet specials. We also had Breakfast at Bula Bula.
We would definitely return to Mike’s place. A great place if you are looking for a quiet getaway yet close to town.
