About this villa rental
Sweet Wind is a West Indian style home that sits just above secluded Hurricane Hole.
Easy access off the main road #10 with a paved driveway . There are 32 solar panels and 3 Tesla batteries to supply the power, no WAPA outages. The villa is very private, quiet and secluded, being in the Nat. Park. It's only 1/2 mile from Coral Bay which sports live music most nights, shopping and fine or informal dining. Right below the villa there is a pebble beach with 4 kayaks available to explore the 5 bays that include Hurricane Hole. The snorkeling is good with mangroves and reefs, along with sandy beaches. I designed and built the house in the more traditional West Indian style of 3 individual buildings with large decks connecting them. The main house being the kitchen, living room, and dinning room. There is a bedroom and bathroom attached via a private deck on the West side of the main house. On the East side of the main house there is a 3rd building, housing 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms with a large deck in between w/ dining table and lounge chairs. All the rooms have amazing views, you feel like you are floating right over the ocean, and this layout makes them very private. A lot of love and care went into designing Sweet Wind. Down stairs there is a 10x20 pool and another vert private bedroom/bath. This is my own private art gallery, with hardwood floors, Purple Heart cabinets, fine dishes, antique furniture, local treasures and a bit of humor. There are two separate decks for complete privacy. One of the showers is outside, built with beautiful rock work. The bedrooms are in separate buildings, or pods which adds to the beauty and privacy. There is a 4th bedroom downstairs near the pool with bathroom and outside shower. There is a lovely grotto behind the villa with an amazing stone retaining wall 9' tall and 100' long running all along the back side, that has the BBQ, orchids, flowers and herbs, and an outside shower. The villa has gates at both entrances that keep the wild donkeys out and children in. You wake up to an amazing sunrise above Hurricane Hole. This is the most protected harbor in the Caribbean, and we look out over the Coral Reef National Monument. There is no overnight mooring allowed in Hurricane Hole unless there is a storm warning, so views are unobstructed. Sweet Wind is very quiet and private but just 1/2 a mile from town and you don't hear all the music and noise from Coral Bay
I think the photos say it all, Nina.

Perfect for a large group. Every room had a view of the water. Felt like home with wonderful artistic touches and art. Always a sweet breeze. Well stocked kitchen. Nina was always happy to answer our questions. A perfect island retreat!

Myself and my three sons (over 40 ) and their significant others spent 6 days at Sweet Winds. We all agreed that we wouldn’t have changed one thing about our vacation. Sweet Winds provided a wonderful place for us to all enjoy each others company as well relax and enjoy nature at it’s best. The beaches and coral reefs that provided magnificent snorkeling opportunities were a daily adventure. There were many nearby restaurants and markets. We mostly enjoyed cooking fresh fish every night from a local market. Nina was a great host and readily available . We all look forward to coming back .

We had an excellent week vacation. two seniors, two kids and two grandkids. Layout with five bedrooms in three separated areas and a large common room kitchen was very good. Two bedrooms with showers, then two outdoor showers. Access to two kayaks on the water was great, but trail is slightly challenging (ok for us). Great view and location. Pool was clean and fun. It is not the Ritz, but certainly comfortable. Owner is next door, and very pleasant. Her dog adopted us, which was perfectly fine with us. The donkey was wild and kept his own schedule. Not air conditioned, but fans provided.
One improvement could be having drinking water treated or processed for at least one faucet. Such as an under the sink RO or UV light. Cistern and delivered water was readily available, and filtered, but we chose to purchase bottled water and boil water for consumption. Showers were fine.
We would choose the location again.

Just what we were looking for in a couples getaway. Enjoyed the pool, kayaks and snorkeling.

Our family of seven stayed for 8 days. St john is our go to for a consistently amazing vacation. Beaches, snorkeling, restaurants, dingy rentals, charter boats, hiking, st thomas, BVI, ….. there is an endless variety of outdoor activities. Our family rents a 4wdrive vehicle to have no restrictions…. Coral bay is much more rural than cruz bay. The property we stayed in is absolutely unique in amenities. View, great architectural layout, and kind attentive host. Staying in homes on st John you are certain to get an “outside a resort” experince that is priceless. This one exceeded all our kids(9,11,13,15,16) epectations and ours too. There was also an amazing bonus dog that would grace us with his presence when it rained, or when it was bored..

My family had a wonderful stay at Sweet Winds. Amazing location just past Coral Bay with stunning views of Hirricane Hole out past East End and to the BVIs. Stunning sunrises from your room and the patios. Nina, your host, is incredibly helpful and very engaged. Any texts received immediate and helpful responses. If you love dogs, you'll love Toby, who keeps a great watch over the property and the guests. We absolutely loved our stay and will be back!

Absolutely beautiful view to wake up to every morning! The location is great - close to restaurants and shops in Coral Bay and easy to get on centerline road to access north shore beaches. We only had one car but there is plenty of space in the driveway for a 2nd and possibly a 3rd car. Not every room has AC but that wasn't a problem for us - the constant breeze kept it cool at night. If anything is missing or not working properly the host is extremely responsive and is able to resolve everything very quickly! Her art is also all over the property and is lovely =)

Enjoyed the location and views very much. Driveway is narrow and steep, but that’s normal for St. John.

We were traveling with our two adult sons (our first vacation together in at least three years) and Nina's place was perfect. The layout of the house provided the boys with their own room across the 'breezeway' and we had our own room with a beautiful outdoor (but private) shower. The kitchen had everything we needed and the living area was a great place to gather but we spent most of our "down" time on the patio area outside of the boys rooms. Wow. Each night we watched the sunlight fade, sipping a cocktail, chatting and laughing while listening to our friend the tree frog in the back breezeway. That is what I will remember most about our trip. It was just lovely.
On the activity side - we snorkled almost every day and the absolute best snorkle spot was right out in Coral Bay! Nina recommended it. We used her kayaks to get out to it and we all agree that day was one of the best of the trip.
We also recommend Crabby Water Sports in Coral Bay. They rented us snorkel gear for the week and on our last full day we rented a catamaran (with captain) for a very reasonable price.
Nina lives next door and was always a text away with great advice and tips. Thanks for a great week Nina!

The views are beautiful and it is very relaxing. the house was clean and had everything we needed. Very laid back atmosphere. The grounds themselves could use a little maintenance behind the house and entering the pool area, yet that is the island life and acceptable as island living. Nina was great and available when needed. Thank you Nina for allowing us to love your home! It was easy to get to and close to everything we needed! Beautiful beaches, views, and the landscapers ( Donkeys & Goats ) made the experience a lasting memory and blast. Would do it again in a heart beat!

Sweet Wind is an older Caribbean style home secluded in Coral Bay. There are no other homes visible from this house....only water and mountains. The house looks out over Hurricane Hole, Princess Bay and Water Bay, and East end. This is the quiet side of the island and if you value beauty and solitude, then this is the house for you. Snorkeling and kayaking is a short hop away. Nina, our host, is nearby if needed, but never intrudes. The kids loved the pool and Nina's gentle dogs. Eight of us easily shared this home. We never felt the need to return to Cruz Bay and found everything we needed in Coral Bay. It's about a 10 - 12 minute drive to North shore beaches. If we return, we'll stay at Sweet Wind.

Nina's property is postcard worthy! Views, constellation skies and artwork make this home a truly unique experience that filled our senses with awe.

When we arrived the refrigerator needed to be cleaned, the coolers had a terrible fish smell and were also dirty. We found unclean dishes in the cabinet. The floors needed to be swept and/or mopped. Several screens were torn. We did not use the pool as the owners dogs spent time in the pool and we did not want to share the pool with the dog. (Which was mentioned in the listing). The kayaks were hidden down a path and were dirty. The owner did give us our cleaning deposit back - however we would have enjoyed it much more if the place was clean - The place itself is beautiful if it would be kept up.

This property has some of the best views of the east end! We had a great stay. It’s a steep driveway but that’s the reason for the great views of Hurricane hole. The breeze was so nice. Sunrise was always worth the early rise. I was impressed with the unique details of the tile work in the bathrooms and the artwork throughout the property. It was nice coming home after daylight and seeing Tov watching over the property as we pulled in. He’s is a great watchdog. We had a great stay. Thank You !

The house was amazing, very clean, and accommodating. It was stocked with everything we needed, linens and neatly folded beach towels in each of the bedrooms, the kitchen had everything we needed for the meals we prepared at home...the house even came with kayaks. One of our favorite days there was the day we took the kayaks out and snorkeled around the coves right out front. Nina was a wonderful host, and we really enjoyed her dogs, who occasionally visited. Steve was a great help too, answering any questions and guiding us about the island. We definitely hope to return for another stay in the future.

Everything about our stay was practically perfect in every way. The house was more than a rental, it was our home for the week. Our home was artsy, eclectic, and cozy. Nina not only shared her space, but she also shared her rich and adventurous stories and talents.

Our vacation was amazing, thank you so much Nina & Friends! We hope to visit again soon 😍

My family and I spent a week at SweetWinds and were delighted with the magnificent views, the peacefulness of the east side of St. John, proximity to excellent dining options (especially Rhumline and Skinny Legs) and beaches (especially Hansen Bay which is a must-do). The refreshing breeze up on the hill and the incredible stars were extra touches that contributed to the extraordinary natural beauty of the home.

We spent an ideal week at this gorgeous spot just east of Coral Bay. Most nights we enjoyed dinner on the deck with moonlight spilling out over the bay. The three bedroom suites were private and comfortable with great beds, sheets, each with a sunrise/water view. Easy to walk down to the water to kayak, or a little further for the easy hike to Brown Bay. Ditto for dinner or groceries in Coral Bay. A quick 10-15 min drive to Salt Pond or Maho Bay. It is a great house and we would love to stay there again. Thanks Nina and Steve for being such nice hosts!

I imagined trying this adventure with my husband, (3 children in their 20’s), & myself for over 10 years. The pandemic, among other things, kept us from booking it until now. This property is every bit as lovely as the photos show it to be. It was clean, well-appointed, & the views are gorgeous. Any questions or assistance (e.g, switching out tank for the grill) were addressed within minutes, which was very impressive. They also provided great advice on beaches, snorkeling, & hiking options. We’re already dreaming of a return. We highly recommend this rental!

This was our family Christmas trip; my husband, our daughter, her husband and their 2 and 4 year old children, our son and his fiancé. Sweet Wind was plenty of space for all of us!! We loved seeing the sunrise from our bedrooms each morning before heading out to a beach. The location was great…. So close to so many fabulous beaches and to Skinny Legs!!! Nina met us at the house upon arrival and greeted us like she had known us for years! I booked this Villa many months ago and Nina has communicated with me very quickly each time I had questions. The 2 year old needed to be seen by a doctor while there and Nina directed us to a doctor in town. That was a great experience too. We only have great things to say. Nina was a terrific host and her Villa is great! Until next time….we will be back to Sweet Wind!

We ran into several issues. The first being that the pool was unusable upon arrival and us having to clean it so it could be accessible. The owner also had multiple dogs that drank from the pool and were in and out of it. The owner also did use the pool with friends and all of her dogs. The stove as well as grill were unusable upon us arriving, making cooking almost impossible until we had their maintenance fix the stove. There were also additional fees to use the AC units that were never discussed.

Fantastic spot just above a protected bay with a phenomenally healthy coral reef a short kayak away. Definitely use the kayaks. Views were incredible and unobstructed. Our multigenerational family had a wonderful time. If you are in St John for nature and seclusion this is an ideal place. Host was very friendly and accommodating. Steep drive uphill also had a steep learning curve- don’t be dissuaded!

Owner was very nice and the views from the house are outstanding.
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO:
1. There is NO air conditioning. None. Owner said she could put a unit in a bedroom for extra charge. It was hot at night during May and everyone agreed that it was difficult to sleep if you are not used to the heat.
2. The driveway was VERY steep. It was a bit scary until you get used to it.
3. Owner has water toys and beach towels, which was a nice touch.
4. This house is what I call a 'bare bones' rental: We had to bring our own soap for the showers, coffee filters, everything. Assume you will need to provide anything you will need for cooking. We did not cook while we were there, we chose to go out.
5. Several Coral Bay restaurants were taking CASH ONLY.

Nina’s place was perfect for my partner and I. We were looking for a place with spectacular views, that was quiet and away from hustle and bustle - Nina’s was just that. Nina was warm and helpful, readily available to make our stay wonderful. Our days were filled with mornings on the porch, a hike to swimming at Ram’s head and then coming back to the outdoor shower. It was a great stay!

Our family of 4 adults and 2 children absolutely loved our stay in Coral Bay at Sweet Winds villa. I really won't be able to put into words how special this place is. The house is charming and spacious (comfortable beds, a bathroom and shower in each room, always a breeze, never hot!), the views are spectacular, the pool is such a great place to relax and cool off, and host, Nina, goes above and beyond to make sure your stay is just right.
You are 15 minutes to some amazing beaches. We loved Hansen, Maho, Cinnamon Bay. And for a truly remote experience Lameshur. Coral Bay is a unique place. Off the beaten path, but with everything you need....a couple grocery stores and a few restaurants.
You'll love it here!
Thank you, Nina, for a wonderful stay.

Quiet, private, away from hubbub. You could not stay here without a four-wheel rental - about a 30 minute drive from the ferry port and Cruz Bay. We'd absolutely stay here again - beautiful views and very comfortable place. Also- it was beautifully decorated with well preserved antique pieces!

We love "Sweet wind" in Coral Bay and all it has to offer. Nina our host could not have been more accommodating. A wonderful retreat with exceptional comfort and views. Each bedroom has its own bathroom for privacy. Also a beautiful outdoor shower! Kitchen has nice appliances and amenities. Large dining tables inside and out. A pool to dip in if you so choose. Beautiful art work by Nina hanging in every room. Right around the bend from Skinny Legs and Lime Out for lunch and dinner. We went to a different beach everyday. Maho Crossroads for lunch, Francis Bay to see turtles and Lameshur for a nice hike, Salt Pond Bay , Trunk Bay, Water Lemon Cay. Jeep rental a must!!! We will be back!!! (again)
the view and Sweet Wind is just amazing!

After a busy week above Cruz Bay with our kids and grandkids, a second week alone in this peaceful cottage with its awe-inspiring location, soothed our bodies and souls. An easy drive to both Coral Bay and north shore beaches, it was both convenient and private. Wi-fi was spotty but Netflix was great!

It remind me of an old fashioned bungalow. Filled with many unique antiques. Lots of artwork around the whole place, You can certainly tell Nina has "skills" at art.
You will not get a view anywhere, like you do off Nina's porch. Absolutely stunning.

Sweet Wind Villa was a delightful place for us to call home during our St John vacation. The view is unbeatable, it's close to everything in Coral Bay, and the separate bedrooms were perfect for me & my teenagers. The character of the property and the attention to detail are amazing; you have to see it to believe it. The construction and upkeep is obviously a labor of love. And Nina is the perfect host: she doesn't bother at all, but is immediately responsive when there is an issue (I didn't know how to use the oven, for instance). And when we arrived much later than expected because of travel delays, SHE FED US. That was an extremely generous gesture, and very much appreciated. If/when we return, we will be staying here again!

Visited Mid December 2021 – stayed 6 nights, 8 people
The view was fantastic
The location was ideal for our visit to St. John
I would strongly encourage you to read all reviews prior to reserving this facility.
You should compare the cost of this home with others in the area and note what amenities are available. A few amenities to consider would be air conditioning and back up power source. Power outages are very common and understanding if the home you are staying in can handle these outages for an extended period of time should be considered, with or without a back solar system and generator. There are 3 rooms in the upstairs that are just OK but slightly dated. All 3 had sliding doors/screens that allowed plenty of air movement. One room had an undersized AC unit that was used for a short period of time for one evening and then turned off as the breeze provided better air than the window AC unit. There is no other AC in the home. Fans in the rooms helped to make warmer temps in the evening bearable along with the breeze off the bay.
The two downstairs rooms OK, one had just been finished needed additional modern updates like light switches, outlets, and permanent lights and attention for water dripping inside the room during storm. Outdoor shower in lower living area needed a door for additional privacy. Wind pushed the shower spray. Water was hot which was nice to have after hiking and beach visits.
Upstairs kitchen and living room were fine. A few screens needed repair and two windows next to dining room did not have screens and required sticks to hold them in the up position.
Roku for TV worked after the correct electrical cable was located but only with internet access. Expectation would have been that this was working.
The kayaks…only one was available for immediate use. We did not ask for others to be loaded to the bay.
Home owner has bungalow that is about 10’ from the walk way that you utilize when you are going from the upstairs compound to the downstairs rooms. There were many occasions when we could plainly hear the owners boisterous discussions with friends, this occurred both during the day and early evening hours.
The owners guest also took the opportunity to utilize the pool during our stay, the guest and their dog appeared to enjoy the pool for a quick dip. I had expected the home to provide more privacy for our family but - that was not the case. Owner tries hard to keep guests happy.

A very comfortable but not luxurious house with beautiful views of Hurricane Hole, only a few minutes drive from Coral Bay.

Perfect place for kids or whatever else you want to do on St John. Secluded, but proximal to everything the island has to offer. If you wanted to, you could spent your entire vacation on this property. The host was extremely helpful and welcoming. We loved this place and definitely look to visit again.

The view was amazing, we could literally count turtles in the bay front the porch! And sunrises were beautiful. Kayaking Hurricane hole with kayaks provided was super fun too. Highly recommend!
2.0 / 10.0
The property itself is good, especially if you have a big family or traveling with a group. There are 3 full bedrooms, a full kitchen and dining area, and balcony/patio. The owner of the property is very sweet and helping. The main issue for me was that it is so remote, and no taxi wants to drive there. Trying to find taxi phone numbers is a whole another nightmare, unless you talk to them in person in Cruiz Bay, they just won't even talk to you on the phone when you ask them to come. So you must rent a car. This is great place if you like being away from everyone, very quiet, wonderful view. The pool is shared with the owner, so if you are not into that, then you may not end up using it. The whole island cellular service is also poor, so this is really a vacation for you, because you can't do remote work. The area is very pretty in the mountains! Another challenge is drinking water, it is not that good even if you buy it from a nearby grocery store, so you may want to bring a water filter with you.

We have a great week at Nina’s place! Loved the location, pool & could easily get to beaches and restaurants. It was perfect!
