Hey! Youā€™ve made it to The Summit House! (PSST - this cabin is my personal favorite of the four on our mountain! Ashley - Property Manager) Here you can escape the crowds and relax in this 1,100 square foot cabin, situated on the summit of a ridge line, deep in the US National Forest. There are breathtaking views from every single room, including the shower! At night, the skies are great for stargazing and counting the shooting stars. šŸ’« Sounds awesome, right? But, please read the description in its entirety to ensure this special and unique place is for you!

Because of its location, not only will you avoid extra town taxes and fees upon booking, but The Summit House also provides an incredible retreat from hustle and bustle of the big city. You get the best of both worlds! Gorgeous views bring relaxation from the spacious King master bedroom as well as the second Queen bedroom. The large, open living/dining area offers a space for quality time with friends and family while enjoying a fresh beverage. A beautiful bar off the kitchen will seat five where you can enjoy a meal cooked in the all stainless steel kitchen or the outdoor propane grill. If you prefer meals outside, there will be furniture on on the 2-level deck so you can take in the views. There is something to do for everyone from the adventurous hiker to the avid bird watcher or even the bookworm. Come relax at The Summit House for your next getaway!

The Summit House is entirely off-grid. We produce our own power, water (well), hot water and have our own septic system. We are 100% green and still have all the luxuries of home! Because we are green; however, we do have to choose which luxuries we would like to have. In our efforts to conserve energy, we have decided to opt out of bath and hot tubs in all of our mountain cabins. We also have have a filter, but the well water has iron in it, so please bring bottled water if this makes you uncomfortable.

ā†’ Bedroom 1: King master bedroom with sliding door leading to deck
ā†’ Bedroom 2: Queen bedroom on opposite side of master with a Twin futon located outside the bedroom
ā†’ Bathroom 1: Full bathroom with walk-in shower

šŸšØ We realize that this is where most like to stop reading, but we ask that you please scroll a little more to review the important information for the drive in and more! šŸšØ

ā–ŗāœØ DRIVE IN / ACCESS āœØ
The mountain cabins sit 5 miles off of Highway 259 and is accessed by US Forest Service roads. Itā€™s a beautiful drive and we oftentimes see white tail deer, turkey, and birds of prey including red tail hawks and various owls!

You will need a vehicle with some clearance as well as a bit of driving skill to make it in. 4WD and/or AWD is NOT necessary, but helpful.

ā–ŗ We strongly suggest:
ā†’ a small, medium or large SUV
ā†’ any size truck
ā†’ a crossover
ā–ŗ We strongly advise against:
ā†’ a minivan
ā†’ a sedan or coupe

The first 2 miles of the drive are easy and you can drive 25 mph. The remaining 3 miles are slower and requires some attention. You will cross 4 or 5 small creeks on the way in. Water is rarely more than 4 inches deep. The roads are rocky and bumpy, but will not ever be muddy.

There are also grades up to 12% on gravel roads. This means you will travel up the mountain until you have reached our mountain top.

Don't have a vehicle that meets the requirements, but still want to visit? We have partnered with Marc at Red Dirt Car Service and have several happy guests that have already used this transportation service! Please send an inquiry for more information.

ā–ŗāœØ TECHNOLOGY & CELL SERVICE āœØ
The Summit House now has Starlink and there is cell phone service! Verizon and AT&T work best, while Sprint and T-Mobile are limited. There are no TVs or cable. You will need to bring your own entertainment and pre-download your movies on your own device before arriving.
Disclaimer: Bear Creek Vacations is not responsible for reliability of internet or outages from service provider. WiFi is provided as a convenience only and is not integral to the use the property. No refund of payments shall be given for outages, content, lack of content, speed, access problems, lack of knowledge of use or personal preference regarding services.

ā–ŗāœØ BOATS, TRAILERS & ATVs, oh my! āœØ
ā†’ Boats & Trailers: Please do not try to bring a boat up to any of our cabins on the mountain! You will likely regret it, we promise! šŸ˜‰ All jokes aside, Beavers Bend Marina has slips that you can rent for your stay and itā€™s super convenient to leave your boat in the water. They can also provide a place to leave your trailer!
ā†’ ATVs: You can ride straight into the Ouachita National Forest from our property! Please check with the US Forest Service for all laws regarding ATV riding. Itā€™s possible for a group of riders to rack up several thousand dollars in fines.
Bear Creek Vacations will not be held responsible for any tickets, violations or accidents.

ā–ŗāœØ GRILL & FIRE āœØ
The grill is propane and directly wired into the house. Instead of a propane tank, you will see a timer. There is a fire pit. Please bring matches. Our cleaning service no longer provides firewood.

ā–ŗāœØ MAX OCCUPANCY āœØ
The Summit House sleeps 5. Due to fire marshal regulations and insurance purposes, the number of guests per cabin is strictly enforced. Additionally, our off-grid systems cannot sustain more than the max number of guests.

ā–ŗāœØ PUP-FRIENDLY āœØ
Maximum of 2 dogs allowed. No cats. Pet Fee: $150 per stay. Please review house rules and pet policy prior to bringing your pets to avoid additional charges.

Relaxation, seclusion, privacy, and immaculate views is exactly what we were looking for and precisely what we got! Couldnā€™t have asked for a better getaway from the hustle and bustle of Dallas! Our only hiccup was one of the A/C units was not working to itā€™s potential - we were able to communicate with the property manager and they promptly got it fixed for us and the rest of our stay was fabulous. NOTE: if you plan to bring pets and go out hikingā€”the paths are rather rocky and is hard on their paws for longer distances.

The cabin location was absolutely beautifully! Pictures donā€™t do it justice. We loved the seclusion and peacefulness. The kitchen was well stocked (a plus for us bc we like cooking). We really enjoyed riding some of the trails in the area in our jeep. We would definitely love to come back in the fall for the beautiful views!

A beautiful oasis. Super clean inside. Washing dishes in the sink was actually joyful with that view. We settled in for two days and didn't leave once, it was so cozy. Definitely will bring a 4-wheel drive vehicle next time. Our Mazda CX9 did struggle a bit getting up the dirt/gravel steep inclines, but it was a fun adventure. Having wifi was an unexpected surprise, so we got to binge some favorite shows when we weren't gazing at the view. Some trouble with bugs (Harvestmen spiders hatched outside during our stay blocking the front door and gathering in shaggy clumps for about 24 hours before magically disappearing our last day - grateful for a quick Google search that helped identify them - thank you, wifi!!!), but that is to be expected in a remote, mountain cabin situation. Our only complaint was that someone in a neighboring cabin was using a drone nightly and early mornings. It would hover directly above our deck and seemed as if it was peering in the windows. This is not in control of the owners, of course. Just really not friendly of the neighboring renters. We will definitely be back when the weather is cooler, and plan to bring our teens...who will be much more on board with coming knowing there is wifi. Thank you for a beautiful stay! What a lovely property!

Glad we got back again to take in those views. My pics still canā€™t do justice to being there. Just as last time, we especially enjoyed the views, the quiet, and walking the trails nearby. Hope to be back again and soon.

My family and I selected this property for our vacation because it was listed under the ā€œfamily friendlyā€ section but when we arrived it was abundantly clear that the property was anything but that. The doors to the back deck donā€™t have locks on them. Instead they are kept shut by a 2x4. This is not unsafe but also a fire hazard. When I brought this up to the host, they acted like it wasnā€™t a big deal. The property was also unclean when we arrived. Finally, the road to access the property is much more dangerous than the description provided. The hills are much steeper than described by the host. My family and I felt so unsafe at this property after a disastrous first night that we paid to stay in a different location for the final two nights of the trip. We would recommend this property to anyone. Iā€™ve attempted to get a refund from the host but they refuse to grant anything.

We celebrated our 6th Wedding Anniversary and wanted a low key getaway. The Summit House did not disappoint. We were able to watch the sunset, sunrise and even a dense fog sunrise which was absolutely stunning. We even stargazed one night and saw a couple of shooting stars. We can't wait to plan our next trip and check out the other properties. Thank you for the beautiful memories.
