About this cottage rental
The Bird's Nest is owned and operated by the owners of Shalestone Vineyards. Located in a community lake shore neighborhood just below the vineyard.
The deep ravine and active stream on the north side provides privacy and a soothing sound. There is a rental across the ravine so it's not completely isolated as to sound. On the south side of the cottage there is a family home and they are very respectful as to being noisy neighbors. Generally the neighborhood is quite during the week and a little more active on weekends at certain times of the year. If your looking for complete isolation this isn't the place for you.
This renovated cottage has a cathedral ceiling spanned by a large cherry log and accented with Stag Horn Sumac branches. All the woodworking is made from trees harvested from the property, (red cedar and white oak)
The kitchen cabinets are made from wine barrels.
The queen size bed has a 3' memory foam top and faces a large window overlooking the lake. Lounge in bed and listen to the lapping waves or catch the morning sunrise on the opposite shore.
A large deck runs along the entire lake side of the cottage and has a partial roof for sun/rain protection and is private from the cottages on either side.
The 75 feet of beach is shared with the owners as is the. 60 ft dock.
1 minute walk down the stairs to the beach or drive down for unloading kayaks, coolers or a small boat trailer. We highly suggest that guests have “AWD or 4WD” if driving down to the beach. Fire pit, depending on the supply and the season there is wood but it’s best to bring your own wood. It can also be purchased from several roadside stands Umbrella and chairs provided. RESPECTING OUR GUEST PRIVACY, owners would not be using the beach in the evening with the exception of loading or returning their boat to the lift.
Small pets are acceptable, but only with owners approval. $100 fee for cleaning and waste removal. Non refundable.
Reservations made using foreign currency, renter is responsible for exchange fee and must notify owner before making deposit.

Great location Among the vineyards on the east side of Seneca Lake. When we first arrived, it smelled odd inside, but after airing it out, the odor faded perhaps nobody had stayed there for a while, and we couldn’t figure out if it was old cigarette smoke or some dampness. As said by others, the outside deck was fabulous. There was a nice new dock to swim off of the roadway, Below and Lakeside was full of junkie stuff the neighbors kept, but this cottage itself was nicely kept by the water as well as inside. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and spent most of the time on the upper deck. The bed was comfortable And the kitchen well stocked. Would recommend to a friend.

Awesome little cottage, great location. Owner is helpful, friendly, accommodating, can't say enough good things. This is our second stay and probably won't be out last.

The cottage is so clean and so beautiful! The woodwork is amazing. We were so relaxed sitting on the deck with our morning coffee and watching the sunset in the evening. The only problem I had was navigating the steps down to the beach, and that was only because I had sprained my ankle 2 weeks prior.

Like many others, we spent much time in the rocking chairs on the deck taking in the view. Loved walking the vineyard lanes and Kate's wine tasting at Shalestone. Thank you!

My husband and I spent a really enjoyable week in the Bird’s Nest. The views of Seneca Lake are great from the partially covered back deck as well as from the large dock, which has comfortable seating to view the sunsets. We would definitely stay here again.
The one possible drawback for some travelers might be that the cottage is about a mile drive down a gravel roadway, so if you’re someone who likes to pop into your rental throughout the day, this might not be the best option for you. The slow drive is through vineyards, though, so it is very scenic!
The owners of this rental also own Shalestone Vineyards, and if you like dry red wine, make a reservation for a tasting. You will not be disappointed!

Beautiful as described house. Think of a "tiny house". It was perfect for the two of us and our dog. The deck, the dock, the lake, the views..every thing was perfect! Only complaint..we needed more time! Thank you Kate for answering all our dumb questions so fast! See you again..soon!

We stayed for 7 nights and it was amazing. The view from the deck of the water was beautiful. The place was perfect for 2 people and our dog. It was close to a lot of wineries and hiking. I highly recommend it.

Location and view are great. Cozy cottage and private dock were wonderful for a relaxing weekend. However, upon arrival there were many live stink bugs, woodland roaches and ants that needed to be cleaned up. They were mostly hiding in the blinds of the sliding door and once we figured that out we got all of them. I understand having occasional bugs in a wooded area but this seemed more like the cabin hadn't been cleaned prior to our arrival because the rest of our stay we didn't see any bugs. The bedroom and bathroom seemed reasonably clean, just dusty.

Nice place to stay when in Seneca wine country. Nice halfway point between Watkins Glen and Geneva on the east side of the lake. Greta place to stay.

This was a great find right on Seneca Lake. It was a great location for getting to Watkins Glen, the Seneca Lake wine trail and other spots in the finger lakes region. The cottage was very comfortable and cute and with access to the beach by the water. The firepit and dock were great for relaxing by the water. We did some closeby waterfall hikes and visited a few winery/breweries. Would definitely stay here again.

The Bird's Nest was a perfect place to hang out in October this year. The view from the porch overlooking the lake and trees was magnificent. The cabin was well equiped with everything we needed. The woodwork and rustic touches made it a fun place to stay. Kate even opened the winery on a closed day so we could bring some "reds" back to IL. So glad we found this place.

The Bird's Nest is cozy and comfortable- the deck and the view of Seneca Lake are just wonderful! Rob and Kate were very helpful and friendly, she even went out of her way to mail a personal belonging of mine that I had left behind. So much to do and see in the area, we highly recommend this cottage get-a-way.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Bird’s Nest. Just the right space for two. The view from the deck and living area are beautiful. Great spot to watch the sunset. Bed was comfortable with plenty of blankets and towels in the bathroom. There isn’t an oven, but we didn’t plan on cooking so it wasn’t as problem. There is a toaster oven available. We’d definitely come back for another stay.

We loved this property! While it is small, it had everything we needed and the home is lovely. It was easy to communicate with Kate for any information. The covered porch is great- we were still able to be outside even though it was sprinkling. It's very relaxing and the neighborhood was pretty quiet.

Overall this place was awesome.
! I wish I had found it for my other trips to the area. The house was well designed and had just enough space. It was unique and charming. The deck was great with a view of the lake and a beach to enjoy it really close. Kate was fantastic and made sure we had everything we needed she communicated when we needed it and was quick to respond to questions. I hope to stay here again soon!

We were celebrating my husband’s birthday and the end of summer and couldn’t have chosen a more perfect spot ! Very peaceful and relaxing ! Despite the rainy weather, we enjoyed ourselves on the covered front porch sipping wine , dining and reading . We look forward to returning soon!

The location of the property was the best. Just a short walk to the water and it felt like all the best wineries, breweries, and food we're close by. Would definitely rent again!!

This wonderful little cottage on the lake side turned out to be even better than expected. It had everything as described and pictured plus very clever woodsy carpentry details. It is attractively and comfortably furnished. The deck has both open and covered areas which worked out well when it rained.

We had a wonderful, romantic & very relaxing time at this cottage. The views are spectacular, the water is renewing, the place & property are very private. This is perfect for two people!! The owners were amazing! Their wine is excellent as well. We will most definitely be back. There are some gradual stairs down to the water but very easy to navigate.

Lake visit
Charming and whimsical lake-front property, with a fabulous deck, perfect for two! Easy check-in and responsive host. Note that there is a rather long set of steps to the beach, so a reasonable level of mobility and fitness is required. Great value. Would definitely come again.

A beautiful property in a truly gorgeous setting.
My wife and I enjoyed a fantastic stay at the Bird’s Nest. This is a special property in a one of a kind location. Visit wineries, the gorge, and come back each day and swim, kayak and relax on the dock. You’ll love it.

This nest is the best!
The location of the bird’s nest is ideal. It’s situated among some of the best wineries and breweries in the area. Perfect for someone looking to relax, whether it’s on the comfortable deck or lakefront by the fire pit.

Mother/daughter extended weekend
When we went to explore the area, we chose to stay at a spot that looked like it had more character than some. We were not disappointed. The view was gorgeous, the sound of water soothing, and the use of wood and decorations fun. The cottage was well stocked with books, music, games and kitchen supplies. The deck was a great place to sit and eat.

Perfect getaway
We enjoyed the bsolutely gorgeous views and peaceful serenity of the Bird's nest. It was the perfect location, right in the heart of Seneca lake wine country and we both felt the views at this cottage were better than any at local vineyards. We lived eating on the deck, watching sunset on the lake, and cozying up to a nice fire in the Adirondack chairs next to fire pit. We will be back! Many thanks to our wonderful host Kate!

Relaxing
Had a great time and enjoyed the view off the back deck. Very cool little house and a great location. Wish the winery right next door would have stayed open later. Highly recommend as the location was close to so many wineries and other things to do. Would definitely go back.

All that was needed
My huband and I needed a 1 bedroom by the lake. It was perfect for what we needed. Very clean, the lake side deck rockers made it, and located halfway between the northern and southern ends of the lake.

Perfect Getaway Location!
This was absolutely the perfect place for my husband and I to stay for our small getaway. Beautiful property right on the water. We loved sitting on the deck listening to the water and it was a great location to explore Seneca lake and over to Cayuga. Kate was a wonderful host as well!

peaceful and quiet stay
The cabin itself is pleasant. The balcony is lovely to sit on, and to eat on. The bedroom looks out on the lake. If the weekend had not been a fireban weekend in NY state, we would have liked to sit on the lake front (beach) at the firepit. The water was clear and inviting, but the weather was too cold to take a dip. We enjoyed getting away from Buffalo for a couple of days. And we enjoyed the peace and quiet. The bathroom was clean; the bed was cleanly made up, and had good pillows; the floor and tables were clean. My sense, though, is that the owner was not aware that the cupboards and fridge or the utensils had not been cleaned, perhaps leaving it as it was left by the last user, assuming that user were clean. We had to wash some plates, cups and glasses and utensils before we used them as well as the grate on the bbq. We had to wipe out the fridge which had stains from spilt liquid and food. We had to cover the wings of the bbq with foil as well as under the hood, so that we didn't have to put clean things on them. The utensils were cheap dollar store items — the sorts of items one accumulates for using 'at the cottage'. I would not want to go to the cabin again if it were in the same state it was in when we arrived. I think, now, as I write this, that I should have mentioned this to the owner, who seemed very nice and accommodating, because it was surprising for us when we got there to find it in that state. I don't want to deter others from enjoying the peace and quiet that we had for the three nights that we were there, but I felt that if I had to provide a review, I wanted to be honest.
