About this house rental
Le Petit Bijou is in the Provencal town of Saint Rémy-de-Provence in southern France and is owned by the author Vicki Archer. The house is inspired by the spirit of Vicki's books ''My French Life'' and ''French Essence'' .
Le Petit Bijou underwent a two year restoration led by the talented local architect Hugues Bosc and has been decorated by Vicki with many pieces sourced from local brocantes.
Vicki has created something that works for those who would like to discover Provence in a stylish way. Le Petit Bijou is all about providing a supremely comfortable retreat after a day of discovery in the region.
Le Petit Bijou is an air-conditioned, two story village house with a sitting room and dining area on the ground floor with a connected kitchen, guest powder-room and a lobby room. The first floor comprises a master bedroom and a double bedroom. The double bedroom opens onto a terrace with views over the garden of the historic Hôtel de Sade and the village rooftops. There is a separate WC and a bathroom with a shower and bath on the first floor.
Le Petit Bijou was featured in the August 2014 edition of ''25 Beautiful Homes''.
Le Petit Bijou is right in the center of Saint Rémy-de-Provence in the historical precinct close to the Musée des Alpilles and the Hôtel de Sade. It is in a quiet street off the rue Carnot with its restaurants, a patisserie and a presse. Saint Rémy’s Wednesday market is only a few hundred metres away. The spectacular Alpilles mountain range and the gorgeous village of Eygalieres are nearby.
Saint Rémy-de-Provence is a brilliant jumping off point for Avignon, Aîx-en-Provence, Arles, Maussane-les-Alpilles, Marseille, Nimes and the Camargue. The Luberon, Gordes and Sénanque Abbey with its lavender fields are about 50 minutes away.
The area is well served with transport links.
By train: It is 20kms and 25 minutes’ drive from the TGV fast train station outside Avignon. The TGV operates direct to Avignon from London in the summer months and from Paris year round.
By air: It is 75kms and about 55 minutes’ drive from Marseille Provence airport. There are daily flights to Marseille from London by British Airways, EasyJet and Ryanair and by Air France from Paris. XL Airways operates a New York to Marseille service. The smaller Avignon airport (20kms and 20 minutes) is served by Flybe from Southampton.

Our stay in St. Remy was perfect. The house is beautiful and in an ideal central location. All the amenities were provided, and the property manager was exceptional. She was very helpful and always available. We look forward to returning in the future!

We totally enjoyed our time spent in Provence and specifically at Le Petit Bijou. We spent our days sightseeing and returned mid afternoon to enjoy the comfort of the home. We especially enjoyed our evening/afternoon cocktails on the small balcony off the guest bedroom.
The TV has every channel you need to watch shows and movies in english. We were not impressed with the internet speed. You could not access the internet upstairs.
The parking is not allowed near the home. But it is only a 4 minute walk to a city parking lot with free parking.
Restaurants, cafes and most importantly to us, a bakery is very near.
We were very pleased with our choice for our Provence vacation. Thank you David, Vicki and Patricia the house manager.

Every moment of my star was better than imagined. The last cation is perfect. The concierge is above perfection. I look forward to returning.

We have visited St Remy a number of times, but staying at Le Petite Bijou made it a trip my husband and I will never forget. Every thoughtful choice and accommodation was chosen by the Archers to provide a unique blend of luxury and comfort. In the middle of town, and yet you feel as though you are in the countryside. And House Manager, Patricia, responds to any requests with lightening speed so as not to disrupt any plans you have. Treat yourself.

It is right in the heart of Saint Remy de Provence, and you can easily walk to everything. The house is also very quiet, tucked back just behind the square. A peaceful clean oasis but close to restaurants and shops. We visited many of Provence's beautiful villages, and this was a perfect home base. We will be back.

Loved the location and the lovely two story home. Would definitely stay here again. St. Remy is a great home base for seeing the area.

The property was better than expected. But where it was located and finding the property manager…. Who did NOT know we were coming was a nightmare. Owner did not relate to manager. If it weren’t for a restaurant owner who knew the manager and had said previous problems he had noticed… we would NEVER have located the property!!! Thank God we found the wonderful property manager by a phone call via the restaurant owner!!

Wonderful property! Location was perfect. Pleasant and responsive manager! Just what we expected. Small for two couples but great for girls or one couple. Parking was a challenge like every place in St Remy but manageable. We would highly recommend Petit Bijou! You will love it!

Excellent 4 night home base, real homey, good parking, Wednesday market day, good communications, etc. Magical & enchanting. We plan to come back and wouldn’t stay anywhere else.

Our stay was wonderful. The house was perfect and staying there was the highlight of our trip to France. We will recommend it to all our friends. Patricia was so kind and helpful.

We loved everything about our stay and would stay again for sure. We also are grateful to have chosen St. Remy instead of the other, larger towns that were not at all as charming as we were led to believe. St. Remy IS charming!

The house is lovely and the location is fantastic! Would absolutely stay here again and hope to be back next year!A truly magical and authentic Provence experience.

Absolutely lovely home in St Remy. My sister and I stayed for 3 nights on a recent girls trip. We didn’t want for anything. The decor and amenities were perfect. The home is walking distance to everything in St Remy and so quiet. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

This beautiful home is right in the center of medieval St. Rémy, with grocery, patisserie, and restaurants a 5 min. walk. Two bedrooms are on the 2nd floor, the kitchen had all modern essentials, laundry supplies were available, and my 80 year old parents appreciated the walk-in shower (while I claimed the clawfoot bath). Many unexpected treats were also kindly included, such as exquisite bath oil, shampoo, etc., candies, a bottle of wine, and fresh milk for the Nespresso machine. The manager is delightful and most attentive. She doesn't speak English, but is a dab hand with her translator app, and we were able to communicate fine. We also learned how to translate emails, so that was a good skill to acquire. This chic, comfortable respite is on our list of "must return".

I can't say enough about how amazing this property and stay was. It exceeded expectations - perfect location and wonderful host. I wish we had extended our stay here vs moving on to the next. It has been my favorite stay so far - I would come back here in a heartbeat. I highly recommend it - you will not be disappointed!

Our family (husband, myself, daughter and son-in-law) trip to Provence included a stay at Le Petit Bijou which we used as our home base. We were extremely pleased with the accommodations and location of the apartment.
The apartment was modern and yet, at the same time, quintessentially French in a shabby chic way. It was abundantly stocked and came with extras that most short-term rentals do not supply such as four (4) robes, soaps, room candles, and an abundant supply of teas and Nespresso coffee pods in various flavors. There were five (5) beautiful live white orchids spread around the unit and plenty of lovely books to browse.
Even before we arrived, the generous hospitality started with owner David Archer assisting with dinner reservations. Then during our stay, Patricia, who welcomed us at check-in, texted daily to insure we were having a pleasant time in sassy St. Remy. The food market was a stone throw away and could not have been more convenient for keeping the refrigerator stocked. The shops and restaurants were all with-in walking distance..
The rental description of Le Petit Bijou was completely accurate and should boast even more about what a little jewel it is!
We hope to return to St. Remy and would definitely rent again!
Merci!

Patricia, the house manager, met with us upon arrival & departure. She is an absolute delight! The property is in the very heart of St. Remy. The property owners were most helpful in answering questions & arranging airport transfers. We felt as if we were living like locals. What a gem!

Our family of four (two teenagers) stayed here for 3 nights. Bright, airy space, in the historic pedestrian area of St. Remy. Fabulous location, an easy 2-minute walk to cafes, ice cream and shops. Le Petit Bijou was clean and well equipped with special attention to details. St.Remy is a vibrant town (bigger than a village) with easy access to so many areas; Avignon, beautiful Les Baux, even the seaside town of Cassis (a 90 minute drive). The host let us check in early, which was greatly appreciated, and was attentive to our concerns. We also had a parking spot right outside of our home, although several neighbors advised us not to park there on market day, as the street was very narrow for cars to pass through and we risked getting our car dented/scratched.

Pictures don’t do this beautiful home justice!
We were excited before we ever got there then completely charmed and blown away when we arrived.
Christiane, who met us had everything in perfect order- and though she spoke very little English and we spoke even less French we managed to charade our way through all the instructions and operations. She was a delight and cheerfully available whenever we had questions.
The home was perfection from top to bottom and embellished with so many gracious, homey, details; orchids everywhere, books in the cabinet, charming vignettes of objet on the tables, nice fabric hand towels, wonderful bedding, well thought out storage for luggage and clothes. Vicki Archer has infused every inch of this charmer with her spirit and wonderful hospitality. We really felt like guests.
The petit little house was a wonderful home base for our exploration of the South of France and St Remy de Provence was one of my favorite little villages-so quaint and quintessential. There are wonderful restaurants around the village, lovely shops, and interesting excursions all within walking distance.
We’ve rented many vacation homes- and usually we find very very good ones- but this place stands out as the very best.

We had a wonderful stay. The apartment was perfect for two couples; extremely comfortable as well as beautifully decorated. We loved the location in the old town of St Remy and enjoyed exploring the laneways. The house was also a great base for day trips to the Luberon, the Pont du Gard and Les Baux and the Carrières de Lumières. We should have scheduled in extra downtime so we could spend more time enjoying the ambience of a beautifully restored old stone house. People watching from the dining table was great fun. Parking was occasionally challenging but usually worked out.

Perfect home away from home. Great location. Within easy walking distance to the center of activity and hightlights. Welcoming. Beautiful decor. Quiet. Restful. Parking right in front. Add to all of this a wonderful host, David Archer, who is easily accessible and responsive to your every need. David and his wife, Vicki, are a talented team who have each contributed their talents and committent to assuring your stay is an enjoyable one.Beverly and Ed Murphy

Our stay in Le Petit Bijou was outstanding. Everything in the house is as it is pictured and in perfect and immaculate condition and in superb working order. My husband and I are great tourers so we used LPB as our home base and returned home to have a glass of wine either on our terrace or in a cafe in St Remy, just minutes away. Everything necessary is around the corner, including great restaurants, patisseries, boulangeries and of course the famous market. St. Remy is a great walking town. Arrangements to rent were very easily made and Christiane, the local manager, was on hand to welcome us and provide guidance whenever needed. It is indeed a jewel.

My husband and I enjoyed our recent visit to St. Remy. Le Petit Bijou was a welcome sight after staying in hotels in Italy. The first full day at LPB, we took care of our laundry, walked around the lovely village, shopped, and enjoy a delightful meal at Le Laille ou la Cuisse. (It was so good, we went back for a 2nd time)St. Remy is, as stated in other reviews, a perfect base for venturing out to see other towns nearby. But there is so much to see in St. Remy too: Glanum, the Greek/Roman ancient city - fascinating, Saint Paul de Mausole, where Vincent van Gogh spent a year recuperating and painting, and Les Baux - a quick 20 minute drive away.We would definitely recommend Le Petit Bijou! (Also thank you to Christianne (sp) who manages the house. She took the time and effort to meet us near the church on our first night to "guide us" to the house! We had traveled all day, car, plane, train, and we were exhausted! )

My husband, adult daughter and I so enjoyed our recent weeklong stay at Le Petit Bijou in the heart of the delightful village of St Rémy. We heartily echo all of the reviews posted before our stay; the problem with LPB is that you may never want to leave the rental unit to see all of things that you planned to see! In terms of trip planning, St. Rémy is easily a base for sightseeing and day trips and Marseille is a convenient airport for flying in/out from London and other destinations within Europe. A quick trip to the TGV station in Avignon takes you to/from Paris and beyond. Try to plan your trip so that you are there to shop the market on Wednesday and do leave some time for wandering around town, walking out to Glanum and following the Van Gogh trail. We felt more immersed in french culture at Le Petit Bijou and in St Rémy than in Paris and found the locals very appreciative and patient with us as we practiced our French (our daughter and I were taking a language refresher course at Parlons en Provence). The gracious owners were very responsive and helpful in giving us advice about the area and they and the caretaker made us feel as though we were friends visiting them at their home! I look forward to our return.

The moment we walked into Le Petit Bijou, we felt like we were truly at home, away from home - only this is that home that you've always dreamed of, where the decor (modern French elegance), the comfort (down to the gorgeous, crisp bedding and very comfortable central air conditioning), the luxurious details (brocante picked up from local markets; L'Occitane and Savon de Marseille soaps) exude the love that the owners have for France and for the village of St. Remy. As homeowners who have overseen a major renovation, we were so impressed by the vision and quality of the work that was done.We spent 5 days in Provence as a family with two young children and did not want the time to end because LPB was our base. We started each day with fresh pastries from a local boulangerie, enjoyed the lively Wednesday market (incredible produce, meat and fish), and did mini-adventures in Les Baux (the castle is a real kid-pleaser), Passerelle des Cimes for climbing/ziplining, Gordes (breathtaking) and Aix-en-Provence. But our favorite collective pastime was just relaxing in the charming house and cooking up a storm. The owners, who are based in London, were incredibly hospitable from afar with their restaurant and sightseeing recommendations, their welcome gift of olive oil from a chateau that uses olives from their farm, wine, stocked kitchen basics, and the kind concierge who welcomed us and who was on call. After renting many properties on VRBO and Airbnb, this house and the wonderful service truly top it for us (and we've stayed at some incredible places). We can't wait to stay here again!
