Perfect for family reunions and get togethers! There are 3 bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms which could be used by parents/grandparents and then 2 more queen bedrooms and a bunk room which all share 2 bathrooms. The floorpan is very family friendly and nice and open. Enjoy one of the nicest beaches in southern California just steps from the front doors, relax on the balcony and soak up a dramatic sunset all the while enjoying a rare private yard. This home has a large private garden in front which is unheard of so close to the beach. You truly get the best of both worlds being across from the beach, yet have rare privacy of beach homes.
This home was completely refinished in 2015. All the surfaces are new. The mattresses are all top of the line memory foam, encased and then fitted with luxurious linens. The home is professionally decorated with a clean, sleek beach theme. The upstairs bathrooms are modern with glass tile showers and high end plumbing fixtures.
Listen to the waves crash as the ocean lulls you to sleep at night. Watch your children play volleyball on the sand courts right from the comfort of your balcony or enjoy a family dinner in a private yard setting. This is one of the closest homes to Moonlight Beach and you can walk to the beach in a few seconds and enjoy white water views from every room upstairs and on the balcony.

Glad to have found this property for our family vacation. Overall it was a success!
Pros: Close Beach, close to children's playground, lots of beach toys, wagon, chairs etc. Propane BBQ, Parked 3 cars 1 truck easily, plenty of room for 10 adults & 3 kids, close to restaurants and shopping, easy on/off freeway, 5 bathrooms, stocked kitchen utensils etc, beautiful view of beach, attached bungalow is great get away for a couple, great fenced in grass yard for little ones to play on, A/C, nice staff, right by a cool little painted rock garden, easy check in/out. Upstairs nice clean updated feeling to it.
Cons: Property to the north has bad water leak that saturates the driveway and is very slippery. They do have mats placed down to help from slipping. Entire house slopes south, internet is very very weak, bad cell reception too. House was a little dirty upon arrival (sand on floors, understandable). Downstairs has musty smell. Furnace downstairs is always running to move air round house, very loud for those sleeping downstairs. Even with A/C and fan upstairs bedroom facing beach gets very warm in the afternoon.
Overall, a great place and great stay. We had a great time! Still giving 5 stars.

We stayed 4 nights for my daughter's wedding which was very close to this house. There was plenty of room for 10 adults and the view of moonlight beach was fantastic from the living room. There is a lovely garden area as well with plenty of parking for 3 cars.

Our family of 9, ages 3-85, enjoyed this perfect beach home. The beds were comfortable and clean. The kitchen is well equipped. The home had enough supplies (paper towels, toilet paper etc) for our entire stay. The yard was an amazing added bonus and included yard games, and beach toys. We could have left our beach towels home - they were included!
Literally steps to the sand and a playground across the street. We were there on a holiday weekend and although the beach was busy, we were surprised how quiet the home was. We were able to park 4 vehicles easily on the driveway. We would definitely rent this home again.

Wonderful home for family gathering. Beautiful location with space for big group hangs and private conversations. Striking views of the beach and ocean which are just steps away from home. Cozy fenced green yard with blooming roses was an additional space for us too. This home is walking distance to downtown breweries, coffee shops, pizza and shopping. We had so much fun - highly recommend!

We really enjoyed our stay! The property was clean and very cozy. The views are gorgeous. We enjoyed the little garden with roses and the fenced yard. The location is perfect, right next to the beach and walking distance to restaurants and grocery stores. The parking lot is very big, we easily fit 4 cars on it. We look forward to coming back next year!

Our stay here was a great experience, The home was so clean and beautiful with ocean views. The yard was also lovely with plenty of room to sit outside in privacy. There was ample parking and it was so peaceful in the neighborhood. The beach right across the street added to the quality of the experience, in addition to it being within walking distance of shops, etc. Interacting with our host was also a positive experience. She was prompt and welcoming, allowing us to check in earlier, which was a great benefit after my guests had traveled far to get here. I would not hesitate to rent this lovely home.

Great location but amenities could've been better. Ants in kitchen drawers and on counter. Only one dishtowel, no facial tissue in entire place and could've used more towels. No top sheet on one of the beds. But location couldn't have been better. Loved walking to the beach and the park. Also, having parking was great.

Fantastic Beach House for Family Vacation
Our family of ten, ranging in age from 9 to 75, had a great time at Rebecca's Moonlight Cottage in Encinitas. There was plenty of space for everyone - the kitchen, living room, bedrooms, balcony were all great. The fantastic Moonlight Beach is just right out the front door and restaurants, coffee shops, pubs are just a short walk away. Check-in and check-out was a breeze. Can't wait to return next summer.

Family Birthday Celebrations
My family and I rented this home to celebrate a couple of birthdays. We had family members from age 8 to 80, and they all enjoyed the house. This home was great for my family and we really enjoyed it. The home's proximity to the beach is perfect as well. You can literally walk to the beach in seconds. The one thing future renters should be prepared for is that there are only 2 tv's in the house. There's 1 tv in the living room and 1 tv in the bungalow. If you like watching your favorite tv shows (even while on vacation), or if you have kids who really like playing video games, there aren't too many options. It would be nice to have the option of watching tv in the individual rooms. Even with that, I'd certainly rent this home again. Also, the manager (Rebecca) was great.

Fabulous Beach house
We so enjoyed celebrating Thanksgiving in this lovely home. We had people from 86 to 6 years old and it was perfect for everyone for a week. Nice accommodations close to the beach and a well equipped kitchen. The children certainly enjoyed the yard! Can’t wait to visit again.

Great location Disappointed by noisy constructions and insects (maybe termite)
This was our first VRBO experience. The location was fantastic the house was very roomy as described. The host was flexible in allowing us to do early check in and later check out. However, the construction on the next door house and the noisy work that was going on in the house at the back (which started at 7 am) really took a lot of our enjoyment away. I wish these were disclosed. In addition, the downstairs was not cleaned properly and we started seeing a lot of insects (termite). we provided the host with a picture. I truly believe we should get some credit back, because we could not really enjoy our stay as much as we could. Having said that if the above issues be taken care of we would go there again as we liked the location and the house itself.

Family reunion
The house met all our needs. We wanted our own bathrooms, close to beach, close to shops and restaurants. Nice treat was access to Netflix as a guest. Plenty of towels, shampoo, soaps.
My sis looked under bed when she lost her glasses. The floor needs sweeping. Plenty of cooking supplies. We r already talking about coming back next year

Coastal Excellence
This is a wonderful property, great for a family or group vacation. Beautiful sunset views from the deck or walk the few feet to watch from the sand. Easy access to all of the local amenities. Owner very responsive, but not at all obtrusive. Hope to be able to stay at this property again someday soon.

Great location
Very close to the beach and sand toys to boot! We really enjoyed our stay - the kitchen was well stocked and the place clean. Rebecca was very responsive. Note that they are doing construction next door - it got loud at times but didn't take away from our stay. Would definitely go back.

Good family fun
The house has a good location. It is not adjacent to the beach and the view of the ocean is limited, but it is only a short walk to Moonlight Beach. There were beach umbrellas, boogie boards, chairs and other beach items provided. There was plenty of room for our ten people. The kitchen/dining/living area is large enough for several people to use comfortably, and the deck is nice. The large kitchen island came in handy at mealtimes. Construction on the house next door is a bit of a temporary problem. The separate-entry bungalow, with its own small kitchen, is great for teenagers or a couple. The ocean suite would be unbearably warm in the afternoon without the shades being all the way down, and access to it from the living area is through its small bathroom. There was parking space for our three vehicles, which was very important since street parking is a problem. The small, private yard was nice. There were plenty of beach towels but we could have used more indoor towels. The manager was good to work with. Overall, we were pleased and would recommend the house for large groups.

Our Family week in Encinitas
We have been traveling to Encinitas since 1984. We have stayed in motels, rental houses, and with family. This unit was the most satisfying living experience we have had. It is right at the beach. The great room and kitchen area accommodates all our family at once. The out door seating area is great for dining. The bedrooms gave privacy to everyone. The lawn area became the Spike Ball competetion court. The view from the deck of the ocean is wonderful. We were here during covid19 so did not go to any restaurants. Instead our family took turns cooking gourmet meals for each other. We did send one person to Handel's Ice cream, to be eaten at home. Rebecca is easy to talk to and work with. WE WILL BE BACK. Steps to beach and great location!
This beach house is such a great location to Moonlight Beach! It is literally a block to walk to the beach, and then two blocks to lofty coffee and Handels.
The house fit our group (8 adults, 5 kids) very well, and we were able to use the kitchen and main room for a fun Thanksgiving event. Each couple and kids had plenty of privacy, and the kids could enjoy time away from the parents :)
If you are new to the area, this house is walking distance to so many great restaurants, bars, coffee shops and shopping. The house itself if well maintained, with a nice open kitchen and a bbq outside. We really enjoyed the open kitchen, balcony overlooking the beach and outdoor grass area.
The owner had plenty of beach toys, towels and umbrellas, although we didn't use them because it was raining and cool while we are there.

Best place best location!
We had such a great stay in Encinitas! The beach was so close and so clean. Great waves for beginners and the older kids who are more advanced. There are so many amazing restaurants close by we walked to Handels ice cream just up the street and then drove 3 mins to other great spots. Rebecca was an excellent host and had everything we needed at the house.

Perfect Place to stay!
Stayed here with extended family! Great vacation and so close to the beach...literally right out the front door. There was also a private garden in the front where the little ones were safe to play in a fully enclosed and fenced area. It was very warm during our stay and I was so grateful for the AC and slept wonderful. I asked the owner about the mattresses because they were so comfortable and I wanted to buy for my own home. Great walking distance to 101 and shops and restaurants. Rebecca is a great host and was ready to answer any of our questions. Highly recommend.

Owner not being forthcoming about the construction going and lack of AC.
The house itself is nice, it needs some upkeep maintenance, faucet in bungalow very loose, 3 kitchen garbage bags for the week, 1 roll of paper towel, no laundry soap provided, minimal towels for bathrooms.
But the real issue is how the house is advertised and what the owner is not disclosing to renters. The first issue was the major construction taking place immediately next door and the owners choice to not disclose it so people can select a different house to stay. At 6:45am every weekday the construction crews came, we could not enjoy the patio facing the beach during the morning or day because of the crews and very loud construction work. There was a concrete truck there the first Monday morning working all day. The next day a 60’ crane came moving huge steel beams. Kids couldn’t play in the yard because of the safety risk. The work went on every week day while we were there. Rebecca gave us a small discount back after we complained but this project is long lasting and she’s well aware of it, but doesn’t disclose the situation to unsuspecting renters. So beware!
In addition, the house is listed as having AC. It was the 3rd week in July and the heat and humidity was high. We then discovered that the air only works in the main living area upstairs. None of the rooms downstairs had air. One room had no windows. The ones with windows couldn’t be open at night because kids were staying in those rooms and we were concerned about safety. The situation upstairs was bad because the second “master bedroom” has no venting at all, it was an add-on. So to cool the room you needed to open the windows and use a small fan in the corner. In addition, the fire pits at the beach had lots of smoke that was then pulled into the room every night while we slept. After a week of inhaling the smoke, we finally decided the second to the last night we had had enough and left a day early.
Out of 6 bedrooms in the house only 1 actually had operating AC. Not at all what is being advertised. Rebecca said when we questioned why the air didn’t seem to be working, that “many houses in San Diego don’t have AC”. She also offered to bring fans if that would help. She had her handy man drop off 4 brand new fans on the porch in their boxes for us to put together on our vacation?! I have rented in SD area for 15 yrs this feels like I missed the opportunity to really enjoy my vacation this year! Disappointing!!

Family retreat
This home was just what we were hoping for. We were visiting the area to attend a wedding. Being so close to Moonlight Beach and playground for the children was FANTASTIC. It was nice to have plenty of sand toys and boogie boards for kids to use. The home itself is very charming, decorated nicely with comfortable beds. We enjoyed BBQing with family and friends in the private yard, walked into town for lunch. For families that like to stay together, this home is perfect. However, I might have to plan a "girls trip" soon, just to enjoy this home again.

Perfect Place for our Family!
We had a great week in Encinitas! The property is perfectly located at the beautiful Moonlight Beach. Our family ranged from age 2 to 90, and we all enjoyed the house, beach and the area. It was great to be in one structure that allowed for plenty of togetherness along with space to be alone. The playground was a big hit with our little ones and the paved paths to the shoreline were a big hit with our older family members (myself included!). The house is well stocked with beach toys/chairs/umbrellas/towels.
While there was construction on the property next door every day, it wasn't too bad. The men in our group were more fascinated by the work than the little ones! Yes, we couldn't really enjoy the balcony while the work was happening, but with the beach only yards away, it didn't really matter.
Family members enjoyed building sand castles, sunset ocean swims, Del Mar Racetrack, Sea World, Disneyland, bar hopping on PCH, dinner at The Crack Shack, Leucadia Pizza, Handel's ice cream and grilling dinner most nights. We had a bonfire night, during which there was a marriage proposal! Lifetime memories were made and will always be treasured.
Rebecca was out of the country when we were there, but was still responsive to any issues we had during the week. She was great to work with! We may need even more bedrooms when we do it again in 2 years, but will definitely stay here again if the home will accommodate our ever growing family!
