About this house rental

Welcome to Blackbird Cottage! On a quiet dead-end street, Blackbird Cottage is a perfect cottage for a couple or a group of up to four looking to relax on Seneca Lake.

The main cottage offers 2 bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the second bedroom with a Double bed.  The bathroom has heated floors and a walk in shower.  You can cook in the fully outfitted kitchen, enjoy a meal at the dining table or sit in the living room and take in the lake view through the large window overlooking the patio and the lake.

At beach level, our lakeside cabana, for relaxing or "working from home" by the lake,  is surrounded by a deck and outdoor chairs, just a few steps from your own lakefront, and is outfitted with mini-fridge and comfy furniture giving you a wonderful place to relax at the end of a day on the lake.  The cabana can be heated in the winter months and has a wall unit AC for the hotter months.  There is a small fire pit on the lake front as well for evening fires. Between the two buildings is a patio with an outdoor dining set, grill and of course, the beautiful lake view. It doesn't get better than than this!

The cottage ceilings are fairly low due to the fact it was originally built in the 1950's. We are also on a quiet dead-end street with close neighbors along the lake who also enjoy the relaxing nature of the area.

Whether visiting the area for our wonderful wineries, getaway, romantic weekend, or fishing our world-famous lake trout, you will love Blackbird Cottage on Seneca Lake!

There is a canoe for getting out onto the lake, which is located under the lower deck. Please use at your own risk and use responsibly. Great for fishing and sunsets!

The Good: The inside of the cottage was clean. The bathroom was roomy. The beds and furniture were comfortable. We loved the Adirondack rocking bench at the end of the dock. We had coffee there every morning. Very peaceful. The canoe was also nice to have. There was very little boat traffic in the area, so it was very quiet. Some suggestions: Towel racks in the bathroom, a salad bowl, beach towels, Plastic cups (The rules stated that no glass containers are allowed near the water, but there are no plastic cups.) Clean flotation tube and mattress. (The flotation tube and mattress were stored with the canoe and were covered in dirt and mold.) A cork screw that works. The Bad: We tried to go for a swim, however the grass was so thick in the 3 feet of water that one could not swim. My arms would literally become entangled in the weeds, whick extended from the bottom of the lake to the water's surface. The water is so shallow that I had to wade out to about 100 feet from shore before I was able to swim freely. The canoe allowed us to paddle out to the local public beach. During our paddle we noted that no other cottage had a significant weed problem. The manager said there was nothing that one could do about it and that it was a microclimate issue. However, a neighbor said that the grass simply needs to be physically romoved. The tables and chairs by the bungalo need cleaning, and the picnic table needs leveling. Bees are entering a hive via a hole on the side of house.

We stayed Thursday thru Monday. We did some hiking to see some local waterfalls along the Keuka Outlet trail. As non wine drinkers we visited some cool breweries around Seneca and Penn Yan. We had dinner at Beef and Brew and Parker’s Grille which were both great. We spent Saturday at The Windmill Farm and Craft market. It was great watching the sunrise over Seneca Lake sitting in the dock
