About this house rental
Welcome to Blackbird Cottage! On a quiet dead-end street, Blackbird Cottage is a perfect cottage for a couple or a group of up to four looking to relax on Seneca Lake.
The main cottage offers 2 bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the second bedroom with a Double bed. The bathroom has heated floors and a walk in shower. You can cook in the fully outfitted kitchen, enjoy a meal at the dining table or sit in the living room and take in the lake view through the large window overlooking the patio and the lake.
At beach level, our lakeside cabana, for relaxing or "working from home" by the lake, is surrounded by a deck and outdoor chairs, just a few steps from your own lakefront, and is outfitted with mini-fridge and comfy furniture giving you a wonderful place to relax at the end of a day on the lake. The cabana can be heated in the winter months and has a wall unit AC for the hotter months. There is a small fire pit on the lake front as well for evening fires. Between the two buildings is a patio with an outdoor dining set, grill and of course, the beautiful lake view. It doesn't get better than than this!
The cottage ceilings are fairly low due to the fact it was originally built in the 1950's. We are also on a quiet dead-end street with close neighbors along the lake who also enjoy the relaxing nature of the area.
Whether visiting the area for our wonderful wineries, getaway, romantic weekend, or fishing our world-famous lake trout, you will love Blackbird Cottage on Seneca Lake!
There is a canoe for getting out onto the lake, which is located under the lower deck. Please use at your own risk and use responsibly. Great for fishing and sunsets!

The Good: The inside of the cottage was clean. The bathroom was roomy. The beds and furniture were comfortable. We loved the Adirondack rocking bench at the end of the dock. We had coffee there every morning. Very peaceful. The canoe was also nice to have. There was very little boat traffic in the area, so it was very quiet.
Some suggestions: Towel racks in the bathroom, a salad bowl, beach towels, Plastic cups (The rules stated that no glass containers are allowed near the water, but there are no plastic cups.) Clean flotation tube and mattress. (The flotation tube and mattress were stored with the canoe and were covered in dirt and mold.) A cork screw that works.
The Bad: We tried to go for a swim, however the grass was so thick in the 3 feet of water that one could not swim. My arms would literally become entangled in the weeds, whick extended from the bottom of the lake to the water's surface. The water is so shallow that I had to wade out to about 100 feet from shore before I was able to swim freely. The canoe allowed us to paddle out to the local public beach. During our paddle we noted that no other cottage had a significant weed problem. The manager said there was nothing that one could do about it and that it was a microclimate issue. However, a neighbor said that the grass simply needs to be physically romoved.
The tables and chairs by the bungalo need cleaning, and the picnic table needs leveling. Bees are entering a hive via a hole on the side of house.

The blackbird cottage was the perfect place to stay to celebrate our 11th anniversary. The cottage is located right on the water for beautiful views of seneca lake. I recommend this house for any couple or small group of friends that want to get away for a few days.

We stayed Thursday thru Monday. We did some hiking to see some local waterfalls along the Keuka Outlet trail. As non wine drinkers we visited some cool breweries around Seneca and Penn Yan. We had dinner at Beef and Brew and Parker’s Grille which were both great. We spent Saturday at The Windmill Farm and Craft market. It was great watching the sunrise over Seneca Lake sitting in the dock

Everything was super easy, from checkin to check out! The house was very clean! It was a little small but it worked for us and for our short vacation! We loved it.

We did not have access to the cabana, which we were supposed to. Their was a nasty steam mom hanging out by the fridge and last the remote for the TV didn't work ( yes I tried batteries).

We had a great time. The house is great for a small getaway and has everything you need. This was my second stay on the property. The lake itself was pretty disappointing this time as it was filled with grass and there were a TON (at least five, two of which were massive) water snakes living near the dock/shore line that made themselves known. Otherwise the property is clean, well maintained, and charming.

This house was clean, cute, comfortable, and a great location. We spent our time there during the week. The lake was very quiet and peaceful. One recommendation would be to add two more chairs down by the dock, near the fire pit.

This place was perfect for two couples! Perfect little cottage on the water. Great to have coffee outside in the AM or have a bonfire on the water at night. Many wineries around to go to during the day and hiking. Would stay here again!

Serene setting for relaxation
Perfect location on Seneca lake. The little cottage provided the perfect home-base for our wine & beer tasting trip. The dock was our favorite place to have our morning coffee, evening wine and then cozy up with a fire on the pebble beach. Can’t wait to make our next trip up and would definitely stay here again

Underwhelming...
I stayed at the cottage over Labor Day weekend for four nights with my sister to do some wine tasting in the Finger Lakes. I have done this a number of times and stayed at a lot of properties. Originally, another person was supposed to join us - the cottage boasts sleeping up to 4 people. Unless they are in sleeping bags on the floor, I'm not quite sure where they would go! I wanted to love this place from the photos, but it fell short and I wouldn't stay again.
Pros: The cottage is in a great location with wonderful views. It is nicely decorated and some areas have been updated. The patio and lower level fire pit directly on the lake were very enjoyable.
Cons: The cottage is not really functional if you're staying for more than a night or two. The kitchen has no dishwasher (even though the welcome book from management mentions one) and very few dishes are provided so you'll do dishes after every single meal. If you plan to cook several meals there, you may want to bring your own dishes. The dishes, utensils, pots, and pans are very old and need to be replaced - and there just needs to be more of them!
The bathroom was pretty disgusting. It was not even close to being cleaned and when we called the management company they asked us to take photos to prove that the shower curtain was covered in mold and someone had left hair in the drain and all over the floor; they made excuses instead of apologizing. We ended up going to pick up cleaning supplies and take care of it ourselves, which was not exactly fun following our 6 hour drive to the cottage. They eventually dropped off a cheap shower curtain late at night. There is no medicine cabinet or counter space in the bathroom, so you'll have to put all your stuff in the small drawers under the sink.
The bedrooms do NOT have closets, FYI. Also the chest of drawers provided are either blocked by other furniture or don't open and close except by force. It's not a good used of space. Do away with extra furniture and put a wardrobe in each room; something functional for folded and hanging clothes. The mattresses are in desperate need of being replaced. The springs are poking through the sides and top and my sister and I did not get a full night of rest for the duration of the stay. I actually could not wait to sleep in ANY other bed by the time the trip was over. I'm in my 30s and went home with back pain.
All in all, save some money and stay in a hotel with a comfortable bed!

Girls weekend
my two Aunts and I had a wonderful time at Blackbird Cottage! the space was perfect for the three of us and it was an adorable little cottage. Our only comment is, the welcome package mentions a dishwasher and a washer/dryer. The cottage doesn't have either, and we spent a comical amount of time trying to find them haha!

Cozy Bungalow
Just right for a party of 2-4 adults right in the middle of wine country. We enjoyed having fires by the lake and watching the sun rise. Lots of good food and places to see in the area.

Loved our stay
We really enjoyed our stay at this cottage. Everything was clean and convenient. We loved the different layers of decks and used each one of them at some point in our stay. The cottage is decorated nicely and had everything we needed, including plenty of towels and washcloths, paper products, and cleaning supplies. Joleen was amazing to work with, promptly answering questions, and working with us since our first reservation had to be postponed in April because of the covid restrictions. The property had a great fire pit and the washer and dryer was an added bonus. We would definitely stay at this property again and any properties that are managed by Joleen and Myron Glick and Linger Hospitality. They definitely made our stay a great one.

Quiet and clean with a great location!
Check in was very easy and communication with the property manager was informative. We enjoyed the lakefront property and brought our boat. The house was very clean and well stocked. We found many comfortable spots to curl up with a book or play cards. We loved this house and look forward to a return visit.

Relaxing
The only issue was the canoe was not able to be used as advertised. It was not sea-worthy and there was only one paddle available. Otherwise, the stay was what was needed to recharge and regain focus. Great views of the lake and a wonderful atmosphere..

Wine weekend!
The size of the bungalow was perfect for me, my daughter-in-law and my youngest son's girlfriend. There were 2 small situations, and Myron addressed them both quickly and with a smile. The shower water pressure was low, so we called and he was there within a half hour, replaced the filter, and pressure was back to normal. Then, we left on Sunday, forgot something and couldn't get back in through the coded lock on the door. Again, we called and Myron apologized, gave us a new code to get in, we retrieved our stuff and were on our way! He was very prompt and both situations were resolved quickly! Probably the best response we ever had, in the four years we've been visiting. We'll definitely be looking to rent from Linger Hospitality again!

My best girlfriend of 40 years and I stayed at the cottage and enjoyed the lake and other activities around the lake. Wine, sightseeing, shopping and food. It was a memorable weekend for us. The weather was perfect and the cottage on the lake is a very peaceful setting. Thanks

Management oversight needed
Although the front yard is nicely landscaped (perhaps to impress future drive by renters), the back patio and lakefront beach area was like a jungle. My husband found clippers in the basement and had to cut back some of the growth just so we could walk to the lake without getting attacked by weeds, as well as, use the firepit. The bathroom sink drained so slowly, you could hardly use it. Half way through our stay, my husband used the drano from the basement and got it flowing. There were two chairs in the lake underneath the boat lift that no one has bothered to get out. Providing one set of towels per guest for a weeks stay is ridiculous. In addition, you are then expected to strip the bed before you leave! My husband felt like he spent the week as the property's maintenance man. This property has potential, but in its current state isn't worth the money charged.

Inside was clean but outside patio area needed cleaning up. Sheets and towels were very fresh, but the bathroom shower area smelled very sour. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

Great 3 day stay! Swim, Canoe, Fish, Grill, Bike...repeat.
I wish we had more time to hang out at the lake and go to more wineries. The house was as expected: nice to have everything you need to cook/grill meals, linens + towels, beds are comfortable, lake views are great, and nice to have the canoe to explore. But we spent as little time inside as possible- we came to be outside. (FYI: the lake gets choppy with boats and wind, so it’s good to have life jackets for kids to swim. Also, a lot of seaweed right off the dock, so you have to swim out to get clear water.)
We rode our bikes about 3 miles on back roads to a winery and the whole ride was beautiful. Felt great not to take the car. Also bikes to Mr. Twisties ice cream- 2 Miles max.
For the house, it’d be great to have pot big enough to boil corn, and despite the rental agreement including language about using the dishwasher, there is no dishwasher, which is inconvenient after cooking for a family.
I expect we’ll be back and hoping for good weather!

Cute place
Cute, little place that was perfect for a girls getaway. Comforting like home with a beautiful view of the lake. Quiet, clean, close to wineries. Loved it. We also were locked out 30 minutes prematurely, and the management company remedied the situation quickly.

Relaxing, quaint, quiet!
We celebrated a kids-free weekend away, and it was everything I’d hoped for: peace and quiet, calming lake views, and a serene setting for reading. We took the canoe out for a bit but mostly enjoyed sitting on the dock! Wonderful!

Perfect cottage with a gorgeous view!
My brother and I set up a get away for my parents wedding anniversary. When my parents came home they said the cottage is in a great location and watching the sunrise out over the lake was a great way to start every day. It was great to come back to this cottage after a day out and about, they couldn't have asked for a better place to spend a long weekend!
