About this house rental

Slate House is a spectacular and unique post-and-beam artist's home, located in a private wooded setting just around the corner from the picturesque village of Bernard, where the town dock and local favorite restaurant Thurston's Lobster Pound is located. The colorful and comfortable interior has a large, open living area upstairs, along with a fabulous kitchen equipped for the gourmet cook, a cozy master bedroom with beautiful tiled shower, and a deck outside the bedroom door. The downstairs bedroom has a separate entrance and bathroom. The artist owner, who lives on the property and works in her studio here as well, maintains an extensive landscaped garden as well as a small orchard and vegetable gardens - guests are welcome to roam! The upstairs living room and bedroom look out onto a small, peaceful perennial garden and the woods beyond.

This is a perfect home for relaxing in a quiet, out-of-the way spot, yet close to the village of Southwest Harbor (4 miles) with all of its amenities.

Pets are generally welcome, please ask! Dogs do need to be kept on a leash however as there are many gardens on this property. Longer term rentals are possible, feel free to call to discuss options. A 35% deposit is requested to secure a rental, refundable up to 45 days in advance of the rental; after that I am happy to refund your deposit if I am able to re-rent the property. Tucked the woods on the “quiet side” of the island. This cottage has so much lovingly crafted detail. Ideal for two people, but can be for four. The second bedroom and bath are in the walk-out lower level. Super dog friendly, but the owner requests that dogs be leashed on the property to protect her extensive gardening and that they stay off the furniture. The decor is eclectic and artistic and the place has a very full shelf of books to choose from. If you bring your dog, be sure to check out Little Long Lake park. We all loved it!

We had a lovely week at this house. It was very quiet and private as it was set back in the woods. We saw some deer around the property. The piano was wonderful. We had the windows open the entire time. The air is so clean here! Every day we went out either for dinner or an activity. I’ve had our dog with us and she loved visiting here.

Initially disappointed. Foul musty odor upon entrance. Not air conditioned/ wasn’t aware of this. Owner acknowledged having sump pump problems and quickly got this repaired. Had problems w gas stove and no use of oven but able to make it work. House was quaint but lower bedroom had spiders I had to kill and moldy shower curtain. Owner was very nice. Had to go out to buy bounce sheets and candles to help house smell better. Would look for different home to stay in if would return.

Property was perfect for stay on the Quiet Side. You feel like you are in middle of the woods, just sounds of nature. Cabin was clean and well appointed, Cherie was very responsive to all communication. Very easy access to harbor towns and west side Acadia trails.

Beautiful handcrafted home in a very rural and quiet setting. Wonderful and relaxing to return to after a day of exploring Acadia and surrounding areas. Everything you need is provided. Great water pressure, comfortable sleeping and just a charming home. Cherie is wonderful and friendly and easily accessible if need be. The visit from the porcupine wandering through the property was a pleasant surprise.

Cherie's place was wonderful! My husband and I spent four nights here for our visit to Acadia and loved it. It is tucked back in the woods on a beautiful property and was very quiet and peaceful, which was lovely to come back to every evening after the hustle and bustle of the park and Bar Harbor. The kitchen was very well equipped and we cooked lots of our meals at the house. Cherie was an excellent host and was very communicative and happy to answer any questions. Would love to stay again the next time we visit the area.

We had a wonderful time staying at the Slate House. Cherie is providing a house that is relaxing and surrounds you with everything you need to feed your spirit! The house itself is very special. The house is nestled in the woods with perennial gardens. Within the house you will be surrounded by art. The house itself is situated just 3 miles from the Southwest Harbor and within 3 miles of Acadia west island hiking trails. You will be a max of a 20 minutes drive to the Acadia National Park Beach entrance. Thank you to Cherie for sharing her house.
