The Old Church is a stunning, unique, detached property located in the delightful hamlet of Alton in rural Derbyshire. It has beautiful architectural features coupled with a spacious and classy interior, and the finish throughout is truly exceptional. The Old Church is situated in the heart of this pretty little hamlet on the outskirts of the village of Ashover, a previous winner of ‘Village of the Year’. It is just 6 miles from the very popular tourist town of Matlock and is perfectly placed for discovering everything the Peak District has to offer.
The property has been renovated to a very high standard throughout; great efforts have been made to preserve and accentuate its original features such as the glorious arched windows, exposed stonework and the ornate cast-iron radiators, as well as to ensure that contemporary comforts of the highest standard are also included.
The traditional oak kitchen has a coffee machine and breakfast bar area, often bathed in sunlight giving it a light and airy feel, stepping down through French doors into the exquisite dining room area. The large dining table, arched window, cosy window seats and oak flooring give the property a luxurious and welcoming feel, with views out into the countryside and into the village. The beautiful oak flooring extends through the reading nook in the entrance hall through into the living room, with its tasteful decoration and wood burner - perfect for evenings in. The sumptuous bedrooms upstairs have a fresh and relaxing feel, both with Smart TV’s and high quality en-suite bathrooms with luxury showers and underfloor heating. The indulgent downstairs bathroom boasts a striking freestanding bath and mood lighting, plus underfloor heating. There is parking for two to three vehicles and a delightful garden and seating area at the rear of the property overlooking the rolling countryside with views of Bolsover castle.
Alton is a peaceful rural hamlet, just a mile from Ashover, which itself has a selection of inns and village shops. There are several farm shops and eateries within 1-3 miles, and fishing ponds, a golf course and a riding school are all within 5 minutes’ drive. Chatsworth House is just a 15-minute trip, as are Haddon Hall and Hardwick Hall, and the nearest town of Matlock is full of attractions and amenities: there is a beautiful park, the attractions of Matlock Bath and the Heights of Abraham (a hilltop park), as well as a popular golf course and antique shops. Bakewell, with its bustling farmers market, boutique shops and riverside activity, is just 20 minutes away, and is a perfect gateway to both the Dark Peak and White Peak areas that this stunning region is known for. If staying closer to home is more your intention, the property offers a selection of walks from the door, linking in to the huge network of footpaths around the Ashover Parish and beyond. The historic market town of Chesterfield, with its famous crooked spire, is just 6 miles away, and has many cycle paths along its canal, as well as plenty of rainy day activities. Slightly further afield you can find English Heritage’s Bolsover Castle which is full of intrigue and proud history, and which boasts a calendar brimming with events. Alternatively, you can try your hand at a variety of water sports at Carsington Reservoir. The Old Church offers everything you could need to enjoy the beautiful Peak District, and a very warm welcome awaits you at this idyllic retreat. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.
