This was the perfect location for me to visit family in Waimea. Definitely not a “tourist type” location unless you want a beautiful base camp to explore the North end.
Cooler weather, but 15-20 miles gets you 15-20 degrees in temperature.
Excellent accommodations and just as the pictures show.

Robyn's place is very spacious and located in a quiet safe neighborhood. She supplied many extras like; beach equipment, shampoo, conditioner and sunscreen. We really appreciated the delicious welcome goodies. Communication with Robyn was excellent. She was very responsive and flexible to our changing needs. Mahalo Robyn.

Overall the property is nice and worked for my long stay. There were a few issues but Kathy was very responsive and got us fix up quickly. The only negatives would be when the upstairs unit is rented... they can be rather loud "walkers" and the beds really could use new mattresses. They have added pillow toppers but they are way too soft & no support. Those are the only reason for a 4 star instead of a 5. I would absolutely rent it again..

Quiet beautiful place and a little up the road were the clouds every morning. The temperatures are not so high as it’s at medium elevations. What an awesome place. Waimea is a good starting point for exploring the island in all directions.

This place, overall, has been fine. After staying in two places on the Big Island just before coming here that we’re amazing ( charming, beautiful both inside and out), this one does not compare. But, it is clean, spacious, and acceptable. Pros are a well-stocked kitchen ( for cooking or not), well-stocked bathroom. The driveway and outside look quite tired, as do the beds and bedding ( the beds are like sleeping in marshmallows). If you like really soft beds you’ll like them. There is a nice welcome basket on the table with chips and candy. There is an apartment upstairs and as a consequence there is noise if it is occupied that comes through floors. Carpet up there might help with that. There are also ice chests on the porch that can be used, as well as new snorkeling equipment and beach/lawn chairs and umbrellas. All in all, more pros than cons.

We were looking for an affordable longer term rental in this particular area. The property met our needs. The owner was very responsive to our requests when needed.

Lovely neighborhood…. Enjoyed our home away from home! Had everything we needed for our stay. Waimea is a great little town! Love that it cools off in the evening for sleeping.

Nice location. Almost daily drizzle. Temps 70-75 vs the beaches 80-90. Not fancy, but was very clean on the inside. I would stay again

The property was quaint in the lovely town of Kamuela and well appointed. My needs for an extended stay was accommodated; however, it was cut short due to the dampness/musty smell (that couldn’t be removed by the dehumidifier) and safety concerns of some windows inability to lock. This was communicated to both the owners and property manager and I immediately received responses to rectify the situation and they were very understanding.

Long overdue Family visit!
Hadn't seen my dad or brother since before COVID and it was time. They live in Paailio so Robyn's place was the perfect place, convenient, and love being near Waimea where it is cooler. Also was pleasantly surprised that the apartment had a de-humidifier. I am used to the mildew and musky smells from the humidity in Waimea and having the de-humidifier was a huge plus. It was cool during our visit, so the de-humidifier acted as a heater and was a bit loud, but once you closed the bedroom door, wasn't a problem. Very comfortable and well stocked. Thank you Robyn.

Nice place to stay in Waimea
Good place to stay. Tried to use the grill, but it was out of propane. The place is a little musty, but being that it is in Waimea, that is understandable. The bed was really squishy and not supportive. However, overall, it was a clean and quiet place.

Clean condo in the clouds
The condo was well appointed- pots and pans to seasonings and beach equipment. A little dated but very clean. The dehumidifier was a little noisy was only issue I can think of negatively. Would definitely stay again

Well worth it.

If you’re staying for 3-4 days maybe you could manage the very uncomfortable beds and couches.
Both mattresses sunk in the middle. There was no hard copy info on how the TV worked or where you could dump your garage because it is up to the renters to deal with their garbages. We rented for 3 weeks in December and there was no heat source.

Great place close to town and the beach
Well kept and very clean 1st floor unit! The area seems to be a cooler location on the island so no ac wasn't a problem at all. The unit is very spacious and we had more than enough room. I would absolutely stay again and recommend it to anyone.

Sadly, this home was not what we had expected for our 2 week stay. The home itself is cute and clean, and the décor is very inviting. The amenities are all very nice, and the internet works great! At a somewhat higher elevation, it is cooler (meaning 55° in the mornings), especially if it’s cloudy and raining as it was during our stay. The pictures don’t show it, but the home sits in somewhat of a hole, even though it is located way up on the hill. On a clear day, and if you are in the right spot you can see Mauna Kea. However, note that this is a lower-level apartment, and if there are people upstairs, it’s very noisy. Unfortunately for us, there was a family with two small children that kept running back and forth, dragging chairs, and clomping as kids will do. We tried talking with them and they apologized and said they would try to control it, but we still had to endure the noise. We also tried contacting Robyn, who said she would give us a refund if we wanted to move to a different home. Sadly, there wasn’t anything affordable available. There are actually 2 (duplexes?) on the property, meaning if there is somebody living/staying in all 4, there are multitudes of cars in the drive. If it hadn’t been for the noise from upstairs, it would have been a lovely place to stay. We’ve rented many homes via VRBO over the last 16 years, and this is by far the worst experience we’ve encountered. Again, it is a nice home, just beware if there is a booking upstairs.

Great home feeling. More out of way than preferred
Great home feeling. Only down side is if one want to explore the rest of the Island, need quite a bit of driving. Quiet, clean and goof view of Mauna Kea on a clear day. Thank you to the host for allowing to share your home! MAHALO!

Well appointed, clean and quiet place to call home away from home
Very well stocked and appointed two bedroom apartment. Quiet neighborhood up on the Pu'u, except for the occasional practice session by an amateur rock band just to South. (They're not that bad, and they cut off by 11pm or so.)

Everything You Need for a Great Stay!
The place is super clean and well stocked with all the kitchen gadgets, snorkeling gear, beach stuff (including chairs), and even alarm clocks with iphone chargers in the bedrooms. I could definitely seeing it being a great place if you have little kids - the second bedroom could accommodate children (or adults) nicely. The location is great at the top of Pu'u Nani Street. It is really close to town, beaches, etc. The hosts that live upstairs are wonderfully attentive and quick to reply if you have any questions or need anything. One dark and rainy evening in Waimea, I got in my rental car to drive back to Honu Hale and I had a flat tire! I really wasn't too sure what to do: I called Bill and Kathy and they came and picked me up. They saved me and I really appreciated that. It was just me staying there so it was nice to have people around.

Cosy and peaceful Honu Hale in Waimea
Me, my wife, son and daughter stayed at Honu Hale eleven days in January 2016. We had New Year vacation with our children in a cozy house furnished with new kitchen, two sofas, one king and two double beds in a very tasteful Hawaiian warm style. Welcome tasty gift and fresh cold water was pleasant surprise when we first arrived to hale. Although the house is placed near mountains it is very close to Waimea village, which is very convenient since you are in proximity to local markets, restaurants and shops. The nearest beaches are Hapuna beach, Mauna Kea and Waikoloa beach are very famous. Each beach had public access with comfortable parking lot and beach facilities. The house yard closet had everything to enjoy your visit to the beach, snorkeling sets, boogie boards and towels. Also there were golf clubs as well. The weather was wonderful so we could go to the beach and enjoy hot sun in the day time and enjoy the evening mountain breezes and cooler temperatures . Hosting family Bill and Kathy, Robyn's parents, were very kind and responsive to any requests we had. We stayed at ground floor while our hosts were on the first floor. Honu Hale was equipped with everything you need to have wonderful time during your holydays. We even had a dehumidifier to reduce excessive humidity that was in the evening and nights. Kitchen had all new utensils for cooking and all bath toiletries were in ample so we did not need to buy any. Outside there was a new BBQ oven just on the opposite porch. In the dining room there were useful brochures and booklets kindly arranged in case you would like to visit local places or order food from local restaurants. Honu Hale is an ideal setting for peace and tranquility with all the comforts and amenities of home with Hawaiian sea turtles throughout the home that bring you luck and safety. If one does not mind chilly nights we would highly recommend to stay at and enjoy Honu Hale!

Good solid place to stay for Kohala
It was a pretty good value for us. We had 5 there. House is pretty well stocked with things you may need. It was chill and really not a bad spot for what we were doing (spending most of our time at Hapuna or North Kohala). The only circumstances that could have made it better would have been less noise (the house is not well insulated and people live upstairs (noise goes both ways obviously). It was also very humid and it was hard to keep the humidity at bay for us (that may be an issue no matter where you are on the island though).
