excellent accommodation

This is a lovely cottage - in the main street of Tanunda, only a few hundred metres from the Tanunda Hotel. I stayed there for two nights with a friend and the hosts, Mark and Tanya, provided lots of extra 'goodies' to make the stay more enjoyable. Lots of historical memorabilia and superbly outfitted and decorated. A real 'step back in time'. We rated it 10/10.

Had a great stay. Cottage was great for our needs and located close to town centre. Very welcoming.
Only downside was limited TV channels (no sport) in the evenings and no WiFi.

This was a comfortable and well-located accommodation.
In the main street of Tanunda it was easy get to cafes and restaurants and good shopping - especially loved the Iron Cottage.
The owners set us up with very welcoming complimentary goodies, biscuits, chocolate, wine, cereals and bread. Very thoughtful.
Everything you needed was on site. Sleep was comfortable.

A historic well set up cottage with lots of memorabilia.
Short walk to anywhere in Tanunda including the fabulous FermentAsian.
A great base to explore all the Barossa has to offer.
Be sure to go into APEX bakery another living historic site. Ask nicely and the team will let you in to see the original oven form 1924!! And the bread is amazing!!

We enjoyed our stay in this cute cottage in the heart of Tanunda and really appreciated all of the generous touches in the house. My only complaint is that a couple of things were a little unclear on the description: while it does have air conditioning, it’s only in the living area and the rest of the house was stifling hot on a 40c day. Also, the living area can only be accessed from inside via one of the bedrooms. I understand that an old cottage can pose challenges but I do think this should have been made clear on the description

Having a connection to the wine business back home in Canada, we were quite interested In experiencing what Australia has to offer. Johann's Cottage turned out to be ideally located to explore the Barossa and neighbouring wine regions from. The unit has an odd layout of interconnected rooms, but that gives it a certain charm. The decor is quite eclectic and there are lots of books including some on local history and on Australian wine. And the hosts made sure it was prestocked with necessities and treats. The only issue we had was that the kitchen space was small for someone who likes to cook.

Very generous supplies. clean house. Shower facilities rather difficult for us as we are in our 80s. Accommodation otherwise excellent. Appreciated being able to ring owners when we had a problem.

The bed was very comfortable and we had everything we needed. Lovely books and magazines to browse.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The property was carefully decorated to evoke its history and it is very convenient to Tanunda town. Kitchen and bathroom are well-equipped and modern (no dishwasher for obvious reasons - there's no room). The rooms are small by modern standards, again reflecting its 19th-century origins. Someone with mobility limitations might find it a little inconvenient. But that is what comes with a charming historical property. Highly recommended for adults seeking a quiet retreat.

Beautiful cozy residence, clean and tidy. Wife loved the basket of goodies, bubbly and greeting message. Will definitely book again. My only other comment would be, they may need to look at new mattresses.
Cheers Geoff & Mel.

A quaint cottage evoking a bygone era, rich in the history of the amazing Barossa Valley. Clean and very well supplied with a lovely welcome basket. Recommend to all as a centrally located place to stay for enjoying the beauty of the countryside and show stopping wine-tasting.

Johann's Cottage is a delightful historic cottage which has been sensitively and stylishly decorated and updated to provide lovely accommodation in the central main street of Tanunda. It's easy to find, easy to live in and easy to use as a comfortable base for exploring the Barossa. The cottage displays many items and artefacts that reflect its history and add to the interest of a stay while the generous provisioning and signs of a warm welcome really make guests feel they made the right choice! Its location means Tanunda is super-easy to explore on foot and excellent restaurants like fermentAsian and 1918 are just a stroll away. Highly recommended.

Grand old cottage
It was a beautiful stay. The welcome, the snacks and food provided were very much appreciated.
The cottage was a delight, its character and styling we loved.
While on the main road in Tanunda, it seems people sleep at night and don't use their cars too much. Nights were quiet on the roads and therefore meant a good nights sleep.
Definitely recommend to other visitors to Barossa.

Fantastic location
This was an exceptional,
character filled, property to stay at. The location was perfect. We were able to walk easily everywhere.
Goodies left for breakfast were outstanding. Easily enough for the 4 night stay.
My only criticism was the mattresses.

Lovely Cottage, great location
Loved the cottage from the start, so much was provided both in the basket and the frig.. and there was plenty of toilet paper !! Was easy to imagine what early German homes were like. It is a short walk to a fantastic breakfast at Nosh, and a yummy dinner at Kampung Kitchen. The bathtub walls may be a little high for those with sore knees. Was a little noisy being on the main road, but you get used to that quickly. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting a convenient getaway to Tanunda and the Barossa.

Love the Barossa
Very impressed with the property, only room which needs upgrading is the bathroom and then it would be a 5 star. Noisy but there's nothing could be done about that at all I would think. Owners attended to a malfunction in the toilet immediately. Provisions for a continental breakfast were excellent as were the welcome bubbles, cheese & bikkies. Lots of attention to detail and we loved that. MONICA & ROB :)))

A little bit of history
What a lovely period cottage decorated with books, pictures and decorations telling some of the story of German settlement in the Barossa. Well located being on the main street close to shops, and close to the bike track that heads to Jacobs Creek Winery. :)
