About this house rental
Nestled in Shenandoah Valley, this charming house for $197 per night is a great choice for your next break. This 2010 construction A-Frame is ideal for a couple or small family who want to enjoy Old Rag Mountain, Shenandoah National Park, Ducard Vineyard, White Oak Canyon Falls, locally famous Little Country Store BBQ, Graves Mountain Lodge, Virginia farm country and other local attractions or have otherwise need to visit this area. A newer addition to the property is the corner yard patio that includes a hot tub and fire pit with breathtaking farmland and mountain views of Old Rag Mountain. We are adding a pergola to the patio. We re-did the upstairs half bath to include a shower with natural rock and subway tile. The view of Old Rag from the front porch rivals any view east of West Texas, guaranteed. Occasionally, sightings of a bald eagle and other wildlife are possible. The upstairs is one open area with a full size sleep sofa (for 2) and a King that can be separated into 2 twins. 2 more sleep sofas are downstairs. One sleeps two, and the other sleeps one. Most of our guests are a couple or small family, but we have had groups of 6 max who have to be a bit creative on how they set up. *We are trying our best to space out Guest bookings by at least 24hr apart for cleaning and disinfecting purposes. A maid will be cleaning within that 24hr time period. We disinfect surfaces and high touch areas using Lysol or ammonium chloride products. The white laundry bed linens and towels are disinfected with bleach and detergent. Please plan to put your pets in a pet carrier. Old Rag Mountain is not a pet friendly hike due to the rock scramble towards the peak, but White Oak Canyon to the first waterfall is. Plan to walk your animals on a leash for their safety. *Please check online with the park beforehand for recommendations. We have high speed WIFI, DishNetwork satellite TV, propane furnace, central air, well stocked kitchen namely pots, pans, dishes etc. Plan well with your food supplies as the nearest major supermarket is 13 miles away. Mad Pepper Cafe, Pig N’Steak, Off the Grid, Rappahannock Pizza Kitchen and *Bavarian Chef are good local restaurants. Michies Tavern near Monticello is a favorite restaurant. *The Little Country Store in Etlan is across the street with basic foods, best BBQ, special seafood events and our favorite local Yowell Farm burgers + local frozen beef. We have a gas BBQ grill. You can set your cellphone up to make calls over our WiFi by going to “settings” and please note that there is *no cell service in the general area.* The property is on a 1.2 acre lot attached to the small village of Etlan. The eastern foot of Old Rag is just over a mile across the meadow. Ducard, Blue Quartz and Sharp Rock vineyards are 3 miles away, Graves Lodge 5 miles, White Oak Falls trail is 8 miles and Luray Caverns is 35 minutes. We first listed in Feb 2016, and we have been pleasantly encouraged to have very steady bookings with increasing popularity. *Please ignore the crass 'pay now' messages that appear from VRBO until you are ready to book. We welcome you to the quaint village of Etlan. The locals call it “God’s country.” Etlan, VA in Madison County is home of Old Rag Mountain, voted as one of the top 25 hikes in the world!

Lovely secluded a-frame with wonderful views of Old Rag Mountain. The inside was comfortable and well apportioned with all the necessary kitchen needs. Ample towels, bed was comfortable. The outside pavilion and hot tub were a great bonus and the weather was perfect to take full advantage.

The property is amazing and well kept but the views is what we came for and it did not disappoint. There are plenty of things to do in the area and many suggestions in the info binder but we spent our entire trip enjoying the property and soaking up the views.

Purchased a weekend at this A-frame to give my parents a getaway from their daily lives. They thoroughly enjoyed the property and definitely want to return. The cabin is just as pictured and close to many things! Even just hanging out at the property is fun!

From the breathtaking scenery to the incredible house, we absolutely loved our stay here and will absolutely visit again. The hot tub and the fire pit on the cooler nights was a nice treat.

The A Frame was amazing. What you see in pictures is what you get. Easy check in. House was clean!!! We loved the hot tub after hiking during the day. Cows were a bonus to look at!!! The location was great. Very quiet. Short drive to Whiteoak to hike which was wonderful. Easy to go to Skyland drive from here. The little corner store made delicious sandwiches. We enjoyed grilling and eating outside for dinner. Would definitely return!

The property was described perfectly. A well planned out cabin looking at the mountains.
The wife and I decided to get away for our anniversary and bring the dog in tow. Etlan is near to a lot of nearby wineries and breweries which we both enjoy visiting. Also you are close to several historic areas like James Madison’s Montpelier.
The little shop in Etlan has most of the essentials and the staff was very friendly. Nearby in Madison is great Food Lion, and several restaurants to try out. Highly recommend the pulled pork at Pig and Steak BBQ.
Heading north to Sperryville is the Black Twig for a easy lunch, and around the corner is Copper Fox Distillery. The tour at Copper Fox was great and the cocktails after made the day perfect. The antique shop at Copper Fox has a huge selection of items, but can be difficult to move around in building at times.
Every night coming home to the sunset behind Old Rag was beautiful! Site was easy for us to get our dog out for a simple walk and he loved looking at the cows in the neighboring field.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at the AFrame in Etlan! The house was very clean & had a well stocked kitchen so that we could cook dinner each night! We hiked Shenandoah during the day and soaked in the Hot Tub every night! We also had a fire in the fire pit. The views of Old Rag are AMAZING & the peace and tranquility of the place are second to none. Highly recommend!

The a-frame was such a great spot - situated between Sperryville & Madison in Central VA with a great view of Old Rag. Plenty of outdoor seating for whatever activity you want to enjoy. Good sized kitchen for cooking and food prep. Comfy bedroom, with a big, soft bed.
Loved the view for morning coffee or afternoon cocktails. The hot tub was perfect after a day exploring and enjoyed the evening visitors (cows!).

We had stayed there a few years ago so making a return trip was easy. The proximity to hiking trails in the national park and wineries within a few miles is just a bonus.

The A-frame was lovely and not far from hikes with our dog. The DuCard vineyard was really close and we enjoyed our wine flights there after our hike. Then the outdoor hot tub was super to soothe our aching muscles. The cows next door came to say hello each day and that was fun. Loved the small market within steps for sandwiches and basics. No issues with internet. Would love to have some more hooks on the walls upstairs for clothes and such and a little more room for our packed clothes but overall a five star accommodation. Thank you, Captain Al! You were very good to us, came by to say hello and then left us in privacy.

The listing does not do the outdoor patio justice! It’s enormous with high quality outdoor furniture. We spent more time out there than in the house. Would absolutely stay there again. Great hiking trail for kids and pets just a few miles away. Beautiful drive to Luray Caverns. Would recommend this place!

We loved our stay at the A-Frame. House was gorgeous and very well maintained. You had everything you could ever ask for and more amenities wise. The view was amazing and watching the sunrises and sunsets from the patio area and hot tub was amazing. Can’t beat the view. We’ll definitely be coming back!

My wife and I agreed that this was one of the best rental properties we have ever stayed in! It felt so private, the view was spectacular, the kitchen was incredibly functional, and the owners clearly put a lot of effort into ensuring a comfortable stay. We hiked in the nearby Shenandoah National Park, and enjoyed daily soaks in the hot tub. The check-in and check-out processes were so easy and flexible, and communication from the owner was excellent! We certainly hope to return in the future!

We had such a nice time at the A Frame. It was just as described (even better in my opinion). Easy to communicate with owner, who was very accomodating and gracious. It was ozy, comfortable, and relaxing. It was just what we needed for a quick getaway to unwind and regroup. Wish I could go back already!
