This is a great house for our extended family. This is our second time at the house & it didn’t disappoint. The features we like the best are. Plenty of bedrooms, five full bathrooms three adjoining, wonderful front & backyard & a large well equipped kitchen. Already thinking about next summer.

The property was everything and more as it was described. Plenty of room for the whole family. Lots of space indoors and out. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets! Lots of play area for both children and adults. Great kite flying, too. Tom, the owner, was very accommodating and a pleasant to work with. I highly recommend this property!

The house was spacious and well appointed. We had 6 adults and 4 kids under 8. They loved the yard. Front yard perfect for kite flying. Everyone appreciated the space - we could all be together or get away for some quiet time. The kitchen table fit all of us - great family meals.

We had a perfect two weeks at this beautiful house. The size allowed our multigenerational family to have plenty of bedrooms, each couple had their own bathroom. The large kitchen was very well equipped, perfect for cooking large meals. The front deck was great for watching the sunset or having your morning coffee. The back deck had a great table for sharing meals. The swingset and hammock were a bonus. Everyone had a great time and looks forward to coming back next summer.

Our Island Adventure memories
Our entire experience was memorable!
Not knowing exactly what to expect, upon arrival it was perfect. The home has a wonderful front yard with a beautiful view of rolling hills, stone walls and Fresh Pond.
The front yard is perfect for a morning cup of coffee or a glass of wine at sunset. The children had a huge yard where they could play and we could either join in or watch from the Adirondack chairs.
The kitchen is very large and fit many of us as we all pitched in to prepare meals. The large table is so convenient right next to the kitchen area. Since we cooked quite a bit, I have to say it was so well equipped we just had to look for what we needed and it was found.
The back yard has a large table for late afternoon meals out of the sun, outdoor shower, grill and even a swing set!
Sleeping and bathroom needs worked out fine for our large group.
There is even a piano and our budding 15 year musician kept us entertained!
As you can see, the home was perfect for our family and we thank Mr Mitchell for being so accommodating and helpful!

Sunset views and Adirondack chairs
Room for everyone in our group! Sprawling, family house with a rolling front lawn, a much used hammock, and a perfect, private, kid friendly backyard. My crew had an excellent time playing cards in the evening at the farmhouse table, and having coffee alfresco while my granddaughter monkeyed around on the swing set. This property is close to conservation trails and minutes from the town beach. Recommended! Thanks Tom!

Family Friendly Retreat
We are frequent VRBO renters and this rental was a wonderful experience. The location was excellent- central and private. The view to the West over Fresh Pond to the sunset was a highlight of each day. The kitchen was very well appointed and worked well for more than one cook at a time. The layout of the house was particularly great for our multi generational family group as was the huge front lawn and the 2 generous decks. We would be happy to book again in the future.

Perfect Rental
We rent houses all the time, and I must say this is the cleanest, most well organized house we have EVER rented! It was SO nice to not have to spend the first day of vacation cleaning out drawers and organizing kitchen cabinets : ) Tom is a doll, the house is lovely and the location is fantastic...highly recommend!

Memories and More
This beautiful Block Island home was absolutely perfect for our group, which consisted of 3 generations of people. The bedroom layout afforded small families and other adults ample space and privacy. Both inside and out, our family was able to enjoy themselves while taking in beautiful views from every window and vantage point outside. The house had many thoughtful touches and was beautifully decorated. Family sing-alongs around the piano were so much fun as were dinners around the immense farm table. There was no shortage of Adirondack chairs from which to take in beautiful sunsets every evening. We've stayed in many houses on Block Island and this by far was the best!

Excellent stay
We stayed at the house for a week in July. We ate most of our meals at the house and found cooking to be very easy. The view is phenomenal and being able to walk to the lake was a huge plus. We were able to bike from our house to everywhere on the island. Be warned the hill by the airport is a killer! All in all an excellent stay and we would certainly come back again.

Great Family Stay
Beautiful, clean, welcoming home with magnificent views of Fresh Pond, skies, & sunsets. Extremely well-equipped kitchen which was great for us as our extended family loves to cook. Cozy sitting areas within the home & spacious outdoor seating in front & back of the house. We had a wonderful time!

Feels like home, not an overused rental!!
We loved this house! It was perfect for our group of 11 (6 adults, 5 kids ranging 3 - 12 years). It was warm and inviting while also allowing for privacy when needed - lots of spots to take a nap!. It was very comfortable and truly felt like a home. Super clean and well appointed.
The location was perfect for us as we wanted a quiet place with easy access to town. We did have a car but we biked to town and the various beaches often. My children often took off on their bikes to explore together - something that wouldn’t normally happen at home! My 9 year old quickly found the path to the pond and was excited to show us all. It was a great spot to take a quick dip to cool off without packing up for the beach.
Yes, the WiFi is slow but it didn’t bother us. We were on an island - we expected it. We had hotspots to use if we needed them but it generally just helped to keep us off the devices.
The house had everything we needed (wine fridge!!). The kitchen is nicer than mine at home! We couldn’t seem to find the microwave but we didn’t much need it so I didn’t even bother to call Tom and ask about it. All other communication with Tom was very easy. He was very quick to respond to questions both before and after our trip. My daughter left a book at the house and he txted quickly to let us know so we could go back and get it.
We can’t say enough about how beautiful Block Island is. If you’re looking to spend time here, then you probably already know. Our favorite spots were Mansion Beach for swimming (we took one car here to carry chairs and coolers but half of our party biked it and got there in the same amount of time); Dory’s Cove for sunsets (my personal favorite) and watching the seals by the North Lighthouse. Had a nice yoga class at Elevation Studio (by the 1661 Farm). Great owner, great location. Running trails for those so inclined. Respect and caution towards those on bikes, especially the little ones. And a great house to avoid the frenetic pace of town and just chill out and do nothing, which we happily took advantage of. We played a lot of corn hole on the front lawn.
We didn’t eat out much as we had a great house to cook in and little ones in our group. But we did have lunch at Poor People’s Pub. It was great for us as they run a peanut free kitchen and we have a severe allergy in our group.
Overall, just a wonderful time here at this lovely home on this beautiful island. Highly recommend and can’t wait to return!

Great layout and very well equipped!
We had a great week with our family of 10 adults and two babies. Amazing deck out front - beautiful stargazing at night. Cooked big family meals and ate all together at the nice big kitchen table. Highly recommend!

Family Vacation 2015
Our family had a fantastic time this year at this house on Block Island. The house itself is absolutely lovely, spacious and in great condition, with virtually every amenity we could have hoped for. Plenty of room in kitchen, dining and living area for everyone to cook together or just hang out, large enough for our family gatherings (8 adults, 2 young adults, 2 children under 5).
The house is set up so the bedrooms and bathrooms have privacy. The house sits on a hill and the Island breezes keep it comfortable inside and out. All of us enjoyed sitting on the large expansive decks both front and back with plenty of adirondack chairs for sitting and family gatherings. If you just wanted to spend the day at the house, the huge front yard overlooks Fresh Pond which is swimmable and ideal for the little ones as well as the adults. The shaded back yard has plenty of room for outdoor cooking and activities. The location was just right not to far from the beaches and town. If you bring a vehicle which I would recommend you will need to book your car reservation for the ferry in advance.
Tom and Kathleen were available whenever we had questions, and very accommodating. We highly would recommend this property to everyone and plan on returning to this wonderful family friendly home again.

Lovely home, beautiful place
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Block Island for the first time, and we (5 couples) stayed at Island Adventure. The house was lovely, beautiful views from every angle. We cooked every night in the well stocked kitchen, and enjoyed both the front porch and back for reading, happy hours and relaxing. We had a fabulous view of the lunar eclipse, sitting on the front porch, tucked under blankets in the great Adirondack chairs. The house was cozy and comfortable, and was close to town and some of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. Unfortunately, the weather forced us to cut short our stay by two days. The owner was great with keeping us informed about the ferry schedule. We made it off safe and sound and Tom called to make sure all went well. We had no trouble with the internet, or any thing else for that matter. I would suggest the owners put a microwave in the otherwise well appointed kitchen, and perhaps a second TV in the den.
Loved the house, loved the island.

Quiet? Yes!
I don’t believe that the owner has misrepresented this property, but I do feel that one reviewer has conveyed an inaccurate impression.
First of all, I disagree that this house should be a recommended location for tourists without cars. On the contrary, some form of transportation to and from this spot is essential if you wish to enjoy the beaches, sights, and restaurants that dot the island. On a lark one day, a few of us decided to walk into town. When we finally arrived at the ferry landing, we all agreed that there was no way we were walking back home. Enough was enough! (And, I can assure you, we are all avid walkers.) Biking wouldn’t have been a much better option. The island is very hilly and the narrow roads are crowded with cars most of the day. There is no way someone burdened with beach gear would want to walk or bike to the beach from there. Calling a cab would seem to me a must for evenings out.
Which brings me to disagreement number two: Fresh Pond offers a very pretty view and it may be “delightfully swimable” but it is not readily accessible. No trespassing signs and heavy vegetation surround it. The only access we could find was a good distance from the house down a heavily wooded path. With deer tick warning signs posted everywhere on Block Island, one is hesitant to lug his gear down too many heavily wooded paths!
The reviewer does acknowledge that internet access can be sketchy on an island and I understand that. This is not an issue that affects my life. It did however cause serious problems for those of our party who hold jobs that require them to be accessible to their work places at all times. In truth, the internet wasn’t sketchy, it was nonexistent.
I agree that the house is laid out well for a large extended family --- though a few more bedroom doors would have been welcome. And, the kitchen is large and well appointed --- though not all of the amenities functioned. (A working ice maker or multiple bags of ice would have been nice --- constantly filling little ice trays and maneuvering them into the bottom of a freezer unit is very tricky.)
On the plus side, the quiet location far from the bustle of town makes for a restful getaway.

Missed the Mark
Block Island is a beautiful spot and I've enjoyed my many trips there. Unfortunately, I can not recommend "Island Adventure" to fellow renters. The house was large, but outdated. We had numerous issues with it and the owner was less than pleasant when confronted with them. He had appliances that did not work properly, plumbing issues that caused flooding, electrical issues that caused fire alarms to go off and a huge bug problem. He accused my family of creating the problems. His WiFi did not work the entire week and I allocated a portion of one day to working with a service provide to fix it, as he couldn't handle it. My brother in law, who was working on an important medical grant, had to go to another hotel to use their wifi. About a week after coming home, I got a strange letter from the owner with around $175 of my security deposit withheld stating that the towels were "extra greasy" and required cleaning as well as a random list of kitchenware that went missing. He also complained about the fact that my 12 year old set up a tent on his lawn, which was full of brown grass and weeds. The numerous issues with the house coupled with the petty nature of the owner puts me in a position where I can not recommend this house to others. I again note that Block a Island is a great place and wish I could recommend this house to others. It is just past its prime and my sense is the owner is trying to wring whatever he can out of whomever rents it.

relaxing adventure
we needed a place large enough for our extended family (2 grandparents, 4 parents, 3 young adults, 3 teens, a 9 yr. old, and a newborn!) and had heard that block island was a nice place to visit. the house is spacious and quaint, was handed over very clean and in great condition, with virtually every amenity we could have hoped for, even a frisbee to throw around on the giant front lawn over looking Fresh Pond, which is delightfully swimmable. the location was far enough from the waterfront/center of town to not feel touristy, but everywhere on the island was comfortably accessible by bike or even on foot for youhardy hikers out there. we all enjoyed hanging out in the large and well-appointed kitchen and back deck, grilling and cooking and relaxing. even when it warmed up outside the cool Atlantic breezes kept the house comfortable. block island's beaches are world-class, and besides the ones close to the ferry, quiet and uncrowded. the vibe on the island is very chill, and the great housing choice, varied activities, and general atmosphere made for a really nice vacation. the mitchell's were sweet and helpful and dealt promptly with one or two minor issues which cropped up (block island internet access is a bit sketchy, for those of you who are lost without 24/7 high-speed connectivity). just to illustrate, we forgot something in the house, and when tom noticed it, he called, jumped in his car, and drove down to the dock to hand it back to us as we were loading onto the ferry. above and beyond the call of duty, and very appreciated. i would definitely recommend this property to friends looking for a quiet and relaxing getaway
