About this house rental
****This property can only be accessed by boat or water taxi.****
The North Captiva Point House was built by Barnacle Phil and his wife Roberta Kinsey, in 1981. A true classic Florida beach house, it features great room with full kitchen, separate 'bunk house' and wide porches on all sides. Standing on a private peninsula at the entrance to Safety Harbor, every direction offers a spectacular view of the harbor, Pine Island Sound, Captiva Pass and beyond. Views to the east offer the rising sun or moon in breathtaking vistas. White sandy beaches skirt the buttonwoood and sea grape grove that surrounds the house. A private, protected deep water dock provides boats a safe berth. Outstanding fishing, birding and swimming are a given. In the still of the night, dolphin can be heard 'breathing' as they round the point in search of mullet, snapper and other food.
There simply is nothing else like it.
This property can only be accessed by boat or water taxi. The property does not come with a golf cart.

Thank you for sharing your property with us! We had magnificent views—- including a full double rainbow 😍 the space was comfortable and clean and perfect for a long weekend getaway. We were able to easily access our boat to spend time on Cayo costa, lunch on cabbage key and a dip in the pool at the N. Captiva club. We didn’t need to use the bunk house, but would be perfect if we brought the kids! Thank you!!

Our stay with family here was wonderful. The home is beautifully decorated and extremely well equipped. The 360 degree water views were amazing, the beach was huge and private. Our boys loved the “separate” bunk/kids house and my husband greatly appreciated the deep water dock for the boat. We will definitely be back.

Despite the devastation from the hurricane the house was in order. Fully stocked. Clean. Secluded with dolphins and manatees right out the window. Can’t wait to return!

This is our absolute favorite trip yearly! From before renovations to now. You get NO better views than this house. Ashton is a absolute dream to work with and you feel like you’ve got your own tiny piece of home while staying. Fishing is great, house is amazing. Nothing more you can ask for!!

Great Location
The property has wonderful views from the wrap around deck and having a dock for our boat was definitely a plus. I would say that not having an actual bedroom and somewhere to hang your clothes was a little inconvenient. Just know that this property does not offer a golf cart and the rentals were too pricey. I didn't notice that when I booked it. Other than that we had a good time.

Perfect!
The Point House exceeded our expectations in all ways. It was spotless, great kitchen, fabulous beds and pillows. But the deck was the best! To be surrounded by water was a dream, watching the boats go by was fun… but the best part was seeing and hearing the dolphins!!!
I cannot wait to get back!

Beautiful and relaxing. The lock box to get the key was impossible to open. Tons of boat traffic
Fun nice, the remodel is great. You should inform people that it is so close to the harbor boat traffic. Some of the boats blast very loud music and they pass 20 feet from the house.

Paradise found!
OMG, this place is a dream come true. Every glance at every angle offers a panoramic view of dolphins and manatees frolicking in their natural habitat. It’s like living in a Natural Geographic documentary in a wonderfully appointed beach cottage. We booked our next vacation at this gem before we even left our first trip…. I almost don’t want to brag any more about this place so it doesn’t sell out…. Enjoy the island and don’t forget to reserve a golf cart with Sun and Fun!

Sunsets , sunrises and all the boats coming and going into the harbor! Best food at Barnicle's Mainstay.

Solitude
If you're looking for panoramic views, and an absolutely fabulous fishing scenario...book it! 4 grown men, 150+ lbs of food, drink, and fishing gear made for one spectacular week. Grouper/Snook/Sheepshead were abound and they local wildlife enjoyed us, as much as we did them. If taking family or and friends, be sure it's a close knit bunch. One bathroom is challenging for more than 4 or 5, but it's a minor inconvenience. Great spot and the renovations were well received. Very likely to go again. Don't go to N Captiva looking for nightlife. Go for relaxation!!!

We had a great visit to North Captiva. The Point House was great. Excellent bird watching, manatee, and other wildlife. Spectacular water view. I would recommend the property for sure.

Would never stay anywhere else
I love the point house. The inside was recently all remodeled.. I had reserved this place before the remodel, even after reading some negative reviews, because I wasn’t interested in the inside of the house just the outside and where it was located. Some people talked about seeing a couple bugs, it’s southern Florida what does anyone expect? LOL. Which by the way I did not see any bugs during my time there.
Anyhow, this house is wonderful it has the old style Florida look on the outside which I personally love, in the inside is remodeled modern rustic barn style.
This house sits on the peninsula point on the island and is the only house with this location on the whole island. We had our own private dock, we did not bring a boat but the dock worked great for fishing off of, jumping off and swimming, and stargazing. Not to mention the manatees and dolphins that swim around.
Watching the sunrise when you are standing on the point is phenomenal.
When you wake up and in the evening , you have a surround view of the sea. Beautiful.
Ashton was easy to communicate with responded quickly and was a wonderful host.
The barnacles bartenders were the best!!
I would hope that the structure of the house stays the same and is never replaced.
The history of the house is also intriguing, nostalgic, romantic.
The negatives? We did ask a couple people that decided to Dock boat on the beach on the private property that surrounds us. They were walking around on the property and told them to go and they did..
The historic Fishhouse that sits alone in the water made a beautiful backdrop, you can sit on the porch and watch the boats that come around to fish underneath it and see what they are catching. One of the people in my group said that whoever was in the Fishhouse let their dogs poop on our property. Which I did personally not see but if I would’ve been walking in the morning and stepped in it, I would’ve come unglued. So that was totally ignorant.
My only suggestion would be for the house to provide a golf cart like the others. Because if you do want one to travel with it is an additional expense to rent one.
I would never rent anywhere else on this island but the Pointhouse.

Rustic or Rundown? Definitely Rundown
We arrived at check in time to find a property that was not ready yet. No one was around, but there was plenty of trash and towels. When I tried to contact the property manager listed on the confirmation email she informed me that she had not managed the listing for 8 months or more. She gave me the current managers phone number. Ashton was super nice and explained that the cleaning lady was held up. When the cleaning lady showed up she was very angry and frankly rude. She said the other guests had trashed the place. Not really sure how this was my fault, but oh well. We were prepared for rustic, but not rundown. Duct taped carpet, a thermostat you cannot control, sulfur smelling water and a stove that has no markings or temperature control are just a few of the highlights. The bugs were amazing too- don't turn the light on between the beds or a swarm comes out! Let's finish with the bad- Sandy made herself known throughout our visit. Including stopping by to ask when we would be leaving on our final day. We left an hour before check in and had the magnificent view of Sandy with a cigarette dangling out of her mouth stripping the beds as we pulled away. She has quite a reputation on the island! The trash she complained of the previous renters throwing in the bushes never did get picked up- well, I picked some of it up because I didn't want to look at it all week.
The good part- amazing location! We watched Dolphins and Manatees play under the dock, kayaked to the sandbar and watched boats go by, caught a fish off the dock, saw sea stars and urchins and collected shells.
Frankly, I wouldn't recommend renting this place. It is not like it is a private beach so you can see all the wildlife you want and not stay in a hovel. Don't believe the "rustic fishcamp" line!

Amazing location
The house is dated but the location and views were all worth it. The communication with Ashton was easy and she was very responsive.
Was told they are remodeling the house. I can’t wait to come back and stay once updated and remodeled .

Perfect Paradise on Point !!
On point is just the beginning of this absolute perfect getaway !! Away from it all on the very tip of the island made the is property unique! Dolphins, manatees, birds greeted us every morning. Sipping our coffees you literally hear the dolphins jumping out of the water playing with their young. Unreal !! The breeze was also a huge plus at this property ...being on the tip with nothing but open waters all around you the breeze kept the bugs away!! Questions quickly answered by owner. Although the place is older and there’s no Wi-Fi, it was exactly what we wanted ...unplug from the world and enjoy the scenery. Beds were comfy which is always the most important to me and my family. Won’t hesitate to book this house again.

Rustic Haven
Place to unwind, disconnect from daily hassles, picture perfect views of sunset, sunrises and marine life. See manatees, dolphins, birds every day. Private beaches, boating dock, abundance of sea shells. Situated at end of island providing star gazing and peaceful getaway.

Anniversary getaway
We enjoyed the wrap around deck with beautiful views. The house was stocked with everything we needed for cooking. The property owner was great and very responsive and was able to answer all our questions during our stay. The price was fair compared to other properties on the island and seemed to be taken into consideration considering the property itself. If you want to get in the water, you just have to take a short ride to another beach location due to all the boats going by. Overall we enjoyed the stay.

Absolutely Amazing
After having spent a month on North Captiva at several different rental houses, we decided to end our vacation with a final week at the Point House and we couldn’t have loved it more. The land is breathtaking and the house was perfect for us. The best part was the private dock next to the house. The property manager was also very quick to respond to any questions we had while on property. I highly reccomend the Point House!

A rustic glassed in box located on the tip of a small peninsula. Ospreys collected their nest material in front of the house, dolphins swan by the canal and hundreds of white pelicans flew by every morning. I don't need to mention stunning sunsets and sunrises all from you bed.I will be back soon before the new owners tear it down to make it modern .

Not for us
Should have listened to previous review by Chrissy C. We were totally disappointed with the rental. There is zero privacy. You are basically renting a rustic house on public land. All day long from sunrise to sunset, there were random people docking their boats all along the beach surrounding the property to fish. Some even used the dock when our boat was not there. Every day there were at least 20 boats set up, with loud (often inappropriate music) and lots of drinking. Several groups even set up tents/canopies so they can hang out all day drinking and sunbathing. Then there are the kayakers who came in groups to park their canoes along the beach of the property, hanging out, wandering all around and through the property taking selfies. This only left our small kids the dock area to swim and explore. We could not leave them unattended as there were so many random people around the property. We couldn’t even enjoy the view because of all the people so close to the house. We had to keep the curtains closed for most of the day to avoid busy eyes. We knew this house was old and rustic with many things barely working but we were willing to put up with it for the privacy and the view. But it seems the house can’t even offer that. I have never been so disappointed with a rental. The experience was so bad we left a whole day early.
The house itself is rustic with the entry door opening up next to the toilet in a tiny bathroom. A little awkward to say the least. We were covered in bites after sleeping in the bed for one night. I found tiny bugs in the sheets so I stripped all the linens and washed them before sleeping on them again. The bottom part of the house must be the storage unit for the cleaning service as they came often to get supplies. Roofers were also there to work on the roof one morning. Our AC went out one day and it was so hot when we can into the house. Thank goodness there were fans and that the unit fixed itself by morning.
We were all so happy to get home. It is a beautiful island and we will visit again but won’t be renting this house.

Excellent location
You can’t beat the views at this property. The house is clean and fit our family of four in the main house just fine. There is also a small guest house with two twin beds so you could easily sleep six. The house is a little dated but the location and views totally make up for it. We would definitely stay here again.

Great trip!
Amazing location, kids swam all around the point and found lots of starfish and sea urchins. Great spot! Definitely needs some simple improvements and upkeep, carpet is really worn and we kept stepping on the exposed tack strip near the kitchen. We will definitely be back though!

The location is beautiful. Rebecca is very responsive to our request/ questions. The house keeper was friendly. The house is a bit old but it was well priced and the location beats everything.

Breathtaking View
We had the best time at this property! It offers the most breath taking sunrise and sunset views, and the home was cozy! The property offered so much fun- we spent a lot of time on the beautiful shoreline, boat rides, and we rented a golf cart to cruise around the island. We loved getting homemade ice cream from Mangos! The boat dock was very well maintained and easy to use. We loved “Boat” watching as people came and went during the day thru the channel.
Thank you for sharing your home with us, we definitely will be back!!

Great location
Overall trip was great. Can’t beat the location. The house could use some updating for sure and a lot of things didn’t work, but for 300/night I guess it wasn’t that bad. One TV was missing, the DVD player didn’t work. The house is at the end of the point which makes your stay pretty private. However, everyone wants to check it out. The views from the deck are amazing. We saw manatees, dolphins, osprey, etc. and the fishing was great. Beautiful island, great time with family. Would do it again. Bring a bit if you can.

An oasis away from the hustle & bustle
You can’t beat the location! Stunning sunrise and sunset, great fishing, and panoramic views. We loved the little island, and easy access to the Gulf. Rebecca was kind, responsive, and made our stay very comfortable! Highly recommend.

Old-Florida Treasure
The Point House is a treasure! Amazing spot for birds and wildlife; we especially enjoyed the osprey, frigate birds and manatees. This cute little house is very comfortable and has everything one could possibly need for a fabulous get-away-from-it-all vacation. We boated every day in a rental from Monroe Canal Marina (very personable folks and highly recommended) - fished all over and saw lots of dolphin and tarpon. Beach-hopping was fun, Cabbage Key cheeseburgers did not disappoint, and the wrap-around deck at the house is a perfect perch for coffee and sunrise, or happy hour and sunset – always a breeze coming through. The old fish camp was built by ancestors of our friends that accompanied us, which is very special. Can’t wait to stay here again sometime!

So relaxing!!
We stayed in February, and the only real complaint I had was the weather/wind, as it was difficult for boating with the waves and a bit chilly, but the location of the house was absolutely stunning. This was just our speed of vacation - laid back, relaxed and surrounded by the beautiful ocean. Sunrises and sets were gorgeous. There were an astonishing number of beachcombers that made their way onto the “private” beach (Ignoring the signs I guess...) every morning, but it did not bother us too much. Our kids spent hours upon hours sorting through the crazy amounts of shells on the beach, rescuing stranded sea snails, finding starfish in the water (but leaving them be!) - and they loved having their own “house”. Slider to that side bedroom could use some work as it was very difficult for them to open/close. Overall the house was exactly what we wanted and expected and we will definitely be coming again! It is a great way to “unplug”!! Please don’t ever get WiFi :)
