The check-in process was excellent along with a video showing exactly how to get into the unit. When my wife and I open the door and stepped in, we could not believe our eyes and how beautiful this place was. Completely remodeled and had everything you needed to enjoy your stay at Folly. The owner was nothing but accommodating and answered any questions we had. Very friendly and informative of the area. I will go back for sure to stay at this rental.

My husband and I have stayed at the Chill Shack over the past few summers, and I can’t possibly say enough good things about the RatherShacks and Kat & Sam! The recent refresh of the Chill Shack decor is absolutely gorgeous. As always, the space was impeccably clean and spotless when I arrived with plenty of fluffy bath towels and comfy bedding/pillows in the bedroom. The check in process was a breeze and it’s so nice knowing that Kat & Sam are always nearby with a helpful hand should you have any questions or concerns. They are always extremely kind and very easy to get ahold of should you need anything. Between the lovely accommodations, wonderful hosts, and having the beach and the best that Folly has to offer just mere moments away, you can’t go wrong! Thank you for another perfect vacation!

Cozy Beach Cottage
The cottage has been renovated and was even nicer than we expected from the pictures. It's a block from the beach and 3 blocks from the center of town. We walked everywhere. So close to Bert's market where we picked up everything from steaks for the grill to a nice bottle of red wine to have with them. The ice cream is really good to. We loved the beach, not too crowded and the water was so warm! Sam and Katt were a pleasure to deal with. We will definitely be back!

This was a cozy place to chill out close to the beach. While it is small, it has all the ammenities I was looking for including a grill, a comfy coutch, excellent shower, and well stocked kitchen.

Property was very clean and especially appreciated the dedicated parking space so close to the beach. Slight discrepancy between online listing and actual configuration relative to breakfast bar in kitchen, but not a deal-breaker as a large screen TV had been added. Chill shack exceeded expectations - Beautiful cottage and newly renovated
The newly renovated Chill Shack was awesome and exceeded our expectations. The quality of the cottage was excellent. The owners Katt and Sam paid attention to every detail. From having everything you need inside to beach chairs and beach towels for outside. You can’t beat the location steps from the beach and a short walk to town. Clearly there was a lot thought that went into making sure our stay was excellent. It was our first trip to Folly Beach and we are glad we stayed here. We would stay again at this location “Chill Shack” or one of the other Rathershacks. Thank you for a nice stay.

We Love Folly Beach ❤️
This little place for two was perfect for a much needed getaway. It was very clean, beautifully decorated, bathroom towels, beach towels and kitchen towels provided. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils dinnerware and cookware. Everything we needed as we prepared most of our own meals due to my husband’s special diet. The grill was just like the one we have at home and we used it every day. The yard and landscaping was beautiful and well kept. You can tell the owners take pride in their rental. The beach access was just a short walk away. We took a short walk every evening to enjoy the local music and a cocktail. The owners were very kind and we definitely will come back again. Make sure you go up to the end of Ashley Avenue to Morris Island where the lighthouse is. We didn’t want to leave. Thank you Katt and Sam!

Great Couple Getaway!
The ChillShack was the perfect place for a relaxing weekend for my husband and I. A very quick walk to the beach, within a few blocks to several shops, restaurants and bars, and the owners were nearby if we needed anything, but we didn't. The shack was well decorated and well stocked with everything you need in the kitchen! Thank you Sam & Katt!

We stay on Folly almost annually and while this was nice I dont feel it was a true 5-star compared to others we’ve been at. This was in need of some updates.
The TV just didnt work for us - sometimes audio while not at other times.
The bed was a bit uncomfortable but several pillows were available so was tolerable
Driveway landscape may not belong to this owner but it was nearly impossible to see from our vehicle to back out. one of us would direct the other when moving our car

Location to beach, pier, and center street is great. Also a very short walk to Bert's grocery, the coolest store ever. Comfy bed and living area. Katt and Sam were super hosts, with great communication and even gave us 8 Budweisers!

Paradise by the Sea
First, I want to just state that the property owners (Sam and Katt) are awesome. They are the nicest and most pleasant people to rent from. They were always there when we had questions and don’t be surprised to run into them on beach! (We loved this part)
This was our first time staying in Folly Beach. My boyfriend and I are from the northeast (Philly region) and we were blown away at the scenery and just real island feel folly beach gives. On top of all of this the chill shack made the experience just 10 times better!
A block away from the beach, beautiful little yard, and a clean 1 bedroom unit is all we needed to have a vacation for the books. I give this place a 5 star rating simply because it is what every beach goers wants.
My favorite part about this trip was the atmosphere of the island and the mood the chill shack put you in. And of course Very nice people, Sam and Katt.
Overall great experience. And the many options they offer on their website, we can’t wait to stay in them in the future!!

Juuust Right
Perfect for a solo traveler. Location is fantastic. Every promised in listing was as described and photographed. Just a couple of hiccups: both ceiling fans were dirty, and noisy. Also, my cellphone broke halfway through trip. I tried to contact hosts through VRBO website for some logistical help but never heard back. I will definitely recommend this place and intend to come back as soon as possible!! What a great trip!

I apologize to the owners of this property for the delay in this review - I was busy packing to move into their apartment...:-)
All joking aside, this was probably the most wonderful rental I've ever had. And would be so for any other single person or couple. Small, but so well laid out and decorated that it never felt cramped.. I'm normally outside every moment I can be but I found myself very content to be curled up on the sofa with my coffee and a book in the morning or watching TV in the evening. High ceilings, open, light and bright, incredibly clean, furnished with all you need but not cluttered with excess. Less than a half mile from the center of town but in a quiet residential area, with a secluded yard at your doorstep. Turn left out of the driveway for a few steps, cross the block and then one quiet street and there's your beautiful beach access. Plant a chair and read. Go shelling. Enjoy the lovely warm surf -I was there mid-September and the water temp was 80. Mosey down towards the pier, select from several restaurants, and have any of a huge variety of local beers and something amazing like Chico Feo's incredible tacos.. Folly Beach doesn't have a boardwalk or an enormous amount of shops. It has just enough. And it's minutes away from that gem of the south, Charleston, S C.
The owners live just across the street, and Katherine and her husband are lovely people and are instantly responsive. I got to see another one of their several properties - it is even more beautiful and it's clear that there's a very high standard held to in their rentals.
I hated to leave. And I can't wait to go back.

Most Relaxing Stay
This was our first vacation in 2 years and our first time at Folly Beach. Our stay was everything we hoped for and more. The Chill Shack was perfect....it was clean, comfortable and lovely with all the comforts of home. The property was well kept and the location couldn't be better....a block from the beach and walking distance to everything in town. It was only a 20 minute drive into Charleston as well. We didn't want to leave. Thank you Katherine for having such a lovely place for us to relax and decompress for a few days.

Summer Folly Beach Visit
This was our second time staying in this property. We were so impressed the first time we came back. The place is perfect for two people. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need and not cheap stuff, things you can actually cook with. The bed is cozy, and the living space is just enough to kick back and relax in the AC when need be. There is a nice courtyard area outside to sit in as well. The walk to the beach is very short, pretty much one house over to get to the corner and then a block down to the access (less than 5 minutes). The beach area is not overly crowded and the owners provide beach chairs. Speaking of the owners, they are easily accessible without being overbearing and very personable. The check in process was super easy and Katherine kept in touch the day of arrival to be sure our arrival time was staying on track. We will be back to visit Folly Beach and the Rathershacks again someday!

Another Fabulous Vacation At The Rathershacks!
What more can I say?! Katt & Sam are phenomenal hosts and The Rathershacks are a dream. This is my second summer renting from them and am already planning my third! The ChillShack is beautifully appointed, impeccably clean, offers plenty of space for a couple, and is steps away from the beach & the center of town. The house was stocked with every kitchen item/utensil you might need, ample plush towels, beach chairs, and a lovely, lush backyard with comfy lawn chairs. Katt & Sam make check in/out a snap and are always happy to answer questions - they even popped over on the 4th of July when we had a little trouble getting the gas grill started - truly above & beyond! Thanks for everything and see you next year!

As I believe that it is better to see something once than hear about it thousand times, I will keep my review short and sweet and let the beauty of Folly speak for itself.I have been to many beaches in my life as an Air Force Brat, I have lived in Southern California, many coastal towns on the East Coast and have vacationed in the Caribbean and Hawaii.These are all places that most people see as amazing destinations.I can agree with that- but there was always something missing for me. I was sort of homesick for a place I had never been.Turns out, Folly is that place. Any beach town can have sun, sand, good food and a hotel with access to all of those things.But, as I found out with my first trip to Folly- you can have more than that. It is truly hard to find the words to express the sense of community, the natural beauty in the green space, the look on the faces of the surfers who get up early and live and breathe for the ocean, the kind words from strangers just trying to unwind and take it all in from the front seat of their golf carts.The amazing food steps away and sunsets that make you never want to leave.There is something about this place that calls to me, makes me believe in the magic of this little beach town and all of its amazing people.
Among those great people are the owners of the house we rented.Kat and Sam were not your typical rental owners. From the minute we inquired about their property, they were responsive and so kind.They were there to greet us upon arrival, helping to carry our luggage into the house and show us all the ins and outs of the property.They provided not only the things we needed inside the house, but even outside we had access to an outdoor shower, outdoor dining area, beach chairs, outdoor grill- it was amazing! They thought of every single detail and you can clearly see that they took their own travel experiences and poured their heart into this home and into the experience for each guest.Kat and Sam turned our trip into a vacation.It is true that there is no place like home, but only because Kat and Sam created something better than home.I am thankful for the trips I have been able to take in the past, but I am moved by my stay at Rather Shacks.I can tell you how great I think it is, but you have to experience it for yourself. Our overall experience was very relaxing and the property was well maintained and when a problem arise with the propane Katt and Sam where there to attend to the issue immediately. They are very attentive hosts and made sure our stay was Folly beach fun all the way. Everything you would need beside paper and personals were provided. Well worth the cost. Would stay again and bring family to stay in the other properties.

This place is great especially for the price. The location alone (less than a 5 minute walk from the beach) is worth the stay. Kat and Sam met us at check in and gave us a quick rundown of the town. We tried all of their suggestions and loved them all. I highly recommend staying with them and were already planning our next trip back.
