Our original AMI home is much easier to navigate than new-build 3-story homes on Anna Maria Island because our first floor is on the ground level and the second floor is one easy set of stairs. Other rebuilt homes on the island usually require climbing multiple flights of stairs up or taking small elevators.
If you rent just the Pool Side Retreat, then there are a few 'common' areas for the two floors including the pool, yard, fire-pit, toys and 3rd story 'Crow's Nest' deck. Contact us for a Reunion Retreat where you can rent both floors including the entire house for special occasions.
In less than 2 minutes, you will be spending your day on the beach at Sunset Park, or venture out a bit further and hang out fishing in one of the many great spots nearby. Sightings along the Gulf of Mexico beach and inter-coastal waterway include Manatees, Rays, Dolphins, many kinds of fish, a wide variety of birds, and other amazing creatures. Some people even get married at the Sunset Park beach area and stay in our home with family! Common sites along the beach areas include Sea Turtle nests and bird nesting sanctuaries during special times of the year.
If you're in the mood to tour around the rest of the island, catch the free trolley around the corner and it will take you to any of the beaches, restaurants, shops or grocery stores along Gulf Drive anywhere on Anna Maria Island. Take the trolley to the old historic Bridge Street area of Bradenton Beach to enjoy the Key West style restaurants and shops. If you enjoy painting or photography, the sunsets are among the best in the world.
A lovely sunrise can be enjoyed along the Coquina Baywalk. Bean Point and Coquina Beach are great beaches to visit along with Sunset Park next to our home.
Just across the Cortez bridge on the south side of the island, is the old school Florida fishing village of Cortez, where restaurants have excellent seafood and some have live music. Swordfish Grill is our favorite on the dock.
Our kids love taking the free trolley around the corner up to Anna Maria Pier and looking for fish in the water (especially in the morning to early afternoon when you can see well through the clear water), talking to the fisherman, and eating at the restaurant or getting ice cream at Two Scoops. The Blueberry Pie ice cream is my favorite... Trolley stops by the home every 20 minutes from about 6 am to 10 pm.
We have 3 favorites for breakfasts: 1) Rod & Reel Pier, 2) Ginny's & Jane E's, and 3) The Donut Experiment (fun for the kids but not completely filling).
Eco tours and on the Gulf and Intercoastal via boats, kayaks and jet skis are always nice. The Ringling Museum in Sarasota is great.
The Regina is a sugar barge that sunk just off our beach during a storm in 1940. It is in about 20 feet of water just 150 feet or so off the beach. It is marked with a buoy. The Regina is 10th Florida Shipwreck Underwater Archaeological Preserve.
There is a small reef of rocks about 150 feet northwest from the Sunset Park Beach directly west of our home. I like to swim out to it and then dive down 8-10 feet to see colorful fish like the striped Sheepshead, etc.
The Herb Dolan Park, an easy five block walk on 26th Street North and Avenue A, is an open park area with a terrific view of Sarasota Bay, Anna Maria Sound and Tampa Bay. The Herb Dolan Park features picnic areas, basketball court, playing field, swing set, play structure and a Kayak launch. If you're in the mood to tour around the rest of the island, catch the free trolley out the back door and it will take you to any of the beaches, restaurants, shops or grocery stores along Gulf Drive anywhere on Anna Maria Island. Take the trolley one stop down (or stroll along the beach the one mile) to the old historic Bridge Street area of Bradenton Beach to enjoy the Key West style restaurants and shops. After enjoying the beach or park, return home to use one of the two outdoor showers next to the beach toys or the pool to wash the beach sand off and jump in the pool waiting for you. Kick your feet in the water of the heated pool with a special sun shelf for toddlers or adults to sit on with Adirondack-style chairs. The pool, 5 feet deep at its deepest, includes two more sitting shelves on the that are around 18 inches deep. One of those extra sitting shelves on the far end has a soaker spout to massage sore backs. Enjoy the traditional landscaping of Florida with various palm trees of different sizes that increase your privacy including Areca Palms, Queen Palms, Fishtail Palms, and Palmetto Palms. A large Frangipani/Plumeria tree creates beautiful large flower blossom clusters usually in May or June, which smell ideal and are the basis for Hawaiian leis. Relax in the soft green grass of our Zoysia lawn next to the pool tossing a ball or playing a game of Corn Hole or Golf Toss. Head up to the Crow's Nest deck and watch the dolphins swim by in the Gulf of Mexico next to the beach.

The location to the beach and other attractions was great! If you don’t mind sharing amenities with your upstairs neighbor the property works well. The pool isn’t very big so if both the upstairs guests and the poolside retreat guests are using the pool frequently, it gets quite dirty by the end of the week especially if both units are sleeping the full capacity. Rex (the owner) was very responsive to all communications. I would recommend this property to others.

We loved AMI! Our stay here was great. We were one block off the beach and we had a pool which was great for cooling off and nights.
The size of the rooms were great especially the extra space in the master. This is the first trip where the laundry has been so easy and close and we came home with less laundry to wash.
The kitchen had everything we needed and the dining room table held us all. I’ve already talked to our family about coming back and renting this entire house. Rex was great at communicating and giving us tips! We loved this house and AMI.

Owner’s friend comes by with his girlfriend and decides to entertain while I’m renting the property. Very uncool! Had to ask them to leave since I didn’t know who the were, and really didn’t think I had to share a property I rented

We were pleasantly surprised when we pulled up to house. The cleaning crew was finishing up and we asked if we could sit poolside. Yes! We used the restroom and hung outside while they finished. Our groceries got delivered and we settled in for wonderful week! Our upstairs neighbors were wonderful and sharing the pool and back yard was easy. Would love to come back!!!

The description of the Pool Side Retreat is spot on. Rex was great at communicating and he even called out a technician when the dish box wasn’t working. The rental has pretty much everything you would need for a beach day like beach chairs, a wagon, goggles, SUP & kayaks, boogie boards, etc. (Bring your own beach umbrella). There’s also Adirondack chairs, a fire pit, grill, pool, outdoor shower. There’s a washer/dryer, stove, microwave, Coffee pot, Keurig, large fridge, & toaster oven. The kids loved the pool and we made some great memories! :)

Needs a lot of updating inside and out, main room floor cracked by the wash dryer area. Master bathroom needs updating, and the other bathroom same. Blind’s need to be changed out half of them didn’t work or broken and tied up. Wood decks need to be updated big time, when someone from up stairs spilled stuff bottom people got it.

We drove 7 hours and got to our trip for my 60 birthday and drove up to find out it had been double booked !! Mr Rex found us another place that was further away from beach with 4 kids and we had a terrible week that we thought would be a wonderful 60 th birthday celebration with my grands!! We will never go through VRBO ever again!! It was horrible and I’m still crying about it!! I deserve a full refund if you really want the truth!! We had no pool like we were suppose to have!! Just a horrible experience!! I even bought insurance on this crap that turned out to be nothing like I ever planned!!

Perfect Beach house
This house exceeded our expectations. It was the perfect beach house four my mom’s 80th birthday for our family. It had bikes, paddle boards, kayaks, beach chairs, umbrellas, etc, everything you need for a stay. We easily walked to the beach and it was close to everything. We absolutely loved our stay and will be renting again🌻

Perfect vacation
Felt like a home away from home the beds were comfortable the kids loved the pool especially in the evening and just a short walk to the beach and located near everything. We will definitely come back again.

Easy Place For Plenty of R and R
We four adults spent most of our time either relaxing around the pool or at the beach a five-minute walk away. The house is well equipped, the beds are comfortable. The experience couldn't have been more pleasant--and just what we were looking for.

Wonderful week on AMI
Our stay at the pool side retreat was just what we needed! Everything you could wish for to make your stay enjoyable is provided…from beach toys, bikes, and a lovely heated pool, to the comfy beds inside this place covers it. It was great to be so close to the beach and only minutes from the quaint Bridge Street with its fun shops and restaurants. AMI has become our favorite winter vacation spot and renting the pool side retreat only helped to reinforce that opinion. Thank you so much for sharing your place with us.

Enjoyed Anna Maria Island
Went off without a hitch. Renting and payment went smooth, so did check in and out. No complaints. Nice having wagon for going to the beach. Having the pool was a plus too...ocean water was a little cool. Served our needs just fine.

Perfect stay
We really liked staying at this property. We had 2 under the age of 4 with us and the pool was perfect with the water fountain feature in the pool for hours of entertainment. The location close to the beach was also ideal for easily accessing to walk the beach.

Perfect
Perfect spot for a family vacation. The weather was chilly this week but our Wisconsinite kids used the pool even when the air temp was 48F. We loved the easy walk to the beach and the place had everything we needed. Thanks!

Great location
Just a short walk to the beach which was across the street. Beds were very comfortable which made the vacation even better bc I didn't have a backache.
