On the first night while sleeping we had an unexpected visitor knocking at our door. My Husband tried to see the person at the door but the porch light was burned out. He opened the door slightly and found a young Woman dressed in black with a hooded jacket. She insisted on coming in to get her mail—he said there was no mail here, she demanded our names. My Husband told her in a stern voice that there was nothing here for her and told her leave and closed the door. We were both shook up thinking she may have been baiting us…we contacted the Sheriff’s Department. The Sheriff reported to us they wouldn’t be able to be in the area for a few hours. We barricaded the front door and tried to get back to sleep. The next morning the Young Woman was walking through the backyard where several out buildings were. She continued lurking around the area through our entire stay. It was unnerving.

Yes the view is wonderful BUT The accommodations are run down and dirty. Weird items just randomly stuffed into places. Like it’s someone’s home on a regular basis. The windows have black mold all over them and dirt. The dishwasher wasn’t working . The windows don’t open because there rotten. Big open space and you have. Queen Murphy bed?!?! WHY This place needs a serious facelift. I know it’s not cheap or easy to remodel, especially in that area. But do A deep clean , some fresh paint, and updated the furniture. That would almost make it worth the $$$ , with those small improvements. But I wouldn’t recommend or stay again! It’s WAY overpriced for what you get, RUNDOWN and DIRTY!

We weren't able to stay as the key wasn't where the VRBO directions said it was and we couldn't contact the owner. We arrived to find the business where the key was supposed to be was not in business any longer. I checked with an adjacent business hoping the key might be there, but no. My wife tried for over an hour to reach the owner through VRBO chat with no response. We tried to call the owners phone several times with no answer other than a notice the mailbox was full. After driving for more than 4 hours we needed to find another place to stay. The owner responded to the VRBO chat the next morning - October 9, with an apology and an offer for a full refund, which we happily accepted. We are still waiting for the refund with no response to 2 further VRBO chat messages from us requesting informaition. And an additional attempt at a phone call - still no answer and a full mailbox. We have stayed at this property before with no issues which makes this experience even more disappointing.

We had coffee on the deck watching the waves and storms roll through. Right in the heart of Mendocino, you can walk the entire town from the front door. Really fun to see the place in the opening credits of Murder, She Wrote! Fantastic stay, definitely will be back!

Great location right on Main Street, facing the ocean and adjoining the headlands park with great walking paths and spectacular wild flowers. The place is a bit run down. There’s a sign saying the dishwasher is broken. There’s a sign saying the windows can’t be opened because they are falling apart. The linoleum floor is clean, but very badly marked.

booked a week in advance. property owner ignored us for 5 days (sent her multiple messages in the week leading up to our vacation and she ignored them all). when the day of our vacation comes, she cancels our reservation 3 hours before check in (when we’re already in mendocino) with no warning. her first communication with us was telling us she was cancelling. listen to the reviews, don’t book this place. plenty of cheaper and more reliable places to stay at in the area

Awful experience and I didn’t stay for more than 30 minutes. Upon arrival in Mendocino on New Years Eve 2022. Get to rental and bam. Hits us right in the face.. looks like someone is living here. Dirty everything. Bed unmade, towels dirty. Bathroom filthy. Trash, dishes, everything. Shocked we call host… no answer. Robot voicemail. leave a message. Go to VRBO account. Leave a message. No response. Not having anywhere to go and losing daylight we began to clean. 🤬 so gross! Get to the bathroom and give up, and rent in a town away. Called Deborah if that is her name, and verbally canceled. Guess Debo didn’t get the message cuz VRBO says we stayed in that disgusting place. Worst of all, I left recouping the bill to credit card company because it was so egregious/ cut and dry to me. Can’t cancel if you can’t contact host. credit card co shoots it back to me to recoup from a scam artist that has no address and a phone number that never answers or calls back in Hawaii. Worst experience in short term rental. I’m out $740. Read the reviews people pass up this jerk and her scam.

This place was double booked when we arrived. Ultimately Deb helped us find another spot on Main Street which was appreciated but it cost an extra $600 bucks. Not cool!

Shabby, not very clean, no Internet or television working, and no manager available ("Deborah" did not return our call for assistance). Tricky to find because the directions were outdated and told us to look for a store that no longer exists in order to find the apartment above it. The views and central location were good, however.

Location/view was the only nice thing my husband and I can say about this place. Checkin date on May 12th. I reviewed the checkin instructions early in the day and noticed that the instructions ask you to call the property owners if you are getting there after 5:30. I called and left a message, as well as emailing. We arrived after driving 3 hrs with still no call or response as to how to get in the studio. Come to find out the key was under a shell on the deck ----- this was NOT in the instuctions and how were we to find that in the dark. We had to find alternative lodging for the night. We called VRBO and instructed to drive over to the property and call VRBO back in order to take next steps. We did and they too tried to contact the owners with no success. We were offered a $100 inconvenience fee from VRBO. We finally found the key under the shell to get in. We were met with A DIRTY BED and DIRTY/SOMEWHAT WET towels in the bathroom. That is disgusting during any time but even more so during this pandemic!! We were so blown away. SO disappointing that the owners have still NOT responded or contacted me about the situation. We had to go by Clorox wipes, change the bed and things we should never have had to do in a rental. All and all, not a good rental. Location/view was beautiful but what we went through really tainted the whole experience. Wouldn't recommend!

We were hoping for a least the cleaning fee credited back , but no reply. We booked the same place weekend before but owner cancelled on us , as it was double booked through another site. Then we booked again but was sick and couldn’t go. We love Mendocino , but will not book this place again.

The apartment was dingy, dated and ant infested. The check in instructions were outdated and useless. We wasted hours trying to get in to the space.

Hard to decide whether to have meals on our deck with the beautiful view or at any of a number of great local restaurants within easy walking distance. We got off to a bit of a rocky start due to store below our space being remodeled. Not very peaceful the first two nights as they worked late. The rest of our 7 night stay stay was as peaceful as we expected.

We enjoyed a short holiday getaway in Mendocino and enjoyed staying at this cute and spacious studio. The view is truly amazing and the proximity to the Mendocino Headlands and downtown shops are unbeatable. However, there were a few challenges, including 1) poor communication from the host and insufficient check-in instructions (which caused some stress on our drive up since we needed a late check-in) and 2) the ant infestation problem (which I was prepared for from reading previous reviews). We had several food items totally destroyed by ants (even after properly storing), which was disappointing and frustrating. The ants were in the freezer and refrigerator, and throughout the kitchen.

Fabulous place right in the heart of Mendocino. The second bedroom was a little tight for our daughters, but they had a good attitude and made it work fine. And the pictures made it crystal clear that the second bedroom is small, so no complaints. Loved the balcony and the chairs overlooking the cliffs and the water. And there's a really friendly neighbor - Caleb - how added to the charm. I highly recommend this spot and expect to be back there soon enough!

The owner cancelled via email the morning of the stay. Mendocino has had a water shortage fora month. She could have let me know it was a problem before I made the 2 hr. Trip. This is unacceptable,if it was me that cancelled I would have had to pay cancelation fees. It was a huge inconvenience and ruined my vacation

This is a delightful place to stay in many ways. The bed was so comfortable. The room so light-filled. The deck was entertaining. There were many little amenities to cover all our needs. However, the host was difficult to communicate with. We had some issues with billing she solved eventually. We had no trouble checking in since a key was hidden under an obvious shell. But, we didn't know until we got there it would be there. Her check-in instructions weren't up to date, and she didn't respond to several attempts to contact her. Other than old and cracked plastic chairs on the deck, everything else was great.

We were up to celebrate my sister's life, our memorial held at Big River, and the location was perfect. The balconies were splendid, kitchen had all that was needed, comfy bed, and a place of comfort and safety. Thank you! Special thanks to Caleb for helping with the wifi new pw.

We have stayed at this property twice before. The property is really getting run down. The instructions are to get the key from the shop below. We were there well before they closed according to the instructions. I called, the phone number was no longer accurate. I messaged through VRBO, nothing. We ended up finding the key. Then we got the message from the manager where it was. There were ants this time. A few on the kitchen counter and more under the sink. We cleaned and made sure we didnt leave anything out on the counter. We will not be coming back to this property. Its too bad. She has an excellent location and it could be such a great place if taken care of.

We loved the view from the windows and balcony. The apartment was light and very comfortable. Easy walking to restaurants, shops and great scenery. Very quiet too. Communication with the property manager was lacking. Luckily, a shop person nearby told us how to find the key. When I tried to call and text the contact number, there was no reply. However, we still loved staying there, enough that we would return.

the location and vies can’t be beat. the studio is roomy and has everything you need. it’s a bit shabby and gives a vibe of not being quite clean. it could use a good professional cleaning periodically

Although it does not qualify for fancy, this unit was comfortable and we had a nice stay. The outstanding part is the view, which is among the finest in town. I did not experience some of the problems noted in recent reviews, like ants, but the problems we did experience could have been avoided by just a little more attentiveness, such as providing clear instructions on how to use the very nice large Dish TV in the unit.

We booked this property for our 34th wedding anniversary and even tacked on an additional night as we were so looking forward to the celebration. The studio is in a very quiet location, over a shuttered shop, and boasts wonderful views of the ocean. It is located within walking distance of restaurants, quant stores, and the Mendocino Headlines hiking areas. It was fun to sit on the deck and look across to the ocean and watch tourists come and go. The main problem with the property appears to be deferred maintenance issues and poor communication which have been documented in some reviews. We wish to point out that we have never written a poor review in 40 years of renting, but as customers who rely heavily on what others have to say, we feel the need to be honest and transparent. So, while the location and ocean view were highlights other issues certainly detracted from our stay. The cork floors have been neglected and are stained/worn, leading to a dirty feeling. As indicated in reviews, we spent multiple nights trying to get the Dish system to work so we could watch TV after long days of hiking. Never worked! There was either black mold or serious dirt on the wood window casings which should be addressed due to health issues. As previously noted, the couch and chair are highly stained and filthy and we had to put blankets on them. There were ants on the refrigerator, as noted by the last guest, and they eventually migrated to the kitchen and dining room table. There were no ant stakes on the premises. The shower head in the bathroom only allowed for a trickle of water and we had to splash water on us and could not wash our hair for two days. The drop off/return key directions are outdated as the Twist store below has been closed for a long time, according to people in town. We tried reaching out for assistance to the property owner, utilizing the contact telephone number on VRBO and welcome guest book, and left two messages for assistance. No response as others have noted. A helpful shop owner e-mailed the owner, addressing a few of the issues we were having. So, two days into our stay, the owner texted that a plumber could assess the problem that day. We returned to the property and the shower head was replaced. While the owner offered to have the couch cleaned it would then be damp/require us to be at the property. The dish system couldn't be fixed until our departure. A very disappointing experience for what could be a great property.

Upon check-in there were ants on the fridge. Later in the night, there were ants in the bathroom. There was hair on the bed at first glance. The couch was so stained and dirty we had to throw a blanket over it. It is really beautiful location and charming place but the lack of cleanliness really killed our experience and stay

Best stay in Mendocino ever: we come up a few times a year.

Location and setting excellent. Parking very good. Problem with non functional tv, especially on election night. Contact with owner not possible to problem solve snow on tv, no response to our calls. No dish washer soap. Drinking water not available as jugs not placed in dispenser. No light in bath room. Complaints are an easy fix, but irritating especially when one has high hopes for an excellent stay. Art Trujillo

My husband and I had a wonderful weekend getaway to Mendocino. The apartment was clean, inviting, and had a killer view and front deck where we had coffee each morning and take out each evening. Couldn’t have asked for a better stay.
