About this cabin rental

Originally built in the 1940's and freshly restored to it's former glory, the Owl's Nest Cabin is a slice of Pioneertown history. In addition to the Cabin we offer the "Little Hoot" vintage trailer. The Little Hoot is a 1957 Aljo that has been completely restored. The trailer option functions as an extra bedroom and relax space for extra guests. The trailer rents for an additional $70 per night.
Guests in the trailer will use the bathroom in the cabin, just steps away.
We are located in Water Canyon just 1.8 miles from famous Pappy and Harriets and Pioneertown's scenic Mane St. The Owl's Nest Cabin offers majestic views of the Sawtooth Mountains and is just a short drive to the nearest Joshua Tree Park entrance (Black Rock). Also nearby, The Pioneertown Mountain Preserve offers plenty of hiking trails.

This cabin is a world away from the hustle bustle of the city. Completely surrounded by nature, it's the perfect place to get away. Enjoy listening to the birds sing, watching the coyote's wander in the wash, and breathing in the fresh desert sage air.
We do not offer a TV. We do have internet and a bluetooth radio. The main source of heat in the cabin is a pellet stove. There is also a wall mounted electric heater in the back room. If you decide to add the trailer option during the cold months be assured it is as cozy as can be, thanks to a small but powerful electric heater. It's also quite cozy inside the cabin, however a warm sweater and warm socks are still recommended during the coldest winter months. The pellet stove in the cabin features simple push button operation and has a thermostat. It can run for about 14 hours before more pellets must be added to the hopper. We provide the pellets. In the warmer months the cabin is cooled by an evaporative cooling unit (swamp cooler) that is mounted on the roof. It forces a large amount of air through the cabin and can only work if a window or two in the front room are left about halfway open. If all the windows and doors are closed the evaporative cooling unit will not have the desired effect.
There are several choices available for dining and shopping a short drive from the cabin . Old Town Yucca is about one mile down the road. There you can find a handful of great antique shops, vintage clothing stores, restaurants, as well as a coffee shop and some mom and pop style restaurants. Pioneertown is 2 miles up the road and the home of the famous Pappy and Harriet's Bar and Restaurant. There you can experience some unforgettable Santa Maria BBQ and world calss live entertainment. Frontier Coffeehouse is about a mile down the road in the center of Old Town Yucca. They dish out some of the best BLT's and sophisticated egg sandwiches your palette could ever yearn for, while serving the finest local Joshua Tree Coffee. They have a beer and wine license and a couple nights a week offer live music.
If you'd like to venture a little bit further take a short ride down Hwy 62 to the Joshua Tree Saloon. There you'll get a taste of more local talent and yummy bar fare. The End Clothing Shop is an eclectic blend of chic housewares, jewelry and hand picked second hand fashion. The Hoof and Horn, a western style fashion boutique with a flare. Pioneertown Crossing has a great selection of antiques! Art FX and Furnishings has an amazing selection of local art and gifts. This place is full of desert gems.
Now for hiking,
There are plenty of special areas to hike very close to the cabin. Just a short walk across Pioneertown Rd will bring you to the base of Water Canyon where you can walk up the wash to the Sawtooth Mountain Range. If you'd like to explore further please check out this site for information on Joshua Tree National Park and The Pioneertown Mountain Preserve.
To catch a glimpse of the deserts creative visionaries, visit the sculpture site of the famous Noah Purifoy and enjoy strange and unique sculptures. Head to the historic Integratron if you enjoy architecture and healing sound baths (sound baths are by appointment only).
We are happy to answer any questions you may have during your stay.
Come out and enjoy everything this high desert getaway has to offer!

Great little cabin! Super cute and clean. Check in seamless. Message with host was excellent. We stayed 2 nights in January. Very cold when we arrived, took 2-3 hours for the pellet stove to warm up the space then it was able to keep up. Bed comfortable. Shower good bathroom chilly. They have a coffee pot AND a kettle!! Tea drinkers bonus! Owners live just above but it is private. Neighbors nearby but far enough away. 10 to coffee shops and grocery 20 mins into Joshua Tree NP. The cleaning/checkout printed list in cabin is very extensive and confusing. Check with owners as to what are your responsibilities.

My two nights at the Owl's Nest were restful, restorative, and cozy. Lula and Matt have created a space (a constellation of indoor and outdoor spaces) that made me feel immediately at home. I loved everything about it!

Perfect cabin in a perfect location
Perfect cabin in a perfect location
I searched high and low, debated different areas around Joshua Tree, Morengo and Yucca Valley. We are so glad we chose this spot. It’s a reasonable, pleasant drive to JT and only minutes to restaurants and shopping in Yucca Valley. The cabin is even better than the pictures. It is very roomy and well appointed, thoughtfully decorated and really comfortable. And the views and beautiful! Lulu and Matt are amazing to deal with. Our plans changed due to Covid and they were willing to switch our original dates to a later This is an ideal spot to use as a base for exploring the JT and Pioneertown area.
