About this house rental

Book the entire farm for your Charlottesville area wedding, extended family gathering, anniversary party, retreat or other special event. NOTE: The Pavilion must also be booked for weddings and other party events, at extra cost explained in the rates section. The Pavilion is your reception site, and includes tables, chairs, ceremony site, dressing rooms, caterer's warming kitchen, etc.

Wolf Trap Farm features panoramic views of mountains, pastures, horses and cattle, miles of board fencing and beautiful woodlands full of trails. The farm complex is a Virginia Historic Landmark and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Manor House is at the heart of the farm complex, and features 4 bedrooms, 4 baths, two kitchens, a large patio and boxwood garden. Nestled behind the Manor House is the 1856 Servants' Cottage, with its huge covered patio. Just down the hill is the Pond House, a more contemporary cottage overlooking a pond full of bass, bream, frogs and turtles. The Milker's Cottage is just beyond the Pavilion. Renovated in 2015, it has two bedrooms, two baths and a large screened porch. Past the Milker's Cottage is the driveway to Baldy's retreat, a "tricked out" modular with modern styling that sleeps 13. There is also a Barn Apartment, and the Cox Mill House. The entire farm is truly idyllic, with horses and cattle as part of your scenery.

The Charlottesville area, with its stunning scenery, many wineries, and historic sites such as Monticello, Montpelier, and rural historic districts, has become a top choice for weddings and other special gatherings. Wolf Trap Farm hosts over 50 weddings each year, plus family reunions, anniversary parties, and big family vacations. If you do not need all the houses, we can offer you the package you want so long as it does not interfere with our week-end (Friday & Saturday) wedding packages.

Our Pavilion is enclosed on three sides, accommodates 150 under roof and has an overflow patio that can seat another 40 - 50, and has a stage and ample dance floor. There is an oversized ladies' dressing/bathroom, men's bathroom, and a caterer's warming kitchen. Our hilltop ceremony site is just behind the Pavilion.
All ages are happy at the farm. The little ones play in the great outdoors, the oldsters stroll the grounds, the teenagers and young adults go on excursions on or off the farm, the guys can fish or play pool, the gals can soak in the hot tub, and the dogs are particularly happy.

If you have ever driven the winding country roads around Charllottesville, admiring the beautiful estates and wondering what it would be like to visit such places, perhaps for a wedding or party, here is your opportunity.

Wonderful Pre-wedding Retreat
Wonderful Pre-wedding Retreat
We hosted our bridal party at wolftrap farm for the two days leading up to our wedding weekend, and it was the perfect setting for everyone to get to get to know each other beforehand, and served as an ideal home base for events around Charlottesville. We would strongly reccomend this property for weddings, reunions, and other moderate-sized family/friend gatherings.

Perfect offbeat wedding venue
Perfect offbeat wedding venue
When my husband and I began looking for wedding venues for our October 2013 wedding, we had little criteria aside from staying within a reasonable budget, being able to bring our dogs and doing whatever we wanted with the space. Believe it or not, this is a tall order in the Charlottesville area (hi, dollar signs)! When we drove up the drive to Wolf Trap Farm, I immediately knew it was where we would get married. The views are amazing and the grounds pristine, not to mention the farm had enough room to house both our immediate families--all 20 of them! The estate is first and foremost a horse farm, with sprawling fields and horses as far as the eye can see. Everything is immaculately groomed, with lots of different spaces to choose from for an event. We chose to have our wedding ceremony on the front lawn with the mountains serving as a beautiful backdrop. We then walked across the path and had an 80-person family style dinner and reception in front of the main house. The houses themselves are really lovely. The Mansion had lots of charm and enough beds for my husband's very large family. My family stayed just down the road in the Pond House and they really enjoyed themselves. My husband and I stayed in the newly renovated servant's cottage between the Mansion and Pond House, and it was like a little honeymoon sweet. Our dogs loved it too! The one complaint I have is regarding the cleanliness of the floors and windows. I understand it's a farm, but it was very apparent that the floors are not cleaned regularly since they were filthy (I couldn't go barefoot), and the window sills were packed with dead stink bug carcases. If I were you, I would ask Keith (the owner) to communicate to his staff at the farm that they need to avoid cutting corners. The staff was terrific overall. They let you have run of the place, but they are there for anything you may need. We had one party foul with a broken window, and they were really great about it. Keith was a dream to work with from start to finish. He was always prompt in responding to our questions and had no qualms with our plan for the wedding. I heard that he recently built an open barn specifically for events, which will no doubt make Wolf Trap even more popular for weddings. We were maybe the third wedding that ever took place on the farm, but from what I hear, it's becoming a new Charlottesville wedding destination.
