About this cottage rental
NOTE: The AI added description from VRBO/Expedia above the headline is incorrect - the nearest beach is two blocks away and only for the use of the cottages on our street.
COVID 19 Update: Additional steps are taken to ensure the safety and health of our guests and mitigate the spread of C19 or any other virus:
1. Additional cleaning and sanitizing by disinfecting the cottage with professional, hospital-grade cleaners that are specified by the CDC/EPA.
2. Extra time on disinfecting all doorknobs, light switches, remote controls, etc. as recommended by the CDC.
3. Access to additional paper goods (plates, napkins, toilet paper, paper towels, etc.) as well as disposable silverware, cutting boards & disinfecting supplies.
At the end of a row of 5 cottages, along a private street, sits a 1935 cottage, Sandy Feet, that embraces 21rst century living without letting go of its beloved past. This quaint & timeless *air-conditioned* cottage sleeps 7 - 8 comfortably in three bedrooms (Primary bedroom with new king mattress & adjustable frame, 'Beach Room' with 2 XL twin beds & pullout twin trundle, & 'Bunk Room' with 2 twin bunks & antique Ranch Hand's bed). All three bedrooms plus the living room have a ‘smart TV’ for streaming (no cable or network TV). Sandy Feet's daily & weekly prices are completely *inclusive* of cleaning fees and taxes. All the basic amenities for guests (paper goods, soaps, spices/condiments & coffee/tea/hot chocolate) are included - even oatmeal for breakfast and cookies warm from the oven!!
Nightly and weekly rates (as well as minimum stay) vary depending upon the season. Check the calendar for the rate on your requested dates. There is an additional charge for more than 5 guests, including family/friends who arrive/sleep after your arrival date.
Relax at Sandy Feet in a living room with leather couch, large screen TV (Netflix, Hulu, etc.), board games & puzzles, a full kitchen, dining room, bathroom with shower, and sunroom/enclosed porch (with a small view of the lake). Located across the street from Lake Huron, a giant deck wraps around two sides of the house with gas grill, umbrella table, chairs, and loungers. The huge yard, great for badminton & croquet, also has a fire pit for evening bonfires. There's a garage with a ping pong table & all the beach toys & games imaginable for the young and young-at-heart. Grab your lightweight wagon with beach chairs, towels and cooler (provided) and head down the block to the paved path to the beach where you can gaze over miles of open water, with it's ever-changing waves & sand. And there's no better place on earth to sip a cup of morning coffee and watch the sun rise.
Sandy Feet Cottage is in a superb location in Fort Gratiot Township on the 'north end,' only 1 mile from the mall and all of the major superstores and restaurants (both local-owned favorites & all the chains) - and less than 5 min. to Starbucks, Barnes & Noble Books, and Krafft 8 Movie Theater. You're in downtown Port Huron in 10 minutes, with all of the great shops, restaurants, farmer's market, River Walk, marinas and more. The picturesque vacation village of Lexington, with their great summer music series, quaint shops, fun beach and long pier walk is only 15 - 20 minutes to the north of Sandy Feet. And for those visitors not from SE Michigan, it's no more than 60 minutes to Tiger Stadium and the Fox Theater in downtown Detroit to catch a ballgame or professional theater.
With this quick and easy access, unusual for most cottage experiences, there is some road noise from nearby Lakeshore Road. This is the only access up the 'thumb' of Michigan, so guests hear traffic noise when on the deck or lawn, or windows are open.
This charming cottage has vintage furniture in the sunroom, local antique postcards on the walls, a very unusual antique 'ranch hand's' bed, mission rocker, and other retro touches. But there also are four 'smart' TVs (49' in lvg rm) with many free streaming apps (Apple TV+, Disney+, Hulu, Amazon Prime), a recently-remodeled kitchen with microwave and all needed small & large appliances, a Bluetooth music system (streams music from apps like Pandora or Spotify or play your own stored tunes in your smart phone), washer & dryer (supplies provided), and high speed internet augmented with an additional router to be sure there is plenty of strong Wi-Fi access for all of your devices. We want you to be able to relax on your vacation, so in addition to linens & towels (both bath & beach), all paper goods, shampoo, soap, spices, coffee, tea & hot chocolate are provided. There's even extra sunscreen, bug spray, toothpaste, & deodorant if needed! Cozy throws & blankets are located throughout the cottage, but a new gas forced-air furnace will make Sandy Feet toasty in an instant. And for those 'dog days' when fans & the lake breeze are not enough, there's central air conditioning. Vintage, yes, but re-imagined for the 21rst century.
In the spring of 1919, Harry S Truman returned from duty in World War I & married Elizabeth 'Bess' Wallace. The couple spent part of their honeymoon at the Harrington Hotel in Port Huron, MI. Their daughter, Margaret, wrote in her biography of Bess, 'For the rest of his life, whenever Harry Truman wanted to regain the radiance of those first days with Bess, he simply wrote 'Port Huron.' For him it was a code word for happiness.' It's our code word for happiness too, and it will be yours as well as you discover the Blue Water region.

We loved our visit to Sandy Feet Cottage! The location was great, the accomodations were spacious / plentiful, the cottage was comfortable, & access to the beach was very close. Darlene's communication was excellent. My family & I made some wonderful memories on our vacation.

Cannot say enough good things about this property and property manager Darlene! First off, the description is spot on. The property is tucked away in a very nice and quiet neighborhood, just steps away from Lake Huron. Once you step inside, you will feel right at home. Everything you need to take the stress out of your stay is provided. We were able to sit out on the large deck and watch the sun rise in the morning and set in the evening. We found the games and Ping Pong table to be a great way to relax after a long day exploring the area. We had such a great time and will definitely be booking this property again.

Sandy Feet is always well taken care of. Stocked with everything we need. Just like being at home but off Lake Huron. Ms. Darlene is always kind and available for any questions or concerns. Love that place and all my summer neighbors. Looking forward to 2024!

My friends and I loved our stay. The Sandy Feet Cottage was everything and more than expected. It was comfortable inside and out. We played outdoor games that were provided by Darlene, enjoyed the fire pit, walked the beach, and baked cookies she provided for us if the freezer. The sun porch was relaxing and cozy for morning coffee. It was so nice. Thank you Darlene.

All the little nautical themed touches in this cottage made us feel so relaxed and at home. We had such a lovely time. We enjoyed the fires in the fire pit, cooking on the grill and eating on the patio, walking along the beach, and playing games indoors.
The Wi-Fi connection was great as we also had work to do on our laptops. We would love to come here again!

Staying in Sandy Feet Cottage felt like we were staying at a dear friend or close family member’s home. It was clean and cozy, and Darlene was the most hospitable host EVER. So many thoughtful touches- plenty of linens, cookie dough and cinnamon rolls, tons of board games, and so much more. The beds were comfortable, the Smart TVs were appreciated as it was cold and rainy in evenings when we were there. The beach was just steps away and since my friends and I specifically came to PH/FG to look for rocks, we were pleased to find it it was rocky. It was lovely being able to sit in the sunroom in the morning and see the Lake. My friends loved having the ping pong table available. It was all such a lovely, pleasant stay, and I hope to visit again!!

Yes, we decided to come to the warm state of Michigan for our Spring Break. Actually, the true reason was to come visit my husband’s elderly mother. This home was in the perfect location. It was clean, stocked with all necessary items, and had a nice view of Lake Huron. Restaurants, grocery stores and shopping are all within a 5 minute drive. Darlene was a wonderful host. The weather wasn’t too bad (not having any snow was a win), but we will perhaps rent again when we return in the summer.

We have stayed in many Vrbo rental properties and Darlene is the best host we have had so far. Communication with her is great! She also had a freezer packed with goodies to enjoy. It was amazing!! Thank you so much. We highly recommend this place. The location was perfect. Just a short walk from the beach.

The cottage was a perfect location , close to Lake Huron and our family. The host thought of everything we might heed during our stay. The unique sailboat themed antiques added to the ambience. This was our second time staying there and hopefully we will get to relax at Sandy Feet again in the future.

Excited to stay
I was so excited to find this cottage just a mile from where I grew up. This was the perfect place for my family as an overflow from my mom and dad’s beach house. It was a great place to return to at the end of our busy family get together’s. The cottage was very cozy and well kept. We will definitely hope for this to be available for future stays. Darlene was a great host extremely friendly and communicated everything perfectly!

Wonderful house for our family vacation
Our family had a great time at the cottage. We enjoyed the beachy decor and had lots of fun playing all the lawn games. The walk to the lake was so short and the beach/park was only a short drive away. Perfect place for a family to enjoy a relaxing week at the lake

Cozy house by the beach
We visited with our kids in April, and had some unexpected snow and chilly weather. But Darlene’s home was so welcoming that we enjoyed being inside and my kids were taken with the cookie dough ready to help us stay warm. Darlene even texted on arrival to see if we needed anything. The proximity to the beach and shops and restaurants made things easy for families, and there were truly books and games for all ages which we really enjoyed! The house was lovely and nice sheets, beds, and towels made evenings restful and cozy. Thank you Darlene!

Home away from home!
This rental has everything you need. Literally. The location is great. Nearby stores and restaurants. The primary reason I was in the area was for rock hounding. So Fort Gratiot and Lakeport parks were a very short distance. The house itself is beautifully decorated and cozy. The neighborhood was nice and quiet, we felt safe. Beach access is just steps away. Had it been warmer we would have jumped right in! Darlene made sure we were happy and was so helpful. We appreciated that. We loved it and hope to visit again soon! Thanks for everything!

Relaxing Family Getaway
We loved staying at the Sandy Feet Cottage! The location to Lake Huron was amazing, just a quick stroll down a path along a creek leading to the lake. The weekend we went was freezing (Winter's last hurrah!), but still spent a good amount of time enjoying the views at the lake and searching for unique rocks.
The cottage is close to a couple of great lakeside parks as well, and not far from Port Huron for some cute shops and tasty restaurants. We had a great lunch at Kate's Downtown, great pizza at Casey's for dinner, and enjoyed getting coffee at Raven's Cafe which has a bit of a Harry Potter vibe!
The cottage has everything and much more you could need. We loved the wonderful welcome basket and cookies to cook up in the kitchen, great welcoming touches. The cottage is super cozy, and it's fun to see all the Lake Huron collectibles throughout the house, it's classic Michigan! Despite being so cold those couple of days we stayed, the sunroom (which you can see the lake from) warmed up quite nicely with the plug-in heater.
Darlene was so kind in texting us to make sure we had everything we needed and to make sure everything was to our liking when we arrived. We truly enjoyed our stay!

Perfect beach house!
I gave this beach house rental a 5 star rating, of 5 out of 5. It was a short walk to a private beach and the owners had there garage filled with beach rafts, sand buckets, etc. We had family over, played ping pong, corn hole, and other games. We had s’mores over there fire pit,and grilled meats on the grill. We had access to a stocked pantry ,and had a note on the fridge that we could welcome ourselves to make cinnamon rolls and cookie doe in the freezer. We think this is the best place we have ever stayed, and would again.

Great family getaway
We had a fantastic time at Sandy Feet and were impressed with the vast array of beach paraphernalia available to use. I was prepared to struggle a little bit with the kids at the beach because we chose not to pack our usual set up to save space and just use what was available I thought it was pleasantly surprised at the multiple quality umbrellas, beach chairs, wagon, beach totes and durable sand toys and buckets to choose from to take the kids to the beach.

Well stocked nautical themed cottage
The owner was a delight to work with. The house was extremely well stocked with personal items, beach items, cookware, spices, dishes, etc. You can tell they live there part-time and they are cooks because it was so nice to cook there. My family got addicted to playing ping pong. Super relaxing in a super clean house. Highly recommend.

So happy we found this adorable cottage!
We were looking for a place to kick back and relax. We found it at Sandy Feet Cottage! Super clean. Beautifully decorated. Well-stocked full kitchen. And that sun room! We sat on the settee in the sun room, early Sunday morning, looking out at the lake and listening to bird song... so tranquil! Cannot say enough good things about this property, and Darlene, the host, was so helpful. Excellent communication. Highly recommend.

We loved this little getaway. It's close to shopping but also close to Lakeside park for good rock hunting, Lots of amenities and attention to little details like Bose speaker to use, and very clean. Overall super easy to check in and out and we enjoyed it!

This was an amazing extended weekend getaway. The property was clean and they have taken extra precautions to keep it that way since the Covid pandemic. Hand sanitizer and extra wipes are placed throughout the cottage, as are reminders to wash your hands! When we arrived everything was neat and clean. Communication with the owner was great through the entire process. She sent me information on the town, things to do, restaurants, etc to prepare me for the trip. I will definitely recommend and stay again!

We were in Port Huron to celebrate my Mother's 80th Birthday. Sandy Feet Cottage was a wonderful place for us to spend time with my parents, sister, daughter and son-in-law. It is located in a nice, quiet neighborhood, with easy access to town. Darlene has done an amazing job decorating the cottage and providing many thoughtful touches - chocolate chip cookies, cinnamon rolls, coffee and tea; a well stocked kitchen, bathroom, laundry room and bedrooms; a welcome bucket of goodies - hand sanitizers, gloves, cutting boards, a chocolate bar and a handmade pottery bowl. Darlene has many things that we didn't have the opportunity to use - sweatshirts, books, board games, outdoor games, hammock, lawn chairs, grill and fire pit. We did have the opportunity to walk down to the beach and do a little rock hounding. It is a peaceful place. Love the sound of the waves crashing on the shoreline. All three days were filled with sunshine and blue skies. Unfortunately it was too windy for us to use the fire pit.Darlene gives very helpful information before arrival, laminated sheets and a notebook at the cottage. On arrival we found the front storm door unlocked and the door between the sunroom and bedroom unlocked and open. I notified Darlene about it and that nothing seem disturbed. The only negative we found was in regards to some areas of cleaning: twin beds were messed up, like they had been sat on; kitchen counters and stovetop were dirty on arrival; the lint trap of the dryer was extremely full when my daughter used it; there was dust/dirt on top of the shower door and on bedroom blinds; and upon leaving we found the inside of the kitchen garbage can was dirty due to no liner being used. The cleaning issues aren't major things but areas that we feel could be improved on. With all the current Covid restrictions and precautions, we understand there is a lot to be done in cleaning and allowing others to rent properties. We appreciate having the opportunity to stay at Sandy Feet Cottage and understand the challenge of being an out of state owner relying on others for cleaning. Checkout was an easy process. We would rent the cottage again if the need/opportunity arises. Thank you for sharing your special place.

My 2 sisters and I rented out this gem of a cottage February 26th-28th...a weekend getaway a short distance from our homes. Darlene was super in all aspects of being our hostess! Communication beforehand was A+ .. Every detail was explained so I didn't have any questions. Darlene offered us early check in so we arrived @ 1pm on Friday. The cottage was easy to find and when we saw the 2 red chairs out front we knew we were in the right place. Great to have a big garage to park in.. the lock box for the keys was easy access. Inside everything we could ever need or want was supplied. The cottage was roomy and adorable with all the beachy decor. I'm sure in the summer the neighborhood would be rocking but in February it was nice and quiet. We had a beautiful full moon and walked down to the beach access for some photo opps. So lovely listening to the waves as they moved over the ice..it sounded like wind chimes in a fancy spa! We lucked out with the weather being in the 40s-50s and sunny so we went for a short drive to the Blue Water Bridge to watch the ice float by. So relaxing!! We checked out on Sunday @ noon after a fabulous time with sisters in this fabulous cottage by the lake. I would highly recommend this property any time of year.. I bet in the summer it's the best since it was great in the winter! I don't have any negitives... Only positives to report. If you're thinking about renting out Sandy Feet - just do it! Thank you again Darlene for sharing your cottage with us ❤

Amazing Place for a Getaway Retreat
I spent the weekend on a personal retreat/Bible study and it was just what I needed to recharge. Everything I needed was conveniently part of the nautical and beach themed cottage. My teen daughter who’s a huge Fixer Upper show fan wished every vacation home had as good of decorating detail as Sandy Feet Cottage! In short, awesome accommodations and service.
