About this house rental
Vista Mill Valley has the details inside and outside that warrant your consideration. Inside, the property has nice furnishings, from granite counter tops to the Fisher & Paykel gourmet gas range. The bedroom has an 8 ft glass window and a 10 ft sliding glass door. The living room has another 8 ft window, making the wooded lot a part of your experience. Your unit has its own deck, accessible from the bedroom or the main entrance. Your water view includes Richardson Bay, Tiburon, the Sausalito houseboats, Angel Island, the East Bay hills, and, on a clear night, the lit-up cranes of the Oakland waterfront, across the Bay.
Why Mill Valley?
Mill Valley is popular for visitors from around the world because it is minutes from San Francisco, yet a world apart. Famous for its wooded hillsides and water views, Mill Valley has been the home of many notables, from Jerry Garcia to Janis Joplin. Grab a coffee in our downtown, and you might just recognize a few of our current residents.
If you've not been the the San Francisco Bay Area before, do stay in San Francisco for at least one night. But then come join us here in Mill Valley, for the perfect northern California experience.
Why this property?
Before putting this unit on the market we completed a major remodel, taking much of the property down to the studs. All the small details - sophisticated lighting, built-in speakers, etc. - contribute to a great experience. The kitchen is small, so we made it special, with a gourmet gas range, granite counter tops, etc. The deck was always nice, but we made it nicer, with Brazilian teak, and cable railings. And the exterior path and steps have been redesigned, to better leverage the garden.
Mill Valley has many wonderful properties, but some of them are time-consuming to get to. This property is only 1.1 miles from the freeway ramp.
Two considerations: 1) Like many San Francisco, Sausalito and Mill Valley properties, this unit does not have air conditioning. 2) It's about 40 steps to the unit. Not 40 in a row (there are multiple landings) and most of the steps are low-rise, but do read the reviews and make sure the property is right for you. Thanks!

If I could use only one word to describe this listing, it would be “amazing”!
We enjoyed every moment of staying at this wonderful place from the time Bill greeted us at the door on our arrival, to sending us on our way at checkout time!
Everything was spotless clean with a lot of thoughtful touches, the bed was extremely comfortable, and it was so nice to wake up to a million $$$ view right out of bedroom window!
We also loved spending out time sitting on the patio, and watching hummingbirds zooming around :)
Thank you to our gracious hosts for sharing their wonderful home with us!

After a long drive from LA, our first night we flopped and slept on the bed so quickly, and enjoyed every moment there after. Last week was the exact break from our lives that we needed and were looking for. Everything was as advertised, clean, and had extras stocked. Thank you for the lovely stay, we enjoyed every space and moment there.

Bill greeted us when we arrived and even helped us bring in our bags! The place was immaculately clean, very comfortable, and the view was incredible from our bedroom window! We enjoyed taking in the views from the private deck each morning, and even saw some hummingbirds in his garden. The neighborhood is quiet but with plenty to do and it was pretty close to all the best hiking spots and the city as well! We will definitely look this place up first the next time we visit the Bay Area.

Immaculate, spacious and well stocked place. The view from the bedroom and the desk in the living room were fabulous. Lovely and spacious deck as well. Everything I could need was there including a fabulous CD collection. The hosts were responsive, gracious and kind. I can't wait to return.

I recently stayed at a charming VRBO rental in Mill Valley and cannot recommend it highly enough. This gem exceeded my expectations, making for an unforgettable stay.
From the moment we arrived, it was clear that the host had put a lot of thought into every detail. My name was thoughtfully printed out and taped to the mailbox, instantly bringing a smile to my face after a long day of travel.
The property is the lower unit of a duplex, beautifully nestled into a hillside. Accessing the unit requires ascending about 48 stone steps that meander through lush plantings and trees, creating a sense of adventure and tranquility. I was delighted to discover a hidden koi pond under the trees, adding a magical touch to our entry.
Upon entering, the space looked even better than the photos I had seen online. The contemporary decor in natural colors created a warm and inviting atmosphere. The L-shaped layout of the interior mirrors the deck outside, offering picturesque views from every angle. The eastern view, in particular, features lush greenery that evokes the enchanting feeling of being in a treehouse. In the distance, you can see Richardson Bay and the Freeway Bridge.
The northern side of the house is shaded by the neighboring property, but bamboo outside the windows creates a serene privacy screen. It was a pleasure to look out at the calming greenery while doing everyday chores.
The kitchen is a well-appointed galley that adjoins the living space and bedroom. Every detail i

We stayed at this property for 7 days and could not be more pleased. Our hosts were well organized and the expectations were very clear which was highly appreciated as this was our first time utilizing VRBO. The location was everything as described. There were no disappointments.

My husband and I stayed here for a quick getaway. It was our first time visiting the Bay area. The rental was very clean, fully stocked and in the best location! Having parking available was great too. Bill was quick to reply to any questions we had. Would definitely stay here again.

The unit was exactly as advertised. We stayed for eight days in May. The unit was spotless inside and out with a breathtaking view and lots of nearby activities, restaurants, and grocery stores. The hosts were very helpful and the unit was furnished with a nice collection of books, music, electronics, and TV options. We spent most of our time in Mill Valley, Sausalito, and the surrounding area with occasional visits over the nearby Golden Gate to San Francisco which was 20-30 minutes away. The only caveat is that there are stairs from the parking area to the unit itself, so if you have issues climbing stairs that could be a challenge.

We were thrilled with our stay at Bill and Terry’s place! They are so thoughtful in considering the needs of their guests and the rental is so well equipped!
The location is fantastic and the view is amazing!
We loved staying here!

We very much enjoyed our stay at the Mill Valley Escape. The property was nestled in a lush garden with a beautiful deck and water views! Easy check in and out, super clean and close to trails. We will be back!

Located on the quieter side of The Bay. A fabulous place. Super clean and remarkably comfortable. Thoughtfully decorated to let in the light and beauty of the surrounding area.
Beautifully landscaped gardens including a variety of blooming plants, a spectacular redwood tree steps from the front door and a goldfish pond. Property is pristine inside and out. The in-unit binder with local finds along with instructions/expectations very helpful and appreciated. Bill was really helpful, offered to be readily available for consultation.
Definitely recommend staying here and hope to return in the future.
Thank You Bill & Terry

Loved this respite on the hill! Place was clean with beautiful views. The place is well laid out and the kitchen has everything you might need. Easy to get to Tennessee Beach and Muir Woods, wonderful places to explore nature in the area. I’ll be back!

This was our second time staying here and we absolutely love this place. It is clean, private & perfectly located. The view is spectacular in all weather. It is close to the bike trail, Tam Junction and our family. There are even great donuts at the bottom of the hill. In a very short time you can be at Muir Beach, Woods and Overlook & Rodeo Beach. Downtown Mill Valley has lots to see and eat. But don't miss Angel Island, Point Reyes, and a ferry to San Francisco. If you like hiking, there are plenty of trails to choose from. We will definitely go back. Thank you Bill & Terri for offering such a great retreat.

Stayed here while visiting family and friends. The apartment was as described and better. Clean and well equipped with clear explanations for everything. Great communications with Bill. Beautiful living space inside and out with steps up to the apartment through lush landscaping. Everything was in great working order. Details such stocking of condiments, olive oil, etc down to the quality soft facial tissues were appreciated. Also, a great location. Don't miss the nearby Tennessee Valley Trail or Hook Fish Co. restaurant among many other attractions. Definitely would stay here again--next time with my wife.

We were pleased to arrive and find the five star reviews of this place are well deserved. A very clean, thoughtfully-equipped duplex in a quiet neighborhood with easy access to highway 1 and 101, you can quickly be heading in the direction to the popular sights. Muir Woods is just 15 minutes away!!!
We really enjoyed the large window in the bedroom which provided a great view of the spectacular sunrises, and moon and stars as we fell asleep at night. It was lovely sleeping with the windows cracked listening to the tree frogs. We equally enjoyed sitting out on the awesome deck in the early evening as the sun ducked behind the mountains and night approached.
Birders from other areas will appreciate easy access to some of the best birding hot spots in the nation during migration like Point Reyes. The back deck is even a birding hot spot! We added Townsend’s Warbler, Anna’s Hummingbird, Oak Titmouse, Chestnut-backed Chickadee, and Golden-crowned Sparrow the first two days just sitting on the deck before heading out for dinner!
Loved the place, and will definitely stay here again our next visit to the area. Thanks for everything Bill!

The property is very nice. IMO even more so than the description. The views are terrific.
My one and only caution is if you have a problem with steps this may not be for you.
The owner responded quickly to my messages.
The house is comfortable and clean and decorated nicely. Highly recommended.

Bill’s place in Mill Valley is just beautiful! He has thought of every detail. His place is immaculate, close to town and so comfortable!….and did I mention the view from the deck? Great place to enjoy an evening conversation or drink or both!

We could not have asked for a better place to stay on our visit to Mill Valley. Not only was the apartment very clean and organized, it was within walking distance to family. There was an amazing view that we took advantage of, too. This location is close to the things we love to do (biking, hiking, Muir & Stinson Beaches, Point Reyes, restaurants & shopping). And not far away are great outdoor places to explore. Bill was extremely helpful and responsive. We hope to stay here again on our next visit to CA.

This was a perfect location for working remotely while visiting the area. Wine country is less than an hour away. Muir Woods is a 15 minute drive over the hill. We took the bus/ferry to San Francisco and left our car at home. Oakland is about 30 minutes depending on traffic. Walkable to great coffee shops and restaurants.
WiFi is fast and my wife and I both worked remotely with no issues. I worked on the balcony with a great view of the bay while deer foraged nearby. I saw a bobcat on my walk back from the coffee shop. Very peaceful setting. Owners are great. Highly recommended.

The hosts provided everything we needed for our month long stay.
Great towels, comfortable bed, blackout curtains in the bedroom, pretty complete kitchen items for us, maps, books, dvds, cd’s, many clothes hangers, coffee bean grinder, some spices. Even a handmade fan in case smoke detector goes off. Bathroom had a separate heater. Good washing machine and dryer.
Fantastic view of the bay at night. Could hear fog horns late at night if there was a marine layer.
Location met our needs for different hiking, taking the bus into San Francisco, driving north. My husband & I both would stay there again if in the area.

We spent a week at Bill’s place and it was perfect for our needs. Close enough to the major freeways but in a private area in the hills. It was also the cleanest VRBO we had ever stayed in with everything we needed. We hope to visit again. Thank you, Bill.

Perfect stay for us.
One thing we weren’t aware of ….45 stairs to get up to property. If you're challenged in that regard maybe not be a good spot for you.

We loved our stay at this small, very comfortable apartment that has everything you could want-a peaceful, naturalistic setting on a hill with a view of the water, very clean and well appointed spaces with small kitchen, easy proximity to the city of San Francisco, and lots of great hiking trails nearby.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Bill's property and would recommend it to anyone wanting to be in the heart of Mill Valley and Sausalito. My wife and I stayed for 3 weeks and found the property to be even better than the pictures! The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed and the bed was super comfy too. Bill was an attentive host that respected our privacy while responding promptly to any questions that we had. We enjoyed having lunch on the deck in the sunshine overlooking the garden and views of the Bay area. The on site laundry was great for the longer stay.

This property was all it stated. The location gave us access to many sites. The house it shelf was immaculate and well furnished. My husband and i were there over 35 days and were comfortable. I can not say enough about the owners, Bill and Terry. They were very attentive to any of our needs. This was close to my two sons and we would not hesitate to return when visiting our children again. Superb ratings for this property. Thanks Bill and Terry

We enjoyed our return visit to Bill & Terry's spacious hillside retreat in Mill Valley. They are gracious hosts who maintain a meticulously tended , well equipped property with everything their guests might need, and are at the ready to help. In this instance Terry printed some documents for me. Waking up to that gorgeous view as in the photo was a real treat! All the 5* ratings are well deserved!

Very well maintained and supplied rental. Comfortable, good lighting and spacious.

This was great for a low-key getaway for my husband and me. Built into a hill in a quiet neighborhood, Bill's property offered scenic views as well as private serenity, thanks to the well-tended landscaping throughout. The kitchen was small, but just right for the amount of cooking we wanted to do for the week. Bill also provides helpful tips for exploring and navigating the area, which was helpful since the property is so centrally located to access points for Muir Woods, Mount Tam, and Stinson Beach.
We've been to the Bay Area many times, but this was our first time staying in the North Bay. It was great to be so close to hiking, nature, and SF but still be able to enjoy open windows at night because it was so peaceful. Bill and Terry were friendly, lovely hosts, and we would love to return!

Magical tree house
Bill and Terry make their home the perfect retreat. Every attention to detail is in place to make our stay comfortable. It’s our second stay here and we will be back again & again. Parking, laundry & easy access to SF, Sausalito, Sonoma, & cute downtown Mill Valley. We loved sitting on the deck & waking up to the incredible view. I wish we could just move in here!

Best of Both Worlds
Whenever I’m in San Francisco, I’m torn between staying in the city or outside of it. My partner and I both love hiking, but we also love sightseeing and are big foodies. The location of this stay allowed us to get the best of both, given that it’s only a 10-15 minute drive across the Golden Gate to get to the city, and it’s just a hop to get to Muir Woods, Tennessee Beach, Mt. Tam, and Sausalito. It’s even walking distance to some good coffee and great fish tacos (oh, and a drug store). We felt that an additional benefit of staying here was that it’s safer and quieter than the city. I just don’t think you can go wrong here, particularly if you have a rental car. The place is neat and clean, has everything you could need, and even more (e.g., washer and dryer, huge smart TV). Also a note for those working while traveling: there’s plenty of space for that too and the Wi-Fi kept up well enough. Finally, there’s Bill. What a gracious man. He is highly communicative and so so nice. He even messaged us afterward that he had found an airpod we were sure we lost. So I can also say he saved me about $150. ;) Thanks!
