About this house rental
Best of everything: We are located on the back side of Farm Pond, which overlooks Harthaven, Nantucket Sound, and Chappaquiddick beyond. Window air-conditioners in each room. House is quiet and private, but an easy walk to playgrounds, town, beach, fishing, shopping, bowling, bike paths. OB Arts district is nearby, as is a deli/ wine store, and great soul food restaurant.
Head out the door to bike paths and hiking trails, or paddle to great fishing across the pond.
Huge wrap-around porch/deck, big yard, hammock, use of canoe/kayak (row across the pond to the beach and a great fishing spot). Four bedrooms, all with water views, great mattresses and bedding, high cathedral ceilings. Nice napping spot in downstairs double daybed cubby; basement playroom is rustic but has painted floors and walls and enclosed ceiling with a pullout queen bed and dance floor/lights. Great place for teenagers to hang out.
House is a beachy cottage with painted wood floors, beaded board walls and ceiling rafters but also has all modern conveniences: w/d, kitchen with brand new KitchenAid gas range and lots of counter space. Two full baths plus huge outdoor shower. Nice big laundry/mud room for storing stuff out of the way.

We were so happy with the location in OB and the view from that porch was just mesmerizing, I think we could have just sat right there the entire time and been happy. The nooks and crannies of the house...so incredible. We definitely would stay again.

This place was very clean and within walking distance to all the restaurants in Oak Bluffs. The pond is excellent for kayaking on. Modern appliances including washer/dryer and a very responsive host.

located on pond with the ocean just beyond the pond. The location was absolutely perfect. We easily walked to inkwell Beach. The wrap around porch was so relaxing. The house itself had a lot of charm & character. My suggestion would be to to upgrade the bed linens. I had wished the beach chairs were better quality and more of them. We had 6 people in our party and there was only 2 beach chairs that we could use. The cushions & porch furniture need an upgrade as well.
Overall a cute place to spend the weekend on the Vineyard.

We had an amazing stay at this lovely beach house in Oak Bluffs. The location was absolutely perfect – just a short walk to the beach, the town, and a fantastic playground for the kids. The house itself was incredibly comfortable, with everything we needed for a relaxing vacation.
The beautiful porch was definitely a highlight, offering a great spot to unwind and enjoy the beautiful view of the pond. Jamie was wonderful – flexible, accommodating, generous and beyond helpful. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay and highly recommend this property! We'll definitely be back!

My sisters and I recently stayed at this house. It provided great accommodations. We enjoyed our morning coffee and evening wine on the porch, while taking in the beautiful view, birds, and weather. We could walk to town. What made this visit even more special was the friendly and informative host. She provided so much information on the history and operations of the house and places to visit and eat. We felt like we had a personal concierge. She was quick to respond to questions. It was one of my better rental experiences!

Unique home with nice porch
This is a unique home In a very pretty spot. Sitting on the porch with a view of the pond and ocean beyond is a high point. I would not recommend going here with infants or young children given many stairs and dank basement
The host was extremely responsive.

Quirky comfortable home in Oak Bluffs
Stayed for a week in this home which was perfectly adequate for our needs but with a few tweaks would be perfect.

Lovely spot!
Really an idyllic location with a wonderful porch, plenty of room and features and the perfect island vibe! Not a new house but exactly what you want for a quiet vacation with time to think, relax and wander. Close to the action but not IN it. Highly recommend.

Amazing view!
Sitting on the front porch with coffee and watching the pond is pretty incredible. The location is perfect-- quiet but close enough to town for kids to walk to arcade. Jamie is an incredible host and very responsive. The house is an older cottage-- lots of space for everyone but expect smaller bedrooms and bathrooms. The kitchen is very well-equipped and the living room was very comfortable for watching a movie with the family.

Storybook house and setting
Two favorites: savouring constant breezes on front porch overlooking two bodies of water, and lying in master bed in treehouse-like setting watching the motion of leaves outside the screened door. Heavenly.

Oak Bluffs Memorial Day weekend.
We had terrible weather and a great time. It was great walking around Oak Bluffs and just being out and the house provided great views of the pond and ocean. It was also close enough to town that we could walk in easily, but far enough away that when we were there, we had a lot of privacy.

Beautiful Views
The home has beautiful views and lots of character. Our kids deemed it a Harry Potter house with the trap door in one room. Taking outdoor showers was a delight. Listing was accurate and the host was responsive for any questions. Location was close enough to downtown Oakbluffs to walk but far enough to not hear nightlife. Would definitely recommend!

Heavenly porch
Never really thought about staying in OB because it’s such in the thick of things, but I have never been more relaxed on the Vineyard. The owner was attentive and responsive. The property is quite wonderful and peaceful. We will be back!

Love this spot!
This is quintessential OB! The location is incredible with sea breezes on the shady front porch. The beds are comfy and the outdoor shower is great. Jamie - the landlord is incredible to work with and truly cares about your stay.

great property
Ye, it is a quirky place and yes, it does have bedrooms that connect to other bedrooms, but it is a great location and really an amazing view. Drinks and appetizers on the porch cannot be beat and so close to town and Inkwell beach that it is well worth it. We had 7 people in the house plus two dogs and it accommodated our needs excellently. Kitchen is well stocked and we had a ball. Jamie is a great hostess. I found the hole experience heavenly!!!

Great location beautiful views and the 9 adults in our family.
The location was great. We were able to walk into oak bluffs for dinner, the ferries, and any other activities. Easy access to the bike trail too. The house had 4 bedrooms up stairs that easily fit 8 of us adults and one slept in a reading nook on the first floor. Kitchen had everything needed, and the wrap around porch was great to relax on and possessed a wonderful view of the pond and beyond that, the ocean. Outdoor shower was nice even on cooler evenings. We wouldn’t hesitate for a moment to stay here again if we come out to MV with our family or friends.

Dirty, damp, and dangerous
Our stay on Martha’s Vineyard was a family get-away to celebrate my husband’s retirement. Extremely disappointed! The property is advertised as a large home with occupancy for up to 10 people. False! Only two rooms had air conditioning and mattressed beds. Other two tiny bedrooms had stained futon pads as beds. The unfinished basement was included as a bedroom but the mattress pad was on the damp cement floor surrounded by boxes, cobwebs and debris. It was evident that the house had not been deep cleaned in a very long time as layers of dust covered lampshades, curtains, and the multitude of Knick knacks. There were numerous areas of disrepair: windows didn’t close and had holes, doorknobs fell off, tv remotes needed batteries, window shades and furniture cushions were stained, torn, and frayed. The most disturbing of all was at the end of our trip, we had a smoke detector alarm go off. We notified the owner of this fact at once. Looking around the house, we saw that ALL the smoke detectors had been disconnected! I paid a lot for this vacation celebration and realized it could have been a tragedy. Do not stay here. The pictures do not reveal the true nature of this home. Although the view from the porch is true to the pictures, the rest of the home and it’s furnishings needs to be cleaned out and started from scratch. It is evident the owner has not been in the home in a very long time and is using this property to cash in on the Vineyard tourist trade. I feel as if my family was put in harms way and I was duped by this property owner and VRBO. I don’t understand why there are no other reviews that reveal this home’s true appearance and lack of upkeep.

Relaxation get away
My family of 4 enjoyed this quiet neighborhood with peaceful, relaxing views, walk to beach and center of oaks bluff, comfortable beds and wrap around porch.
It was our first time on the island and Jamie was so attentive, she had many pages of any questions we may come across, not only about the house but the surrounding island-places to visit, eat and things to do.
We used the bike shop she suggested and had bikes dilevered and picked up right at the house.
The house is fully stocked but with older kids we really only used the house to return at night and have a quick bite in the am before heading out again.
I recommend this property for others.

Big, rambling 19th century house right on Farm Pond!
We loved our stay this year at Jamie's house! What a charming, and comfortable home. We had two families the first part of the week and no one felt on top of each other. The big wrap around porch is lovely with its breezes! We were even able to watch the Edgartown fireworks from the porch!
The location is perfect for a family with teens like ours--all the kids could bike or walk over to Circuit Ave for some needed independence. And if you have young kids it's great because there is a yard for them to play in. We loved our stay and hope to be back!

Heartwarming Vacation!
First time to Martha's Vineyard with my husband and this home was perfect! The back deck was a morning breakfast and Happy Hour retreat! Our adult children joined us for the last 3 days and fell in love with it too. Jamie was on duty answering all of my questions on where to get the best coffee to where to hike, bike, dine and sight see. We chose to rent bikes for a week and walk, taking Uber a few times to restaurants and it was a fantastic break from life. We highly recommend this endearing home which feels like you are in the country and a 10 minute walk/4 minute bike ride from all the action and dining.

An idyllic spot
This is a truly idyllic spot - it couldn't have been better. We spent a week here and never tired of the views. The house is quirky (which I loved) as only an historic place can be. You'll never want to leave the front porch! Jamie made us feel very welcome - we wanted for nothing!

Great house, Perfect Location!
Had a friends weekend here over Memorial Day Weekend. There were 8 of us, and the place felt like it could have fit more. The house is so broken up that if feels huge (I think it was originally two houses that were combined). The outdoor shower was a great amenity. The location is close to the ocean and right on a small lake which was perfect. It was also good to be close to the downtown but not in the neighborhoods that have houses too close together. It was about 10 minute walk to the restaurants and bars. Jamie the owner gave us very detailed instructions for the house, use of his kayaks, and tons of recommendations for things to do on the island. He was very responsive to make booking easy. Nobody wanted to leave and I hope we can make it back sometime.
Thanks!!!

Rest + Relaxation
If you're looking for a slice of peaceful heaven, then Jamie's house is just the place to hang your hat. Jamie's house has a covered large porch, which overlooks Farm Pond, and Nantucket Sound beyond, where we sip our coffee and read the paper in the morning in total peace and quiet. In the afternoon, we might stroll down to Nancy's and have ourselves a lobster roll for lunch. There aren't many homes on MV in such a quiet location where you can also easily walk to restaurants, beaches, etc. And there are also lots of places to sleep for those unexpected guests who will surely drop by once they hear you're on the island! Book now before it's too late!

Hidden Gem!
Jamie's house in Hearthaven Oak Bluffs is a true hidden gem. The location is perfect with it being a very close walk to the restaurant's and entertainment on Circuit Ave while still offering true peaceful seclusion over looking Farm Pond and Nantucket Sound. The house has an enormous wrap-around porch for lounging and hanging out on while the kids play in the large yard. There are kayaks and a canoe you can use, which we usually use to get across the pond to the beach just across Seaview drive. The beach there has an unusual collection of shells which the kids love. The interior of the home is beach rustic and super comfortable. We typically light a fire and lounge in the large living room with the windows and doors open to enjoy the beach breeze. There is plenty of room for everyone and the house sleeps a large group comfortably. Jamie lives on island and is great with helping with advice on things to do or help finding a baby sitter if you are in need of a night out without the kids. This will be our 4th consecutive year coming back to the house and it always feels like home the moment we arrive. Do yourself a favor and check this place out!

Quirky old charmer, perfect for some groups, maybe not for others
This is a quirky old Cape Cod house, very cool architecture and neighborhood, and perfect for certain groups, perhaps less so for others. The views are to die for, across a salt marsh to the Atlantic. The wrap-around porch is fabulous, and there's a great dinner seating area for 10 or 12 people. The house itself is a charmer, I'm guessing two older houses cobbled together. It's a pleasant 15 minute walk to Oak Bluffs downtown, and only 5 or 6 minutes to some swimmable beaches.
It's probably perfect for two couples and several children. But be aware that it's really a 3-BR, with extra sleeping areas. The futon outside one bedroom, the day bed in the dining room, and the cellar room are fine to park some kids in, or if a visitor misses the last ferry, and needs a place to crash, but they are not suitable "bedrooms" for grown-ups. You can sleep 12, yes, but only 6 of those 12 will be in a pleasant bedroom, and all six of those must be willing to share a full-sized bed.
That being said, if your group matches that criterion, it's a fun funky place, with a great deal of charm.
I also liked the pay-it-forward VRBO style, where the spice cabinet was full, and there was olive oil, and some butter in the fridge, etc. I can't stand VRBOs where you have to hit the market for oil or salt or filters just to fry an egg or brew some coffee. There were beers in the fridge when we arrived, we left behind some wine and rum, everybody's happy.
It is a bit of a schlep from the ferry, so if you've got luggage and are older, you might want to hail a cab. There is also a market with liquor and a rib joint (over-rated and over-priced, but hey, you're stuck on an island) on the far side of the property, slightly closer than Oak Bluffs downtown, so if you're feeling lazy, you can find some victuals and grog with a 9 or 10 minute walk rather than a 16 or 18 minute walk.
It's a cool house, but be aware that the sleeping arrangements require some flexibility.

Just love this house!
My family has stayed here four summers in a row. Between kids, friends, and parents, we never know quite how many people will be with us, but always find the perfect room for everybody of all ages. It's a peaceful, beautiful, and quiet setting, yet we can walk to town in minutes for food, entertainment, and fun. We use the kayak in the pond (and brought a stand up paddle board this year). Being so close to the bike path is a huge plus, and after our busy, busy, days - there's nothing better than relaxing on the porch with a view of the water. Barry and Jamie live on the island, and are available/responsive if we ever need anything (which is very rare). The kitchen has everything we need, linens/towels are abundant, and the outdoor shower is delightful. We have been coming to MV for many years, and this house has been our favorite by far!

This is the place!
For anyone looking for a wonderful week or two or three on the Vineyard, this is the place to stay. Jamie and Barry's home is truly special. With its deep history of being built from two historic structures--an old Tea Room and a Cottage house from the mid-1800's--this unique and extremely comfortable home is a special "heart"haven located in the back door to active Oak Bluffs center. Overlooking Farm Pond to the endless ocean, the wrap around porch is a relaxing place to hang out with a cocktail or three while the dogs lay by your side. Friendly neighbors, such as Vineyard's own Alison Shaw, are eager to make you feel at home and offer their local knowledge of the best of the Island's many activities, in this wonderful community. Go for a walk around the pond, or hop on bikes and cruise into Oak Bluffs for a relaxing dinner or night on the town with the kiddos! The dog-friendly home offers ample comfortable bedding and lounge-out spots for turning off and tuning in. The romantic fireplace throws shadows on the beautiful open living area as you crack into some local lobsters, or dig into delicious BBQ from the close by Smoke N' Bones. An awesome collection of books adorns an entire wall above the daybed that invites one to just take a load off and chill out (I recommend the Rolling Stone Interviews compiled by the legendary Jann Wenner). There is a very big inviting yard that is always freshly mowed (thanks Barry!) where the kids love to run and play. An huge outdoor shower completes the outside amenities in Vineyard style. All in all, I can't say enough about this place, and I have stayed all over the island with my wife and two active boys (Chilmark, Upper and Lower Makonikey, Edgartown, Vineyard Haven, you name it!). We were lucky to stumble upon this home and will be coming back for years to come. Thanks Jamie and Barry for opening your home to us and allowing us to make great family memories in lovely Hearthaven!

Second time around even better than the first!
Hi Jamie and family
We just wanted to follow up with you and let you know that our stay in your home was wonderful!! Even better second time around. My son slept wonderfully (yay!) in his pack and play in one of the rooms in the back, behind the futon room. He is very interested in a big boy bed because of the bed that was in that room. Although he did not sleep in it, he felt as though that was his room and his bed. Our favorite place to eat in Oak Bluffs is the Offshore Ale Co, we have been going there for at least 5 years. This year we went to the playground up a few roads from the house. What a blessing that was to have!!! We would let Lucas run off some steam before we would make him sit in a restaurant or a long car ride to Menemsha or just touring around the beautiful island. We go to the beach in Edgartown, with the light house because we do bring Franky and I feel as though its pet friendly and while we were there my son said "MommyDaddy I love our new house" that moment was priceless to us. Franky was even better second time around- totally felt comfortable in his surroundings. The daytime was pretty warm, but the night time was pretty cool which was really nice! Hopefully next year we can make it back and do something right after memorial day, its just a little cooler during the day for our beloved Franky! I wouldn't even be opposed to locking down a date and giving you a deposit.
We really appreciate you having us as a guest in your home!! I like to think that we try to leave it as if it was ours and take care of it as if it was ours while we are there.
Thank you again,
Gifford Family

Just a perfect getaway for a quiet weekend on the Vineyard
Stayed here with a large group (8 adults, 2 children) in an off-season weekend in early May. The house has great charm, old world touches and tastes, and worked well for both group meals and alone time. The setting is beautiful -- can't beat the views! The location is very convenient... especially if walking to Back Door Donuts at night interests you! If you're staying in a colder season, I'd make sure you plan on all staying in the house, and being comfortable in closer quarters with each other. If you're staying in warmer weather, the writers studio or nanny suite would be great additions to your sleeping plans. We would definitely stay there again.

Wonderful house!
This is a charming and fun house. Very kid-friendly and comfortable. Great location - walking distance to town, beaches, and bike path. The neighborhood was perfect for my kids' scooters. We loved the water views! We're really looking forward to a return trip.

Wonderful location & great owners to work with!
I almost hate to write this review, because I would prefer to keep this place all to ourselves for future use! Charm is the best word to describe this wonderful place. It has ALL the comforts of home, but yet the charm to tell you that you are on vacation in one of the most peacful settings on earth. Until you experience an outdoor shower you have not lived. The canoe/kayaks made the days seem like they flew by because you could not wait to get back out onto Farm Pond. The house is so close to town that you almost don't need a car.
The owners are so helpful in not only giving you wonderful writtten instructions/recommendations/pointers, but you could also reach them via email to ask about anything that comes up.
This was our first stay, but definitely not our last. We will be trying to make this a yearly retreat!
Thank you!
