Celebrating a birthday. Winery visits were fun. Not a lot of restaurants but plenty of options at the wineries for a light meal. Beautiful property. Lots of deer wild turkeys and other wildlife. House was very nice. 4th bedroom is down stairs. It’s basically in the garage but overall it’s a great place to stay.

Lovely space that was clean and had plenty of bedrooms for our group to spread out! Beautiful property, very serine and relaxing. I didn’t realize there wasn’t WiFi until last minute which was my fault and I probably should’ve printed out our check in information before we lost service. Otherwise it was great to disconnect and be off grid for a few days (there is service just down the road so it is still easy to get to other places). My only other complaint was that we couldn’t figure out how to turn on some of the light fixtures (specifically the big overhead light in the living room but there was plenty of other lighting to supplement). The kitchen and grill worked great for us and was well stocked with everything we needed!

The home was amazing and clean and comfortable. Had everything you would need. Only complaint would be poor cell reception. Other than that we loved it.

Firefly Valley Resort is a wonderful place to stay on the Shawnee Wine Trail.

The property is beautiful, note there is a small swampy pond not pictured. Could use some minor maintenance - the lights/fans in first floor bedrooms not working, and perhaps label all switches so guests know which switch turns on what. The upstairs bedroom was difficult to keep cool and the daily high was only 80. Confusion about this being a place to have our small ceremony - original listing posted a wedding cake on the stage (now picture taken down)then we read in rules Not to use the stage, and a large sign by the road that reads weddings, events (Firefly Valley lodge); now it list no parties-events - but as an elderly couple we moved our little wedding with a few family and friends under the trees and it was wonderful. Plenty of kitchenware, bring your own soap, extra toilet paper, paper towels and even towels as minimum is provided. Great views, would be nice for hikers/winers as in perfect location in the beautiful Shawnee Forest wine country.

Had a great time at the house. Had all the necessities we needed. Arrived after dark and was unable to find the key pad to unlock the house. We did call the owner and found out that it was on the back door. The dishwasher did not work and outside lighting was not nearly enough. I didn’t realize how dark it could be. Had several lady bugs in the upstairs bedroom. The kitchen chairs were wobbly. I realize these were very trivial issues so overall the stay was enjoyable.

We stayed here with our extended family (10 adults and 2 kids) for a weekend getaway. Everything was great and the hosts were easy to communicate with. We really enjoyed the location and its proximity to two of our favorite wineries.

This is our second year staying here, and we just love it for our family! It is very comfortable, the location is perfect and communication was quick. We will be back next year!

The house was great and clean. The Wi-Fi is the only complaint no service out there. Other than that it was a perfect weekend.

Loved the place thanks for everything! Would highly recommend.

Cabin was nice. The air conditioner had a hard time keeping up with the 100+ temperature. We had no cell service at the cabin. That was troublesome when trying to navigate or find a restaurant. Really did unplug for the weekend.

When we arrived, there was NO toilet paper in the main bathroom.!!!! According to info & instructions left for the rental when WE ARRIVED—they supply 1 roll of toilet paper per bathroom (2), 1 roll of paper towels, 1 bath towel & 1 washcloth per person.—-that information would’ve been VERY USEFUL in advance. Also no kitchen towels, no hot pads, but we did find a kitchen dishcloth in with the washcloths. It is listed that the couch in living rm & basement were fold out—but we were unable to find sheets or blankets for these. Unit did have extra bed pillows, but no pillow cases. I HAD DONE A LOT OF SEARCHING FOR A VRBO THAT WAS ADA ACCESSIBLE—-so was extremely disappointed when we arrived & the WALK IN shower was located in the UPPER loft —that would require you to climb over 15 steps.!!! It would’ve also have been nice to have a bedside table with lamp, next to the beds. ( beds were very comfortable), It is a great laid back place, but would’ve not rented due to the walk in shower location.

No Wifi, which is listed. At least with Verizon, almost no cell phone coverage. So if disconnecting with outside world is part of your intent, then perfect.

Very nice cabin, perfect space for a 3 night getaway with our friends. Beautiful land that surrounds the cabin, love the nature! We all enjoy visiting the wineries, this was a great location and would definitely come back!

This was the perfect place for our family for a weekend of hiking and wineries. Communication was wonderful from the beginning. The house was perfect for my husband and I and our two kids and their spouses, and 9 month old granddaughter. Everything we needed was there and felt like home! Thank you so much!

Our 2nd time staying here, overall nice setup, very peaceful, needs a little TLC, but would stay here again.

All was great! However, we wish there were lights on both inside and outside when we arrived. It was extremely dark at 10:00. We noticed we did not have cell service the whole trip. It was a beautiful location and the cabin was extremely clean.

This property was stunning! The back decks and fire pit made for relaxing evenings!

We stayed here for our annual girls trip, and I loved the site. It's a beautiful location & perfectly situated for a winery tour. We did have a few small issues, like the beds not being terribly comfortable & we never did figure out how to get the keurig to work, but overall we had a good time. That's the important thing! I just wish it had been a little warmer so we could have enjoyed the outdoor space a little more.

THE BOOKING
Host was very responsive most of the time. 1 or 2 delays.
Had to sign a second contract and provide a credit card number directly to the host in email (not through VRBO). No other host has ever done this. My guess is they have a lot of drunk weddings trashing the house. Emailing credit card numbers isn't ideal in this credit fraud age (no way to confirm they destroy the records). Also the second contract contradicts the VRBO contract. Mostly small things, but it does mention a refundable security deposit, there is no such refund. I did contact VRBO about the required contract and credit card required outside vrbo.com they not very helpful and basically said the hosts can require whatever they want. For a "Premier Host" they were not very knowledgeable about the damage deposit refund and process.
THE HOUSE
Tons of firefly's at night ( no pics of this in the posting), dark peaceful land. Fields were tall when we visited so if you plan to use the acreages do call ahead to see if they will be cut.
It is a very nice property, but the house is beat up. Loose faucets, broken toilet paper holder, dented fridge, nicks and scratches through out. Smelled like paint when we got there too, thankfully it dissipated quickly. The grill was full of grease and caught fire. Had to clean it to use it. The picture on the site seem to be years old when paint and stain was fresh. House definitely looks aged compared to posting. One bedroom didn't have a tv. Front door did not operate smoothly, could use some oil or attention. House seems a bit neglected. I suppose if I had partiers beating it up, I'd do the same. Oh yeah there was a shirt under the downstairs bed.

Came for fall foliage and wine trail was a great bonus.
House was clean , well equipped , nice quiet location surrounded by trees and within a few miles of Shawnee wine trail .
Used the fire pit (bring wood)in evening to enjoy the stars and the beautiful surrounding.
Huge deck for entertaining.
Hope to rent again next year when trees have little more color .

The location was peaceful and gorgeous, centrally located to many venues of interest The house is really nice and comfortable and fully stocked with dishes and utensils. There were a few glitches, dishwasher not working, but we communicated with the owners right away. We would definitely stay again.

Great place to stay when visiting the Shawnee Wine Trail. Off the beaten path, but closest to our favorite wineries on the trail. Owners were always easy to get in contact with to answer all my questions. Highly recommend staying here.

A bit on he back roads , but that's why its nice and quite . Before you get to close to the property , make sure you have the access code . I had no cell service and no code when I got to property . I had to drive a ways to try to contact owner for code , he had never sent it , it was now 40 mins. after check in time . If you plan on a fire outdoors, make sure you bring your own wood .

The property was well maintained. Beds comfortable!! Excellent views. Loved seeing the wild life!! We all just loved the cozy atmosphere and the friendliness of the owners.

The location is remote and excellent. Beautiful grounds both open fields and wooded, with wildlife. We saw a few deer with a fawn and a ground hog and baby bunny hanging around. The frog pond was awesome, yet the frogs were not noisy at all in the evening (unexpected!). A hooting owl woke me the first night but I got the box fan out of my closet and ran it to drown it out.
We lunched once at the winery/restaurant a few miles north, which was a nice experience and very affordable. Both must see state parks are within 20 minutes. One day we road tripped a ~130 mile loop out to Garden of the Gods, Pounds Hollow and Cave in Rock for some rather easy hikes. Rain was forecast all three days of our stay but we got lucky it never rained while we were hiking and only a few light showers otherwise. There is also more challenging hiking nearby (Little Grand Canyon, Bell Smith Springs) but we are getting a bit too old for that.
House was clean and well stocked, beds were comfortable. The basement bedroom had just a bit of an odor, my brother preferred to sleep upstairs on the couch instead, which he found quite comfortable. The gas grill worked fine but it is getting to be on its last legs (the bottom is rusting through).
If you want to use the fire pit you may need to bring firewood (some shops in the area sell bundles) but also don't forget to bring some newspaper along and/or lighter fluid. We forgot to bring anything - we wanted to do a weenie roast for a lunch.
All in all a great experience. We've been doing a family reunion/getaway like this once a year this was our fifth one. So far every place has been really good. Sure beats motels.

Nice, secluded house in southern Illinois. Very clean and comfortable residence.

Our trip down to Shawnee was for a mother/daughters getaway. There were five of us staying in the cabin and we honestly had plenty of space! The property itself and its location were wonderful. The views, especially in the evening were breath taking! That all being said, there were just a few upkeep items that would have made our stay 5 stars. The outdoor furniture and grill are very “weathered”. The grill was rusted through as well as most the outdoor furniture. The lights around the deck only had about half the bulbs that were working so once it got dark out, you had to move inside or to the fire pit- although firewood is not guaranteed. It was advertised that all bedrooms have TVs, but in fact only one of the bedrooms actually had one. The upstairs bedroom window was open when we arrived, which was nice until we wanted to close it and found the lever was broken and we couldn’t actually close it. One of the bedrooms didn’t have a door knob on the door and another didn’t have a comforter. (All that was on it was a flat sheet) Lastly, there is no WiFi and very limited service once on the property, which in this day in age would be a nice amenity to have.
Overall however, we had a great time.

The cabin was nice and clean. The bedroom setup works well for a large group. The outdoor deck and fire pit were great. We saw several deer each day which thrilled our grandkids.

We greatly enjoyed our stay at the lodge! There was plenty of room and the reservation/check-in process was easy. Great for a peaceful weekend getaway and located well to visit sites on the Wine Trail and Shawnee National Forest. Will be requesting again if we're back in the area!

We rented Firefly Valley Lodge for the weekend of my son's wedding at Blue Sky. It was the idea location close to the winery. Lovely Cabin with 4 nice bedrooms gave everyone plenty of room. Kitchen and bathrooms were clean and supplied everything needed and more. Owners responded quickly to any questions. Thanks to Matt and Corene for sharing your cabin with us on this very special occasion!.
3.0
Overall the stay was a good experience. However that said the property owner needs to do some upkeep on the property.
Lighting in overhead main room was burn out leaving the main seating area dim at night. Stairway light was also burnt out. Gas grill does not have a cover as noted in owners material and the igniter does not work. We didn't have a lighter and couldn't find one so the grill wasn't usable. Also the entire bottom of the grill is rusted completely out which is a big safety hazard should burning grease drip down it would be onto the propane tank and rubber hose. Also with no lighter couldn't use the fire pit. Metal deck chairs were comfortable to sit in however the paint is peeling off and sticks to your skin. The vent shroud inside the microwave door is broken loose and drops forward whenever the microwave door is opened. Lower shelf front in refrigerator was broken and hangs down into the bottom drawer.
Also, the number of place settings, coffee cups and silver ware is low compared to the number of people this property is listed to accommodate.
Other suggestions, a house number sign at the end of the drive would be nice for identifying the property when arriving. The property sign is set back from the road and not very visible when coming in from the interstate direction.

The setting was nice and home was nice. However, the dishwasher was broken (owner told us but there was 1/4" of dish soap to do dishes) Only 1 trash bag, the hideaway couch was dirty and had cereal in it and we did not use it. A lot of other small noticeable things. I believe the owner or housekeeping needs to pay closer details for their guests.
4.0
The house was very clean when we arrived and the kitchen was very workable for us to cook in. The views from the back deck were amazing and the weather was great for sitting outside. Since the property is large, it's both quiet and private which is what we were looking for. Only thing that I would improve is that the couches in the living room could use some updating, they were well used. The beds were extremely comfortable.

We absolutely loved this place. We came down to do the Shawnee Wine Trail. There were 3 wineries, Blue Sky, Feather Hills, Starview all within a few miles. Perfect location for anyone doing the Wine Trail. It was also minutes away from the Shawnee Canopy Tours. We had a blast doing the zip line there! The house was plenty big for the eight of us. We used the large fire pit every evening!

We really enjoyed this property. Upon arrival we entered with no issues. There were 4 bedrooms that were very nice. We started putting stuff away in the kitchen and saw that there was only 1 dish towel! Nothing to wash dishes with or dry. There were plenty of paper towels so we ended up using those. There were enough towels in bathrooms, but one or two was dirty when pulled out. Seating in the living room is not for 8 when you have 8 staying there, nor enough seating around the table to eat... but we made do. Kitchen was stocked well enough for a VRBO but had to clean some of the pots prior to using. There is a nice fire pit and insect burners on the tables outside, but no matches or lighters in the house to light them. Nor any wood for the fire pit... I may have missed that in the description of the property. The bed upstairs was very noisy and they did not sleep well because the mattress/springs were loud. The mattress down stairs they said was hard... Ours was fine :) All in all a nice place and well located on the Shawnee Wine Trail. We enjoyed our visit and would recommend this property to anyone wanting to visit again. Just think if they added a few amenities it would make it excellent!!! PS. We tried fixing the front door, needs a new spring etc.
