About this house rental

Please note that there is construction going on next door to this property. Construction noises and vehicles will be heard during weekdays. Construction should not occur in the evenings or on weekends.

This beautiful home located downtown on Main Street, Blowing Rock, combines the charm of a historic home with comfortable modern amenities such as central AC within easy distance to all Main Street shops, restaurants, and attractions.

Originally built in the early 1900s, this Mission-style bungalow with a large front yard was once one of many lining the main road through old Blowing Rock. Now this lovely Arts & Crafts home is one of very few remaining, and great care was taken in the restoration of this beautiful home. The inside features original pine wood floors, walls made of antique wormy chestnut, and old-fashioned wind-catcher windows made of wavy glass.

Step through the back door of the home into the kitchen which is equipped with all the modern appliances and stocked with every gadget you may need. The floor has a beautiful faux rug, hand painted by the owner-artist, and the walls have dried flowers embedded in the stucco, all lending warmth to the room. There is a table with three chairs in the kitchen, and just off the kitchen is a day room with an additional round table for four more chairs under a beautiful Tiffany light fixture. A twin bed with a high-quality mattress lines one wall where guests can lounge with a book or curl up for a nap. This room also has an antique book cabinet with a selection of board games, and adorning the wall is one of the earliest known pictures of The Blowing Rock attraction.

Off the day room is the master bedroom suite. This room was added later, around the 1950s, and this room features a queen bed in a frame custom made of quarter-sawn oak wood, a flat screen TV, a bedside table handmade by the owner-artistr, and a private bath with a tub/shower.

On the other side of the kitchen is a door to the original bathroom of the home. Carefully restored to be just as it was in the early 1900s, this room has a claw foot bathtub (no shower), a sink with individual spigots for hot and cold water, an original glass towel rod, and a toilet with a pull chain to flush.

Enter the living room from the bathroom or dayroom. This warm, welcoming room is dominated by a floor-to-ceiling gas-log fireplace made of free-stacked stone quarried from nearby Grandfather Mountain. The leather furnishings surround the fireplace and its neighboring 32-inch flatscreen TV. Also here are a DVD player, 5-disc CD player, and classic stereo radio. A Tiffany lamp hangs overhead, and the two exposed beams running across the ceiling have artful indirect lighting attached. The hand-woven rug covers the floor, and there are handmade afghans to snuggle up in. Also in this room is a copy of Historic & Architectural Homes of Watauga County, featuring this cottage, as well as a history of the home itself.

Upstairs are two bedrooms. The room to the left at the top of the stairs has two full beds in custom frames commissioned by a once prominent innkeeper in Blowing Rock. This bedroom has a skylight as well as a small landing with balcony overlooking the living room where children of all ages may enjoy putting on mini performances for their fellow guests.

The other bedroom has a Queen bed with an antique armoire and an exposed-beam ceiling. All three bedrooms in the home have cozy down/feather linens and comforters. Antique Norman Rockwell artwork decorate these two bedrooms. The bathroom at the end of the hall was also added in the 1950s and contains a tub/shower, an antique wash table, copper mirror lamps, and two large closets for additional storage space.

The covered front porch of the home faces Main Street. Enjoy the tranquility and peaceful views of our wonderful town from the handmade gliders as you watch people stroll by. On the back porch, you can barbeque dinner on the gas grill. And the laundry room with the washer and dryer and some yard games including croquet and Frisbee is here as well. Enjoy playing games in the large, gently sloping yard in front of the home.

The garden behind the home features a pergola and gazebo with lounging chairs, with ivy growing the posts of the gazebo. Rock walls line the edge of the garden, and an original stone path winds around the side of the house, all made of rock also quarried from Grandfather Mountain. Many traditional medicinal plants as well as savory herbs are grown here, and you are encouraged to pinch off any you need. The gardens have been featured on several Blowing Rock Garden Tours, conducted by the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce.

The home is perfectly located in downtown Blowing Rock, within walking distance to all that the town has to offer. There is ample level paved parking behind the home, so you will never need to worry about finding a parking space in the downtown area. Attractions and features include shopping, casual and upscale dining, the new Blowing Rock Art & History Museum, the Blowing Rock Stage Company, Memorial Park, public swimming pool, art galleries, Annie Cannon Gardens, and the Glen Burney hiking trail. There is even a shortcut to beautiful Bass Lake with walking trails located just behind the property. Boone and all it has to offer is just 10 minutes away, the Blue Ridge Parkway is less than one mile away, the Blowing Rock attraction, Appalachian Ski Mountain and Tweetsie Railroad are just 5 minutes away, and other ski and snow tubing and zipline resorts along with other popular outdoor recreation areas and great shopping and dining venues are just a short drive away.

You're sure to love stepping back to a simpler time where your own two feet provide all the transportation you need for relaxing living. The classically beautiful home, truly A Village Treasure, awaits for you to experience turn-of-the-century charm in our picturesque small town.

I have stayed at Suddreth Cottage before. I enjoy its older character, lovely grounds and easy walk to the middle of town. Nothing is modern in the house so if you want up to date appliances and TV/streaming entertainment - this is not the place for you. If those things are not important to you, you will likely find the cottage a charming respite

Stayed at Suddreth Cottage in Blowing rock. Cute and historic cottage. Ample space for our group of 3. Could easily have accommodated more. Kitchen well supplied. So close to all you want to do in downtown Blowing Rock and easy peasy ride to Blue Ridge Parkway for hiking or viewing the sunset. Communication good with host. We recommend this place!!

This property is advertised as a great winter rental. In just normal winter weather this is not a good property . The charm etc of the cottage is charming, the fact that it is so old and not able to retain heat is unacceptable, and strongly feel it should be listed as such. Warn ppl. I had one elderly friend who slept in his clothing for three nights. Pipes froze in kitchen, which was acceptable considering the deep freeze. Once pipes thawed, we then had virtually no hot water in any of the bathrooms. Which resulted in no showers for the last two days. Friends stayed in first floor bedroom needed to purchase an additional heat source on Sat from Tractor Supply. We put towels around the windows, taped doors, etc to try and keep the cold out. I realize the extreme cold was once in a 40 year timeframe, but the house is not fit for normal winter weather. I grew up in Vermont, not one to shy away from the cold. I would never recommend this property rental in the winter. False advertising. I’ve rented in Blowing Rock for over 20 years. This by far was the worst and most disappointing. Christmas was a total bust. Very sad.

We ended up not staying in the house. We went the first day and the house layout is not great for small kids. The staircase was a little shaky and the bedrooms opening up right to the stairs is not great for small kids. I think we would have felt differently if it were just my wife and I.
