Nothing but rave reviews from our guests after a stay at our ocean view condo. Come enjoy the amazing picturesque sunsets at Kona Makai. Your dream vacation begins the moment you arrive. You can start and end your day on the large lanai overlooking the beautiful view. Fully furnished with air conditioning in the living area as well as both bedrooms. 2 full bathrooms and you can do laundry right in the unit. We enjoy cooking as a family and enjoy all of the fresh local produce so we pride ourselves in having a well equipped kitchen for you to enjoy cooking meals as well. Updated tile floors throughout the entire unit except the bedrooms. We hope you can settle into our home away from home to enjoy a memory making vacation on the amazing Big Island.
The bedrooms are on opposite sides of the unit which provide great privacy for two couples or for families as well. Master Bedroom has a King Size super comfy bed with attached bath and large door out to the lanai so you can enjoy the sound of the ocean. The Guest Bedroom has a new Queen size bed and it's own large detached bathroom. With a wall of windows in the 2nd Bedroom the waves can soothe you to sleep. Both bedrooms have wall air conditioning units.
The Condo has been freshly updated with everything you need to make it feel like your home away from home on the Big Island! The fully-equipped kitchen is the perfect spot to enjoy the plentiful produce from the local Farmers Market, or your latest fresh “Catch of the Day” from your deep sea fishing adventures. Washer and Dryer right in the unit is a real plus.. From a blender to a pineapple cutter, meat thermometer, wine opener and more you should have all you need to prepare and enjoy a lovely meal.
Our renters love the little extras we provide like beach towels, large and small coolers, beach umbrella, kids beach tent, beach toys, beach chairs, snorkel gear, hair dryers, iron and ironing board, games for both kids and adults and family style games along with a nice collection of cool puzzles for all ages. There are dice and cards as well for relaxing evenings. You will be able to jump right into enjoying your vacation. Fresh linens on the beds and fresh towels in the bath make it easy to relax and settle in from the minute you arrive.
We start you off with all the basics from some laundry pods and dishwasher pods, dish soap, paper towels, toilet paper and bathroom soap. There are plenty of trash bags and a basket in the pantry with supplies in case a remote battery or light bulb need replacing. There are fire extinguishers and a first aid kit in the pantry as well.
When you arrive our guest binder will be on the counter. The binder has all the info you need about the property and to enjoy your trip from the wifi code to pool hours and more.
The Kona Makai Condo Community has everything you need to enjoy your Hawaiian getaway. It features an oceanfront heated pool, hot tub, lounge chairs, tennis courts, workout room, BBQ grill area and more - everything you need to enjoy the tranquil view and refreshing ocean air. It is conveniently located just 1 mile South of the heart of historic Kona near restaurants, shopping and the farmers market. The Kona Makai condos are very sought after and have many repeat guests and people who have even visited 5-15 years ago and specifically want to come back to Kona Makai for how nice the lovely grounds are kept with gorgeous plants and flowers and the perfect sunset location it offers.

We have stayed at various Kona Makai condos for 39 years and for our family of 4 adults and 2 children, this was our favorite. Great location, well appointed, no stairs, convenient parking, and close to the pool. WiFi was great - worked well at the pool. We hope to stay there again in the future.

This was a nice location with a nice little condo. 2 bed 2 bath right in the oceanfront. Enjoyed mornings on the lounge chairs on the oceanfront with some mornings spotting dolphins. Close enough to walk the 1 mile to downtown historic Kailua and central enough to drive any direction to get to North to great beaches, east to Hilo for waterfalls or south to Kona/Captain Cook for Kona coffee and great snorkeling. We found incredible tropical fruit everywhere. Jody put everything you need to know in the guest binder. She was also quickly responsive to email. The condo has everything you need in the kitchen, for the beach, and for children. My whole family enjoyed the stay! Thank you

Can't say enough great things about this wonderful property. Everything you could possibly need for your vacation is located in this condo. The best equipped kitchen we have ever had during our travels.
The condo is exactly as presented in the photos and seemed even more spacious in person. The location is very quiet and the grounds, pool and hot tub are maintained to high standards. Our favourite thing to do was watch the sunsets in the evenings listening to the waves crash in. The onsite BBQ's were very handy.
Everything you need for a day at the beach is available for use. Parking is easy and location is walkable into town if needed.
Communication with the owners was great, they are very responsive. Everything is so well laid out that we didn't even need to contact them however they did check in with us during our stay to confirm everything was going well. They are extremely accommodating and we would definitely book our stays her again in the future.

Property as advertised, on first floor, close to pool and bbq area. Nice chaise lounges available to watch the sunset. Well equipped condo. Pretty tropical views. Only recommendation is Master shower tub has cracks and needs work. (We used guest shower with second bedroom) All in all a great stay!

The building management does a great job keeping the surrounding areas lush and tropical but well maintained! Location of this condo was perfect! Pool outside the unit. The two bedrooms were great. I slept in the guest bedroom and the mattress was just right! We have stayed at other places on the island, but we will definitely be coming back to this one next time.

What an amazing location and complex with amazing pool and view with whale and dolphin watching. The gardens are spectacular. The condo is well stocked. Would be even better once the carpet in the second bedroom is replaced. Parking is sufficient but challenging for larger vehicles especially late in the day.

This was our first time to the Big Island and we weren’t sure what to expect (we usually go to Maui). It was a fantastic, but different with all of the lava rock. The condo was fantastic, well stocked. It is a quiet condo, which was great for us having a family of 5 adults. Our favorite part was to watch the sunset from the chairs right outside your door. The use of the BBQ’s were great, they were always clean. Everyone was as really friendly. The pool is very quiet so if you didn’t want a lot of activity but a lot of relaxing this is definitely the unit. The owners were fast at responding to questions. They were super accommodating when our flight was cancelled and we needed extra nights (thanks Steve!). Would recommend.

Kona Makai 601 is well appointed and well supplied. It was nice to have beach chairs, coolers, and beach towels available.
The grounds of Kona Makai are a garden paradise and the oceanfront location is perfect. Kailua town is a short, walking distance away.

We had a great stay in Kona-Makai in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. This condo is right on Ali'i Drive really close to the town and beaches and a few small shops. We enjoyed the newly renovated pool and hot tub as well as took advantage of the grills and cabana area when other family members joined us for dinner. The condo is well stocked with all of the kitchen items you could ever want. There were also beach chairs, snorkels and masks, beach towels, an umbrella, cooler, and beach mats which we enjoyed using at the beach that is about a 10 minute walk to get to. The condo is also well stocked with games, children's toys and books to enjoy by the pool or at the beach. There was plenty of room for the four of us and we thoroughly enjoyed eating breakfast with an ocean view every morning on the lanai. We had one issue with the drain for the washing machine which was handily dealt with by a couple calls and texts between us and the owner and the local maintenance manager and property manager. While it was a minor inconvenience, it did not take away from our enjoyment of the condo and our trip. We would highly recommend this property for your trip to Kailua-Kona. Thanks for the great memories!

Excellent time!
This condo is a great first floor (no climbing stairs with luggage and groceries). Near the pool for the kids and lovely balcony space with beautiful flowers and birds to watch with morning coffee. We loved that there were coolers and beach stuff so no need to rent anything. The washer and dryer in the unit was super helpful. When we had a small hiccup one quick message via the app and the owner had it taken care of. Thanks again for a great family vacation.

Great location & the best stocked vacation rental
Great place to stay. The unit was well stocked with all the kitchen gear and beach toys we needed. Plastic containers for days to store left overs and transporting day trip snacks. Blender for adult beverages. Everything was in good working order and clean. Beds were comfortable -- one firm, one soft -- pillows and linens were nice. A/c and fans kept the place cool. Owners thought of everything and provided it -- never needed to reach out because something didn't work or wasn't in a logical spot. Internet was strong enough to WFH on the patio, which is tucked behind the gardens and fully enclosed -- secure but also conveniently a corner ground floor unit. I'd recommend this place to anyone.
Kona makai: Oceanfront in a quiet, mature-landscaped complex tucked between similar larger complexes. Big sitting deck. Nice grills, pool area, and loungers. Parking is easy. Guests we met had been coming here for years. Safe and secure. Pool area locks down afterhours. I haven't seen any enforcement but the HOA has a lot of rules -- may not be great for a gaggle of children, better suited for older kids and adults.

This is a Gorgeous Property That Enhanced Our Trip!
The Kona Makai complex surrounds a beautiful tropical garden with many varieties of blooming flowers. There were sweet little birds that would eat fruit out of our hand! The garden and pool are right on the ocean and sunset viewing was spectacular. The condo itself was very comfortable for two couples, with each couple having a bedroom and bathroom. The kitchen was well-stocked with literally everything we needed, including little things like a coffee grinder, small strainer, whisk, spices, travel cups, cooler, etc., etc. The owner was readily available by phone when we had questions. We were so sad to leave this vacation paradise, but we are looking forward to planning a return trip next year. I highly recommend this property to other travelers!

Amazing location and property
This was one of the best places we have ever rented. We stayed with my family of 5 with three kids and had a blast. The location was perfect and we spent hours out on the rocks in the tide pools. The swimming pool was right there and we could watch the older kids swim from the lanai. All the provided extras such as boogie boards and cooler really helped meals the stay complete. I will be returning and recommending this place to everyone I know!!

Great unit
Great unit for a family of four. We were 2 adults and 2 kids and this unit was perfect for us. Very close to the pool, the bbq’s and the ocean. We really liked the beach chairs, umbrella, coolers and the kids toys for the beach. Wifi and cable were fantastic on our down time. Ground floor unit too that made coming home from the beach a little easier.

The condo was perfect for us two. We loved all of the items in the well-stocked kitchen. We really enjoyed the bar height lanai table which allowed us to see over the railing. The condo was so clean and decorated beautifully. We’d love to visit again. Mahalo

Sunny ocean and garden view
Easy access ground-floor 2 bed(plus pull-out sofa) unit with sunny, spacious southfacing lanai. The Kona Makai condominium complex does a great job maintaining the quite floury and varied Gardens. The pool and spa are located right along the water so you can sunbathe at the pool and also watch the wave action. The unit comes fully equipped with beach towels, 2 boogie boards, an assortment of snorkeling and flotation gear, a fully equipped kitchen, and plenty of reading material. It is very quiet at night too!
I enjoyed snorkeling right in front, as long as you are a really good swimmer and know how to use the natural surge of the ocean to pop you out onto the rocks. Management staff is friendly and conscientious towards both renters and owners, which can be a challenge at times!😉
Our four daughters also stayed with us and so we used the pull-out bed for the younger two. I would not recommend it for adults. There are ceiling fans and gentle breezes coming in from the Lanai.
Steve, the owner, was very attentive and easy to communicate via email. He was extremely helpful and accommodating when we experienced Airline flight cancellation issues at the end of our stay. A lifesaver for sure! We will definitely try to book with Steve in the future. 🌴🤙☀️

Perfect property for a family vacation
We had a wonderful stay at the property. Beautiful location with pool and ping pong for entertainment. A place with chairs to relax and view the gorgeous Kona sunsets. Perfect stay with kids.
We loved our stay! We would definitely stay here again if we brought our kids (11, 9, 6). There were 2 bedrooms, plots of beach equipment (sand toys, umbrella, 3 chairs, 2 boogie boards, multiple coolers, a few snorkeling goggles with snorkels, 4 sets of fins). There were also inside toys our kids played with often (like the play dough).
Steve was easy to communicate with and always answered my texts when I sent them. He even communicated to me before our arrival that they were working on the washer because someone’s mask clogged the drain (they finished work before we showed up).
The apartment was fairly clean, but there were some ants running around. This can be remedied if each group does their part - so if you go keep it clean.
The bathrooms were a little outdated, and the tubs didn’t drain well. Not necessarily a deal breaker, just passing information along.
Overall we loved it and would not hesitate to stay again with our 3 kids.

Family trip to Kailua-Kona
Condo was just right for grandparents, parents and a toddler. Close to pool and parking lot. Home was extraordinarily well-stocked with spices, cleaning supplies, beach gear and books and toys. Owner very responsive even after midnight his time.

Would have liked more laundry detergent on arrival or a note to buy it before going to grocery store . Otherwise everything was very nice. Still like room service at my age though :)

Overall good stay
Overall, this was a very nice stay. The location was relatively convenient. The complex had some nice amenities like a pool, grill, and lounge chairs for watching sunset. The owners provided plenty of beach accessories like towels, masks, boogie boards, etc. The one downside we found was that the condos are a bit dated and the plumbing needs some work. Specifically, the drains in both showers were very slow, and by the end of the shower, if you left the water on, you would be standing in a significant amount of water. We tried some Draino, but that didn't help. I think the plumbing just needs to be redone. Provided you can deal with the showers not draining well, it was a nice property to stay at.

Wonderful Kona Stay!
We stayed here for the first part of our time on Hawai'i and it was perfect! The unit and the grounds it's on are impeccably managed and were very clean and organized. You can hear the waves crashing from the pool / hot tub and watch incredible sunsets from your lanai or the community tables / chairs near the shoreline. The condo had everything we needed for the beach including towels, umbrella, cooler, chairs which was so helpful to have so that we didn't have to buy those things while we were there. Easy walk to one of the best coffee places on the island - Green Flash Coffee and short drive to the main strip of Kona for restaurants shops. We recommend going to the Da Shark Shack for a cocktail and On the Rocks for a sunset dinner! Hosts were very easy to communicate with and made it very easy to check in and out during our stay.

We had a bit of an issue with the unit being clean when we got there. The owners fixed this issue ASAP. It was a bit crazy at first then it all settled down. Great location, unit is beautiful. the grounds are well cared for. The gate situation is not great... to enter the code to get on the property you have to get out of the car and enter the code on the right side of the car. There is not much space for other cars to wait so it creates a huge traffic issue on Alii drive which is not safe. I had a sister stay with us who smokes and yes she did have an issue on the first day - until we figured out where the smoking area was. It is not well lit and is a bit dangerous at night. And because she smokes, the smell follows her everywhere and we were charged 200.00 because of the stench of her suit case and self. I get it..If you are a smoker - or have folks that smoke in your party stay away from this property. Its best for everyone.The property managers are always on guard and watching out for the property owners. This keeps the place safe which is great!Over all we were very happy with the unit ,,,

Amazing stay!
We just loved everything about the condo. Well stocked (tons of beach gear!), spacious, great location. After exploring the beaches, volcanoes and waterfalls during the day, we would all relax pool side in the late afternoon/evening and watch sunsets. Our first time to Hawaii and we definitely want to come back! We had our 8 and 10 year old kids with us. Very kid/family friendly building. Highly recommend Steve’s condo. Great communicator and easy to work with. Thank you!

Fabulous Holiday Home Base!
Our family of 4 absolutely loved this property as a home base for exploring the west side of the island. The girls enjoyed the pool almost everyday and we actually used the bbq down by the water most evenings and ate on the private lanai after a day at the beach. The condo was very well equipped, the beds were comfortable, and the beach gear was fabulous! We met many friendly people at the pool and watching the sunset by the bbq and felt welcomed by the community. The condo complex was quiet and close to the Green Flash for a quick morning walk for delicious Kona coffee! There was absolutely no traffic noise from Ali'i Drive and even though the condo was on the ground floor, it was quiet and private. The hosts were very responsive and attentive. We hope to stay again on our next trip to the Big Island! Mahalo!

Lovely stay
Steve and Jody were fabulous to work with. Clear, prompt responses. The housekeeping was spot on. Home was organized and well stocked. The grounds, pool, and location couldn’t be beat. The master bed was a little soft for our liking. The master bath could use updating. The second that was nice. The tile floors were nice too.

This condo was perfect to share with another couple. The bedrooms were far enough apart to provide privacy. The condo had everything we could ever need during our stay. The kitchen is fully stocked with salt, pepper, spices, nice dishes, plastic dishes, all kinds of pots and pans and silverware. The bathrooms had plenty of toiletries to get us through a weeks stay. The furniture was comfortable and we loved sitting on the lanai watching the sun rise in the morning and fishing boats go out to sea. The sun set at the condo complexes private patio area was breathtaking. We used the beach towels, umbrella and beach chair on our days exploring beaches. There is even snorkeling equipment! Jody, the owner, was very helpful and responsive and responded quickly to any questions. Yes the front door is a little tricky to unlock but just remember, 1 click to the right and 2 to the left, and your in. The slider in the front room is very heavy so be prepared to use muscle😁. We were never scolded for being out on the lanai too early or too late. The pool is clean and refreshing . There were kids having fun in the pool and seemed to have no issues with the pool rules. We would highly recommend the Kona Makai for couples. Yes, the guest room queen bed is very squeaky but our friends said it was very comfortable. Just don’t move around or you wake your partner up.
