A Cozy Early Cambria Cabin
The Bonny Cottage, one of Cambria’s original cabins, is poised high in a delightful area affectionately known as Happy Hill. Tranquil, private, surrounded by trees and gardens, it is less than a mile to the villages and to Moonstone Beach. Built in 1923, this cottage retains its original sense of charm and history, yet is thoughtfully appointed for a comfortable stay.
There are two bedrooms with wonderfully-restful beds (one king, one queen) and luxurious linens. There is a master bathroom as well as an ensuite powder room. Shampoo, conditioner and other toiletries and necessities are provided.
The peaceful, intimate living room features a gas fireplace and french doors that open to the sunlight (or starlight), with ocean views beyond. You will find a wide selection of books, as well as two cable TVs and a DVD player. We should mention that the decor changes to celebrate the seasons: autumn, winter, spring and summer, each in its turn.
There is a fully-stocked kitchen complete with glassware, dishes, cookware, and basic pantry supplies. Depending on the weather and your mood, there are also options for outdoor grilling and dining.
After spending your days exploring all that Cambria and California’s central coast have to offer, come home to read under the massive old oak, enjoy a glass of wine or a cup of tea in the gardens, watch the ocean change colors on the sunny deck or sit by the fire at night and listen to the waves...

We settled in for a 5 night stay. We loved it every day even more. It may take some guests, like us, to get used to the uneven floor but that is quickly forgotten and the peace and comfort of this coy house wins you over. We had quail, deer, and raccons visit us and the largest flock of turkeys was just down the street at sunset. We come to Cambria to relax and get away from the summer heat. The Bonny Cottage was the perfect choice.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the cottage—it exceeded all my expectations. The charming ambiance, coupled with the candles illuminating at 8 PM, made me feel right at home. It truly was a magical experience, incredibly cozy, and impressively well-stocked. The massive tree in the backyard, adorned with moss, added to the enchanting atmosphere.

This is a sweet, romantic step back in time. So many cozy and thoughtful touches throughout. Especially loved the candles on timers and the multiple spots to sit and enjoy the views. We will definitely be back.

We enjoyed the quietness of the neighborhood, the proximity to town and Moonstone beach, and the amenities at the cottage. The cottage is small, but had everything we needed for a relaxing few days. We especially enjoyed sitting out on the deck and enjoying our coffee in the morning, and watching the sunset in the evening. We would definitely stay here again.

Have been visiting Cambria and staying in this cottage on and off for 20 plus years. The cabin is charming, homey, and one of the original Cambria cottages. As well, it has always been a good experience dealing with Scenic Coast.Clearly the family who owns this property has a long standing relationship and it shows. This time was special. I had to cut my visit short and leave early due to Hurricane Hilary. I needed to get south before the storm hit. Accidentally left my earrings behind and worried quite a bit that the finder would keep them. But these are honest people. Valerie received the earrings from her cleaner...thanks to an truthful person. I received a complete refund for the night I lost, and my earrings are being mailed to me. What great folks! I cannot recommend this property management company enough.

The lovely home is charming if you enjoy the vintage feel. We enjoyed the deck area in the afternoon which offered a peak of the ocean. This was my second visit to the home in the past 2 years. I was happy to see a few upgrades such as new carpet, new microwave and a few other items. I would suggest that the owner consider providing a Keurig coffee pot. We scrubbed one of the copper bottom pans. There are several others that need the same treatment. Lots of deck area and a BBQ is available. The two loveseats in the living room may need the cushions redone. There didn't seem to be much padding in the seat area. Also the TV is a bit challenging. The instructions are not quite correct. However, we did figure it out after a bit of trial and error. I would definitely recommend the home if you are looking for a quiet, comfortable single story home located close to everything.

My husband and I were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary. We enjoyed the peace and quiet of this place. The bed in the master was very comfortable. Lots of windows throughout the house to let in the ocean breezes. We especially liked sitting at the cozy kitchen table for our morning coffee and breakfast while looking out at the trees and flowers. The kitchen was well stocked with most anything you need to prepare meals by simply adding your ingredients of choice. There was not a dishwasher but we don’t mind washing dishes.
We felt like we stepped back in
time enjoying the antiques and old photos on the
walls of couples and friends enjoying themselves. There were lots of books and movies to watch if you desired to do so.
We weren’t far from shopping and places to eat and only about 15 minutes from Hearst Castle.
We would love to stay here again!

If it were possible I would purchase this property for our second home. Currently living 1/2 block up from the ocean in Pismo Beach this property is nowhere near as close, but we love the quaintness/coziness of the unit. We're just so comfortable here.

This historical cottage is bright and comfortable. The antiques and old photos of people having fun add to the charm of the place. There are two decks to enjoy with a distant view of the ocean and a front yard that was frequented by groups of quail. You are walking distance to town and the beach but you do need to walk up a steep hill going back. The cottage is well stocked and has everything you may need. This is a real gem!

Happy Hill Cottage
Although the cottage was very clean. It definitely needed some maintenance done. There was no propane in the BBQ tank. The oven was in very poor working order making it hard to put a meal together. The whole was just a bit tired.

The perfect place for our vacation.. The cabin was the perfect size for two people and dog and the back patio was a great place for the dog to explore. I personally loved the front deck myself to sit out and listen to the ocean and get a little sun. Despite being an older cabin the kitchen and bathrooms in good shape And the kitchen is perfectly stocked with tools and pots and pans and dishes! Situated on happy Hill, it is about half a mile into town either a nice walk or a quick drive.

Wonderful getaway in historic cabin!
We loved staying at the cabin on Happy Hill. It was so fun to see all the pictures around the cabin. We especially loved seeing the photo of the original owners. We loved that it was a cabin built back in the 1920's and wondered if it had been one of the Hearst hunting cabins. We loved our ocean view deck and the short walk to Moonstone beach.

Just right!
This cozy older house was exceptionally clean and accommodating with everything we needed for ourselves, and our pet! The yard and deck expand the living spaces, and are warm and welcoming . A short walk from town and the beach and the hiking trails of the nature préserve it is a great base camp for walkers and runners.

Amazing cozy cottage with amazing ocean view
My sister and I have rented many places over the years although not in Cambria. This was the best rental by far. It was the perfect size for my sister and I. It was the best decorated by far (although that's an "extra" ) it was so enjoyable. The candles on timers that went on in the evenings added to the cozy feel and such a cute idea! The 2 different seating areas in the back of the cottage ...One under and "Oprah like" tree and the other with a view of the trees, garden and ocean. Then the third area, the deck with a great view of the ocean which is surprisingly close to view from being in Happy Hill and being able to hear the roar of the ocean was fabulous. A huge important piece for us was the very complete and informative Welcome binder that we found to be fantastic!!! Someone took the time to do that WELL!!!! The framed photos of a couple through out the cottage was another detail we really enjoyed!! We wished that there was more information about the history of the cottage and if the couple in the photos were connected to the cottage. All the extras in the bathrooms and the kitchen which are available to the renters was amazing (we usually bring everything as cabins/cottages are NOT so well appointed!!!! We truly felt like cherished guests in a family's home....just without the family ....although we would have loved to have shared time with the couple in the framed photos!
Oh, my only suggestion would be to add blackout curtains to the 2nd bedroom for people who are not early risers and are awakened as the sunrises and the room get bright...just makes it harder to relax and sleep in especially when you're on holiday!!! Overall, we will definitely come back here when we can!

The Bonny Cottage by the Sea, was indeed Bonny! It was very cozy, very clean, and very enjoyable. The neighborhood was quiet, lots of friendly people walking friendly dogs. The front deck with the furniture was fun, we actually got to sit in the sun a few days. The kitchen was very well stocked and we found everything that we needed. Loved all the candles that are in the living room. The beds were comfortable and the cottage was decorated with vintage furniture, photos, and decorations which were very charming. I would certainly stay here again!

We highly recommend Bonny Cottage on Happy Hill as a cozy and inviting place to stay in Cambria. We were impressed enough that booked a return in September, as well as next year. The cottage was perfect for vacationing with our little dog Coco and the fenced yard was great. Bonny Cottage was clean and well maintained and the kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, dishes, cups, utensils and cookware, etc. The gas fireplace and candles were a plus. There is both a charcoal and propane grill available, however, in need of a cleaning before use.
