By far one of the most beautiful scenic and relaxing rentals we have ever stayed at. This home is privately situated and peaceful. Very well-appointed home with every amenity provided by the home owner. Centrally located to beautiful beaches and the downtown of Cruz Bay. We cannot wait to return to this beautiful home to relax and enjoy again!

- VRBO is supposed to be all about privacy, and being able to enjoy a secluded stay. To our surprise, the host stayed on the premises… we saw/ heard him everyday of our stay. This was not listed at all that our host would be with us.
- this was labeled as a romantic getaway. luckily I was with my sister and not a romantic partner… on top of him staying with us the bug situation was out of control. The ONE bathroom he had was connected to the house but completely open to the outside. Mosquitoes would get in at all times of the day. We couldn’t use the bathroom comfortably. There were no bug zappers, citronella candles. Just bug spray. We didn’t feel comfortable even using the toilet we were being attacked. They all hid in the towels…
Our bodies looked like we had chicken pox by the end of the trip.
-the shower had NO HOT WATER. at all.
- NO CELL SERVICE. couldn’t contact anyone…. Calls, texts, etc.
- were unaware that we needed a rental car and were not told that. None of the taxis were willing or could take us up to where our house was because it was too high up the mountain. So we were kind of stranded. We were eventually hooked up with a very kind personal driver for the week.
It had a gorgeous view and the plants were nice but other than that we were pretty uncomfortable with our stay.

Amazing. From the gardens to the plant life to the privacy. A true piece of paradise. We have stayed in many places over the past 28 years. This is by far our favorite. Kitchen is a chefs kitchen. Has everything you need. Plenty of towels and beach towels. Love the candles in the evening and the outdoor bathroom. So unique in so many ways. Looking to book next year.

My husband and I loved our stay at this lovely, secluded paradise. The villa was the perfect size for two and was well-equipped for a week-long stay. The views were panoramic, and we enjoyed our morning coffees and evening wine time sitting on the porch, admiring the beautiful views. Many evenings, upon returning from our daily adventures at the beaches of Saint John's or hiking in the mountains, we would take a dip in the pool and enjoy our wine on the veranda and a delicious home-cooked meal prepared in Chef Ted's well-stocked kitchen. No stress, just the gorgeous views and Caribbean breezes all on island time!

We absolutely loved our stay at the villa. It was very secluded and beautifully decorated and very well stocked. We used the pool almost every day. I think the listing on VRBO should list everything that is stocked. It might help people pack less. The view of the bay was gorgeous. Please note that this is up in the hills and not near beaches, which we knew. The breezes on the elevated porch were great. Even though it is only a few miles from Cruz Bay, it takes a little bit longer than expected because of the steep roads and appropriately low speed limit. Please note that the pool was very private even though there is an apartment for the owner or property manager on the first floor. Also note that the bathroom is partially open to the outdoors, which is lovely, but can be a bit buggy in the early morning. The house has mosquito repelling units which can be placed in the bathroom to reduce the mosquitos, if necessary. It wasn't necessary in the main part of the house. Again, the home is lovely with vaulted ceilings, a beautiful kitchen and plenty of room. Wifi is available in the living room/kitchen. We could not get a Verizon signal at the house, but Verizon is not the main carrier for the island. We don't mind...we often go where there is no signal...on purpose. We would definitely stay again.

Nakira met us at the local grocery store after arriving on island via last ferry and guided us to the rental. Let me tell you, this property is nothing short of amazing. Accommodations were supberb, above & beyond any other rental we have ever stayed. Yes owner lives downstairs, but you dont even notice they are there as they grace their guests with utmost privacy. Dont second guess this Villa, you wont be disappointed. Thank you Ted for sharing your space, and hope you found the windchime we left as a small token of our appreciation. Couldnt have had a better secluded romantic getaway to celebrate our 25th anniversary in paradise. God bless, The Hoovers

We had the most wonderful stay at Carmel by the Sea! The property is gorgeous and the pictures don't do it justice. The view, the wrap-around decks, the pool, the abundance of plants, the ocean breeze, everything made for a magical week. It was very tough leaving to come home.
The house is beautifully decorated and furnished, and very well-appointed with whatever you need for a vacation in St John - beach towels, beach chairs, waterproof bags, snorkeling gear, sunblock, coolers. (As big music fans, we especially appreciated having both an Amazon Echo in the main living area as well as a battery-powered bluetooth speaker for listening by the pool or elsewhere.)
We loved the kitchen, which was very well-stocked and had everything you could need or want (great hot sauce selection!), including a very impressive bar area. The welcome basket was a lovely touch and had a wide variety of snacks, and the fridge had a thoughtful selection of beers, sodas, seltzers, and water bottles.
Our only issue (and we're likely the ones to blame) was we had a miscommunication with Chef Ted about having him cook dinner for us one night, so we were sad to miss that opportunity. Be sure to check out tedssupperclub.com if you're interested!

This place is a hidden gem. The house, porch and pool are heavenly. The kitchen is amazing as all the reviews state.... The shower is fantastic! It's a hidden getaway close to everything. Fantastic going to bed listening to crickets and creatures and waking up to birds and nature. Property is amazingly lush with plant life. Ted is fantastic... self described as "plant crazy".... And takes pride in his work as he should! First time on St John and we will be back.... And will stay at Carmel be the Sea again!

Second time staying, we like the place, just needs some repairs, chair in the living room is broken so it tips backwards and is a hazard. Garbage disposal doesn’t work.
It would be helpful to have more cleaning tools for a long stay like we book.

This home is an amazing place...true island architecture with sweeping veranda and wonderful view of Fish Bay. The kitchen is gourmet and the shower opens to an indoor enclosed garden. There were many complementary snacks, cold drinks, and a bottle of Prosecco. The owner could be a botanical garden curator...hundreds of potted indoor and outdoor tropical plants. The home is on the south shore of the island over some typical St John roads which can be challenging.

When we arrived at the property the pool was broken. We were both disappointed this was not communicated to us. One of the main reasons we rented the place was for the pool. The other major issue we had was the mattress on the bed is in desperate need of replacement, quite possibly the most uncomfortable mattress for 2 people we have ever slept on. Just be aware that this rental is in an area that is filled with bugs so you need to act accordingly. The owner did a great job stocking the unit with snacks and coffee and even a full bar. We love St. John so we made the best of it.

Ted’s beautiful home was a great escape from the freezing cold weather in Atlanta Georgia. We were met by his team at the car ferry greeted with a great welcome basket on our arrival and provided everything we needed for our getaway to enjoy beautiful St. John! From the minute we pulled up we fell in love with the property. The lush gardens made it feel like your own private sanctuary. The outside balcony and pool area had great seating options and a beautiful view. The kitchen came well stocked with supplies and unexpected treats to make you feel at home. Ted also had everything at the house for your outdoor beach excursions which was so helpful. Our one complaint was that the mosquitos in the outdoor shower & bathroom were very bad. You needed to apply bug spray each time you entered the bathroom and we tried to keep the door shut at all times since there was not a screen to prevent them from coming into the bedroom. He has an excellent welcoming basket with food and wine which was much appreciated after a long travel day. The owner is a chef and his kitchen has everything that could be needed for those interested in creating their own Caribbean meals. Carmel by the Sea is just gorgeous. We loved the huge profusion of potted tropical plants everywhere - especially in the lovely bathroom courtyard, but also around the front door, on the deck, etc. The views are fantastic - with plenty of spots to sit and enjoy it. And the house is charmingly decorated and feels cozy and homey. The location is great too - not too far from Cruz Bay, but enough off the beaten path to feel peaceful and secluded.

The views are spectacular from every room and outside. The house is very well appointed, comfortable clean, and had everything g we needed. The pool deck area is like a separate little oasis too and has the best view. There was alway a gentle breeze and even in late June we were perfectly comfortable. Loved watching the bananakeets and geckos roam the property and coexist with us. Outdoor lanterns come on magically at night and add to the ambiance. Hanna was amazing all around and especially in helping us get to the house and rescuing us after an issue with our car. While you didn’t know Ted was there, when we did meet him, he was lovely, and very helpful. Wish we could have done the supper club. The driveway is an issue but we just parked at the top. We will definitely be back!
