About this apartment rental

Enjoy a truely privileged stay in this apartment located in a 17th century stately Sevillian palace:
Opposite the Madre de Dios convent, in the historical heart of Seville, lies this 17th century Baroque house, beautifully restored by Rafael Manzano, the renown and award-winning classical architect who was responsible for the conservation of Seville's Royal Palace complex. Guests staying here will be transported back to Seville's period of greatest splendour, and a taste of the life of the nobility in this regal city.

La Casa de Maese Farfán, as it is familiarly called, is one of five apartments comprising the Casa Palacio San José. It owes its name to Francisco de Paula Farfán, a renowned Sevillian artist, chronicler of the city and talented carpenter, who was born in this very house in 1869 and whose soul, whether by chance or pure serendipity, is today present in the carpentry work carried out by his descendants in the course of the complex restoration works of this stately palace home.

The house is accessed through an impressive front gate located in calle San José 7. A short, open hallway leads to the patio and a covered furnished sitting area, crossing which you can access the house proper through a hall housing a fabulous staircase and lift leading to the apartments and rooftop terraces.

Enthusiasts of both architecture and history will delight in the classical structural details, the large arcaded patio with Roman marble columns and fountains, generous terraces with exuberant greenery, and pergolas to keep the environment cool and sheltered. Inside, a veritable exhibition of craftsmanship, with classical decorative tiling, woodwork, coffered ceilings and elaborate plaster mouldings.

This property, generous in size, in natural light and in attributes, is built around a pretty arcaded patio. Inside, the facilities of a contemporary home in an environment which combines the opulence of Andalusian Baroque architecture, including high ceilings and generous proportions, with a careful décor bringing together articles of Spanish-style furniture, both antique and modern, with local craftsmanship.

La Casa de Maese Farfán spans an area of 125 m2 to be enjoyed at will, in addition to 25m2 in the private gallery and a further 180m2 of terraces plus solarium on the top floor (shared with the other apartments). There are three bedrooms, all with their own en-suite bathroom, affording maximum privacy.

The spaciousness of the rooms, the height of the ceilings, the marble floors, wooden doors and windows and pretty ceramic skirtings create a fresh yet relaxing environment which inspire you to make the most of this property.

To the left of the entrance hallway is the kitchen, a bright room equipped to the detail. A short corridor leads to the sitting-cum-dining room, decorated in fresh colours with elements of period Spanish furniture alongside modern easy chairs, sofas and textiles. Bright and cheerful, this room is perfect for enjoying company, a quiet TV session, or lunch with the family, at a dining table for six. Serving this living area is a guest toilet.

The sitting room breathes in fresh air through the gallery, which can be closed with sliding glass doors and overlooks the pretty main patio. Two of the bedrooms open directly onto the gallery.

The sleeping area is comprised of three bedrooms. The sitting area leads directly to the master bedroom, which is equipped with a large 160 x 190 cm double bed, with a hardwood headboard and matching bedside tables. There is a large built-in wardrobe, a writing desk, chair and full en-suite bathroom.

The second and third bedrooms are each equipped with two single beds of 90 x 190 cm, a writing desk, built-in wardrobes and their own en-suite bathroom.

And to top the experience, the terraces of Casa Palacio San José, to be found on the third floor. An oasis of green in the middle of the city, ideal for having breakfast, an evening al fresco with friends, some sunbathing in the solarium, complete with rainfall shower, or impressive views of the many terraces, dormers and bell gables of the Jewish district. The third floor also houses the shared laundry room, with washing machine and dryer. The apartments have hanging racks which are stored in the kitchens.

Located in the very heart of the city, just 5 minutes' walk to the Cathedral and the Giralda, next to the Madre de Dios convent, Casa Palacio San José is a stunning property over three floors, with an area of more than 1000 square metres.

Staying in Casa Palacio San José will enable you to enjoy all the charm of Seville's historical and cultural heritage, as well as its shopping and leisure opportunities. The historical centre and the Cathedral, the Murillo Gardens, or the very heart of the Barrio de Santa Cruz are just a few minutes' walk away, along a route filled with visual, culinary and cultural delights.

Casa Palacio San José houses five separate, independent apartments: San José I, San José II, San José III, San José IV, and San José V, together accommodating up to 22 guests in total comfort and over 500m2 of shared space. My family had a great stay at this comfortable villa. It was close to everything, had some very cool historic common areas, and also it was great to have AC in the middle of the summer. Communication from the owners was easy and helpful. Very highly recommend. Just don't plan to drive much in the narrow streets of the historic district if you can avoid.

Location was excellent. Beautiful building and roof area for relaxing. Lift was great as travelling with elderly parents. Road was quiet and very easy to walk to main attractions. Communal spaces were lovely. Aircon worked very well. Kitchen was small but very well equipped. Didn't really use much, too many great places to eat out.

Our group: Boys 10 and 15; their two 50-something dads; 70-something grandma. We all loved this place. Enough room, enough bathrooms, located near places we wanted to go and memorable restaurants. The best part was to relax in such comfortable beauty. From the stunning courtyard to the bougainvillea-shaded rooftop garden sanctuary, everything has character and Moorish-influenced touches. Timeless. Historic. Welcoming. From interactions with the owners to the knowledgeable orientation from the woman who greeted us, all was done with grace and intelligence. And yes, thanks for the recommendation for flamenco in Triana. Highly recommend this place. I could live here for a year or ten, happily.

The location is excellent and worked really well for our family. I think generally there is a slight drain problem in Seville and this sometimes affected the apartment, however we had a marvellous time with everything in walking distance. Highly recommend.
