"Crab House" is a pet friendly, oceanfront Outer Banks vacation rental home that was been fully renovated to provide large living areas. This great oceanfront property is located at 4123 North Virginia Dare Trail in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina at Mile Post 3 3/4.
There is an extra-large oceanfront deck with deck chairs and exceptional, expansive ocean views. House features large open great room area with dining space for 10 people. New kitchen with all new appliances. This home is elevated but offers one level living .
On the oceanfront side of this home, there are 2 Bedrooms and 1 full bath. Bedroom #1 has a Queen Bed; Bedroom #2 has a Queen bed for exceptional ocean views. Bedroom #3 has 1 Single bed and 1 double bed and Bedroom #4 has 1 Single Bed and 1 Double Bed on the street side of home. New laundry room has been added with new appliances. Could not ask for a better location...close to the action but still private and quiet. Very clean, very comfortable. Advice is to bring tp, trash bags, paper towels, laundry materials (detergent, fabric softener). House had hand soap, dishwasher cubes, nice patio/beach toys situation, kitchen had all the materials we needed. Loved the big kitchen table. Would love some more towel hooks in bathrooms. Thanks for a great time!

This house was perfect for us. You are close to the grocery stores and restaurants of Kitty Hawk, but you'd never know it once you get to the house. The layout of the house is great and it is right on a private section of beach. The back porch has unobstructed views of the beach over the sand dunes. The color of the house was helpful when we took long beach walks - we knew exactly which house was ours! We hated to leave and hope to go back soon.

We had such a great time at Terry’s house, this location was perfect for our group! Everything is close by, but when we were at the house, we felt as though we had our own private beach! I took my parents on this trip with us, they are both in their 60s with mild mobility issues, and they were easily able to get up the stairs and around the house. That was important for us. The house was spacious, much more than can be seen in the pictures. We had everything we needed to prepare meals, and the AC kept us plenty cool when sun was blazing just a little too hot for us. I highly recommend the Crab House if you are looking for the perfect stay in Kitty Hawk :)

We had a very nice stay here at The Crabs house. It was very comfortably and clean. The location was perfect as the ocean is literally your backyard. There’s a lot to do in the area with families. Super convenient to all the stores you would need along with your choice of many ice cream places.
We ate at the Bad Bean Baja grille which was amazing food (recommended by the host).
We had a great time at the Waterpark and rented a boat to fish the sound. Lots of great memories. Thank you

You can't beat the location! The house was clean and had everything we needed. The only con is what many reviews mentioned, the AC unit didn't keep it cool enough. I would not going during the hottest months of the summer. Luckily we had great weather with temps no higher than 80 and the lows in the mid 60's to 70. If I was just sitting under one of the ceiling fans in the living room it was comfortable. The kitchen was warm while you were cooking. I think a ceiling fan in there would help. The bedrooms were never really comfortable and the ceiling fan in my room only had one speed. The unit is set to 72 and you can't turn in down. But if you want a peaceful spot on the beach, you can't beat the location!

Me and my family loved this beach home. Wonderful location, house was amazing and very clean. i loved the deck and waking up every morning to watch the sunrise and sit out there. the beds for very comfy and had no issues at all. definitely would stay here again!

My wife & I recently stayed at Crab House. The house was spacious and clean and had everything we needed for a relaxing vacation. The ocean view from the deck was fantastic and the location was great for restaurants & shopping. The property owner was very accommodating & helped to make our stay stress free.

Our stay at this beach house was absolutely incredible. We felt right at home as soon as we opened up the front door. Plenty of space in the kitchen, washer and dryer, plenty of beds, 2 bathrooms, Great space on the deck and just a couple steps to the beach. I would highly recommend this property to anybody looking in the area.

Overall, a great house and a lovely stay. The location is great. Being beachfront was so nice, the views were gorgeous and it was so easy to get to and from the beach each day. In past years of visiting the Outer Banks, we have stayed near the beach, but a short walk away from a beach access (ex. across the street). Especially with young kids, the convenience of being right on the beach makes a huge difference! And at night we could have a glass of wine on the deck after the kids went to bed and listen to the waves (and the first few nights we had a great view of the moon over the water), which was perfect. The house was very clean and updated and the kitchen was well equipped. The only complaint is that the Wi-Fi is not very good. My husband had to do some work while on the trip and had to use a mobile hotspot from his phone at times to get things to load (and if the kids were watching their tablets, they had to mostly just watch things that were pre-downloaded). The West-facing (street-facing) bedrooms also are rather warm, especially at night once the doors are closed. Even though the AC is set to 72 (the lowest it could go) and the fans in the room were on, our baby monitor showed the actual temp in those rooms as 76-78. But the kids seemed ok with it, so it wasn't a big deal. Overall, though, a great stay!

Beach front sets your soul free
Wonderful stay. Our time in this home was pure perfection! The location is amazing! Beach front in kitty hawk. House is well kept and has all the comfort you need. The view of the ocean from your bed as you wake is breathtaking. Communication with the host was amazing! If I had to give “even better if” feedback, then I will be nit-picky and say that the internet (but the beach!) is on the slower side and hot sand on the path (wear your flips on the walk down/up or you will have hot feet).

Ideal family vacation spot
This was our first trip to the OBX and it did not disappoint! The house provided easy access to the beach to come and go as we pleased and the beach was not crowded at this location. We enjoyed beautiful sunrises from the deck every morning. The house offered all amenities needed for two families with young children and is centrally located for easy access to other parts of OBX. Terry, the host, was most accommodating and very responsive, ensuring a smooth stay. We would definitely come back for another stay!

Nice Home, Unprofessional Host
The positive is, our kids had a blast, the house is wonderful, and is in a great location consistent with previous reviews. The host, however, was dishonest and stole from us as we paid everything in advance, including the pet fee. The host was very clear via VRBO message that she would refund the fee if we were not planning to bring the dog. We messaged her prior to the trip that the dog was staying home. When we asked for the pet fee back after the trip, she stated “I am not refunding anything; I could have ruined your wedding.” She even hung up on the VRBO representative who had all the documentation when they attempted to contact her about the refund.
She also has tried to place a claim on our deposit stating that we were “over occupying the home”, which we were not as we only had the limit of 10 people staying there. Our family had rented beach houses all within walking distance for a family gathering for a small ceremony on the beach. One of the other homes even being from the same host, which the host was well aware of and acknowledged via text. Our ceremony was on the beach like many others who have reviewed this home, and included 15 other family members from two neighboring beach homes (a total of 25 – which I accidentally ordered extra chairs) and the host stated that the occupancy extended to people on the beach; therefore we had violated our agreement and should not receive our deposit or pet fee back.
Overall we were highly respectful of the home. We did bring all of our own plastic/paper dishware and plastic ware, aluminum pans and such. We deep cleaned the home daily, fixed her dryer which had sand from previous renters because it was unusable, and kindly left additional paper towels, toilet papers and items to be used for future tenants. We found the host to be both unprofessional and invasive as she decided to attend the wedding on the dune by the home (we have pictures) and would holler passive aggressive comments at my family if they decided to come over to say hi and/or bye, in particular one was simply coming by to say good-bye as they were leaving for the airport. There are outdoor cameras on the property that would show there was never a pet on the property during our stay there.

Perfect location and home for a family with young kids (and more!)
Me and my family have generally stayed in more remote areas of the OBX for past vacations (Salvo/Rodanthe, or even Corolla 4wd access areas) but wanted to be IN TOWN and near a variety of activities, restaurants, etc for this trip since it was my toddler son’s first OBX vacation.
This house hit the mark on location- it sacrifices nothing, anything you can dream of is around the corner. The beach is even super close, NO clamoring through long paths in the dunes to get to the beach. The water is right there and a cinch to access, my son comfortably walked himself to and fro and rinsed his own feet at the bottom of the deck before coming in.
Lots of toys and beach gear were provided plus the kitchen was completely stocked. You can even have a crab boil (we did!) The appliances all worked very well too. The open kitchen/dining/living area layout cannot be beat, and EVERYTHING is on one level inside the home. Such a family friendly and welcoming place to be!
If there were to be any drawbacks, the living room furniture was uncomfortable (cushions slide around , etc) , the Wifi is tepid/barely works depending on the time of day and there’s only one exterior door. But like we said, “not complaining, just saying!” I wouldn’t be able to work remotely on the provided Wifi while vacationing here, but thankfully I didn’t have any need to. Just go to the beach as much as possible. Sit on the high top deck chairs and watch the dolphins while sipping tea. Y’all enjoy, we plan to come back asap!

Great stay at the crab house
We stayed here with our children and another family with children and had a fantastic time! This is a great house for two families (ample seating for dining, lots of beds for kids) and is RIGHT ON THE BEACH! Need I say more? Book a stay here to unwind!

This was our 2nd time staying at the Crab house, it is a nice place for kids. You can walk right down to the beach and also sit on the deck and watch the ocean!

We really enjoyed our stay. The location was perfect--right on the beach so only a few steps to the beach. It worked perfectly for our family as we wanted to explore many locations from the south to the north of OBX. Restaurants, activities and grocery store all nearby as well. Super clean and a well-appointed kitchen.

Love it!
The house is great - we loved sitting on the deck looking at and listening to the ocean. You can’t be any closer to the beach! Terry was very quick to respond before and during our stay, an excellent host! If we go back to the Outer Banks, we would definitely stay here again. Our dog loved it too!

CRABS in OBX
My family and I stayed at CRABS cottage in Kitty Hawk. We reviewed the photos of the house online and when we got there it was just as the pictures looked. It was clean and Right on the beach. Stunning
Where do I start… The pictures absolutely do not do this place justice. The picture of the four chairs looking out over the water was where I intended to sit this vacation, and the views from that spot were marvelous, both morning and evening. The home was beautiful, well maintained and clean, and perfect for a week at the beach. The open floor plan was perfect to congregate, and the four bedrooms were well appointed. Overall, a great place for our family to reset after a crazy year! Thank you for a great week Terry!!

Spectacular Sunrises
The Crab House was perfect for our family. The house was clean, newly updated, kitchen was well equipped(went deep sea fishing, and crabbing & shrimping, meals were awesome), and the open floor plan allowed us to all be together. The owner was very accommodating .
Loved that it was right on the beach, my grandchildren had a blast. Beach was not crowded which was a plus with what's happening now.
From the back deck we saw spectacular sunrises, dolphin swimming, and the sounds and sights of the ocean and beach.
We would definitely stay at Crab House again, hopefully next summer Covid-19 will be behind us. I can't wait to return.

Perfect for families
We had a great week at Crabs (grandparents, uncle, parents with toddler in tow). The house was very clean, well laid out with open concept.....kitchen has tons of counter space and everything you could need in the cabinets. We loved sitting on the dolphin watching chairs with coffee in the morning (we put up a canopy to provide some shade during the hottest hours of the day) and just looking right out at the ocean, and sitting out on the picnic tables to have lunch and breakfast. Terry is very responsive and clearly takes great pride in this property.

Fabulous Stay Right on the Beach
This property is wonderful! It is the perfect location when you cross the bridge into OBX and sits right on the beach. It is fabulous for families who don’t want to make a long trek back and forth to the beach for potty breaks or food. If you have someone who doesn’t love sand but wants to be involved (read: some grandparents), this is great for them too because they can still see and chat with everyone on the beach from the deck. That’s how close it is! The open floor plan is wonderful and the owner is great - alerting us when we mistakenly left some kids’ clothes behind and answering any questions we had. Let’s not forget it’s dog-friendly which is good for those fur babies who are well-behaved and don’t mind a road trip. I highly recommend staying here!

We loved our stay at "Crabs"! Terry was very helpful and friendly. The home is a perfect place for families. It is very comfortable and has everything you need for your stay. You can't beat that easy walk to the beach and the best views from the porch!

Nice property
Overall, we enjoyed our stay very much. The house was well equipped and beautiful, the deck overlooking the ocean was great. Our only complaint, which might not matter to others, is the furniture was not comfortable for anyone in our party of four. However, we're all nearing 70 and three of us have hip/back issues, so younger folks might not have any problems.
