About this cottage rental

Clamalot Cottage is a bird watchers and naturalist's paradise. Located along the Aquidneck Island Greenway, this charming little one bedroom cottage is just 3 minutes from the Norman Bird Sanctuary and four minutes from Second and Third beaches. Just one minute away is public access to a Sakonnet Inlet beach. The Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge is just 5 minutes drive. These protected wildlife corridors assure a steady flow of birds past the cottage. A flock of wild turkeys visit the yard often and the air is full of varied bird calls throughout the day. Little Creek flows by just a hundred yards away through the neighbors farm. Grassland, cows, cornfields and country thicket fills the neighborhood and Clamalot is down a gravel lane away from the sounds of traffic.
Clamalot Cottage is a fully south facing sunny nook. A stone outdoor barbecue and fire hearth make for great cookouts. With the beaches five minutes away and the Newport restaurant scene ten minutes away, you have the best of both worlds. This comfortable little cottage is the perfect getaway for two people. There is one comfortable queen bed .

This was a great place for me to stay while commuting to work in the area. It was close enough to the beach and activities but far enough away for some peace and quiet. John and Porsche were readily available if any issues if needed. Fortunately, I really didn't have any. I would recommend staying here while enjoying the Newport area.

John was very accommodating from start to finish in communication and went above and beyond in providing me with a great stay. The Cabin is a free standing two room cottage. The entrance brings you into the living, dining and kitchen area with a couch in a beautiful corner of windows to relax and enjoy this tranquil retreat just outside the town. Just off the living area is the spacious bedroom. In fact, both areas feel spacious. Just off the bedroom is the full bathroom with combo Tub/Shower. Nice little back yard gets nice sun, and the property nicely landscaped. It was beautiful even in the dead of winter. I would love to see it during more vibrant seasons. The cottage has everything you need... and nothing you don’t, meaning, at least during my stay, there was no TV there, and I liked it that way. There was satisfactory Internet for when I wanted online streaming or surfing, or for when I had to work. There was a modern Washer/Dryer as well. I really enjoyed my stay here, and John was as agreeable a host as you will find. Great for singles looking to relax and recharge, quiet couples looking for a nice retreat away from the city, and also for those from out of town that would prefer a more rustic feeling environment over a sterile hotel room. Thank you for everything John, Rand

Clamalot is a special accommodation recommended for any who want the ambiance of a nature setting and the elements of a homey atmosphere. The 2-roomer includes a gracious host who stopped by with hand-harvested clams specially done because I'd wondered about the name and local clam availability, a charming knotty wood interior and comfy bed, and high-speed wifi access. No TV - which is a big plus, to my mind! There looked to be no air conditioning or ceiling fans, which was fine for October; but not sure how it would be in the heat of summer. Heating was evident but we didn't need or use it. The door locks can be a bit tricky but goodness - there's so much to love about Clamalot! Recommended for folks who, like us, want nearby easy access to amenities without the close-in noise so many accommodations include. Rustic, peaceful and serene atmosphere makes Clamalot a fine place for rural-minded folk.

I'm writing this review as a native Newporter (now living in Venice, CA) who goes back east fairly often to visit family. I've always stayed in hotels in the past, until this most recent visit, and renting this place has changed everything! No more hotels!! Only Clamalot. We fell in love the minute we walked in the door. This peaceful, dreamy little cottage was perfect in so many ways...secluded yet close to town, no-frills but with just the right amount of amenities (no tv but fast wifi), charming & rustic while clean & fresh. The queen size bed was very comfortable, the shower was great, kitchen was stocked with the basics (pots, pans, utensils, coffee maker), there were plenty of fresh towels, ample closet space, and there is a washer and dryer on site (which comes in handy on an extended trip). We spent every morning watching the birds and enjoying coffee at the outside table, and every evening staring at the stars while listening to the chirping of frogs and crickets (this place is a nature lovers dream). Clamalot is like a little hidden gem tucked away in Middletown but conveniently close to downtown Newport, all of the surrounding beaches, the Norman Bird Sanctuary, Sachuest Point, and (maybe most importantly) Sweet Berry Farm. But be forewarned...even with all these wonderful attractions, you'll be tempted to curl up with a good book and never leave the cottage! The owner John was as gracious and welcoming as the cottage itself. He was completely unobtrusive but always available if we needed anything. We have stayed at a lot of vacation rental properties over the years, and I can honestly say they don't get much more special than this. We will definitely be back to Clamalot, hopefully for a much longer stay next time. Jen & Gregory
