About this cottage rental

Seasmoke Cottage is the private guest cottage on a 4 acre oceanfront property which also includes the owners' year-round residence. The cottage is located at the narrowest point of the Newbury Neck Peninsula in Surry, Maine. A short walk down a woodland path leads to a shoreline seating area to enjoy sunset views of Morgan Bay, explore tidal pools, and watch seals, osprey, and eagles vie for their fish dinners. A short walk in the opposite direction leads to the Carrying Place Beach, a "warm" water (Maine standards!) swimming beach, or to Perry's Lobster Shack, an area landmark frequented by locals, tourists, and boaters. Newbury Neck Peninsula is ideal for sailing, kayaking, paddle boarding, biking, hiking, and long walks with views of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park. The "Neck" is situated at the center of some of most scenic places in Maine including Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island, the Blue Hill Peninsula, and Downeast Maine. And despite its coastal tranquility, it's only 20 minutes away from shops and restaurants.

Seasmoke Cottage is a comfortable and centrally-located place to head home after long days exploring this part of Maine. Nestled in a wooded setting midway between Morgan and Union River Bays, it faces a clay tennis court used exclusively by the guests. The cottage has its own parking, and guests approach the cottage via a private lighted path.

Its spacious deck, with table, umbrella, dining and lounge chairs, is a sunny place for dining, relaxing, or watching your family play tennis.

The cottage is spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated, and fully equipped. Whatever the weather, the cottage is a four-season residence that can be heated, air-conditioned, or dehumidified both upstairs and downstairs. The living room is comfortably furnished and includes a gas fireplace, especially nice on cool fall evenings. The bookshelves are filled with a broad selection of summer reading, games, and puzzles, including children's toys and books. The TV has Roku for streaming movies and shows using guests’ passwords.

The downstairs bedroom has a queen bed with a new mattress in 2024 and is dressed in crisp sheets and elegant bedding. Upstairs, two semi-private "rooms", separated by an enclosed stairwell, feature a queen bed on one side and two twins on the other.

The single bathroom downstairs features a tiled walk-in shower and on-demand hot water.

The kitchen is fully equipped for any meal you might want to make. It has Atlantic black granite countertops, a ceramic cooktop electric range with self-cleaning oven, a refrigerator with ice-maker, a microwave, three different methods of coffee preparation (Keurig coffeemaker, drip, and Chemex pour-over), Bosch dishwasher, and plenty of pots and pans, bakeware, cutlery, dishes, and glassware.

There is a washer and dryer, but in case you don't want to spend your time doing laundry, there are plenty of extra sheets and towels, including beach towels. (The owners will wash and dry your towels for you if you leave them in a basket at the back door.)

Paper products, laundry and dishwashing detergents, and staple food items like flour, sugar, spices, vinegars, and oils are provided. There is even charcoal for the grill. If needed, there is a pack-n-play crib with sheets, a highchair, and a baby gate for the stairs.

Seasmoke Cottage is thoughtfully equipped and well-prepared to make your time here easy and enjoyable.

We had a wonderful week at the cottage. Our hosts were so welcoming. It is very well equipped, cozy and has one of the most pristine tennis courts we have ever played on. We definitely encourage tennis (and Maine) lovers to check it out. It’s on our “would love to go back” list!

We experienced all of the positives that were promised in the description and comments. We rode our bikes to the beach and lobster spot. Both are very close to the cottage and both were very fun times. We also had an EV car and we found the Tesla supercharger convenient at the Ellsworth supermarket. A great vacation!

This was our first time in DownEast Maine. MaryAnne and Marc were wonderful hosts who took care of everything and made our stay one to remember. We enjoyed tennis and the beach on our days we were not in Acadia NP. The property grounds and cottage were amazing! Our kids gave it an A+ !!!

Owners live next door. They were engaged and very helpful from inquiry to checkout. The place is very clean and well supplied. When power to the county went out they let us know they’d phoned it in. And yes they have backup power. We had inadvertently left an item at home. They shared theirs.

My family of four (8 and 10 year old) enjoyed a week at this lovely cottage. The rental was the cleanest rental I've ever been in, so right away it made us comfortable. The kitchen is stocked with everything you might need, and there are plenty of towels, books, games etc. My only discomfort in the house was the mattress in the downstairs bedroom where we slept, so my suggestion to the hosts is perhaps replace it soon! The tennis court was amazing, and although we are not tennis players, we enjoyed some family time on the courts. There is no view of the water from inside the house, but you walk less than 1 minute down a private path to a beautiful spot with adirondack chairs and a peaceful view (no one in sight). We made a day trip to Acadia to hike (about 50 minutes drive), as well as trips to Ellsworth for mexican food and ice cream (86 This and Morton's Moo). There was a cool jewelry/stone/bead store in Ellsworth too that my kids loved. But we spent most of the days walking along the water. The beach is rocky/pebbly (not good for those with poor balance), but great fun to explore. We saw seals, loons, hawks, minnows, herons, crabs and more. We also ate many meals at the lobster shack right on the water (2 minute drive), where the view was amazing. We also walked to the sandy beach which was about a 5-10m walk. Overall these are some of the most attentive and kind hosts we've experienced, and they definitely go out of their way to make sure you're comfortable.

This cottage was such a welcoming and beautiful spot for our family of four to vacation for the week. The view from the water is amazing and our children loved exploring the rocky shore during low tide. It felt so luxurious to have our own private tennis court and take a little time each day to play together as a family. This area of Maine in general is unbeatable as far as I’m concerned. Still close to Acadia national park, but off the beaten path where you feel like you’re in your own secret little out of the way part of the world. With gorgeous views and delicious restaurants dotting the landscape, we thoroughly enjoyed our time on the Blue Hill peninsula. Tinder Hearth woodfired pizzas was a highlight as well as Bagaduce Lunch. Deer Isle was also a hidden gem. I really hope we can come back sometime. Mary Anne and Mark were so gracious and take such good care of the property and provided so many little extra touches to the house. If this sounds like it’s up your alley, go for it!
