About this house rental

The home current structure is from the 14th century and it has been recently restored by the architect and interior designer owner to become a comfortable and unique vacation home that will take you on a journey through the history of Italy and the town of Civita di Bagnoregio. The 14th century core has a living room, dining room, a study and 3 bedroom suites all with private bath: it sleeps 6 people in queen and king size beds and has room for 2 extra people in twin beds. An older part of the house is composed of caves and grottos dating back to Etruscan and Roman times that have been fully incorporated into the home's livable spaces: it also boasts a unique wine cellar inside a Roman water cistern and a meditation room.
Everything is designed with beauty and the comfort of our guests in mind. All the finishes and material are superb and the amenities provided are very luxurious.

Just returned from an amazing stay in Civita. This property is incredible and the town is magical. Chiara welcomed us to the home and prepared a lovely arrival meal which was very welcome after our travels, and she was available during the week to answer any questions and help with anything we needed. This was a truly memorable stay in such a unique property, thank you!!

Our family has just returned from Civita di Bagnoregio and staying at Patrizio’s apartment. We consider ourselves incredibly fortunate to have had the privilege of staying in his home. We arrived to Civita after flying to Rome from Dallas, TX. Knowing that we would be incredibly jet lagged, we arranged for an arrival dinner to be cooked in the apartment. We are so glad that we did. Valeria, Patrizio’s sister, met us there and after checking us in made a superb multi course dinner. She is a lovely host and an excellent cook. The apartment is comfortable, impeccably decorated, and very well equipped. It is situated over a passageway that leads down into a cistern dating back until at least Roman times. Off of this cistern, there is a beautiful garden clinging to the edge of the cliff and a pool located in an adjacent grotto. When you stay at Patrizio’s home, words like impressive, magnificent, dramatic, and outstanding, come to mind. It would make an ideal location for a small destination wedding. We enjoyed making unforgettable memories with our family and hope to return again soon.

Civita di Bagnoregio has been defined as unique, extraordinary, magical. And truly, spending some days at Domus Civita heightens all of these aspects, adding a new dimension: the private enjoyment of Civita's enchantment. When you are done visiting the environs, or strolling around in Civita (BTW: getting to meet Civita's inhabitants is one of the many charms of this small village, as it is to eat at the cozy Forno di Agnese), there is nothing more satisfactory than returning to Patrizio and Mark's house. Staying at Domus Civita felt like being able to privately enjoy the heavenly beauty of Civita. When all the tourists cross the bridge and leave, one feels left in a very special place: the sheer beauty of the decor, the large spaces, the hidden nooks of the house can only mildly prepare you to the stunning beauty of the garden. Going down the stairs is like visiting a wishing well, where your wish for magic will be certainly granted. Sharing a glass of wine with friends in the private magic of the garden while enjoying the sunset, or looking outside from the pool is an experience I can hardly forget.

Thank you for an incredible stay at Domus Civita! It’s difficult to find words that capture the magic of this home and its fairy tale location. I have stayed at many unique accommodations all over the world but I have to say that this home is exceptional. First, the location is magical – a medieval village perched on a promontory – walking across the footbridge and through the Etruscan gateway I felt like I was entering a fairy tale! The hilltown of Civita is delightful – so peaceful with no cars-like going back in time; we had wonderful meals at local restaurants, enjoyed leisurely coffees and drinks around the charming town square – and the townspeople were so friendly. As for the house, you are to be commended for the phenomenal and obviously loving restoration of this historic property. I have never been in a private home with its own Roman water cistern and ancient caves! We had so much fun walking through the series of gorgeously lit medieval caves that led us from the main floor of the house down to the stunning Italian garden. The wine cellar in the Roman cistern is amazing, as is the meditation cave that you’ve outfitted with pillows & candles- so romantic! Floating in the pool and hot tub in a stone cave off the garden was like being on a movie set! We enjoyed great meals and stunning views from the garden gazebo. The living room and kitchen are beautifully designed and so comfortable – the terracotta floors, wood beams and the stone fireplace are gorgeous. And the artwork throughout the home is wonderful. The three bedrooms are beautifully appointed – I enjoyed the gorgeous views from the windows in the upstairs bed and bathroom. We also appreciated the great books you made available. To anyone considering an inspired vacation in Italy, I can most enthusiastically recommend Domus Civita

They say a 'pictures tell a 1000 words' but in this situation they only reveal about 200, of those WOW is repeated about 199 times, well at least it was for us, however, experiencing this home for yourself will be the only way that you can ever feel & understand the other 800 words. Entering 'Domus Civita' for the first time into the main room we were in 'lust' with the charming property, but it wasn't until we entered the caves out onto the garden and into more caves to discover the pool and alfresco kitchen that we were truly in love. It is here in the garden we spent much of our time, and our favorite time was in the evening, where you can lounge with wine, enjoy the Italian countryside and listen to the activity from town people in the valley below and the terraced gardens above but none of them are aware of where you are at below the town. Above ground, when you see day-trippers approaching the house to get a view of over the valley below, you look at them with this smug look, knowing of the secret, and that they have no idea what lies beneath their feet. You wanna show the world, but you want to keep it a secret. In the house, from every room you can enjoy ample sunlight and fresh country breezes wafting in through the large windows with incredible views. The entire ‘Domus’ is filled with creative uses of repurposed pieces, some made by Patrizio [owner] himself. Sparse but not spare of personality, quaffed but comfortable, the space is easy to get comfortable in and feel like you are at home. The house itself in the evening provides a wonderful restful sleep from your days adventures into the surrounding areas. In fact you will find it hard to leave so anticipate late starts to your day and early returns to the house to enjoy all it has to offer. Civita Bagnoregino is the quintessential Italian Hilltown, and experiencing the town with a stay at this property will be a memory that will long live fondly in your travel adventures.
