A visiting published writer's description of our vacation rental:
A cobalt blue house stands at the top of a hill, encircled by lush green vegetation, secreted from the rest of the world. A flowing stream cascades from a natural wall of rocks. The little brook snakes around the quaint house. It swirls around an obstacle course of protruding rocks, white caps flowering the rill.
I sit with a captivating book in my hands, basking in the tranquility. Lofi rhythmic music spills into my ears from my headphones, injecting me with the serenity of this little corner of Virginia. Birds whistle jovially in the canopy, the dappled sunlight warms my body, accompanied by a gentle zephyr that toys with my hair, running its wispy fingers through the strands.
I allow myself to devour the scene, to relish the perfect calm that this little house embodies.

the cabin was very far from trail and activities, no view of the mountains
would have been nice of the deck was hosed down, lots of spiderwebs
hornet nest under the deck, hornet stung our 5 pound dog under the eye and nose. the living room needs curtains for summer, sun was beating on us during the day

11 of us stayed comfortably in this well appointed home. We enjoyed the indoor and outdoor space and loved hearing the sounds of the stream during our stay.
Would definitely come back!
Thank you!

The hot tub needed to be cleaned as it smelled weird. It also needed water. This was disappointing, as it was the main reason we booked it. There was trash around the outside of the property, and the property needs updated and a deep cleaning. The ceiling fans were gross. The upstairs TV remote doesn't work. The toilet paper holder in master was broken, we had to put the dishwasher tray wheels back on to get it to work correctly. The kitchen window was open upon arrival. The throw pillows were dirty in the upstairs bedroom. There were mouse droppings in multiple locations (which we understood being in the woods). The home doesn't look like s been stayed in often and needs some love. No kitchen hand soap. Only 1 dishwasher pod. The shelves with games on it is just leaning against the wall and almost fell on one of the kids. Lights on the outside appear broken. Multiple lightbulbs out. The half bath toilet on 2nd floor runs. These are more notes for the owner/property manager so that they can fix these issues. We didn't feel as though the property was worth the price we paid.

Great location, amenities, spacious, responsive and helpful host. Highly recommend this house to large groups or families visiting Wintergreen.

House was a perfect size for 3 large families and children. Amenities within the home were very bare bones compared to other properties that we have stayed. Would definitely come back, but with more of the basics in hand.

We had a very nice stay with family. Plenty of room with lots of beds and restrooms for everyone. The house is very pet friendly although we didn’t have ours on this trip. Kitchen had all the necessary dishes and appliances were up to date. It’s an older home that could use some upgrades outdoors but inside was very comfortable. We enjoyed the hot tub. Close to skiing and restaurants. Creek running along side the house was really nice to see and listen to. Plenty of parking. We’d definitely stay here again.

The kitchen wasn’t very well equipped. Our family enjoys cooking together.
We had issues with the internet as well. One of the shower curtains was too small in one bathroom. Some of the lights didn’t work. Kitchen window wouldn’t shut so you could feel cold air coming in.
Some of the sliding glass doors did not lock. Heat lamps in bathrooms did not work
Not enough towels were provided.
Loved the location but will look for another home next time.

We enjoyed our Girl's Weekend at this lovely house! Well appointed, clean, plenty of towels, extra blankets, kitchen supplies.....and of course the great hot tub. The double-sided fireplace was heavenly! Plenty of room for our group to spread out, and gather. The stream on the property drew in lots of deer. Would definitely book again.

The house is in a great location and has plenty of space for large families/couples. Kitchen is well-stocked with dishes and cookware. While we enjoyed our time with friends, we did experience several issues with the property. Overall cleanliness was an issue and could be improved. There are also several areas in need of maintenance. The bunkbeds in the downstair bedroom are all very loose and wobbly. All of the ladders are broken. This was a big safety concern for us as we were traveling with several young children. The refrigerator capacitor/condenser is going bad & not able to maintain a stable temp (max 51 deg). We sadly used coolers/ice for half our stay to keep perishables cold. Perhaps the biggest disappointment was the hot tub. We booked the house with the hot tub as a main criteria. The hot tub was extremely dirty and would not get above 87 degrees due to multiple clogs and heater issues. The property manager suggested taking the filter out to troubleshoot the heating issue - the filter was filthy and desperately needed to be changed. It was clear that it was not being properly maintained between guests. We did message with the property manger regarding these issues. She was very quick to respond each time which was appreciated but unfortunately was not able to solve any of our issues beyond offering suggestions that involved us taking time out of our weekend getaway to clean/maintain or run to the store for coolers, ice, and Allen wrenches. We would not book again.

We booked last minute, and we were not disappointed with our stay. We had a wonderful time and will definitely book this cabin again. Three of us had birthdays this weekend and this was our annual Birthday Getaway. We recommend this property to others. The only drawback was we had to purchase toilet paper and trash bags. (No biggie) Other than that, our stay was great!!

I must admit I was skeptical that all "kinks" had been worked out on this property. I even contacted the host before I committed, and was assured the home was in great shape. We were not disapponted! We experienced no issues at all. The home was clean, safe and we enjoyed our entire stay. I will say it's not a newer home, which I'm fine with, but it is well maintained and again no issues. The thermostat and heating system was a little tricky, but we figured it out. It was only two of us, but this home can accomodate many people and I could imagine sharing an amazing family get together there in the future.

First of all, don't be worried about previous comments on the cleanliness of the house and about the responsiveness of the management company. They have been addressed. We arrived to a beautifully clean house, and everything was provided as stated. For hiking, the house is in a perfect location. We did a 2.5 mile (strenuous) hike to the waterfall and back from the house. Afterward, the hot tub was wonderful to relax in. The kitchen is great! Plenty of space to cook and to have the whole family present in what is always the central location of any house. The bedrooms were comfortable and had great views, while the common areas were well equipped for relaxing, playing games, or just conversation. The decks are well laid out, and we spend much of our time outside listening to the sound of falling water from the creek next to the property. We brought our two furry family members, and they love to hike on the mountain. By blocking the one stairway off of the deck with a nearby trunk, we could let them have the run of the deck without worrying that they would disappear. The only thing to be aware of is that parking is a bit tight at the end of a very steep uphill driveway. We had two cars, and had to do a lot of maneuvering. Also, there is no cell phone reception, but the wi-fi kept us connected. All in all, we would love to come back! A great place to relax on one of the most scenic mountains around.

Wintergreen, as a destination, was excellent. The home was well laid out for our family- 2 couples, 2 singles. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and had a wonderful family
time together.
HOWEVER! The home is in desperate need of DEEP cleaning - inside as well as outside! In one of the bedrooms the bed linens had not been changed and had disgusting stains on the sheets as well as the bed cover!!
Maintenance of of home is poor - even dangerous. Much of the outside decking boards were covered with peeling paint and/or rotten planks. The grill was so filthy as to be unusable. During a rainstorm Saturday night, a window in the primary bedroom leaked so badly a suitcase was filled with water before it was noticed. In the same bedroom, the shower door fell off the rollers while being used - luckily without injuring the person using it.
The most egregious failing, though, was that the home was without communication of any type!! No cell phone coverage (zero bars!), we were unable to connect to wifi service! No TV- the manager told us " there is no TV service to this property"! There is apparently steaming TV, but w/o wifi or cell service, guess what? No tv. Lastly, there is a land line phone. When you pick up the receiver, you get a dial tone, but quickly get a recording explaining that there is no service to this property! Dangerous, when you think about it all!
I can add to this review, but I think my point is made.
This property is a black eye for the owner but, maybe worst of all, for VRBO!!

Pros
* Location
* Layout of house is great with plenty of room for 7 people
* Huge area to get all ski and snowboarding gear on
* Calming sound of small waterfall area when you sit outside. So lovely!!
* Plenty of room in Kitchen and eating area without feeling cramped
* Beds were really comfortable
Cons
* House was dirty upon arrival
* Beer cans and trash all on side and back of house
* No dish washing detergent provided (listing said it would be)
* Wi-Fi network listed was incorrect
* No blinds or curtains in bottom bunk bedroom. Sun blares through window in am and there was no privacy
* Showers door falling off in bedroom in middle floor bathroom
* Batteries were missing from random TV remotes
* Heating unit in bedroom on top level didn’t work
* Could not figure out where switch was to turn outdoor porch light on and owner didn’t know how either.
When I messaged the owner with questions she had the property manager call me which is totally fair. The property manager was incredibly rude and started our conversation with “What do you want?” and then told me there’s nothing she can do for me about the window treatment and heater. The blanket that we taped to the window was good enough and there are no maintenance people who work on weekends. I asked that she at the very least bring us some dishwashing detergent and hand soap as it was not mentioned that it would not be provided. If it had been I would have brought our own. I then received a message from the owner telling me that the property manager doesn’t live on the mountain and she did us a favor by coming by to provide the soaps as if it’s inconvenience for her. A maintenance man ended up coming by to say that it was fixed but the issue could have easily been solved had the owner or property manager left or shared instructions on how to operate it (apparently it needs to be connected to another heating unit in the house and they somehow woke together?) which weren’t provided until after the main fence man left. How to operate heating and cooling until should be added to house instructions.
Overall this house is great but I was so incredibly disappointed with the experience and our stay was handled that we won’t be returning.

This rental was such a perfect spot for our family to get away and enjoy some time in the mountains.

Great location of house but cleanliness was not good. There were quite a few things in the house that were broken and/or missing. We fixed the trash can mount inside the cabinet and had to purchase a few staple kitchen items such as towels, oven mitts, spatulas and a pitcher. We also purchased 2 new shower curtain liners for 2 of the bathrooms bc they were black mildewed and gross. The house is very dated, which didn't bother us much bc it fit our sized family very well. However, the lack of cleanliness was hard to get past. We left the house cleaner than when we arrived. The broom and vacuum were almost not useable. We enjoyed the fireplace and hot tub, although the hot tub was very dirty and didn't seem to have any chlorine or other chemicals to help it stay clean. It had a very funny odor. Overall, we had a wonderfully memorable stay, and I can't say enough about the great location!

We had a wonderful time here, very spacious, clean, and cozy. The internet only worked on one phone but that wasn’t a big deal. Overall a very nice stay!

We had a larger group stay at the property and it fit all of us perfectly. The massive living room with stone fireplace was our favorite part. The kitchen and dining area is also updated and quite large as well. Will definitely stay here again!

Relaxed in a clean place
This property was all the posting said. It was close to many breweries and wineries and so many really cool hikes. If you did not want to leave the house, deck sitting was perfect.

Couples retreat in the mountains
Our stay was great! The property had minor imperfections on the carpet and some of the appliances, but was still so lovely. We came up for a mountain retreat and the property was perfect. There were 12 of us and we all got comfortable with sleeping situations and places to sit and hangout. The drive is a little terrifying if you aren’t used to driving the mountain side. Also the code we were given did not work but was amended quickly by the property manager. All that being said a great place for a getaway with friends, family, and everyone in between. 4/5 stars will definitely recommend!

Needs to be thoroughly cleaned
Walked in with the smell of urine and dirty carpets covered in stains. There are cracks in the wall and ceiling and there was dog hair everywhere from previous stays. The pans that were provided were almost unusable and the knives were very dull. The hot tub was half empty on arrival. There was old trash that was in the yard when we got there. We were told to leave the house “broom ready” but it wasn’t even that when we arrived.

Nice Retreat
Our family enjoyed our stay. Arrived after it had been snowing and driveway and walkways were cleared. Fireplace was nice with wood supplied. House had multiple options for heating. Enough kitchen items were provided to make meals. Nice place to come back to after day of skiing.

Wonderful vacation getaway
Our family had a great time staying here. It's spacious and conveniently situated on the mountain. Our family took advantage of both the hot tub and fireplace and had a wonderful week together. Julia was very responsive to issues we experienced with the hot tub and they were addressed in short order. All in all, we had a very pleasant stay!

Great getaway
We had a very easy time checking in. The house was fairly clean when we got there we could tell the people that had been there before had some kind of celebration as there was confetti on the deck and some on the carpet. The beds were clean and house smelled clean. The only complaint was the master bathroom shower door was broken and kept falling off the track. I noticed when we got there the grill cover was ripped. The kitchen was stocked nicely with cooking utensils. We loved the location. It was a little tricky figure out the heating but we got it and the house worked wonderful for all 13 of us. Hot tub worked great. Would recommend leaving chorine tablets for guests to put in if they plan on using the for a week. But other then that really enjoyed ourselves.

Nice house and location -- but needs deep cleaning and aesthetic/structural maintenance
The positives are that the house is spacious and the kitchen is well designed for enjoying meals. Also, the owner and property managers were responsive to issues we had upon checking in (broken lamp needed to be replaced, two lights out in top floor bathroom, there wasn't any dishwasher soap, and it wasn't obvious how to use the remotes for the heat). The owner was also responsive to our request for a late check-out (provided because no one was checking in behind us). After our stay, I sent the owners an email to advise them of our concerns and hoped to hear back before writing this review, but I did not get a response.
The negatives for this VRBO rental was that there weren't any dish towels, had I known these would not be provided, I would have brought my own as I was informed I would need extra towels for showering (one per guest was provided by rental) and for the hot tub. I also was not aware that there would not be any dishwashing soap (I was advised dishwasher soap would be provided which was not until the property manager provided me with enough for the weekend). Although the kitchen was attractive, a closer look revealed that the utensil drawers were dirty and many of the pans were unusable due to scratches. The shower/tub in the master bedroom was in dire need of recaulking due to the mildew and mold. Some of the walls in the home needed repainting and the fans needed to be cleaned. The deck around the house was in need of paint/stain and some of the wood around the hot tub was rotting which was worrisome for safety reasons.
The wood floors had some deep scratches and the carpets needed a thorough cleaning. We also discovered later that the lights in the basement bathroom (entrance level) were not working.
If this home gets a deep cleaning and does some repairs/painting, it can be a nice rental for a family.

Overall a nice property. Plenty of space with large patio/deck space for grilling, etc. Our family enjoyed our time here.

Great spot! The property is beautiful and secluded. Layout of the house is great, it really just needs a few little simple things and updates to be perfect.

Perfect for all ages
We gathered our family from all over the country for a week in the mountains. It was a magical visit with a small waterfall literally right next door - perfect for the toddlers and small kids to play in. The space allowed for privacy for 4 generations with the little ones on the main floor in awesome bunk beds, with their parent's next door. The main floor had a bedroom near all the "action" for the next generation, and the great grandmother had a place to herself on the top floor. It was topped off by having a small black bear (prevalent) walk by just as we were leaving ;-) The advice about no food is not a joke... they are very docile but are really here ;;-) It completed a great week here!

Nice for large family
Overall a positive experience. Deck and grill areas delightful (cool, shaded, roomy). Main living/dining/kitchen areas worked very well for 6 adults and 4 active boys under age 7.
Bedrooms on upper 2 levels nice but once the sun comes up, you are up as the windows coverings are very sheer and do not cover all the windows.
Lowest level a little darker in the mornings, but smelled musty.
WiFi in house good for those who had to work during their vacation - upper level desk area a nice surprise.
3.0
Dated but nice property
When you stay, realize that this is an older home showing its age. Some paint is peeling and some things are broken. For instance, you had to be careful with the shower door in one of the bathrooms or it would fall into the tub. The hot tub was working, but when it overflowed, due to it being over filled, it caused the GFI to break and we could not reset until everything dried out after 12 hours. We did a bucket brigade of some of the water the next morning and that seemed to fix it.
The kitchen was missing some essentials like dish towels and plastic spatulas for the pots and pans, but there was plenty of utensils for the grills.
The "private" waterfall that is listed is not really accessible through the undergrowth and not visible from the deck / house.
The cleanliness was a bit of a concern as an old razor was in one of the showers so we weren't sure if everything was cleaned before we got there, but the sheets and towels seemed to be freshly laundered.
The bottom line is that we liked the house, we enjoyed our stay, and we could overlook the cosmetic blemishes.
One final note: like the house, the Wintergreen Resort also seems to be showing it's age and a bit rough around the edges.

Lots of room
We had a great time. And got to bring our dogs. There was plenty of room for all our guests. Great location. My only complaint would be the hot tub did not work, which we were looking forward to.

Nice house, with issues
We stayed at this property in June for a family get together with 4 couples, one child, and a dog. The house has a great layout for multiple couples and the abundance of bathrooms and deck space insured everyone had plenty of space. Although we had a good time, the stay was marred by several issues. On the first day, we discovered that the house had a mouse problem. Multiple kitchen cabinets had mouse droppings so we had to haul everything out to clean the pots and pans. After attempting to use the vacuum cleaner, we discovered it was fully clogged and had to be disassembled and cleared before we could use it to clean out the cabinets. We had several actual mouse sightings during the week. In multiple discussions with the owner and property manager, the response was pretty much, “We live in the mountains, you’re going to see mice. We have a pest service.” Apparently, the pest service isn’t quite up to the task. There is a nice hot tub, which we looked forward to using but couldn’t. The temp would never go above 80. The maintenance man came out several times and pronounced it fixed but it never heated up. After discussing with the property manager, it was suggested that I get on the phone with the pool/spa company to trouble shoot the issue with the possibility of pulling the filter. I really had other things to do on vacation rather than spend an hour on the phone with the pool guy. On our last full day, a guy from the spa company came out and said the filter was hopelessly clogged. He had removed it and said the water would heat but we couldn’t use the jets. The last issue was the overall cleanliness of the house. The carpets were in pretty bad shape with extensive staining and soiling. The owner did offer to refund the cleaning fee, but for a property described as recently renovated, this was not acceptable.
Other maintenance issues. We had to disassemble the freezer ice maker because a prior guest had left a plastic bag in the ice bin which had gotten sucked into the auger. The latch on the living room sliding door was broken. An Adirondack chair on the deck was broken. A shower door in the first floor bathroom came off it’s rail.

Perfect "lazy weekend" stay!
Had a wonderful time lounging around the house with the family! Large family room for movie nights and lots of space for everyone to do their own thing throughout the day! The hot tub was the PERFECT way to end the day after a good hike around the many trails around! Everyone loved the place and had a wonderful time!
