About this house rental
Summary:
No Stock Ranch: Two-bedroom two bath vacation home with large porch on a secluded ranch property.
• Comfortable Home on 20 Private Acres
• Amazing Mountain Views from Porch
• Spacious Covered Porch
• Covered Parking and Central Heat & Air
The Space:
No Stock Ranch is a comfortable two-bedroom vacation rental home on a twenty-acre Terlingua Ranch property. Originally built as a retirement home and family retreat, the owner has decided to share it as a vacation rental. Guests are invited to make No Stock Ranch their home away from home in the Big Bend region. Just thirty minutes from Big Bend National Park and the Terlingua Ghost Town.
Located on 20 secluded acres, this property provides a measure of solitude and serenity that is rare in the modern world. Relax on the porch swing while watching the stars or go for a quiet walk through the arroyo, down the ranch roads, or up the scenic hill. Sleep well in the comfortable beds. Share meals prepared in the full kitchen or charcoal grill. Take the short drive to Big Bend National park, the Rio Grande River, or the famous Terlingua Ghost Town.
The full kitchen is stocked with everything the typical family or small group will need for cooking meals or making drinks. There is also plenty of space for putting away your groceries. The kitchen is open to the living room and the dining area, allowing for time together when meals are being prepared. The living room has a large sofa, a relaxing easy chair, and barrel chair, plus a flat screen television with DirecTV.
There are two bedrooms. The master has a king-size bed plus a flat screen television with DirecTV. The guest bedroom has a queen-size bed. There are also two full bathrooms.
The rear deck faces south for sunrise and sunset views and overlooks White Mill Creek. It is partly covered for shade and partly open for enjoying the starry night skies. White Mill Creek is a heavily vegetated arroyo that is mostly dry except for during and after heavy rains. It creates a haven for desert wildlife, including birds, rabbits, mule deer, javelina, foxes, bobcats, and much more. The area around the house is landscaped with native plants and stone walkways. The area is very rugged, so enjoy the diverse terrain but watch your step.
Relax around the house, explore the property, or head out to Big Bend National Park, the river, or the Ghost Town. No Stock Ranch is the ideal home away from home. We’ll be pleased to have you as our guests.
The Neighborhood:
TERLINGUA RANCH: Located between Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park and including much of the town of Terlingua, Terlingua Ranch is a private subdivision of over 190,000 acres, divided into 9,500 tracts owned by about 5,000 individuals and crisscrossed by 1,100 miles of dirt and rock roads. Tracts range from five acres to several hundred acres. It is some of the most rugged and scenic land in Texas.
Back in the 1960’s, the Ghost Town and much of what later became “Terlingua Ranch” was owned by racing legend and car designer extraordinaire, Carol Shelby and some of his friends. The decided to promote the area by holding a chili cook-off in the then abandoned Ghost Town. That little stunt of a cook-off grew into CASI (Chili Appreciation Society International) which now hosts nearly 500 chili cook-offs around the nation and internationally, all leading up the championship cook-off every year in Terlingua. Shelby and friends later subdivided the Ranch and started selling it off to hunters and rugged naturalists. Over the decades, the area was reborn and an eclectic community of nature lovers, artists, musicians, adventurers, and folks just wanting to escape from “civilization” has grown and started to resettle this rough country.
People have come and gone. New buildings have risen while others have fallen, Dreams have been realized and others crushed. Through it all, the land remains. The harsh desert and vast openness encourages positive development and slowly swallows up and recovers from past abuses. The old cinnabar mine sites and ranching outposts persist as relics and ghost towns, some redeveloped, some carefully preserved, and others dissolving back into the desert. Abandoned dreams eventually become points of interests for those of us that stumble upon them decades later. Terlingua Ranch is a bizarre mix of old and new, good and bad, growth and decline, all completely unregulated. Modern homes with high values and stunning designs stand beside dilapidated do-it-yourself mistakes and abandoned ruins of the 1800’s and early 1900’s.
The landscape is even more varied than the people and the structures. Rugged mountains, deep canyons, wild arroyos, dry and wet creeks, peaceful valleys, breathtaking badlands, moonscape like mud flats, the remains of ancient volcanoes, and fossilized ancient seabeds. All of it nurturing a vast array of plant life and wildlife. Around every corner and over every hill lies new and unexpected surprises.
The Ranch is now home to a few hundred hardy souls. It is also dotted with a diverse array of vacation rental lodging options and campsites. Like the diverse land, they range in quality, style, value, and price. A few are amazing dream destinations. Some are good places to sleep. Others are the stuff of nightmares. (We don’t manage any in the nightmare category.)
Big Bend Vacation Rentals started out in 2007 and initially managed three of the first four vacation rentals in the Terlingua and Terlingua Ranch area. We now manage dozens out of a couple of hundred options. We represent dozens of property owners and have hosted tens of thousands of guests. You can trust us as managers, and you can rely on the properties that we manage. We have become very selective about the properties and the property owners that we add to our portfolio. Very clean and cozy stay! Perfect location for a quiet day and night setting. Kitchen is fully stocked and we were thankful for the provided drinking water.
The back porch has wonderful views during the day and is perfect for stargazing at night. I would suggest driving up to the property for the first time while it’s light outside (since it’s not on the GPS). After you’ve driven it once, it’s super easy to get to day or night thanks to the owner’s detailed instructions.

We were impressed by all the kitchen amenities. The open porch let us see so many stars which we appreciated. We saw quail and heard other wildlife at night. The rooms were comfortable. Our only suggestion for improvement is for lounge chairs, where you could lie down on the open porch, and then look at stars while lying down. The ranch was convenient to Big Bend, but it was far enough out to get away.

It was perfect and relaxing. It stayed cool inside in the hottest part of the day. My advice is to come in a little earlier the road becomes hard to see at night. But gorgeous overall.

The house was cozy, comfortable & clean! The view off the back porch was spectacular. Convenient to Terlingua & the park. Fairly easy to get to. Road is a little rough going in but doable. Enjoyed our stay very much!!

We were extremely happy with this house as our base camp for our time at Big Bend. The house is in a tricky location (and not GPS reliable) but the instructions provided by the property managers were so specific and helpful in getting there. Daryl was quickly accessible and immediately responsive to fix this. The view from the porch for sunrise and sunset is peaceful and beautiful, and the stars at night were amazing. The house and beds were comfy and kitchen was well-stocked for us to prepare several meals. Highly recommend this rental!

Daryl & Janet were great host. They communicated well and everything was ready when we arrived. No issues. The views from the property are amazing, especially at night. I wish I could add pictures to my review. We had so much fun calling No Stock ranch our home for a week and it was way too short!!

Great setup for my wife and toddler. Property is as described in the listing, good communication with host. We saw lots of wildlife around and could just walk down the deck steps to explore a little of the desert. Very quiet, great stars at night and sunrises in the morning. I would not hesitate to book as a base camp for exploring the big bend park and area.

We did so enjoy our stay at the No Stock Ranch. The home was highly comfortable with quality furnishings and wall art. There was a porch on each side of the house offering different and beautiful views. Location was ideal for visiting Big Bend. There were a few issues however, which we made the management company aware of stating that they could be handled upon our departure. Two emails and one text later we heard back though they stated they had responded to our initial email. They told us that they would make the cleaning crew aware

Nice 2 bedroom 2 bath house. Amazed at the water pressure and views from the back porch. A little out of the way, but worth the drive.

The property was emasculate when we arrived and was well stocked. The check-in instructions / directions to the property were very helpful. You are about 20 miles from Big Bend, but the scenery around No Stock Ranch and to the park is amazing.
I have lived in Texas for several years and never realized that Texas has 7800 ft mountains. During our stay, there was some rain, and it was also amazing to see some of the cactus flower.
We also were able to see local fauna from the deck, the gopher really put on a show. In the evening we enjoyed the sunsets while relaxing on the deck and the sunsets were some of the best we have experienced (No light pollution).
All in all, we enjoyed our stay at Big Bend and No Stock ranch.

Great Choice to Stay for Big Bend
Absolutely beautiful location that’s secluded away. Great views at the property alone, not far at all from Big Bend. Stars at night are amazing!

Perfect week
Property is just as listed. The covered porch is the star attraction...beautiful view. Perfect place to start and end the day. About 30 mins to Terlingua and Big Bend. We had a great week exploring the area.

Great Basecamp
A great place to relax and unwind after a great day of hiking and enjoying the Big Bend area. Not likely to be disturbed by any of the far away neighbors. Hosts were easy to work with and checked in to make sure we were well situated.

Pleasant Stay
Our time at No Stock Ranch was pleasant. Quiet days and nights. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Thank you for the store of water, since we were asked not to drink from the faucets. We would stay again.

Exceeded my expectations
It was nice to get away from the city (Dallas) and be in the middle of nowhere surrounded by mountains. The sunrise and sunsets from the back porch were beautiful. The night sky was full of stars that were big and bright, amazing!
The home had everything we needed and was very clean. My children (5,7,11) and I enjoyed every minute of our stay and plan to come back in the future.
Lastly, Big Bend National Park entrance was around 45 minutes away from the home.

Beautiful Land
We were awestruck with the views. The land and property views are beautiful. It would have been just fine, perfect, staying in the home but we did travel to other areas. The home is a perfect location for hitting some of the sites of beautiful west Texas. If you've never been to the area and look at pictures online, they are nothing like with what you will see around you at the property, at Big Bend Parks or at Santa Elena. I highly recommend this property. Owners are very communicative. Thank you so much!

This property was perfect for the first leg of our epic Texas road trip. Secluded, clean, roomy, well stocked with amenities and comfy beds. Especially appreciated the recliner and cushioned couches after long hiking and kayaking days. No trouble with wifi, or power outages. Only 40 minutes from Big Bend National Park entrance, 30 minutes to Terulinga. Property is about 8 miles from 118 , small part is not paved but presented no problem for our SUV. Water for showers, dishes etc was collected rain water so host requests water conservation practices, which were not difficult to comply with and actually was a good reminder that we shouldn't take our resources for granted. Drinking water was provided in one gallon jugs. There was enough stock when we arrived at the property for cooking and coffee for our 4 day stay, but we supplemented with purchased water for our trips into the national park. Highly recommend! Loved the deck. Did not use grill or chiminea.

Exactly as advertised, clean and comfortable with an awesome deck for enjoying the view and amazing night sky. I was also impressed with Daryl and Janet's management of the property.

This place is perfect to getaway from the city, to enjoy the nature and the skies. Everything is as advertised (if not, even better than). Reasonably close to the Big Bend National Park and the property mangers were great, provided all the instructions and other stuff we needed for our stay there. The porch and the grill on it are the best part.

A very nice place for a quiet vacation in Big Bend area
We totally enjoyed the trip. The owner/manager is super easy to work with. We enjoyed the quiet surrounding and use it as the base to go to Big Bend National Park and Study Butte/Terlingua.
The house is clean and mostly updated. It took us about 40 minutes to go the the front gate of the Big Bend NP. I would definitely come back next time when we are in the area.

Great place to visit BigBend National Park or just stay to see stars
We are glad that we choice this place instead of staying at Park's hotel. After day long mountain hiking, we can prepare hot meals and enjoy hot water, roomy spaces. Also looking up shiny stars from patio in a super peaceful night is a wonderful experience. We had a great stay here and hopefully we will be back soon.

Perfect spot for visiting Big Bend
Enjoyed four nights here with our family of four. Only a short drive off the paved roads, though a high clearance vehicle was helpful. Comfortable beds, plush towels and blankets and awesome water pressure made for a nice relaxing spot after days out exploring. Kitchen had all the basics needed. Had one power outage for a couple of hours one evening, but the property managers communicated quickly with us and the electric company.
It took us about 40 minutes to Terlingua and another 15-20 to the park entrance. Property manager’s guidance before we got there (where to shop, get gas, etc) was very helpful since the area is VERY remote. WiFi worked perfectly and we had some cell coverage from both AT&T and Verizon when we were at the house. Beautiful views from the porch for both sunrise and sunset!

We love the place but I am going to start looking at other options. After you add all the “fees” the price is very expensive. We have rented places five times this year and I think four of them were with you. The price is getting out of my budget for the amount of times we visit.
