Of course, the Guesthouse is not comparable to a 3Stars hotel but when you come to this kind of place, Ciza e Rose is exactly the kind of Guesthouse you expect! Rose was born here, he is the right man at the right place and his family is very nice. Rose can speak many languages, including french. The rooms are simple but have all you need. They are big, quiet and all around a patio. Board games are available and we could play Awale and learn a new way to play with Michael, the son.
The breakfast was really good and a bit different each day, with cakes...
We got a lot of explanations from Rose, who is also a guide if you need.
Communication was really easy with them, even before arriving. A "collectivos" picked us up at the airport and Rose organized another one to drop us to Sao Filipe.
We eat at the Guesthouse in the evenings. At midday, we went several times to Isabel Restaurant ( actually Isabel is Rose's sister but we didn't know it the first time!). By the way, Rose has 6 brothers/sisters at Portela.
Nothing... We cannot find... maybe because the place is our " coup de Coeur" and we had really good time at "Ciza e Rose" !

An attractive room, looking out on the crater: lounges to relax on outside. Also enjoyed the meals we had here. But the best part of our stay was having Rose guide us to the lava cave. He explained so much and was very patient with our frequent stops at one stage. He also ensured that we caught early morning transport for a flight from San Filipe..

Great place to sleep when visiting portela. Rose is a really nice guy who know so much about the area (also a guide for the pico!!) and makes you feel so welcome at his place + the village. Rooms are comfy and surroundings are astonishing, so when you make plans to visit the island of fogo make sure you spend more then just one night in here! Many walks and other things to see on this part of the island ❤
Ciza and Rose also have a restaurant.... Make sure you don't miss out on their dish chicken cooked in azedinha jam, it's so yummy!!!!!!!😊
Nothing at all!
Just make sure you read the description of the place well. At this moment there are no hot showers and no wifi, but there are plans for this in the future. The environment is so intriguing, I promise you you will not need wifi anyways and the shower will be a nice thing to cool you down once you arrived back from the pico (or a different hike) 😃

We had an amazing time in Chã das Caldeiras with Ciza, Rose and their family. They are fantastic hosts who welcome and care for their guests with genuine hospitality. Rose took us up and down Pico de Fogo on a spectacular journey to remember forever. Ciza cooked comforting homemade meals that kept us going. We absolutely hope to visit again.

Ciza and Rosy were so attentive and welcoming. They helped me arrange transport from the airport to Cha and back to the airport at the end of my stay. Breakfast and dinner was very tasty. My room was clean and pleasant. They helped me arrange a guided hike to the peak of the volcano. They are centrally located in Cha and I could buy water and snacks nearby and souvenirs. I had such a wonderful stay with them

Great people to stay with. Hospitality A+! Good breakfast & other meals. Very quiet place.

I highly recommend Ciza and Rose's place to everyone. The setting is incredible and a must-see in Cape Verde. Rosy took me up the volcanoes on a guided tour and told me all about the history of the villages - this was excellent. The room was comfortable, the bathroom was extremely clean and the food good. All the people of the villages are extremely friendly and to top it all off, Rosy arranged a lift for me back to Sao Filipe, so I wouldn't have to pay the full aluguer fare as a solo traveller. I am so glad I went and cannot praise it highly enough - 10/10.

This one of the most interesting and beautiful places on earth! And if you want to experience it authentically, the home of Ciza and Rose is the best place for that! The best hosts we experienced in Cabo Verde!
4.5
Rose and his family are amazing! You have all that you need for your stay in the region and Rose is also the best guide for adventures around. The food was very delicious. They are working hard to make your stay as lovely as possible. As it is getting dark and quiet pretty early a lounge or coach to chill on would have been the last missing puzzle piece. (But Ia m sure, Rose is already planning)

You're on one of the more remote islands of Cape Verde, far away from the main village, Sao Felipe, inside a Caldeira on a former lava flow looking at Pico do Fogo. What Cisa and Rose have built in this environment is just mind blowing. They make you feel at home at an extraordinary place. Delicious food, wonderful mountain guide, all contributes to an unforgettable holiday!
Absolutely nothing!

The owners Ciza and Rose were extremely helpful in the lead up to our stay. A conference call was arranged by their part to let us know what we should bring for our hike of Pico de Fogo and what to expect during our stay. Ciza helped put me in contact with a car rental company. Ciza can speak French and Rose can speak English well. Location is excellent if hiking Pico de Fogo. The location of the village where your stay is surreal. The price point of accomodation is very friendly.
One must understand where this village (Cha das Caldeiras) is located. There is no public water (rain water is collected). We knew in advance there would be no hot water for showering but honestly the water was not even cold (it was mildly warm and refreshing). The shower in our private room unfortunately did not work well so we used a different common shower. There was a resident in the village that was blasting techno music late in the night that you could partially hear in your room but this is no fault of Ciza and Rose.

Ciza and Rose are wonderful humans. Smiles and passion are awaiting you. Their home is super comfy. Precious water for the shower is warm only on afternoon. Perfect after long hikes. Rich breakfast or picknick. Good coffee and delicious meals.
We had a wonderful time. Super quiet environment. Sky full of stars. Interesting histories. Friendly people around.

Dinnner was served in a cold room which was the central hall with entry doors to the rooms. In the evening temperatures drop in the caldeira and part of the room had an external opening through which cold air came

Amazing location in the caldeira of the Fogo volcano. Very friendly. Clean and comfortable room. Excellent breakfast served outside overlooking the Volcao de Fogo.
Wifi and hot water (if you need it).

We spent 3 days in this brand new hotel, with the best location in Cha das Caldeiras. The hotel also has an outside restaurant with the best view ever. The room was large, clean and the bed very comfortable. The new bathroom was perfect. Rose is a very good guide who speaks English and French fluently. And since he is born in the crater he can tell you about the volcanic events and everything else. Ciza served us very good homemade food. Chicken with white creamy sauce was my favorite. Even if you don't want to climb Pico de Fogo, don't miss the chance of staying in this hotel to see the sunrise behind the vulcano and the fantastic bright stars at night. And there are plenty of smaller vulcanos to climb. Thanks for having us!

The owners are absolute top! Incredibly helpful and will make your stay a one of a kind experience.

This is an amazing place to stay if you want to experience real life in a vulcano crater and like to be close to the local community. Rose and Ciza are very kind and humble hosts. We climbed the vulcano with Rose as a guide and it was amazing. He speaks French, English and Portuguese fluently and had guiding in the training. It's tough climbing, be aware if you suffer from vertigo don't go! Rose roasts local coffee at home and will do a local wine tasting if you want, really worthy! Ciza can prepare good meals with local produce as well. Great experience!
Nothing not to like. This is a small village with humble people in a vulcano crater, so don't expect any luxuries but what you get back has no price. You will need to be flexible with transportation to and from Cha das Caldeiras. But if you willing to hire a private taxi you will have no problems.

Where do we begin? We loved every second of our stay with Cize and Rosy. They arranged our transport from the airport, welcomed us with open arms and served us delicious meals.
The rooms are basic but super clean. No hot water (you won’t need it after climbing Pico Fogo) but it can be heated on request.
Rosy took us up to the volcano. He is an excellent guide who speaks English very well, as well as French and Portuguese obviously. Cize is a sweet hostess and an excellent chef.
On our second and last night we had dinner with the whole family. Everyone was so kind and funny — the kids are so polite and smart. It was a joy!
Everyone considering a trip to Fogo: don’t hesitate and book here.

Good and clean accommodation on the foot of the volcano run by a nice local family at a very affordable price. The nights are so quiet and you can see endless stars for a good night sleep. Ciza cooks delicious fresh meals, a satisfying breakfast is included. Rose is a great guide up the volcano and has many other trips in store for you. Be sure to ask about the via ferrata. They can arrange your transportation from the airport or port. Wifi works well, but is a phone hotspot, so it's only on on request. The bathroom has only cold water, but hot water can be prepared on request. The days are warm, but bring a sweater and warm socks as it gets cold at night. Keep in mind, the whole village had to evacuate in 2015 and they are still rebuilding. Your stay helps the whole community.

It was such a wonderful to stay at Ciza and Roso. I felt like the part of the family. Roso is a very good guide, he can switch from Portugues to French and then to English. Ciza is such a lovely lady always helpful and smiling. The place is very clean and tidy. Ciza is a great cook and you should definitely taste her food.
Roso took us also for wine tasting, the next day we climbed the vulcano and the last day we went to see lava cakes. So I would definitely recommend stay at least for two nights. I had also a lot of fun with kids Naomi, Rozi and Michael, the last day we played games outside. There is not hot water, but that’s what gives you real experience! Such an amazing stay!

Would absolutely recommend to stay there! It's a private accommodation in a family home with amazing hosts! They designed their house with a lot of thought and attention to detail and keep it perfectly clean. We had a yummy dinner together with the whole family and played Uno afterwards. They can also organize a hiking guide, transport etc. if needed.
All in all a perfect stay!

I felt very welcome from the first minute I arrived at the nice family guesthouse in the beautiful and impressive vulcano village of Cha das Caldeiras.
Very comfortable bed and clean bathroom.
Amazing view through window.
The guesthouse is also a restaurant with very tasty and fresh menus cooked daily by Cize the host lady.
The host Rosy is also a tourguide you can book him directly to hike up to the Pico. He shows and tells you everything about the last eruption in 2014 and their life after. Both interesting and touching.
Pick up from and to Sao Felipe (ferry) by colectivo was very well organised in advance.
Nothing!!!
Everything was absolutely perfect and it is a magic place!
I will come back ;)
