About this house rental

Built in the 1920s for Captain Myron Garrish, this historic island home has been enlarged and completely renovated down to the studs. The foundation has been raised, the ceiling has been raised, and now it is time to raise your expectations for a pleasant and comfortable step back in time on the island’s most historic sandy lane. Snuggled within the ancient live oaks, Howard St is a quiet and peaceful place on the island, yet this home is located just steps away from restaurants, shops and the magical Silver Lake harbor. Right next door is our other home, the beloved Elsie’s House, so you have the opportunity to rent both if you need more space for larger family gatherings. Featuring open living space, 3 comfortable bedrooms, and luxury baths we believe you will feel at home as soon as you walk in. The front porch will be your perch to relax and become an O’Cocker, even if it’s just for a little while. Come enjoy!

This is house is a very special place. All the details that Kathy and her family poured into it doesn’t go unnoticed. The street Myron’s place is on is our favorite. We look forward to returning every year!

We traveled to Ocracoke following our wedding in Beaufort for a short “familymoon” - as we brought along our 1yo daughter. The island was the perfect spot for such an occasion, as it lends itself well to the desired slower-paced moments we craved. It was beautiful and as relaxing as it can get with a 1yo! The home itself was very clean, very comfortable, and filled with beautiful history. We loved the location on Howard Street, close to town and everything you need. There is construction going on next door with a renovation, but our baby slept through the noise. That’s all you can ask for! We look forward to another October trip when our daughter is a bit older and would definitely stay at this lovely property again.

This property was just right for our family of 5, with a 13 year old son & adult daughters. The kitchen had what we needed to cook the meals we had prepared ahead & to dine comfortably. With its historic charm, ship lap & bead board details we were all comfortable & content in this house. The large porch got much use during our stay as well!

We loved the house, so well done! All you needed was available and the house is conveniently located. The neighborhood had a quirky charm and history that we greatly appreciated. We couldn’t be happier with our stay and time in Ocracoke made even more special with this charming cottage.

The history of the house is told through out with information, and decor. Very comfortable stay. Loved the porch and outside shower!!! The location is on an historic street, very well known on the island. We enjoyed ghost walk, golf cart riding, lighthouse, Springers point, just to mention a few activities. Would definitely recommend and plan to visit again.

We spent a long weekend on Ocracoke (4 adults, 2 three year old boys) and had a wonderful time! The house is small but we didn't need much space, just somewhere to regroup between activities on the island. The outdoor shower was AMAZING, I don't think anyone used the indoor shower during our trip. Super close to everything Ocracoke has to offer, other than the beach we either walked or biked everywhere. There was plenty of space under the porch to keep four bikes and a kid's bike trailer. We didn't cook but the kitchen was well stocked for breakfast cereal and making sandwiches for the beach. Having a washer and dryer was great for cleaning up towels and messy kid's clothes. There are a lot of stairs going up to the house, so might not be a great choice if you've got mobility issues. For our group it was perfect and we will be back!

The owner was accommodating, and the check-in was very convenient. The location is nice, well within walking distance of sights, seafood, and ice cream. It's just a short drive to the beach.
