About this house rental

This new home is in a newly developed residential neighbor built on SW side of Cedar Rapids. An open floor plan with vaulted ceilings, 2 bathrooms, 2 bedrooms, full kitchen, living room and 2-car garage. Lovely fireplace, patio and backyard. Only a 6 minute drive to Menards, Walmart, JC Penney countless restaurants and the public library branch; 12 minutes to airport; 16 minutes to downtown Cedar Rapids; 23 minutes to Amana Colonies and 30 minutes to Downtown Iowa City and the University of Iowa and Hospitals.

Property was as described. Mattresses were comfortable and pillows were too. It's clear that this home is taken care of as it should be.

My roommate and I are travel nurses. Housing was very limited in this area due to a storm last year and so we had to pay more than usual. I will start with the pro's: *new and safe neighborhood of mostly condos *clean *overall nice place CONS: *first and foremost the owner is not business savvy and should not be a landlord. She is very difficult to work with. Several times tried to increase the rent mid lease. She does not speak English and can only communicate by text. *owner tried to get us to commit personally instead of vrbo right from the beginning. When we refused to do so she got snippy but still agreed to let us stay. Our nursing contracts got extended and when I contacted the owner to see if we could extend she would only agree to do so outside of vrbo. We were stuck in a hard spot so we agreed (worst decision and lesson learned). Things went to hill after this! *The back bedroom and bathroom are freezing cold when the rest of the house is warm, even with all of the vents open. When I contacted the owner she stated it was a fault of the builders, nothing she could do about it. *I only live 2 hours away so went home on weekends. When I returned after being gone for a weekend I found water standing in bathroom and carpet in bedroom. I notified owner right away. She had some guy call me that apparently takes care of those things and he stated it could wait until the next day. I soaked up as much as I could with towels and turned on box fans. It was from a leak under the bathroom sink. (probably from freezing temps!) Serve pro came out and set up 4 loud machines and she notified me that I could not sleep in there for 48 hours but refused to return my money for 2 nights and said that I could sleep with my roommate or on the couch. On the day of check out she came in bringing some strange man with her to "assess the water damage" and stated that I would not get my five hundred dollar deposit back because of water damage. When I stated that I did not cause the sink to leak, she came back with "I have a one thousand dollar insurance deductible and you should have had renters insurance." *The entire stay was horrible and I would not recommend a long stay here. Maybe ok for short stay.

This was a great experience! My sister and I are seniors. Mom is in memory care so we needed a place that we could relax and still be close to mom. We each had our own rooms and bathrooms and great space for cooking and relaxing. We will stay here again.

We enjoyed our trip. The location was great. The layout was good. A couple of little things: the master bedroom was cold and no hand towels. Nice to have a 2 car garage.
