This is a beautiful property, so clean and the surrounding gardens are lush and full of flowers and birds. Well set up and we had nothing missing. A deal for the price. As there were only the two of us we didn’t use the ohana, but this place would have been roomy for 5-6 people. We really loved it here. Restful and quiet. We hope to come again!

You know you are in Hawaii when you enter this yard.
It is beautiful and has so many different trees and plants.
The house is large and we loved the layout of the open living room and kitchen. The owners are quick to respond to any questions you may have. We wish them all the best in the future. Thank you so much for sharing your home .

Stay was wonderful!! The house had everything we needed and was close to many beaches and stores. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!!

It was just what we wanted -- feels secluded in the jungle. Coqui frogs are very loud most of the night.

Cute but roomy house for family and friends. Quiet and peaceful neighborhood. Hosts were responsive. We had a great stay.

Loved the secluded feel of th property, how it was surrounded by Hawaiian foliage and a ways back from the road! Beautiful spot! Would definitely recommend!

Unbelievable beauty, so much better than the photos can show! Plants, flowers, geckos, birds and their songs… whether outside or inside the home. The night sounds, especially the coqui frogs are very loud, so although charming bring earplugs to help sleep.
Great open layout, comfortable beds/bedding and pillows. Well stocked kitchen, towels and extra bedding if needed.
Mahalo for sharing your Ohana with us, we are blessed and grateful!

When we first got here we couldn’t get ahold of anyone to get missing lock box code. Finally got a response about 8 hrs after asking for and finding out after leaving several messages with the listed contact we later found out she had passed away 2 months previously. We really liked the location and the place itself it really just needs a little updating the sheets, pillows and mattress covers all have mildew smell and mold spots on them. Anyway we did have a good visit any hopefully this doesn’t come across as complaining but more helpful to help get place in order for next family.

The house and property were stunning. The house was dirty with mold and mildew and smelled strongly of it. The linens were stained. You cannot drink the faucet water or brush your teeth with it because the rainwater is filtered but not purified. We didn’t realize this until reading the book in the house on day 3 because nothing warned us anywhere else. There is no cell service at the property so only wifi cell phone usage available. Overall a very nice place to stay but you can tell it hasn’t been getting the air circulation or sanitation it needs.

Despite the terrible stretch of bad weather, Mark & Sandy’s home was a wonderful home base. We loved playing card games and Yahtzee they provided and listening to the rain & frogs was very magical!
The yard is so lush and the fruit was yummy. We were a group of 7 (2 families) and utilized both the main house and ohana. It was perfect for our needs and we have no complaints. Thank you!

Aloha the yard is amazing. The house worked great for my auntie Patti & her daughter and son in law. The small studio was great for my daughter & son in law. The small studio could use a couch instead of a futon. They also would have done the dishes in the studio if the had been any soap but there was no hand or dish soap. My auntie Patti daughter was caught off guard when a yard guy showed up to do work during there stay said he was there to work but went after her over the catchment water use. She was doing a load of laundry at the time & washer was filling. It was a little unsettling for her. For auntie Patti & her daughter it was there very first time ever renting a vacation rental. Very green newbies to vacation rental life. But over all they loved your place it worked wonderfully for everyone. I would love to rent it again if grandma make 101. I really just wanted to let you know about what happened. Thank so much your yard and deck are amazing! Amber

Really enjoyed our month long stay at Hale Lezard. The house is secluded and very private.
Beds are comfortable and the kitchen is well
equipped. The lanai is a great place for your morning coffee- some big comfy chairs out there would be awesome!!!! Needs some updating but otherwise very comfortable!

We used this amazing house as our base for a week on the Big Island. We did not spend much time sitting around the comfy living room since we were out and about. (Volcanoes NP is close as is Pahoa and Hilo, but we also enjoyed day trips from here to the Kona Coast a few times, since we didn’t mind the 2 hour drive. It doesn’t look like home!) We did enjoy cooking breakfast and hanging in the open kitchen quite a bit. The kitchen was nicely stocked and the fridge was great. There was plenty of space for the 5 of us. The bedrooms were spacious. Someone mentioned just a tub in the master bath but it wasn’t a problem, as we just used the other bathroom when we wanted a shower. The Ohana was a wonderful place to house an accompanying friend. There was a carport that kept our rental truck dry from the nightly rains. The grounds were lushly tropical. There is no air conditioning but plenty of fans. It rains every night and cools off quite nicely. Are the frogs a bit loud with the windows open at night? Yes, but you get used to them. All in all, it was an amazing hideaway in the rainforest and we all enjoyed it immensely! I just wish we’d remembered to sign the guest book!

Beautiful property
We loved living in paradise for a week. As soon as you pull into the driveway you have your own little slice of tropical rain forest. The open floor plan in the main house was great for socializing and the privacy of the Ohana helped for winding down in the evenings. The sounds of the birds and frogs were delightful and the plants were gorgeous. The house had a bit of a musty smell when we first walked in but it was no surprise since it rained every day and there is no air conditioning to remove the humidity from the house. It stayed cool enough with the fans though and we enjoyed our stay.

Spacious house in beautiful garden
The house is very spacious, and has everything you need. Ellen, the concierge is very responsive and helpful. It can be a little dark during the day in the living area. But you're on Hawai'i, so get out! The town of Pahoa is a few miles north and provides shopping and good food options. There is only one (clothing-optional) swimming beach in the area, which is an experience! Be aware that the tap water is non-potable, but drinking water is supplied or can be re-filled at public spigots in the area. The garden is lush and has so many beautiful flowers, we spent a lot of time out there. We could harvest some ripe and tasty Oranges every day. Would go there again any time!

Beautiful jungle home
we enjoyed our month long stay at Hale Lizarde! The house has everything we needed for our stay. We weathered out a substantial storm there without issues. The power loss made for an adventure…we bought candles and snacks. When we discovered that the beach chairs that were advertised in house were missing the owner told us to grab some and she’d reimburse us. That was a thoughtful gesture. This home is not perfect, but was a perfect fit for a relaxing time for us.

Perfect size and layout!
We loved this property from the minute we drove in the gate. It's a beautiful setting in a convenient location. The living room is very comfortable. The open kitchen, dining room and living room setup is great. The king bed in the main bedroom is very comfortable, and the room and bathroom are perfect sizes. The queen bed in the second bedroom is also comfortable. We loved the screened in porch - maybe the best feature. Would like to see a comfortable lounge chair or two there for reading. The little house was perfect for our guest mother and her 6 and 9 year old boys to get away for their early-to-bed and early-to-rise routine. All-in-all, this house was perfect for us. Ellen was very gracious and attentive to our needs. We had occasion to need Randall to fix the disposal - he was also great - friendly, professional, and competent. Our son and his family live near Pahoa so we visit frequently. We hope Sandy's house will be available when we come.

Overpriced for level of cleanliness and shabby condition
Was a nice location and worked for us but place was not well kept. Dust in all the corners and a lot of mold around all the windows. Toilet seats, shower curtain and contents of screened porch need to be replaced. The floors left our feet very dirty the first day. Kitchen needs a proper cleaning. The yard hadn’t been touched in a while when we got there. The yard work was finally done midway through our stay. Overall, over priced for the level of up-keep.

Very quite surrounding, only with noises of birds and frogs.
Covered and bugs protected large seatting area outside.
Fully equipped kitchen.
Large rooms and bathrooms.
We enjoyed been there.
Just bare in mind:
No shower at the master bedroom (only jacuzzi bath).

5 stars for the experience of a lifetime!
Hale Lezarde is an uncompromising, one-acre slice of paradise. We chose to live here for two months and were flooded with joy every day we got to spend in this wifi-enabled rainforest sanctuary.
TL;DR -- the wifi is great, the surrounding wilderness is the stuff of dreams, the owners and groundskeepers are incredibly accommodating and willing to go out of their way to help, and we found this spot to be the perfect location for our 2 month long “workcation” getaway - highly recommend.
more details:
Arriving at the house in the evening was simple enough (though I recommend downloading Google maps for ease of navigation in areas with spotty reception). Accessing the property is simple with the lockbox.
The property was kept tidy, the kitchen was fully functional and had everything we could’ve asked for including a mango de-pitter. The beds were cozy, the jetted tub was powerful and warmed up pretty quickly which is nice since we know other locations don’t have a good water heater.
The kitchen is spacious, with more than enough room for all of the fresh produce you’ll discover on the property.
Our first morning turned into a scavenger hunt around the property for the best avocado trees to bookmark for later harvesting. If they’re in season, you’ll come to learn that the trees on the property provide you with a bounty of food -- avocados, lilikoi, oranges, and bananas.
With an acre to explore, it’s hard to believe there’s much better beyond the Hale itself. But if you get bored, you’re right by some of Hawaii’s finest wilderness (like Volcanoes!)
Just - truly a gem. We’re all so grateful for Mark and Sandy. They were attentive, quick-to-respond, and generally very pleasant to interact with.
For example, we ran into a slight issue with water running low and felt thoroughly taken care of throughout the process. So if you have any concerns about the logistics of the property, Mark and Sandy have it figured out and are speedy to get things sorted.
This was the only issue we encountered during 2 months of staying on this property. What a dream!
Anyway, I can’t recommend this enough. Staying at Hale Lezarde is the right way to do Big Island if you’re interested in the rainforest, enjoy a bit of nature, and want to have a one-of-a-kind experience you’ll remember for the rest of your life.
Also the photos are modest. The house actually looks much, much nicer in-person.
Thanks again to Mark and Sandy for providing this opportunity to us. Mahalo!

I came here with my family and we had a great time. It was a little bit of a drive to everything but, the house is in a quiet and secluded area.

Spacious Secluded getaway
House was spacious and the grounds lush. Wifi worked great. Slight musty/mildewy smell which is common in houses in tropical rainforests. A rusting refrigerator that worked fine, but had seen better days. Nice open kitchen outfitted with necessities (I couldn't find a knife sharpener though). Catchment water, which is noted in the listing, but I missed reading that. The guest house would work well for groups that wanted some space from each other. Had a temporary issue getting a hold of the property concierge/manager (no answer on phone number and voicemail wasn't set up) th first day, but owners were available and helped, and the concierge was able to be contacted the next day. Concierge was in contact and helpful during the rest of the stay.

Tropical Paradise
Very secluded! Surrounded by lush tropical plants. I loved going to sleep to the coqui frogs and waking up to the many birds that inhabit this island. This tropically decorated home is set in the back of the one acre lot. The house is very roomy with a delightful screened-in lanai. It is a comfortable place to sit with your cup of Kona coffee and relax. This hale is a great place for family and friends. Sandy is a wonderful hostess as is her housekeeper, gardener and property manager. If you like peace and quiet, this is the vacation home for you!

Nice w/ lots of potential
Landscape was very nice and groomed & emulated the true Puna jungle setting. House accomadeted us very well size wise & for sleeping. Kitchen was user friendly but fridge outdated & bit rusty. Other concerns were the pump from catchment system was very loud one night and continuously going on & off near the master bedroom through the wee hours of the morning. Also, there is a noticeable musty/moldy smell upon entering the house as well as catching whiffs of it throughout the day. Perhaps that is the way it goes in Leilani where it rains often but a dehumidifier could help. Conversely, the rain is what makes the property so beautiful & lush. Hmm...? I would consider renting this again for a larger group especially w/few upgrades.
