About this house rental
THERE IS A GLITCH IN THE SOFTWARE OF VRBO WHICH STATES THAT THIS PROPERTY HAS A SWIMMING POOL AND HOT TUB. WHICH IS INCORRECT. THE GLITCH HAS EXISTED FOR SOME TIME AND TODAY SEPTEMBER 22, 2024 WAS TOLD IT STILL EXISTS AND THAT VRBO IS WORKING ON RESOLVIN THE PROBLEM.
WELCOME to the Jones Cottage on Kentucky Road; beds will be made upon your arrival. In 1990 the residence was "gutted' and redesigned by a Knoxville architect for both casual and fun living. Air-conditioning was added a few years ago.
In the last few months the cottage has had serious maintenance and repairs including new shingles, entire cottage stained, and trim painted, gazebo roof repaired, and master bedroom and bath painted with some repairs as well and the back porch and balcony rails have been replaced. Looks as good as it did 32 years ago .. in my view.
Located a short walk from The Barn, Lake Susan and the Huckleberry. This residence should be on your "short list" for many reasons, including the beauty of the creek in this back yard! The large deck can host 20 for a meal or is a perfect place for a nap or to cuddle up with a good book. We will let the pictures speak for themselves.
Bedding:
Two bedrooms upstairs with bath
1 Queen
2 Queen
Downstairs

Bill and Margie's home in Montreat is not only comfortable and beautiful, but it is also a perfect place for a vacation for all ages. The home is in a serene and lovely area in Montreat close to Lake Susan and near enough to Black Mountain to enjoy restaurants and shopping. We enjoyed family time playing games, reading, and cooking in the well-equipped kitchen. Most of all we enjoyed taking in the beauty of the mountains. The house has a wonderful outdoor space as well. Bill and Margie were incredibly welcoming, and we were so appreciative of their hospitality. We highly recommend this lovely home and hosts.

My family has enjoyed Montreat annually for what will soon be three decades, and the Jones Cottage has become our place of choice.
The location is convenient and delightful with the babbling brook behind the cottage. Its restful living room, the well-equipped kitchen, the spacious veranda and gazebo -- all make for a very pleasant visit that the whole family can enjoy together.

This creekside cottage was the perfect setting for our family vacation. Inside was comfy and cozy, and the porch, yard, and creek gave ample places to enjoy the mountain air. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home!

We had a wonderful time staying here. Bill and Margie were very responsive to any questions we had. Their home is just as shown in the photos-- very clean, eclectic and tasteful decor, with wonderful outdoor spaces to enjoy. We appreciate how much attention the owners have paid to the details that make their guests feel so at home-- comfortable beds, high quality towels, well-stocked kitchen, etc.

We were somewhat familiar with the property, having visited the area many times. The cottage was absolutely perfect for our anniversary trip. Quaint, cozy and convenient to places we like to frequent, we would definitely stay here again. Our hosts were wonderful to work with; very prompt and helpful. All in all, a very good experience!

We loved the house and its location. The hosts were immediately responsive to our questions, and everything we could have needed was provided!

The Jones Cottage has been my family’s preferred lodging for at Montreat in the summer almost since it became available more than 15 years ago. The large veranda and the gazebo provide relaxing, outdoor space for conversations, games, and reading, and the indoors are nicely done, with a well stocked kitchen. The cottage is not a fancy, modern place, but it has all a family or group will want for good times together.

My family and I stayed here for the Thanksgiving holiday and it was the peaceful and serene getaway we were seeking. The house is in a quiet neighborhood, and all we could hear were the sounds from the creek in the back. The kitchen was well stocked and had just about everything we needed in the way of utensils and cookware. We enjoyed visiting Black Mountain and Asheville which were both a short drive, as well as walking around Montreat and hiking in the area. Bill was a wonderful host and clear communicator. Other reviewers have commented on the cleanliness and state of the house- we found it to be very clean! It's not in perfect condition, but it is a very old house and not a primary residence. We didn't mind it at all and found it to be a charming and lovely cottage! If we are ever back in the area, we would definitely stay here again!

Love and comfort fill this home.
What a great long weekend my husband and I had at Jones Cottage! All the amenities, but most importantly, a warm and inviting home. Well-stocked kitchen to cook up a fine meal to have with friends or just the two of us. We did both! The furnishings are eclectic with a lot of artwork, ceramics and wood features. The house is lovely. Sunny in the morning and cozy at night. The babbling creek behind the house encourages a good night sleep. The house was very clean, and has all the amenities. A neat neighborhood of old family houses and vacation homes with lots of privacy. We would come back! Asheville about 20 minutes and Black mountain just a 10 minute drive. Our hosts checked in with us to make sure we had what we needed, including a place to fish the following day. Thank you again!

Another great visit!
With much appreciation to our thoughtful hosts, we have loved another stay in your wonderful, charming, welcoming home. It's filled with a sense of happy times shared, inside and out, comfortable places to read, picnic and have fun together while Flat Creek rushes by. (A first rate kitchen matters too!) Location is another huge plus: easy walks to the best of Montreat, short drives to the Blue Ridge Parkway or Asheville. It has also, always, been a place of peace and rest for us. We are so grateful.

The pictures must have been five years ago because the area around the front of the house was overgrown with weeds. The gutters had trees growing in them, the rocking chair was broken, and the inside of the house had a musty odor. The house has rot and needs some attention

Neglected home
Drove ten hours & planned since April. Got there, no key. Called owner & had to leave a message. Found the extra key. The house was a mess. Beds were not made & laundry in front of the washer. Dust everywhere & fingerprints all over the dining table. The ceiling in the bathroom upstairs was collapsing. There was a smell of mustiness. Some furniture on the porch had a broken leg & in disrepair. Owner Bill was very rude to start with. He offered to send a cleaning crew in a couple hours but after his nastiness & condition of the property, I ask for a full refund. He said it wasn't his problem when I said where were we supposed to stay for the night. I'm sure this was a wonderful place at one time but it has been grossly neglected. Fortunately, I was able to contact a very nice VRBO owner I had used before. She helped us locate an available home. It was smaller but very nice.

Just Right
Rain or shine this cottage has it all: warmest hospitality must run in the veins of the owners of this lovely, happy place. It has a livable, welcoming spirit with comfort in every room plus a creek rushing along the back that says welcome, come stay, enjoy yourselves. We did and hope to be back soon. Thank you, thank you!!

Very nice house with 70s vibe. Very comfortable, clean and well-stocked kitchen. Never turned on the TV, but the bluetooth input adapter on the stereo was nice and functioned well. Porches and backyard will be very nice to use during warmer weather. It was a bit too cold in the mornings and evenings for us to enjoy on this trip, but nice feature of the house.

We chose this house for our first visit to the Asheville area and were not disappointed. We looked at many homes, some with more yards and closer to Asheville, but this was perfect for the mountain vibe we wanted without being too far up in the mountains or feeling secluded. The house is less than a 10 min drive to the small town of Black Mountain which is adorable and has all the stores (i.e. grocery, dining, shopping) you need to make for an enjoyable visit. The home is also very close to Lake Susan and a beautiful playground - perfect for our 2.5 year old. The outdoor space for this home is really what makes it. The gazebo and deck, while in need of a little TLC, is great for sitting outdoors. Outdoor lighting made spending evenings outside enjoyable. The backyard is not large but has enough space for a toddler to run around and burn some energy (under supervision as the creek is very close). The creek also provided amazing background noise!
The house worked very well for our group of 6 (4 adults, 2 kids), and provided ample space for our needs. While not our style, the house was well furnished and not cluttered, which made for a great trip! The kitchen is also well stocked with cookware, silverware and spices. The home also had strong WiFi which friends told us is not always common in Montreat.
We definitely recommend this home and would stay again, it will not disappoint.
