About this house rental
Perched hundreds of feet above Lake Vallecito, this professionally managed, 2-story floor plan with two living areas opens up to the stunning views of the lake and mountain peaks. Looking through high windows, three sliding glass doors or sitting outside on one of the two decks provide aerial landscapes that will take your breath away!
CO Sales Tax #30377430
Wildlife abounds at your doorstep, with the chipmunks and deer at play. Hummingbirds buzz by the deck, while eagles and osprey soar above the lake. Vallecito Reservoir, sheltered in a mountain valley at 6,700 feet elevation, is one of the largest and most beautiful lakes in Colorado. The San Juan National Forest and Weminuche Wilderness, over 2.5 million acres of public land, surround Vallecito Lake and touch the north boundary of this spectacular mountain retreat. Families can hike or horseback directly to the wilderness area and the Continental Divide.
Three rock fireplaces provide warmth to the master bedroom and two living areas. Vaulted ceilings showcase the T&G wood ceiling and floor to ceiling windows. The house was recently furnished, freshly decorated and has all new bedding. The spacious kitchen and open floorplan is perfect for entertaining. The small kitchenette downstairs provides additional comforts for large families or two family stays. The two car garage and walk off 2nd story porch provides added comfort.
Summer or winter, this location is for those who want to experience the adrenaline of mountain lake experiences and skiing or just want to relax and enjoy the beauty of the wilderness and the star-filled skies at night.
Fall brings beautiful changing colors of the aspen and fishing opportunities in the two rivers that continually feed the lake. The house is situated above Vallecito Marina and timing the lake’s salmon run is a lasting event in itself. With over 50 miles of streams and numerous ‘hike in’ mountain lakes, the opportunities to catch rainbows, brookies, browns, and cutthroats are like the views, endless. Larger Pike, Rainbow and Brown Trout troll the lake. The adjacent wilderness area is Colorado's largest, and adventurers can hunt and hike on 500 miles of trails.
Winter snowmobiling and cross country skiing can be enhanced by short drives to Durango Mountain Resort/Purgatory and Wolf Creek. All-wheel or 4-wheel drive necessary to access the property during winter months.

The cabin was beautiful, and the views were incredible. From the master bedroom I could wake up to the sunrise on the mountains and the shimmering lake. It truly is Heaven's View. It's about a 25 minute drive to Durango, so out of the way from town. I enjoyed walking my dogs up the neighborhood hill, that was great exercise! Jennifer is too kind for sharing this place wth the world, I loved that she graciously allowed my 3 well behaved fur babies to stay, too. My family and I sat out on the wraparound deck every night watching shooting stars. Its so quiet & peaceful. We visit Durango often, so we definitely will be back! Thank you for sharing your gem of a home!

We had a great time! Lots of hikes and shopping in Durango. Rented a pontoon boat on the lake

Cleanest house, comfortable beds & furniture, absolutely best stocked house! Above all of that is the incredible view from every room! Owner was quick to address our concern and didn’t hesitate to help us! We have been renting cabins & houses at Vallecito Lake for 30 years & this rental was the best house we have ever rented! We will be back!

Spent 9 days here with my family. We really enjoyed the spaciousness and the views. Communication with the host was great. Kitchen was well stocked with everything you need to prepare meals at home. We had record heat that week, but the upstairs remained comfortable with the mini-split AC in the living area and cool breezes from the windows and doors in the evening. All-in-all a nice place to stay, and we hope to return soon!

Vallecito is a wonderful area to explore...The home is comfortable for one or 2 families to enjoy...

We truly experienced a Hallmark Christmas. The view is a creation of beauty that you have to see. It's peaceful, breathtaking and overall a place of wonder. Trails are near for hiking. The house is cozy, comfortable and easy to take a nap in. Watch the sunrise on the deck with your morning beverage. Cook in the best stocked kitchen I've seen and finish your day watching the sunset. Don't pass up on the opportunity to stay here. You will not be disappointed.

Family greatly enjoyed the graceful cabin and forest in this cool and quiet part of Vallecito. Plenty of spaces for group or private retreat, indoors and out, with easy driving access to the lake, adjacent to good walking roads. Highlight was forest and lake views from the deck, with turkey and deer passing by almost hourly. Greatly appreciated the attention to stocking the house - from books and games, to kitchen sundries, ingredients, and cookware. Owner helpful and responsive to inquiries we had. Recommended.

Great place!
This home was the perfect combination. The views, the wildlife (deer and hummingbirds) and the location (close to all kinds of activities) were amazing. The house has plenty of space and seating both inside and all around the outside decks! We will be back!

Family gathering.
Great location with a beautiful view of the lake (kind of a hike down to the lake if you walk). Spent an afternoon on the lake, hiked in the San Jaun National forest and just enjoyed quiet times in the morning on the deck with a warm beverage, especially in the little covered nook of the master bedroom.

Great place with a great view
We stayed one week and hosted kids and grandkids and had a great time enjoying great views including watching the dear and turkey graze in the area.

Spacious with a fabulous view
The house is very comfortable and well stocked unlike some other properties we’ve stayed in. The view is unbeatable. It’s remote which can be good and bad depending on what you plan to do while in the area. We loved it and would definitely stay again. Owners are super helpful and accommodating. A hidden jewel!

Fabulous View!
This was one of the most peaceful places we’ve stayed in the last 10 years. Great views of the lake with deer and turkeys making an almost daily appearance. And if you love watching hummingbird antics, this is the place! We were a bit disappointed that the lake was so low, made it difficult to find good fishing spots but the view of it is spectacular. Beds were comfortable, plenty of seating for meals and evening relaxation. Kitchen is amazingly well stocked which was great as we cooked / grilled every night. A pleasure of a stay, you won’t be disappointed!

Awesome home with great views of Lake Vallecito. 35 min away from Durango.
Great views, clean, great place for fishing, hiking, visiting Durango, some great family time and memories that will last a lifetime!!!

Wonderful!
We had a great time at this awesome property and highly recommend it.
The Vallecito area is quiet and close enough to the Durango area but just far enough away (about a 30 min drive). The lake is beautiful and there is plenty to do (hiking, swimming, boating, picnicking, etc). The house has plenty of room and the layout was perfect for our family of four. The owners are very responsive and easy to work with. Make sure you stop by the Weminuche Grill (great BBQ sandwich and the general store…plenty there for what you might need) if you decide to rent this property.
We would be back there in a heartbeat!

Beautiful Views
This house has beautiful views of the lake, plenty of space, privacy, easy access to the lake, and the perk of an extra kitchenette. We were very comfortable here.
****A note for future guests…bring extra toilet paper and soaps. The owners only provide 2 rolls per bathroom and limited amounts of hand soap. Renters are responsible for any additional needed. We only found out upon arrival when reading the house handbook.

Perfect Colorado Lake House
We had a great time at the Miller House on Vallecito Lake. Not only is it in a beautiful natural setting but the house itself is lovely, comfortable and had everything we needed for the week….including some snacks in the pantry. We loved the awesome views and the cool breezes off the lake. Our dogs loved all the new smells and deer sitings on their daily walks. We cooked most of our meals and had everything we needed to do so, including a propane grill we used to cook hamburgers, chicken thighs and to grill a spatchcocked chicken. We took a couple of short trips into Durango and Honeyville, enjoying views of the mountains both coming and going. We had just the best time!

Awesome vacation
We’ve been to Colorado many times and stayed at a variety of places, however this property was the BEST so far!!! Far enough from town to feel “away” yet close enough for a trip in. Cabin was more than well stocked perfect. Anything you could possibly need, it had! Kitchen was huge and had a wonderful and brand new gas stove/range and any item you could imagine needing, at your fingertip. My 3 children had their very own floor with kitchen and also, anything they needed. Property overlooked the lake and it was spectacular, and it could be seen from just about any room! All rooms were very spacious and quite comfortable. There were neighbors around but never heard or saw. My kids told me it was the BEST place they had ever been to! WiFi was exceptional and there was tons to watch on satellite television. I could just go on and on. Again, very pleased with our stay and would highly recommend to anyone that considers staying. Thank you Miller’s for sharing your home with us!

We spent 4 full days here and loved every minute. We only left the cabin twice bc it had everything we needed and was so relaxing it was easy to want to stay. The view of the frozen lake and snow covered mountains was breathtaking and the location was ideal. It was far enough to get get the full nature experience but convenient to run to downtown Durango for some shopping. We can’t wait to return again and fully recommend staying here! -The Aguirres

Great escape with a beautiful view!
We had a fantastic 5 night stay at this house with our 3 kids ages 9-12. We did remote school/work during the days and explored in the afternoons ending with hide and seek under the stars each night. The view of the lake is absolutely breathtaking and the extra long deck allowed for so much relaxation and taking it all in. Owner was very easy to work with and we will be back!

Heavens view
This house is amazing as are the views. House has everything you need and then some. Right on the lake, near trails and 35 minutes to Durango. Had one mule dear For I named Texas that napped in the same spot every day. Then there was the parade of 5 turkeys every afternoon about 4:30. Highly recommend this lovely home

Home away from home!
We were pleasantly surprised to find this warm and welcoming home in Vallecito! There was plenty of space for us to spread out (so perfect for a larger group) but we were quite comfy staying upstairs. Chairs, sofas, etc. really comfortable! Jennifer was always great about returning phone calls when we had questions. And added bonus is that the home really is stocked with different dry goods, oils, etc. for cooking. We left what we didn't open behind for the next person to enjoy. BEST OF ALL ------the VIEW is AMAZING! It's high enough to see the perfect about of water, but just 10 minutes away from everything. We hiked quite a bit higher and found that view to not be as good. We are definitely making this a yearly (if not a couple of times a year)trip. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! Thanks so much, Jennifer!

Beautiful Location
Spent a week with our four children and their spouses for Christmas. We had a a wonderful time and had plenty of room. Never felt cramped up. Even snowed on Christmas Day. The home is well stocked and sits high on a hill with incredible views of the lake and surrounding mountains.
We all left with ours hearts full and our spirits refilled.

Wonderful getaway
My family had a wonderful week-long vacation at Jennifer’s beautiful house. The views are spectacular, and the house is spacious, comfortable, and well equipped. The location is peaceful and scenic. Jennifer was a very responsive host - we had an issue with an appliance during our stay, and Jennifer had it fixed immediately. We plan on returning again next summer, and highly recommend this property to any guests!

Birthday weekend
Amazing place, the views are better than the photos. Communication was great and very easy to get in and out of the house. As other reviews have said there wasn’t quite enough toilet paper for 9 people so bring some of your own and the downstairs is significantly colder than the upstairs (not an issue in summer). We had such a great time and would come back again!

Spectacular views from almost anywhere in the home! Very well maintained. Very spacious and cozy.
Lots and lots of snow this year! We had a great time snowboarding and skiing at both Purgatory and then Wolf Creek. One day, the kids enjoyed snowmobiling. So much to do, what a beautiful place to stay!

Amazing view!!
My family and I stayed here over Thanksgiving. The views of the lake from the cabin are amazing. We never got tired of the view. There are 2 (1 queen bed & 2 twin beds) bedrooms downstairs & 1 king bedroom upstairs. Upstairs fireplace is gas & downstairs is wood. There were some issues we had with the cabin but nothing too big. The downstairs area gets cold. We had to ask the owner for space heaters in the bedrooms. The upstairs king bed fell in. We lifted the mattress & found missing screws in the bed frame so we had to fix that ourselves. The downstairs TV volume wasn’t working but wasn’t a big deal since we were out & about or used the upstairs TV. Upstairs kitchen cabinets & bedroom closet had mice droppings. The outlets & upstairs refrigerator shut off on us. The downstairs lights would shut off randomly & we’d have to reset the breaker a few times. Other than those issues we had a really relaxing time. The house is beautiful. The owner was responsive & sent the caretaker over to check on the issues we had. Unfortunately, we had already fixed the issues ourselves. But the caretaker was really helpful & friendly. Kitchen is well stocked with cookware, limited baking dishes, dishes, cups, coffee maker, utensils, 2 crock pots, basic dry goods, tons of spices, & a certain amount of cleaning supplies. The house has linens, blankets, pillows in all bedrooms. Towels in the bathrooms. There is also a washer & dryer but we didn’t get a chance to use it. Definitely recommend a 4x4 vehicle in the winter months. It snowed while we were there & the road got icy. This road winds up a hill. The upstairs deck is beautiful. Regardless of the small problems, I would definitely come back to Heavens View. We are already talking about booking for next year. Thank you for a beautiful house.

Breath taking view
We were in vallecito for a family wedding and this cabin was in an excellent location in beautiful surroundings. The cabin itself was ok, it could be fantastic if given a little TLC, the carpet needs to be replaced and the cleaning person is not doing a very good job which is too bad because we paid a cleaning fee of $185 on top of the daily rate for a 4 day stay. Some items such as shampoo were supposed to be included weren’t and we ran out of toilet paper, and had to wash towels and had 1 facecloth. I don’t feel we got fair value and would choose another property or hotel next time.
