Enjoyable stay

Lovely old building, room really nicely decorated

Heating not on, on a cool October morning - would have appreciated a small oil fired radiator (no doubt the single glazed building is exceptionally expensive to heat throughout)

We have stayed at the Sun hotel twice now, both times a great experience,.

Great Northumbrian cooked breakfast, and lots of cereals, fruit to choose from

Beware of booking a single room

I was checked into a single room which was very cold, no heating in the shower room, water leaking from the roof above and dripping onylto the carpet. I complained and the man in charge immediately changed my room which was an infinitely better room ( double). It was warm. Furnishings were good but the single bed mattress and bed base were much used and uneven.

The location was superb, very friendly staff and very dogfriendly!

Planning our return

Comfortable room (Room 11) and good for our dogs too. En-suite shower excellent Bar well stocked and menu varied Dogs made to feel very welcome, especially in bar and at breakfast.

Great location but lacked customer service skills

Room nice and lovely view Breakfast very - nice great choices

No lift had to walk up 2 flights of stairs when mentioned at check in was told think of me walking up with the laundry??????? Not very empathetic When in breakfast needed toilet so had to either go back to room or through restaurant and then down stairs Not very disabled friendly Lights didn't come on when in toilet! Couldn't find switch Saturday breakfast staff attitude left lot to be desired I mentioned No juice very discreetly while staff clearing table - response was Am doing it!!!! She was clearing table not topping up juice! Don't say something that you're not doing! Just say thank you for letting me know I will see to it as soon as possible Incessant trying to sing very off putting too Feel as though all staff I came across need some interpersonal skills training

Really good, having booked at short notice.

Great location. Handy pub next door. Plenty of car park spaces. Pleasant staff. Great sausage and bacon in Northumbrian breakfast.

Minor quibble was that we thought porridge would have been better on the LH page of the menu ie you could choose porridge instead of cereals in addition to a cooked breakfast.

Disappointing.

The breakfast room was excellent The Brew house pub was also very good

We were on the top floor, - no porterage. Room No 10 overlooked the road, very noisy, evenings, nights and early mornings. The sash window was rotten and bolted ¼ open. This room had no internal door lock. The water supply in the bathroom shower was intermittent, sometimes no water at all. Downstairs there was no lounge or guest only sitting area Breakfasts were variable, excellent kippers one day but "leather" bacon and hard eggs the next !

A very pleasant few days

Enjoyed our evenings in the pub next door. The food was very good and staff very friendly.

I wish I had enquired about accessibility—- my fault. We were allocated the room at the highest floor in the hotel. There were 4 sets of stairs to negotiate and my arthritic knees found it difficult. Next time I will ask about accessibility.

Passable but over priced for standard

My husband enjoyed breakfast but I ordered poached eggs and they were hard …. Very disappointing. Room was very basic and not particularly clean.

just felt ripped off.

conveniently close to people so was visiting. I have used the Hotel before and know the breakfast is good

couldn’t use the shower because it was scalding hot. I know the single rooms on the first floor(1a and 1b) are not good or particularly comfortable and if I’d been staying more than one night I would have avoided them. It was just somewhere to stay briefly after a longish drive. I couldn’t even get a shower.
