A stay at Pachamama ist a great experience. Located in the middle of Isla Cañas it is surrounded by two water fronts with a wonderful beach and lots of coconut trees. Jean-Pierre and Irina are wonderful hosts, so that you feel welcome at any point. They put lots of effort building up the place with little Palm tree houses as accomodation. But the tent is a great budget option. Facilities are simple but clean and everything you need. Really enjoyed my stay and would come back any time!
Nothing for poeple that like luxury, but If you like the simple life and nature it's the place to go.

The location is amazing if you're looking for a quiet time, walking on an almost empty beach, swimming undisturbed in the ocean, watching the sun rise up from the water, having a drink at the sunset, gazing at the stars at night, listening to the waves, enjoying great food...
The hosts Pierre and Irina are great at making the stay as smooth and enjoyable as possible for all guests, and they make everyone feel welcome in this little corner or paradise :)
The remote location can be challenging to reach and requires a bit of patience -- but that's part of what makes the Pachamama hostel special!
The amenities are simple and in the same time charming, so expect little and you'll have a pleasant surprised :)

It was the perfect location to disconnect. It feels like an abundant island to connect with the nature. If you want to stay alone at the beach and enjoy yourself, that’s the perfect place. The owners are very warm, welcoming and care about everyone that comes around. It’s a place where simplicity overrules comfort but in a good way. Our cabaña was clean and isolated from the rest to fully enjoy been kind of isolated. Something to point out is that you pre-booked dinner will be served and enjoyed together with the other residence. The offered meals aren’t too costly and delicious. They serve cold Atlas Beer in the Color of Panama and France 👍
We caught a pretty windy night that you really feel within you cabaña. It’s quite a trip to get there but JP is glad to pick you up with the private boat Taxi what we would really recommend to get there. Be aware that there is only limited power during the daytime (solar power) and you need to take care of your mobile data since there is no WiFi. But that could be something you really want at that place.

The island is beautiful and the village has nice people, bars, restaurants, minimarkets, public boat going through the mangroves... And we even saw the bioluminescence in the ocean one night.
Way overpriced
The hut we stayed in was basic with bats hanging above the bed that shat on the moscito net right above our faces and with cockroaches on the table and bed - the owners say it's natural - if you tell them about your worries that they may transfer diseases you might get insulted and called "too soft to live in the nature".
If you don't want to walk 2km by the beach, they charge you 16$ to get you by boat - to put this into perspective: a person working in a laundry in Panama gets payed 2,80$ per hour.
If two groups arrive at the same time each is charged 16$.
There is only one toilet - so you are asked to pee in the woods.
He says you should save energy, as it is all solar-powered yet he has a giant fridge and a diesel electric generator.
To use the fridge you pay extra.
You are not allowed to drink your own drinks.
People who cook for themselves are not welcome. They are asked to collect their trash in an individual plastic bag and take it home with them. So if you don't take the overpriced boat service you can carry this bag for 1 hour with you. At the place where you are supposed to leave it we saw children burning trash. If you don't want to carry the trash with you, you are charged 2$ per day extra. If you don't agree with that, you get friendly words, then angry whatsapp messages and finally the trash bag thrown at you (literally onto your body).
They offer breakfast for 5$ and dinner for 12$ The meals are very simple like toast with eggs for breakfast. Not as good as in the village but 3 to 4 times as expensive.
Beer is twice as expensive as in the village.
By boat the place is really easy to reach and they also have motorcycles and quads to reach the village in 5 minutes, yet they exploit that you don't get around as easily without them.
You are asked to pay a deposit before you come, via PayPal or Western Union and so you pay all the fees by yourself instead of them to Booking.

Fantastic location. Amazing elevated hut with comfy bed, right on the beach. You can see and hear the Pacific from your bed. Your own hammocks underneath the hut. Surrounded by hundreds of palmtrees, and only the sound of birds and the ocean. Irina and Jean Pierre are wonderful hosts. The great communication and help to get there, the pick up (by boat!), all went perfect because of them. I felt really welcome. Irina is a master chef if you ask me. She prepares the most fantastic breakfast, lunch and dinner you can imagine. Definitely worth the extra money!
I love going to places that are a little out of the ordinairy and Pachamama is definitely one of the best I've been to so far. From the community area, till the outdoorshowers. The unique toilethut with its own palm lane... Higly recommended!!

The guys running this place are doing a great job! The turtle seeking is an interesting one. They have a nursery for turtles and try to help baby turtles, keep up the great work! If in doubt, just go for it! The way to the lodge is awesome. If you're lucky your guide will spot you some boa constrictors!
An other plus is you've got the beach for yourself over the day.
Other facilities are great (for the price you pay)!
- Egg hunters who 'eat(sell)' the eggs
- Plastic pollution 😔

Great natural environment. Everything on the spacious terrain is made in a natural en sustainable way. Jean Pierre and Irina are friendly and helpful people. Irina is a great cook and Jean Pierre guided us to see the turtles. We enjoyed our stay!

The staff was really friendly. The food was really great! We saw a lot of stars in the evening and made a fire at the beach. We were lucky to see a turtle in the night also.
There were a lot of crabs in our cabin.

Wow, wow!!!
Paradise! It's an amazing place! Quite, chill, and beautiful place!
Jean Pierre and Irina are so nice, the perfect host!
The food is amazing!
It's an island, so you need to know that it's not easy to get in and out of there, but you will not want to leave this place!

Irina and JP were super friendly and welcoming. They are so open minded and were really helpful and cared for us feeling good.
The food was truly amazing! Don't forget to order it in advance.
There is no wifi. For us it was great because we forgot about our surrounding.
The sky at night is incredible.
Thanks for an unforgettable time on Isla Cañas!
Tip 1: order the shuttle! We arrived during ebb and didn't order it (big mistake). We took the public transport and had to walk through mud. We cut our feet open..
Tip 2: don't forget: there is no supermarket around!
Tip 3: bring a light with you! At night some ways are hard to see.
Tip 4: take some flip-flops with you because the sand gets really hot during daytime!
To get there we took a bus from Las tablas (8am departure from terminal de buses de rutas internas.) to canas.

Too many tourists at Playa Venao?
Here you have a beach at Sunrise & Sunset alone for yourself, which is even more beautiful and located in a nature protected area. Thanks a lot, I really enjoyed my time on Isla Cañas!
There is absolutely nothing! Only that I couldn’t stay longer… :(

Everything except the point below is perfect. The remote island is beautiful. It was easier to reach than initially thought (we took the private boat). You’ll have the beach by yourself. It is the best place to disconnect with all stresses of life and connect more with nature. The night sky is incredible, there are so many stars like nowhere else. They have a very cute dog named Chico.
The owners are very friendly. The food is exceptional. They even offer vegetarian and vegan options.
You have to take your trash yourself to a trash dump off the island. The locals pay for it (who already live in enough poverty) and they understandably don’t like to see tourists throw away the trash on their costs. It shouldn’t be the tourists task to get rid of the trash. The hostel owners should pay for it and get rid of it, even if that means that they have to raise the price a little bit.

A wonderful small resort located on a long stretched island just half a mile from the main land. Plenty of space, a long beach with fine sand and waves for some beginners surfing. The French owners are great hosts and serve a light breakfast and other meals upon demand. The resort has fresh drinking water through a pipe from the hills of the mainland. Lots of animals around the resort: birds of all kinds, turtles, crabs , bats and even a dog and cat. perfect for families or kite surfers. we didn’t have any mosquito bites. A small paradise.
No WiFi; the accommodation is very basic.

Pachamama was like paradise! Jean-Pierre and Irina are so nice. Their food is amazing and the place was a very pleasant surprise for us - we didn't expect much, but we're amazed by how beautiful and calm it is.
At night we did the turtle tour with Jean Pierre. We saw a turtle laying eggs and he told us a lot about them during the night walk on the beach
Pachama is also really good value for your money, the drinks are great, food is great, nice little escape from the cities and villages. Don't expect any luxury - but that's the charm of it :)
Thanks Jean-Pierre and Irina!

We ended up staying there longer than we planned because it was just so beautiful. Jean-Pierre and Irena were awesome hosts and it was just amazing. You wake up the pacific and the beach in front of you. It was just perfect.
Everything was awesome.
